OK, I've seen The Avengers - open spoilers!

Yup, great line. I also loved Stark’s line that was in the trailer:

“I’m a huge fan of the way you lose control and turn into an enormous green rage monster.”

I wouldn’t say that Hawkeye was underused - he just had his best moments before he got on the side of good… again. I mean, c’mon, he basically single-handedly built a fighting force, crippled the helicarrier, freed Loki, and set in motion the third act. That’s a lot for a guy with a bow.

“Thanks.”

Even having seen the line in the trailer, though, it still played out as hilarious, because it turns out that Stark really does respect Banner. I wasn’t expecting that at all, but it worked.

I heard it as, “Pucker up, Legolas!” Either way,

[li]Funny, and,[/li][li]Un- or mis-heard by half the audience, and didn’t get nearly as many laughs as it deserved.[/li][/ol]

I couldn’t believe the number of people that left the theater after the Thanos reveal. People - STAY. UNITL. THE. END. The absolute end. The they’re-sweeping-up-the-popcorn end. The “what are you still doing here?” end.

Leaving the theater, there was a group of 15-16 year-old girls walking in front of me. One of them was wearing an awesome Captain America hoodie, and asked of one of her friends, “Joss Whedon was the guy who created ‘Buffy’, right?” Her friend answered in the affirmative, at which point hoodie girl replied, “Well I say, ‘God bless Joss Whedon!’”

Amen, young Whedonite. Amen.

I might go see it again just to see the post-credits tag. It wasn’t attached to the press screen I attended.

That said, considering that Tony Stark spent several months living in the Middle East in the first Iron Man movie I find it hard to believe he hasn’t had (let alone doesn’t know what it is) schwarma.

Well, I doubt his captors were telling him what they were feeding him. It doesn’t seem like something that would come up.

‘What the hell kind of slop are you feeding me?’
‘Schwarma, shut up and eat’

Naw, don’t see that happening and since it’s relatively new popularity wise (at least here) and he’s pretty damn rich that he’s not really going to walk down the road and grab the nearest burger.. actually wait, he wanted McDs when he got back but that’s sort of all American. I can see him not knowing what schwarma is though. I knew what a donair was long before schwarma and it was years later before I tried it.

  1. Tony was in Afghanistan, not the Middle East

  2. He went to Burger King, not McDs.

  3. He might know schwarma as a gyro.

  4. It was definitely “Pucker up.”

  5. “Am I the only one who did the homework?”

  6. <tink> <tink> “This usually works.”

  7. Cap paying off the bet.

Yes! Brilliantly done.

Moved this exchange from the spoiler thread.

You are awesome. I have repaired to a bar to watch baseball but will return to the boards later.

Loved the movie, but am I the only one who saw Dark Eldar when the Chitari were zooming about. Looked like Reavers, Splinter Rifles, and a Webway portal to me.

One thing that I didn’t like was the Council that Fury reported to. First of all, they were a bit over-the-top in their bureaucratic evil, seeming to exist only to give Fury someone to rebel against, and always doing the exact wrong thing so as to justify his constant rebellion. Second, who the heck are these people, that they’re in a position to authorize the nuking of Manhattan? Shouldn’t the President be involved in that decision? It strained my suspension of disbelief.

The Pentagon refused to cooperate because the script didn’t satisfy them as to what the chain of command was.

I don’t know about the Atom, but: http://www.hitfix.com/articles/is-edgar-wrights-ant-man-movie-finally-making-progress

Can we please get Namor in the sequel?

Also, Mark Ruffalo and Robert Downey Jr’s interactions were by far the highlights of the movie. Norton turning down the role is possibly the best thing that could have happened to the Avengers. His mannerisms as the mild mannered Bruce Banner were way better than the skittery near-Hulk Norton played. Can we get more scenes of Ruffalo and Downey science-ing it up?

I have a feeling the DVD will be just packed with such as you wish.

I suspect that Fox holds the rights to him as a Fantastic Four character.

Pretty sure they no longer own the Fantastic Four…
Which is supposed to be rebooted in '14, however Fox has expressed interested in filming the reboot… Isn’t Namor a standalone character though?

According tothis “report”, Namor’s movies rights are uncertain. As part of Fantastic Four’s universe or as the “first mutatnt” (X-men), he should belong to Fox. But, both of those were created in the 60s while Namor actually predates both and had his own series back in the 40s. He theoretically belongs to Marvel.

I started a separate thread to discuss potential members in the sequel.

Thor’s choice of the Chrysler Building a a perch for his lightning rod attack was stylistically perfect as it’s deco design would be right at home in Asgard.
