We watched for Richard Kline (Jack Tripper’s buddy from Three’s Company) and didn’t recognize him until the end, when Kerry told him he was fired.
Why the hell isn’t Morris gone yet? He is such a jackass. Way to deal with a patient whose daughter might be dead. Did we ever find out what happened to the woman’s husband? I found this show extremely fast-paced in spots and hard to keep up (especially with three dogs jumping around in front of my face, seemingly always during the busiest parts).
Why do you think the gang-bang girl came back? Were they suggesting that she would go for an abortion after all? Loved how Sam decked the boyfriend.
Well, I was just popping into CS to start this, but I really don’t mind not doing it.
Morris: no one who’s there now has seen the full story, have they? They’ve seen bits and pieces of his incompetence, but since no one in the ER seems to discuss the residents and their capabilities, I guess it just hasn’t been discovered yet - and only Romano saw him smoking pot. I figure they’re going one of two ways with him: Morris screws up big, but this scares him enough so that he takes it seriously, or Morris screws up and finally gets fired/commits suicide/goes to jail/whatever.
The woman’s husband died - I don’t know that we saw it, but when she was sitting there talking about never really wanting to have kids before she had them, and dreams about sleeping in the bed alone - she made some comment about now that dream was true.
I figure the gang-bang girl is going to go for the abortion, and that even though Sam kept getting pulled away from her, something she said combined with her boyfriend’s reaction to the pregnancy (IIRC he was going on about her ruining his life) finally got through to her.
I knew the little girl was going to show up and be ok - perhaps slightly injured if not completely fine.
Could a hospital really call the cops on a TB patient who does not stay for treatment? I mean, I suppose that since it’s a communicable disease and a matter of public health that there are some steps that can be taken, but having someone arrested seems a little extreme. BUT, I also admit to not knowing a huge amount about TB.
Shouldn’y Carter and his girlfriend be a litle more careful about her pregnancy. Would you take your pregnant girlfriend iceskating for the first time in her life?
Morris survives. When most of the staff is laid off from budget cuts, Morris will be the only one left.
The husband died before the son did. I think they said he was dead right when the hummer guy finally realized that he was the one driving. (He said, “is that guy dead?” and Abby or Sam or whoever it was just nodded.)
BTW, the wife was played by Marin Hinckle, who was the flighty sister on Once and Again, if anyone watched that show.
I noticed that J.K. Simmons’ (J. Jonah Jamison from 2002’s Spiderman) name was in the opening credits last night. But I missed about half the episode, and never saw him. Who was he? (Spoilers welcome)
bordelond, from his picture on IMDb he looks to me like the Hummer driver, the guy who had a heart attack when Sam told him he’d creamed that family. (Minus the mustache and most of the hair.)
I wondered if Sherry Stringfield was pregnant IRL in last week’s thread, and no one knew. I’m thinking she must be, for her to be “showing” so suddenly.
Maybe Ming-Na took time off to make a movie? Or is she leaving the show? I like her character; I hope she comes back.
So Kem is going back to the Congo. Will she come back to the U.S. to have the baby?
I was glad that Sam’s kid went for the sleepover. He is a bit much.
Would ice skating really be that dangerous for a pregnant woman? Is it any more dangerous than her going back to live in Congo?
What’s the worst that would happen for a novice ice skater? You might trip and break your wrist or arm? She could do that on the sidewalk. I doubt the woman has been in too many Chicago-style winters.
I thought Kem was from Canada, so she should have ice-skated before, right? Or am I thinking of another Congo nurse?
JK Simmons plays Dr. Emil Skoda on Law & Order as the resident psychiatrist. BD Wong is on Law and Order: SVU.
I can’t believe Carter paid $9000 just to say goodbye to Kem again. Jeez…just how rich is he? Multi-millionaire?
If Sam had Alex when she was 15, isn’t she a little young to be a nurse? That would make her what, in her early 20s? And for a girl who had to work double shifts at Baskin Robbins to save up money for an abortion, how the hell did she afford nursing school?
And just out of curiousity, how come no one ever suggests putting the baby up for adoption? I’m not anti-abortion, but there is a third choice besides abortion or keeping the baby.
I also would have like to see what Leila wanted to talk to Sam about.
The nurse, whats-her-name, who was with Luka was from Canada. Was her name Gillian? I think Kem said she was from France originally, or had lived there at one point.
Carter is a millionaire many times over, I believe. Possibly billions. Both grandparents just died in recent years, so he also inherited their money. In Secrets & Lies, the one where Carter, Luka, Gallant, Susan and Abby spent the day at the sexual harrassment seminar, Abby kept bugging him about exactly how much money he had, asking, “Come on, $50 million? $60 million?” He never said exactly how much but you got the impression he’s seriously loaded.
How old is Alex, 10 or 11? So Sam is 25 or 26. Yeah, they never explain how she supported herself, much less paid for nursing school while she had a young child.
I’m guessing she hasn’t been a nurse very long.
Drawing a blank… who was Leila and why did she want to talk to Sam?
I have a couple questions stemming from this week’s episode:
What Romano lawsuits? What nurse with the hat and funny little dog?
When Kem first showed up, wasn’t she noticeably pregnant? When I saw her this epsiode, I thought she must have had a mishap in the episode I missed last week.
But here are my suppositional answers to a couple questions in trade:
ivylass: Chen gave her child up for adoption, so it is an option in the show. And I don’t think the word “abortion” was used with the young girl, just something about not keeping the baby, and what one wants now they might not want later. Which one could take several ways, in the fluctuations of feeling we see Sam having–i.e. she wanted to have an abortion, but it was too late, now she really loves her bastard spawn, yet can sympathise with the desire to be free of the responsibility and the guilt of feeling that way.
Bibliocat When Weaver takes Sam to task (unjustified in my opinion, Sam requested that the angry boyfriend let go of her after he grabbed her violently, he did not comply, continued his aggression…I believe you shouldn’t have to wait for someone to break your wrist before defending yourself, no matter how cinematic your defense might prove) she says that Sam has a record or pattern of icidents like this and has left many hospitals. She seems like a very experienced nurse, but maybe just 'cuz she’s sharp (if not downright grating ;))
And maybe she worked double shifts at Baskin-Robbins to pay for an abortion, but if you are motivated it can be easier to get student loans, scholarships and financial aid for school than money for a D&C. Especially if you have a kid with juvenile diabetes to wave around as inspiration for people to open their pockets and admissions.
Okay, I have yet another question. What happened to Chen’s parents? Last I saw them she went to their home for Christmas pregnant and was shunned. So I thought they lived nearby.
Chen’s parents were on a vacation to China. They were involved in a car accident there. Her mother has since died of the injuries. She went there to care for them.
Originally her parents were wealthy and appeared to be quite assimilated. Nancy Kwan played her mother the first time. Then this year, they switched to a pair of Chinese-American actors who looked to be first generation immigrants and were quite traditional.
Gah! I was so disgusted with this episode, I couldn’t pinpoint which part made me cringe the most. Usually I’ll watch ER until the end, but I was 2/3 through this episode, and just clicked it off.
The writers made us care for Carter and Newsradio Chick, the all of a sudden we’re supposed to be happy for him and this chick he met in Africa, and they’re having a baby? The scenes kept jumping from the trauma in the ER to their happy go lucky day that I could give two shits about. Stupid Hummer Driver pissed me off. Stupid Stoned Intern pissed me off with the tactless hole he kept digging everytime he opened his mouth. Dumbass Blonde Teenager pissed me off with her “but he loves me and we’re going to get married—he loves me so much he lets his friends watch and have sex with me too!” crap. UGH!!
I didn’t care what happened to the characters. I stopped my tape and went on to better things. I didn’t even read this thread before replying because I didn’t give a crap how it ended!!
