That’s certainly the implication of a couple posters here: http://boardstest.straightdope.com/sdmb/showthread.php?t=481441
Hey, I see what you did there! Good one!
So … if Jesus’ followers fail to live up to His example, should I therefore conclude that his ideas were a nieve pipedream?
Sorry, this is not logic I can support. Nor would I gloat if Christianity were to end. I can think of some who would but…
Nevermind. You can all flame me now for drawing the paralell.
I didn’t realise there was this level of antipathy for Bricker.
It probably doesn’t mean much, but while I disagree with this particular OP, i’ve always had and will continue to have great respect for him. I’ve always thought him a reasonable and genuine poster, and i’m happy to take him at his word for what he believes. I may disagree with him on a lot of issues but I have no doubt he comes to his positions honestly and with a hell of a lot more thinking that do a lot of people, on any side of a debate.
Oh, so not Obama’s campaign or the media then.
Yeah, I agree with the others, changing your vote based on rumours from people posting on a message board is idiotic.
But as has been pointed out, you’re unwilling to actually live the lesson you profess to care about. You’re presenting it as if you’ve got no choice but to get down and dirty, but that’s bullshit and you know it. What do you actually gain from this rubbish? What are you going to gain from gloating, rubbing people’s noses in something, calling them pussies? Yeah, you’ll be no worse than the next prick, but you’ll still be a prick.
You want post-partisanship? Then support the candidate whose policies you prefer, but do it in the style you profess to desire. Ignore the bullshit artists, and debate with the sane; they do exist, you know. Neither candidate has yet debased themselves, and yet you’re chucking in the towel. Don’t you think changing the political habits of a nation might take a bit more than a few months? Maybe you will be pissing in the wind, but if you really do give a hoot about dignified politics, you’ll at least feel better about yourself. If, on the other hand, you just want to pretend to be holier-than-thou while continuing business as usual, then this thread is pretty much perfect.
For what it’s worth, I broadly agree with you; I’d hoped this election might represent something of a post-partisan watershed, seeing as both candidates are plainly decent men who would make competent Presidents. Like you, I’m somewhat disappointed. But this thread is a tawdry capitulation; it’s a childish game of “who started it” that gives the lie to your commitment to the idea of post-partisanship in the first place.
He’s a Republican. It’s an election season. And he’s really hard to out-debate, and nearly impossible to browbeat.
Forget it, Jake. It’s Chinatown.

Shodan
Yeah, that’s exactly the issue. He sure has staked out an unassailable position here.
I think this one is more like “The Two Jakes.”
Of course he has. That’s why you resort to abuse.
Haven’t seen that one.
Of course, I’m not into gay porn.
Regards,
Shodan
That’s what all Republicans say until they get caught.
The rage is simple…Bricker has mopped the floor with all you raging, pissing, immature little raging leftist fucks for the past 8 years. He’s done it with style, grace, and I’m sure, a smirk on his face.
Yep - when I think of style and grace, I need look only to the OP here to remind me what they mean.
p.s. u r dum.
Hm. So what you were really hoping for is that by offering the opportunity of your vote, Obama would stop people from posting things you don’t like on the SDMB?
The liberal media apologizes to you: Why the media should apologize - POLITICO
I resent the implication, Bricker.
My posts (political, that is) go mostly to contesting the bullshit I see coming from the left around here and in the country at large. I do very little in the way of proselytizing my own ideas of what Republicans should attempt to accomplish (in the main), and I certainly don’t think my way is the only way.
The two main things that gripe me about this place are 1) the way conservatives are portrayed here (proving the adage that while conservatives (like me) think liberals have bad ideas, liberals think conservatives are bad people). I see outrageous and ridiculous characterizations of conservatives/Republicans around here all the time and none of the so-called ignorance-fighters alleged to populate this place says boo about it.
And 2) The way the obviously biased leftie media is championed as being fair, objective and honest.
You and Sam Stone have a more patient, carefully worded and even tone to your posts and that’s fine. I could mimic that approach and perhaps come in for slightly less vituperation than I do now (although you see how even you are being treated now by the likes of TVeblen and her ilk), but to me it’s better to just speak my mind and let the chips fall where they may. I have chosen not to waste time walking on metaphorical egg shells so as not to piss off people who routinely disparage those who think as I do in the most ridiculous (and worse, inaccurate) terms.
Everyone has their own style and reasons for saying the things they do. The fact that I’ve chosen a more reactionary and less patient style than you does not mean I think I know my viewpoint is the only one. However, I must say that it’s been my experience that the conservatives on this board (including me) are much more tolerant of leftie issues (racism, gay rights, feminism, etc.) than the lefties are of conservative issues (Christianity, family values, attempts at social and economical engineering, etc.).
Euphonious Polemic:
:D:D:D:D:D
Fuck off, Bricker. You’re a caricature.
And this is what we have to look forward to in the new free-to-post world order… :dubious:
I would agree this is a minor bump in an otherwise stellar contributory effort here over the years. Give the guy a break.
On the other hand, we could always dive to the depths of screaming rants such as are your forte.
Crushed. Just destroyed. Had such hopes, watching friend Bricker make lurching, tentative steps away from the path of political error. I had hoped that our gentle guidance and remonstrance was having a positive influence, that one more soul might be saved. one more mind freed from the bonds of reactionary claptrap. But it is not to be.
Now, pending victory is but a pale shadow. Sure, I will dance in the street and gloat with unseemly joy, but my heart won’t be in it, one tender lamb has been left ungathered, to wander in darkness. The soy steaks will be ashes in my mouth, the sparkling waters just so much wormwood and gall.
So empty inside.
OK, I’m over it! Sic 'em, Barack! These guys are so full of shit, they need an extra asshole, so tear 'em one!
“But you fuck one goat…”
I have heard this before from non-Americans, and I don’t want to believe it. I sincerely hope it’s not true.
Then some fucking retard posts that he decides whom to vote for based on what a bunch of nobodies write on an insignificant message board, and I begin to fear that you may be right.
