Ohio death row inmate sings "Too Fat Polka"

Let’s deal with what I said, not what you think I said. Violently aggressive impulses? Insults are that? How are insults violently aggressive? Please explain how me calling him a filthy scumbag is violently aggressive.

I’m going to die someday you know, I’m helpless to that fact. You insulting me and behaving like a 3rd grader by playing games with our screen names makes you insane by your own standards. Just sayin’.

Perhaps you could provide a cite that explains what you’re asserting here. That would help. You seem to contend that insulting a confessed killer would be reason to consult with a psychologist. Why? What psychological problem would this be part of? In your medical experience, how is this damaging and unhealthy?

I really would like to know why you believe this man is above contempt. He’s not helpless to his fate. He created the situation that puts a date attached to his death. He chose to rape and kill two women. Those two women were the helpless ones in this situation. I do not think the state should put him to death. I agree with you 100% there. But, I will not fool myself or weaken my belief in the opposition to the death penalty by pretending that he is helpless to this situation.

Perhaps it is you who needs a bit of help with this particular situation. What I object to is your ridiculous notion that it makes one insane to have contempt for and insult a convicted and confessed murderer.

It seems that your reasoning for this is because he is condemned to death and this makes him helpless. In regards to that situation, how is he different than anyone else posting here that you gleefully insult? Are we all not condemned to death? His life is more precious than anyone else’s life? I can understand your desire to defend his right to live, but you think he has a right to be above insults and contempt? Perhaps you have some issues with death that you need to have worked through.

Yes people have died and people will continue to die. We all will. Why do you feel justified in insulting anyone who disagrees with you, yet expect this man to be above that? I’m honestly curious.

What a silly argument. I am not condemned to die, though it is inevitable. Equating the mortality of all people to execution by the state is a sophistry that does not justify your glee when contemplating the fate of those on death row.

Sorry, not silly. The person I was asking seems to place a higher regard on the confessed murderer’s feelings than his fellow board members. He has no problem gleefully insulting here, although insulting the killer is wrong because he’s “helpless” to the fact that he is going to die. Ridiculous. We’re all going to die.

Plus, I need a cite as to my “glee” about contemplating the fate on death row. Please direct me to where I have made such statements.

You keep repeating that, as if it has any relevance to heaping opprobrium on the condemned.

You didn’t, of course----but it is a necessary caricature, without which the sanctimony proferred by Fear and Soup collapses on itself like a failed soufflé.

One could just as easily counter that they are criminal-coddling pharisees motivated by a sick erotomania toward the condemned, like the perverse stiletto-heeled groupies of Ted Bundy and Richard Ramirez. You don’t know him like >I< do, they insist—I know >I< can change him, if I love him hard enough. In their wettest midnight dreams they imagine themselves being bound and raped by the object of their obsession, giving themselves over, completely and willingly…

I would never personally say that, because it’s obviously untrue and slanderous, and would only serve to lower the tone of debate.

I didn’t think you need it explained to you, but here you go. The person I am responding to (That all of you Captain Save-The-Days want to speak for) has no issue with hurling insults at anyone and everyone who disagrees with them, yet calling a rapist and murderer filth offends their delicate sensibilities because they are “The Condemned” while they will die like we will all die. So because my date of death is unknown, it’s ok to be an ass to me but because Cooey will die in October, he’s off limits?

Stop trying to defend anyone and everyone who is scheduled to die for a minute and think about that. Are you going to go into every thread and defend people everywhere who are insulted or is it just a fetish you have with people on Death Row?

No, I am going to call out idiots who make specious arguments like, “We are all condemned to die” then expect to be patted on the head for making a contribution.

You must be projecting your own wishes regarding your posts, the only thing I expect is an answer from the person that I am having a conversation with. I don’t need head pats from people on the SD to make my life complete, obviously YMMV.

Are you going to answer my question about why “the condemned” deserves to be off limits to ridicule moreso than the rest of us, or are you just here to be a pain in the ass? You have no problem calling ME and idiot because your opinion differs from mine, but I can’t call a confessed rapist and murderer filth because he’s only got two months to live? You make no sense.

It’s sense you want? Good luck with that. Better you should search for a Rabbi in a pork processing plant.

If you were paying attention to the cite, they were talking about the race of the victims. Killing a black person is less likely to get you the death penalty than killing a white person. If justice were truly blind, this wouldn’t be so. Looking back, I didn’t properly explain what the cite actually said.

Sleepy, my boy, if you already wish to regard your life as a sentence to die in the same respect a condemned prisoner must, your parents need either to be sanctified or thrown into a bottomless pit. That’s hyperbole: what you really need is to be educated, unfortunately in the manner you’ve already rejected. First, quit dropping your moral compass: if you’re against the death penalty (as you said), figure out why and be against it, or quit palling around with those who think it’s a fine thing for those who are like themselves, only a little more or less so. Otherwise, quit playing footsie with those who like buttonjockey(or whatever tiny object he currently joyously straddles), or the dunce, or plastic parsnip, have nothing to offer but hoots and catcalls at the condemned. Finally, have a care when it comes to the dunce’s threads: mostly, he takes off without warning, and then what have you got to defend?

Took you almost 3 days to come up with that? Meh.

Updates: Cooey has filed several more suits to avoid the death penalty.

  1. His original sentence was to be executed in the electric chair. Ohio has since, in 2001, outlawed the electric chair, which hadn’t been used in the state anyway since 1963, and switched to lethal injection. Cooey’s suit claims that the court did not sentence him to death by lethan injection.

  2. Cooey claims that at his original 1986 sentencing, he was not allowed to present evidence of his brutal childhood.

  3. Two of the three judges who sentenced him to death have since died, and a third is inactive; Cooey claims that a hearing should be held to determine their replacements for the matter.

  4. He has filed that his execution would violate the state constitution because his death would not be quick and painless.

The execution is scheduled for Oct. 14. The Summit County prosecutor calls Cooey’s arguments delay tactics.

Are there still states that use the firing squad?

**Utah **- Authorizes firing squad if lethal injection is held unconstitutional. Inmates who selected execution by firing squad prior to May 3, 2004, may still be entitled to execution by that method.

**Oklahoma **- Authorizes electrocution if lethal injection is ever held to be unconstitutional and firing squad if both lethal injection and electrocution are held unconstitutional.

**Idaho **- Authorizes firing squad only if lethal injection is “impractical”.

Cooey’s claim that he cannot be executed humanely because of his obesity was rejected yesterday by a federal judge.

His one remaining claim, in which he seeks to have lethal injection declared unconstitutional, is pending. He also has applied for clemency from Ohio Gov. Ted Strickland. The execution is set for October 14.

Cooey filed a complaint yesterday against the State of Ohio, arguing that the state is responsible for his obesity because he was fed so well on his prison diet. He also re-filed his earlier claim that Topamax, the drug he takes to prevent migraines, “could reduce the effectiveness of an anesthetic administered during execution.”

State lawyers say he’s missed the deadlines for filing any appeals, so his claims are not valid.

Bit of a hijack (and a rant), but this got me to wondering… I used to take Topamax for migraines, as well. With my current crappy health insurance, with no prescription plan, I can’t afford it anymore and had to stop taking it. IIRC, it ran around $450 a month. I think it sucks that he’s getting free Topamax in prison, while I’m working two jobs and still can’t afford it.

I take Topamax, and have a good prescription plan for which I am profoundly grateful. That, and the fact that I was slightly acquainted with the victims, is the reason for my interest in this case.

I agree that it sucks that BiblioCat can’t get the proper medication she (he?) needs to conduct a productive, decent, law-abiding life, while a waste of DNA like Cooey gets it for free through my tax dollars. I’m sorry, BiblioCat. Do you take an alternative?

I agree that sucks and I’m sure it’s very frustrating. However, have you tried contacting the pharmaceutical company that makes Topomax? Most of the big pharms now have plans to get their meds to people who can’t afford them.

Just a thought.
