Well, Coldfire writes inteeligent, thoughtful posts. DTL, on the other hand, thinks the Holocaust is a good source of humor, posted a pathetic ego-feeding thread, and is an ignorant, whiny, and annoying tro, er,* poster*. I’d have to go with Coldfire on this one.

At the risk of sounding like DTL’s defender (WHICH I AM NOT), I must say that I got it when he said that Nazi thing. It was in bad taste, but I got the sarcasm he intended. We in the USA were spared a firsthand view of the horror of the Holocaust, and 2 generations and a billion tv shows later, it seems like a sad fairy tale, a “once upon a time” kind of thing. It’s sad, but true.

It was long ago and far away for you, so such remarks seem harmless, but in Europe people are much more sensitive to this issue because it happened there, to them. It really isn’t thrown around lightly, as it was a horrific, unimaginable series of events. The scars of the holocaust are still evident, and the ashes of Hitler’s victims are still smouldering in the minds and hearts of many people. If you grew up around people who were wounded so badly, 50 years later, they still couldn’t talk about it, you wouldn’t find it useful fodder for satire or amusement either. It would serve yourself to apologize and move on to new things.
