I’ve noticed that there seem to be a lot of couples posting to the board, including at least a few who met here. I think it’s time for a complete list. Why? Well, I have no idea why. It just seems like a good idea.
So fess up here. Who’s seeing whom? Don’t “out” others, but which of you people is seeing another Doper?
If you met through the board, give us the dirt! What about the other persons posts made you say, “Hey, that’s a person I’d like to meet?” How much email/telephone before a personal meeting? How awkward/natural was the first date? When/how did you decide to come out to other Dopers?
To repeat: I am encouraging people to tell their stories. I am discouraging people from telling others’ stories.
And if a couple decides to come clean for the first time in this thread, that would be really cool.
Well, I was going to tell about manhattan and Phaedrus (who really believes that those $10,000 changing hands was only for a stupid bet), but I guess, according to the rules in the OP, that manhattan will have to come clean of his own volition.

Okay, I don’t think anyone really needs me to say who I’m with, right?
Frankly, for the longest time, I thought he’d just be a cool guy to catch a football game with (his taste in teams notwithstanding). We were buddies for quite a while. It’s easier to develop a friendship between two people of the opposite sex when one is in a relationship and the other is a confirmed bachelorette. Or was, anyway.
We first started chatting in late June or early August of last year. Our first voice chat was probably in late October, and our first phone call in November. We met in December.
Our first meeting didn’t really involve a “date,” per se. It was, however, incredibly comfortable–definitely more so than the waiting for it.
Didn’t really decide it ourselves, it just sort of happened. I’d probably be a lot more open about posting pictures and stuff if all that stuff hadn’t gone down, but as is, I decided long before that to keep the details of my relationship to myself unless I felt like sharing them with someone, and that whole incident only cemented my resolve.
Speaking of which, whoever had Valentine’s Day in the pool owes us $5, because we’re still together.
Well, since Drain broke the ice on being the first couple to post, I’ll step in with my comments… For those who DON’T know, MaxTorque and I are together.
Hmmm…well, Max and I met through the chatroom, really. He was sweet, funny, and fun to talk to. And he didn’t mind when I beat him in Satan’s Evil Band Game. ™ And he seemed like a really cool guy. (And he is.)

Like DB, it wasn’t really a “date.” And aside from the airplane saga from hell, it was very natural. Well, aside from being nervous as hell the week before.
A few people found out before we met, mainly so I could lean on their shoulder, and in DB’s case, so that we could trade stories! grin (“FUCK!” “Stop looking at the clock!!!”) As for everyone else…when I was in Texas, we went into the chat room together, which kinda tipped everyone there off. After that, the SD rumor mill spread the news.
