Ohio State-Michigan game tomorrow!

How do you define “several” would be an even better question… :dubious:

“SEC” :stuck_out_tongue:

Ohio State is 0-8 against SEC teams in bowl games. Cite.

How about the fact that more than half of those 33 wins came against teams that either had a losing record, or were I-AA. Of those 33, 2 had 20 or more wins, and 3 more had 9 or more wins.

Compare that to Florida, who has several fewer wins over the same time period, but only 10 wins over losing teams, 4 wins over 10-win teams, and 5 more over teams with 9 or more.

OK. So a guy with the name UGA comes on here to say OSU gets beat by “decent” teams. When it’s pointed out that OSU actually has a pretty good record over the last 3 years, he sites Florida’s record? Ummmm why?

And of the two 10 win teams and three 9 win teams we beat, what more would those teams have had to have done to be considered decent? Oh wait, I already know the answer to that. They would have had to play in the SEC.

Why not? Would you prefer I pick someone else? Florida, like OSU, recently competed for a MNC. They seemed as good a choice as any.

I would concede that OSU has defeated 5 decent teams in the past 3 seasons. Congrats to OSU fans everywhere.

We’ll turn you into a fan yet.

I don’t hate OSU, or the Big-10. Truth be told, I really like Big-10 football, and have visited a couple of those schools, though not during the fall. They play smash-mouth cold-weather football up there, and I like their knowledgeable fans. Historically, it is one of the very best conferences in America.

I wish they played more night games, though. Is that due to TV contract, weather, or both?

I’m just giving Big 10 fans “the business.” (Nothing wrong with a little smack talk going into bowl season.) Ohio State has an excellent football team. An excellent football team with a weak schedule.

I hate the conference strength debates. They can change every week and typically change every year or two.

I don’t think that’s what we’re doing, though.

No? If not, we’re certainly working our way over there.

Here’s the most amazing thing from yesterday’s game.

How in the HELL do you allow that to happen? And before anyone says it’s a shop, it’s not. I remember seeing that very play during the game and hoping that someone, somewhere, got a screencap of it.

That’s terrible. It took me a few seconds to realize what was actually going on in that picture it’s so bad.

This is the dumbest argument ever. Florida scheduled non-conference dynamos like Florida Atlantic, Western Kentucky and Troy this year. LSU scheduled Middle Tennessee State, Tulane and Louisiana Tech. Those are no more robust schedules than OSU’s playing Youngstown State, Akron and Kent State. Every BCS conference team schedules weak, local opponents. Aside from that, comparing conference strengths is a exercise in futility since the teams can only play the teams on their schedule.

It may have been a screen. The offensive linemen usually let their man go (albeit after a moment of blocking, which appears to have not happened here) and then turn and block upfield during a screen pass. The linemen on the right look like they may be releasing upfield. The way the right guard and tight end are facing, it doesn’t appear that they’re even concerned with the defenders that just blew past them. The right tackle is trying to get to the level of linebackers, which could indicate either a run or a screen. The handoff may be a ball fake, as Michigan likes to run screens off of play action.

Do you remember what happened on that play?

Handoff to Hart. You can actually see it developing in the picture. He was, inevitably, tackled for a loss.

In fairness, I don’t think Uga VI has said anything along the lines of “the teams in the Big-10 have wimpy schedules.” What he said was that Ohio St. plays schedules that are relatively lighter, and then falls apart when forced to play a very tough opponent.

If, as is likely the case, the Big-10 isn’t as top to bottom tough as the SEC, then this assertion would be born out by the relative strength of schedules, combined with Ohio St. losses to opponents ranked in the top 5.

No, your’s is.

Of course everyone schedules patsies. I never said otherwise. It is also true that some schools, like Florida, actually schedule some difficult OOC teams.

The numbers I posted speak for themselves, whether you take the time to actually read them or not.

Florida Schedules Florida State every year, they are usually good. That’s their only OOC game worth a damn. This year OSU scheduled underachieving Washington, but they had a home-and-home with #2 Texas the previous two years. The two teams have the exact same philosophy for scheduling. One tough OOC game and 3 local cream-puffs.

The stat you quoted only proves that Florida’s cream-puffs happened to be over .500 in their non-BCS conference while OSUs weren’t Do you really think that a national power playing a 6-4 Sun Belt team is much different than a 4-6 MAC team? OSU’s opponents winning percentage is tied to the cyclic success of their in-state competition.

sigh I’ve said this before, and I’ll say it again. Ohio State does schedule difficult OOC teams. This is just a down year, with Washington being so crappy. The previous 2 years we scheduled Texas in a home and home. Starting next year we have USC in a home and home. I think we have Miami after that. If Miami still sucks, not Ohio State’s fault. So how many other teams schedule Texas, USC, & Miami for 6 out of 7 years?
