Okgo's latest cool video, Obsession

That’s a lotta paper!

(And yes, I know they spell it OK Go, but it’s easier to search as Okgo).

Does anyone know anyone who legitimately likes their music? Listens to it and see the band in concert? It always seems to me that anytime the band is mentioned it’s always “look at their cool video!” and not “Listen to this dope song!”

Am I crazy or does it seem there are elements that are slightly related to previous videos?
Stop-motion from Last Leaf and End Love, mimicking zero-G from Upside Down and Inside Out, the visual theme from the beginning of The One Moment.

Whatever, they have another freakin’ winner.

I like most of the songs from their videos but overall, they’re all over the place.
I’m not much of a “really listens to music” type but my opinion is they’re fairly average and unremarkable.
I would rank 'em right up there as Beatle-like with their videos.

Fair enough. I wouldn’t listen to them but for their cool videos.

I’d rate them as good musicians and great video production artists.

Bumped to add some behind-the-scenes videos.

If I misremember correctly, they’re pretty up front about their songs vs. their videos. They make decent but fairly unremarkable tunes but hit a niche with inspired videos.

That being said, Here It Goes Again was the first song by OK GO that I’ve heard and I think it’s pretty good. I also think this version of This Too Shall Pass is outstanding, superior to the “studio” one.

I bought their album Of the Blue Colour of the Sky and their first album Ok Go (cuz it was on sale for $5 on Amazon I think) and was ready to be blown away but came away thinking “meh.” I think “Needing/Getting” is a fan-fucking-tastic song and was disappointed to see it in a car commercial. Not because I give two shits if a band makes some money off their art, it’s just too great of an emotional song for a car commercial.

I didn’t get into them enough as a whole to go to their show when they came through last year. Actually I kind of wanted to go just to see what kind of show they put on (I imagine “artful”?) but didn’t go. I thought it was pretty well attended. Of course, now I can’t find any mention of them being here since 2010 so maybe I am full of shit and Cleveland doesn’t do Ok Go. Hmm…

Anyway, re: this video…for some reason I’m not that impressed. I guess it’s an impressive feat but you could also do it with CGI so why’d you waste all that time, fellas?

Even more remarkable is all the corporate sponsorship (with funding and technical assistance) they’re had and yet retained full creative control of the video.
Even to the point of minimal mention of the sponsor.

Dunno, I was more impressed by their previous videos. It just felt like they were on a low-quality blue screen for most of it and the stop motion didn’t give any sense that they were having to bust their asses to make the video. In the one where they were being chased by the goose everywhere, you could tell that they were really out there doing it. Here, they could be going for an hour then taking a half hour break for coffee, coming back, doing another hour, then take the rest of the day off.

I’m sure that it was still an immense amount of work, logistics, etc. but it just lacks the oomph for me.

Bumped.

Here’s Herb Albert playing “Puttin’ on the Ritz” - a funny dance video: Herb Alpert - Puttin' on the Ritz - YouTube

Filmed in one take, I think, or at least it looks that way. Reminds me a little of OK Go’s videos. See if you can spot Herb three times and his wife and muse Lani Hall (Lani Hall - Wikipedia) twice.

And the gorilla! Don’t forget the gorilla!
