Did we lose the “New Threads” thing?

[ul]
[li]I hear tell of “social groups” being accessible from the user CP, but mine doesn’t have it. [/li]
[li]No search?![/li][/ul]

Go back to ATMB.

Look up.

(Sticky saying that search/new threads is disabled)

I believe Social Groups have also been disabled while Jerry (bless his heart, send him some pizza and dancing girls in the wardrobe of his choice) continues to work out the kinks in the upgrade.

When a post gets quoted, there’s a little arrow in the quote box. If you click on it, it takes you back to the quoted post. That’s cool.

And is that spell check?

Why yes, yes it is.

I thought paying members weren’t going to see ads anymore. I have Google ads at the bottom of the page, but no banner ad.

Quick reply seems to be missing in action.
NEW feature-wise, the first one I’ve found is [this](mailto:cecil.adams@chicagoreader.com?subject=Greetings from the Teeming Millions&cc=joe.blow@domain.com&Body=This is a test of the email generating system, that is to say that this version of vBulletin appears to support full-fledged email URLs, finally! Which is quite cool)

It seems to me that this box reloads the entire page, then jumps to the bookmarked post. If the board is going to be up and running without all the delays and timeouts, great. But if there are similar issues (even just normal network issues), then this looks good, but in practice may be problematic.

Of course, there’s the possibility that I’m just an idiot and jumps to a bookmarked post in-browser.

One thing I’ve noticed is that “Mark this Forum read” doesn’t go back to the main forum page. So if I click that in “About This Message Board”, after the refresh, I remain in that forum, but all the threads are now marked read. I’m guessing that’s a feature in the new version of vBulletin, since I’ve encountered that same behavior on other boards.

Does anyone know if theres a user option I can set to go back to the old behavior? I couldn’t find anything in user CP that seemed to apply.

Jerry’s still struggling with MySQL problems, and we definitely don’t have all the kinks out yet. There are several things that we had updated and/or customized, which he’s having to go out and rebuild, several that are flaky/unreliable, and several that are just turned off while we’re still working on them.

I’m not fully up-to-speed, but here’s an update on a few specifics:

  1. The “new threads” thing (“New Posts”). It should be working now.

  2. Quick Reply - It’ll be back, but it’s not at the top of the priority list right now.

  3. User-Created Social Groups - We’re haggling over details (there are a lot of options and settings) and trying to figure out how to do it. No promises yet on how they’ll work.

  4. Titles - Don’t worry, Charter Members, you’ll get your titles back. It’s just pretty low on Jerry’s list.

Most of the rest is on “wait and see.” Priority #1 is getting everything stable and solid. When this puppy runs, it runs fast. Unfortunately, it’s still popping up and down.

No, it does the full reload for me, too. I guess there’s no easy way to check that the quoted post is on the same page. Pages are dynamically generated, the number of posts per page can vary among users, etc.

But it makes the quoted post easy to find, and that’s very useful.

That’s a Firefox feature, not vBulletin.

Yes and no. I can get it in IE6 as well.

Because it uses AJAX, I would’ve thought it would be a useful feature to ease the server load.

Though admittedly I don’t know how much of a load AJAX puts on a server.
