Heh, it was definitely a performance of some kind. And definitely don’t skimp on the karaoke. Maybe next week I’ll do Frankie’s “My Way.”
BioTigs, you need to send that story in to the Chicken Soup for the Soul people or Reader’s Digest or something.
The plan for today includes editing a lab for the class I’m TAing, emailing some people, video games, [sub]laundrygrrrr[/sub], and maybe some reading. I found out from scout (Hi scout!) about a labyrinth of a book called House of Leaves, so since I finally found it in the library I am eager to dive in.
Oh, I almost forgot. It turns out that there’s going to be some new equipment installed in the physics building this term. Unfortunately, it’s going to leave an electromagnetic buildup on everyone in the building which is at just the right frequency to interfere with the Straight Dope’s servers, so I’m afraid I’ll have to limit my posting here from now on. I’ll miss you guys!
… gotcha. April Fools!
<checks time> Morning, all. I just turned on the 'puter; being heathens, we watched CBS Sunday Morning, then had breakfast – scallop and crabmeat omelettes. Now I should be contemplating working, but all I’m really contemplating is a nap for some strange reason.
Papa Tigs got up early and took the Idiots to the beach, so they are now comatose for the rest of the day. They could hardly even bestir themselves for food. I wish it was so easy to make humans happy, y’know?
I’ll keep you all posted what happens with Aunt Betty’s funeral. She was indeed a character. My sister and I were reminiscing about fun memories of her last night, and we both remembered that there was this long memorizable tongue-twister thingy she taught us that neither of us can remember in any detail except that each line got longer and longer and the last line contained the to-that-point-unknown phrase “from an eleemosynary institution.” “Eleemosynary” has been one of my favorite words ever since, for obvious reasons. (I’m also partial to “defenestration.”) I couldn’t even find the whole thing by googling, even though I thought everything is on the internet now, but I’ll keep searching. Either that or hopefully my sister will find it written down in her apartment somewhere. It’s going to drive me crazy until I find it again.
But anyway, all this excitement over her funeral would just send Aunt Betty over the moon. She lived such a quiet, uneventful life – I mean, she was an old maid kindergarten teacher whose whole social circle was her very conservative Baptist church – and so all the fuss in the last couple of years just meant the world to her. Of course, she shouldn’t have been eating the ice cream, donated or not, since she was an out-of-control diabetic, but she never let that stop her (and it probably hastened her demise). She was all the kids’ favorite aunt, though; she never quite outgrew being a kid herself.
I went to Mass, did some shopping, and did laundry. I am going to take a nap now.
swampy, a kid was scourging his older brother with a palm in the next pew, but he was cranky because he wanted a nap.
BionicTigs, a seafood omlet sounds good… That is a neat story about Aunt Betty.
There was this adorable little tiny girl at church, with a bright pink dress and red rubber ladybug boots. She was sooooooo cute. I wanted to kidnap her. No one would have noticed!
Mr. Lissar didn’t make it out of bed, so he didn’t get to wear a robe and be in the procession. I guess this weekend will be enough excitement for him. I did bring him home some palms. Aerin thinks they’re her natural prey.
Ow. I have one of those painful zits right under my right nostril. I hate painful zits.
Today has been plumbing day. I’m taking a break while FCD glues together the sink drain pipe parts. I’ve learned that plumbing is pretty doggone complicated, even when you’ve opened the wall to the studs and you’ve got full access from the basement. I’m mostly being the assistant, which suits me fine.
All the plans for painting have gone kerflooey. Oh well - mebbe one evening this week?
My entourage has me surrounded - 2 doggies at my feet and one cat on my shoulder. I think I need a couple more dogs and 3 or 4 more cats - ya think? And maybe some furry rodentia? Then I could have the FairyChatZoo.
Well, time to get back to work. No rest for the weary… :o <— yawn
Palm sword dueling was fun. Brunch was nummy. The nap I had was good. It’s cloudy and tryin’ to rain. I wish it would just come on. We need rain!
Hi LiLi! Since you have some palms, you could do a sneak attack on Mr. Lissar. You’re supposed to use a French accent and say things like, “Feel ze might of my mighty frond!” and stuff like that there. Or quotes from The Three Musketeers. Or Mouseketeers.
Ya know what I hate? I hate when I go to the grocery store with a list, and just as I’m turning into the parking lot I think "Oh yes, I need to get <insert item here>, too. I should add it to my list. Then I think - “No, I’m here. I’ll remember.” Then I’m walking thru the store, knowing there was something else I needed. I got the items on the list. I got the bread for French toast that **FCD ** asked for, but I couldn’t remember the item that I remembered as I was turning into the parking lot, and I was sure it was something **FCD ** had asked me to get.
Then he met me in the grocery, having made his purchases at the hardware store and stowed his purchases in the car. And I asked him, but he didn’t know what it was I wanted. And as we drove home, I kept trying to recall, but nothing came. And we got home and unloaded the car, and put all the stuff in the kitchen, and as I was walking down the hall towards the bedrooms, I yelled out “Lemon juice!!” DAMMIT!
I was supposed to get a bottle of lemon juice for FCD’s iced tea. We’re almost out. GRRRRRR - I hate that.
On the up side, we got ice cream, and that wasn’t even on the list, but when it’s Turkey Hill 2-for-1, ya just gotta buy some!
Navy bean soup bubblin’ on the stove - it smells good already and it’s got at least an hour more to cook. Yum. **FCD ** is in the basement futzing with some more plumbing stuff. I’ve emptied the dishwasher, and I need to tidy the counter where a bunch of clay and clay-related tools have accumulated. Thus ends my weekend.
Stoopit lemon juice.
Turkey Hill 2-for-1? Damn, I gotta send Papa Tigs to the store to see if that’s happening around here, too! Not that my waistline needs ice cream, mind you, but where Turkey Hill is concerned, that’s really not a consideration.
Is it bedtime yet? I don’t know if it’s the weather, or my achy knee, or what, but I am getting more and more draggy as the day progresses. I’d try caffeinating some more, but I’m afraid if I caffeinate any more I won’t sleep tonight, and I have to go back to therapy tomorrow. Grr.
MamaTigs, it’s at a small chain in St. Mary’s county, not one of the majors. Sorry…
Altho I suppose other stores might offer the same deal.
I’ve noticed that when it goes on sale, everyone has it on sale at the same time. Of course, this time watch that not be the case. Oh well, I’ll just have to eat out of one of the several cartons of Turkey Hill already in the freezer. Yeah, that’s real suffering, isn’t it?
Poor baby - having to eat old Turkey Hill.
Old Turkey Hill - sounds like a brand of whiskey or something…
Not just old Turkey Hill, but how about Turkey Hill mango gelato swirled with vanilla? Yummmm! Yeah, I definitely suffer.
Hee! When I saw the words Turkey Hill, my first thought was sounds like sump’n one could by a fifth of for $2.99.
It’s raining!!! YAY!!! More! More I say! Did I mention we need rain? My bathroom, bedroom and the kitchen are clean. Just thought I’d report. Now I needs tackle the livin’ and dinin’ rooms, then I think I’ll quit. The guest bedroom, bath and study can get cleaned tomorrow. With the rain and all, I’m hopin’ it clears out all this dang pine pollen which means I can wash down the back porch, front stoop and pool area for real now. Until the pollen clears the best one can do is just periodic hosin’ down of everything. Twixt that and job search it should be a busy week here at da swampcave.
Oh, and because I am apparently insane, I’m hosting Easter lunch next Sunday for twelve! I’m baking a ham and making rolls and probably will steam asparagus. Other folks will bring other stuff so it ain’t so bad. If’n I can get the back porch cleaned up real good we can have it out there cause I can seat twelve comfortably there and it’d be nice. See, when I do that, the hot tub cover serves as the buffet. It’s perfect cause all the food and stuff can sit on the hot tub and be served buffet style. Sounds all elegant and sophisticated like don’t it!
Oh, and my major and most important chore of today is in the works… tomorrow’s MMP!
Just dropping in to say “Hi!”
Hi LiLi! Sorry Mr. Lissar is under the weather. Hope everyone’s all perked up for next week.
You said that just to send me over the edge, right, Spats? But at least I noticed your April Fool’s message.
There were multiple children bopping each other with palms right near me in church (I was strategically located near a bunch of people with small children). We went out for brunch afterward. I had scrambled eggs and smoked salmon and sour cream and potato pancakes. Yum. I’m about to go over to a friend’s house for dinner (well, in 1/2 an hour or so). Really shouldn’t, because I need to get some work done, but I already begged off last week and I actually went in to work earlier today.
Worked in the garden for about an hour. Now I’m all clean (de-pollenized) and thinking about what I should do before leaving for din-din.
Have a lovely rest of Sunday evening!
GT
The Snakes managed to pull off a 4-2 win in Jacksonville this afternoon, so we’re not out yet. Next game is Tuesday.
It had been raining on and off for most of the afternoon - I hope it washed away some of that nasty pollen. I have a terrible sinus headache and nothing to take for it. Maybe I’ll take a nap…
Have I ever mentioned that I make good soup?
We had our fill at dinner, and I’ve got 3 servings left over for lunches. Yum. Ice cream will be consumed a little later. Dishes are done, dishwasher is loaded, and we’re winding down. Thus endeth another weekend… <sigh>
My baby called earlier. Her ex-bf - the one who still owes her a bunch of money - got his current GF pregnant. This guy can’t take care of himself, and now he’s going to be a father?? This can only end badly. I’m just glad he’s her ex.
Is it time for ice cream yet???
It’s always time for ice cream silly FCM!
Living and dining rooms are all spiffed. The MMP is ready to go. I shall post it upon arising tomorrow morning. Or if’n I wake up durin’ the night to pee or sump’n maybe I’ll wander into le study and put it up. One never knows with me cause I’m all spontaneous like.
You’re right about ice cream time, swampy, and it was nummers! I had chocolate peanut butter cup and he had coconut cream pie. Life is good.
I had stuffed peppers for dinner. The Canes neutered the Panthers, so we still are in the playoff hunt.
SCL, Go Snakes!!!
FCM, I have no ice cream, so I am having beerverages for dessert.
Ice Cream!!!
::finding some of the Wife’s leftover Coldstone on the freezer, while she naps::
Dinner was fast, easy and tasty. (Insert joke about "that’s how I like my women too…)
I made some box Jambalaya and added some sausage to it, fixed up some cornbread and ta-da.
Tomorrow’s going to be a fun day - if all goes well. Drop the Wife at her train, go to the gym, then to see the Fabulous Jen for a nice massage, then it’s off to the Sox-Indians and Opening Day!!
::cheers loudly for the start of baseball season, while not forgetting it’s still Rangers Season::
