Oi! I’m coming to Sydney in August. I land the morning of 9/18 and will be leaving on Sunday 9/25. If anyone wants to get a drink… or dinner… or show me some sites I’m all up for that!
I’ll be staying at the La Meridian.
It’s a working trip so most of the weekday hours will be spent working but I do have time in the evenings, the 18th, most of the 19th and the 24th for fun and games.

18th, 19th and 24th works for me, though you’ll probably want to just take it easy on the 18th after the flight.
Evenings don’t work at all for me, but if they work fine for everyone else, I’ll just have to see the pics.

I’d be glad to extend a bit o’ Sydney hospitality to you, along with Goo, woolly, reprise, or whoever is available. It’s time we had another Sydney Dopefest.
The 24th is the best day for me as I don’t have to work, and I can hopefully steal my car back from my girlfriend.
If you haven’t already done the Harbour / Opera House tourist bit by that stage, we can spend the day down there if you like. Maybe catch the famous Manly ferry (it’s really very butch), then fish and chips on Manly Beach, or if you’d rather an evening bash, we can hunker down in a pub somewhere.

Conversely BMU, if you’re at a loose end prior to that, we can probably arrange something somewhere in the city.

Woo! Quite the turnout for lil ol’ me! Sounds great! I don’t have any specific plans yet. I’d really like to get some pics and such (the opera house would be grand if I don’t see it by then). I was also told to hit the Many ferry and was also told to hit Doyle’s seafood.
Quite frankly for anyone willing to be a tourguide for me on the 24th I’d love to see some sights, to get a taste of what Sydney is all about, and afterwards some good olf fashioned drinkin
If anyone else wanted to have a night or two out I may be game for that as well.

I don’t even know what’s near the La Meridian, as this is my first trip to Sydney.
And I was just there, too. (went for a week, met a girl, stayed for 2).
It so happens that smiley_brat will be away overnight on the 19th on a school camp, which means that I can pretty much fit in with any plans which include evening stuff for the 19th (if the jetlag doesn’t kill you BMU).
Do we want to aim for two specific “events”? A low-key, jetlagged “welcome to Sydney” thingy on Monday 19th and a more “let’s show you Sydney and get pissed together” thing on Saturday 24th? (Do you still have Mondays off work TLD?)
Nope, reprise. Well, not usually. I need either Tuesday or Wednesday if I can get it, so I can take Ben to preschool, and pick him up again. I will only really be available in the late afternoon / evening of my day off, and any time on the Saturday.
Monday ought to be ok. I need to work a half day so something low key would be nice… i can’t get too smashed as i need to work Tuesday morning teaching a class.
A Saturday free-for-all sounds great too!

Dunno about the “La Meridian”, but “Le Meridien” is located in Jamison St, which is around here.
blah blah blah la le… what’s the difference. I’m sure with my yank accent it all sounds the same to you folks anyway.

BurnMeUp mentioned Doyles and woolly spoke of The Gap. Recently a bunch of us from work, in Parramatta, took the ferry to Watson’s Bay to have lunch at the pub version of Doyles. It was a bloody great day out.
The ferry runs every couple of hours and is probably pretty popular on weekends but its a great trip along the harbour. When you arrive at Watson’s Bay you only have a 50 metre walk to lunch. If you feel energetic there’s a good flat walk out the back to South Head, Lady Beach, Camp Cove etc.
You’ll have to drag me kicking and screaming. I might also invite my sister who is a doper but I’m not telling you her name.
I know the seasons are different down under, but is the calendar?
Yeah Rilchiam…you know that International Date Line thingy…well you guys are actually a MONTH behind us Antipodeans, not just a day!!
God I love Watson’s Bay. In April I went to Doyle’s and had a prawn salad and a bottle of chilled Aussie wine, and watched the magnificent sunset.
There are two places I’d love to live when I move back to Oz, and they are Watson’s Bay and Byron Bay.
Sigh.
