Does living on the other side of the world count? Also I had to work and didn’t have several thousand dollars to spare for airfares. When is there going to be a Dopefest in Aust?

Well, I’m up in the Great White North, Canada, eh? So the drive’s a problem. Also, I’m starting my next semester of university in a couple of days. Bad timing.

I wanted to go, I really did. Okay, I admit it. The main reason was the university thing. Also, I have to save up some for university. It wouldn’t have gelled well with the folks if I had blown my student loan on the craps table. 
I know, still no excuse. I feel so ashamed.

We live in Canada, the kids have started school, Lola starts school tomorrow, I have a job, and we still don’t have any money.
Excuses enough?
Maybe next year, I would love to meet some more Dopers…
From what I have seen so far, the combined total of Dopers from Oz could almost fit in a phone booth - there ain’t that many of us.
Even more disturbing: of those that I do know about, I am personally acquainted with almost half of them.
Perhaps we could hold a Port Lincoln Dopefest?
I went to Wisconsin instead. Saw my grandmother, several cousins, a half-dozen kittens (might get one); my sister was pursued by an amorous pooch and attended an all-you-can-eat-for-free cornfest.
I was interested and on the mailing list for said trip, but none of the people I knew fairly well (my “support group”–mostly the people in my sig) ended up going. I’m a bit uneasy if I don’t know at least a few people going in.
That, and the fourteen trades in my seven fantasy baseball leagues I negotiated and completed this weekend. I now am hopelessly behind in my e-mail correspondence with some people here, and I have to pay my long distance phone bill by taking out a mortgage on my car. I think it would have been cheaper to gamble in Vegas…
Anyway, I do hope that those of you who went had a nice time!
