First off, we have the long awaited installment in the Dark Tower series, by Stephen King, Wolves of the Calla.
Then, we have a methadone book by Diana Gabaldon about Lord John Grey, alas, not about Jamie and Claire specifically, but focusing more on this minor but rich character.
Every time I see that title, I wonder if it’s a reference to Laurie King or further back to her reference, John Knox. I’m assuming Knox, but King’s book is so recent it doesn’t seem like coincidence.
According to Amazon, Lord John and the Private Matter is being released on September 30, not in November. YAY! I don’t think I could wait much longer for another of Diana Gabaldon’s books.
I won’t be happy until the next George RR Martin book comes out. And don’t give me any crap about Amazon’s release date - they’ve been making up release dates for at least a year now. The man himself says it’s not done yet, so I’m not happy.
This is the one I’m really waiting for, especially as I just finished my re-reading of the first four volumes. Damn, that’s some good stuff! Maybe I’ll re-read some of the other related books (Hearts in Atlantis, Black House, “The Little Sisters of Eleuria”, etc.) while I’m waiting…
The newest Lois McMaster Bujold book, “Paladin of Souls” is due out September 23rd. Alas, not a Miles Vorkosigan book, but the sequel to “The Curse of Chalion”. Still, Chalion was a good story, and I’m anxious for the book to come ut.
I also believe a new Heinlein novel will be published. Thought lost years ago, the manuscript was found in the garage of an old agent or something. Apparently it was too ‘racy’ for the 1930’s, couldn’t be published, and then everyone thought the manuscript was lost. So that’s pretty cool.
It won’t be out until January, but Pat Barker (who wrote the Regeneration Trilogy) has a new one coming too. It’s called “Double Vision” and I can’t wait!
Well, that’s a little cool - but if they’re going to find lost manuscripts by deceased authors, forget Heinlein, I want them to find some Zelazny manuscripts!
October’s definetely my book-buying month: I have pre-orders going for “Monstrous regiment” (Terry Pratchett), “Fool’s fate” (Robin Hobb) and “Blow Fly” (Patricia Cornwell). And if you have any idea how expensive English hardcovers are in Germany, you will weep with me.
Avalonian - you’ll have a lot of books to read before Wolves comes out…
Almost everyone of King’s books and short stories are set in the Dark Tower universe or include elements of the stories… including Insomnia, the Stand and the never mentioned Eyes of the Dragon.
