I think it’s worth watching a few times, at least pausing it several times.
Again with these guys it seems that their song is secondary to their video though I really like This Too Shall Pass and Here It Goes Again and not just because of the videos.
I thought the celebrating - and applauding the crew who helped pull it off - was a great touch.
IIRC, “Here It Goes Again” (still my personal favorite video by these guys…the music’s hit-or-miss for me) was directed by the sister of one of the band members.
Yep, it definitely was. Single take videos of ridiculously complex setups and choreography are OK Go’s “thing.” If you haven’t seen any of their previous videos, go to Youtube and check out the treadmill dance for “Here It Goes Again,” the 3-minute Rube Goldberg machine of “This Too Shall Pass,” or the outdoor live-action stop motion of “End Love.”
My personal favorite is the massive live performance of “Needing/Getting” done while driving a car, the video for which isn’t a single shot per se, but was built entirely from footage and audio recorded during a single take. It’s one of the most creative musical performances I’ve ever seen.
As an aside, people often find OK Go’s actual music a bit hit-or-miss, but I personally love their songs. Stylistically, they’ve veered over time from the jagged dance rock popular during the mid-Aughts to an airy, more studio-focused style, but they’ve consistently been one of the most uninhibitedly joyous bands to emerge during the internet era. Listening to their music never fails to put a giant, stupid grin on my face.
You can tell it was done in the same space and by the same crew that did their This Too Shall Pass Rube Goldberg video.
I love all their stuff, especially their video for End Love, But this is in their top two or three for me. Love optical illusions and forced perspective.
Also, their last album Of the Blue Colour of the Sky was pretty damn good too. I hope their new one is at least as good as they seem to get better with subsequent releases. Downloading their EP now…
I was wondering if it was the same place. I thought i recognized some of the structures but then there could be a large number of warehouses built to a similar plan.
