OK, sewists and crafters: what are you working on?

Cat fish, dog fish, parrot fish, sun fish - you’re good with visual puns.

a bunch of men in suits (board of directors) walking, for the title.

I just finished a beadwork belt and am working on a beadwork shawl

Good call…I’m going to the party store tonight so I will have to see what I can rig up!

I scored a coup this weekend for the wallhanging. It features a net coming off the boat, with a few fish buttons attached inside it. With one guy outside looking in at his “twin” who was captured. I decided that was too sad and that I should cut out the bottom of the net and give the guy something he could have used to free his pals. At WalMart I looked and looked and just when I was going to give up I saw an embroided iron-on decal of tiny scissors. A fish using scissors? It was irresistable and perfect.

I have made ‘ragdoll’ quilts for young boys out of wild fabric squares (cars, flames, tractors, etc.) that they have dragged around forever and wrapped up in to watch movies. (Our extended family tend to watch movies in heaps like puppies.)
I am making jewelry like mad for a craft show in mid-December, and trying to keep it out of sight of my two teenage daughters. I’ve been decoupaging vintage foreign stamps onto bamboo rectangular tiles and stringing on cord for necklaces, making beads out of strips of vintage comic books/Japanese anime and assembling the beads into bracelets and necklaces.
I need to work on weaving, but somehow it keeps getting put to the bottom of the pile in the priorities.:frowning:

I’ve been using my serger and Coverpro to re-size a large stack of tee shirts, turtlenecks, pullovers, etc that are too loose on me. Some are too large because I’ve lost some weight but more are just because I have a closet full of loose fitting oversized stuff from when that was the style.

I just finished remodelling several pairs of jeans and casual slacks to a smaller size. It worked out OK but the jeans were a pain in the neck. When I finished I went out and bought 2 new pairs of jeans and 2 pairs of chinos to celebrate:cool:

I’ve been cross-stitching my heart out since Memorial Day, and I only have 3 projects left to finish off Christmas!

Much of it is Scottish/Celtic-themed. I just finished a book cover/carrier with the Green Man for a friend in my Robert Burns group, and I’m working on a bookmark in another friend’s family tartan.

I did a K-State Power Cat for my mom (big blocks of purple and white sounded so simple, but I nearly ran mad), a nurse sampler for my SIL, and my next project will be a “Hand Over the Coffee and Nobody Gets Hurt” for a friend/fellow coffee addict.

Woo!

I just finished a cross-stitched bookmark with a tentacle on it (suckers and all). V. proud. Unfortunately the batteries in my camera died.

I’m working on the brown velveteen dress and secretly cutting out doll clothes for Christmas presents. And last night I started to try smocking, which is simple but finicky–if you don’t stitch straight it doesn’t look right.

Cool! I’m glad people are still smocking. That was my Grandma’s craft of choice and she must have made hundreds of smocked dresses over the years.

I’m working on this for myself, in dark cyan…which was the project I posted about last time I answered in one of these threads…but then I’m making this for a friend for Christmas. Hopefully I can get the yarn this week, although I was thinking of using something from the Noro color-changing line instead of whatever they’re using, although what they’ve got is cool, too.

My best friend is having a baby boy in December, so I’m making an I-spy quilt for him. I guess the idea is that you use up quilt scraps you’ve collected over the years, but I’m still pretty beginner, and don’t have much saved up. I think the fabric cutter wanted to kill me when I came up to the counter with 30 bolts of fabric, and only wanted 1/8 yard of each.

Also, my husband has gotten a bit jealous of all the stuff I make for other people, so I’m making him a pair of PJ pants. Anyone know if I can just use his pants size instead of trying to wrap a measuring tape around him while he sleeps? I’d like it to be a surprise.

Some shops won’t cut less than a quarter yard. I always buy a little bit more than the pattern calls for – that helps build the scrap stash. If you’re in the States, PM me with your address and I’ll help you build your stash. I want new stuff but can’t justify buying more until I get rid of what I have.

A Clapotis for myself to wear in my office – I have one wall that is a big window and it gets COLD in there!

Also making Webkinz/doll clothing and accessories with my daughter with her new little sewing machine. We got a pile of remnants the other day so I am teaching her the basics of patterns and sizings.

I’m not making any gifts this year – not enough time to finish them, probably, but later on I will start a scarf/hat for my daughter and a skater beanie for my son. Husband will get a scarf in his college colors as well.

Thanks, Auntie Pam! But, I already bought all I need last night. Would have been cooler to have collected everything I needed, though. Very Tiny House syndrome currently prevents me from hoarding up lots of rainy day fabric. Would you like my leftover scraps so you can start on one yourself?

Thanks, but I’m fully stocked. I wouldn’t mind seeing the pattern for the I Spy quilt you’re making though. Is there a photo or a link?

No, nothing that fancy. Just going to be 3.5" finished squares with a 1" border around each. If I get real ambitious, I might stagger them, like bricks. I’m using two of each “picture” so he can play a matching game with it, too.

I’m thinking the finished product will look sort of like this. I actually ended up with a couple of those same fabrics, too. Someday, I’d like to try one like this.

Those are really cute! I see novelty fabric in the shop and I want to get some but I never know what to do with it. Making a matching game using the novelties is a great idea.

I’ve done all my subversive cross-stitching for now, but I’m working on a tote bag for my Mother-in-law’s birthday. It’s a denim tote that I’m cross-stitching a design on from this book using waste canvas. It’s my first try with this technique, but it’s going well so far. We’ll see how easy the canvas comes out in a week or so.

(If you clicked on the link, I’ve already stitched the heart from the cover onto a mesh cosmetic bag for myself.)

The hexagon version is the one I’m most familiar with. The matching game aspect is a great idea!
