I go through these musical phases. I’ll like one sound for a while and listen to it exclusively. Last month it was Steve Miller. Over and Over again. Butt now I’m going fo the garage rocky sound of these guys. Okay, I’ll just put 'em out here in random order:
The Breeders - “Huffer” Man, that songs just keeps going through my head, night and day. I’m stuck humming it over and over, can’t get rid of it. And it sure isn’t lyrically complex, just a whole lot of “dah dee dah dahdah deedah”
The Breeders - “Sinister Foxx” Okay, has anyone seen the Iguana? I really want to know. This song is cool.
The Pixies - “Digging for Fire” and “Bone Machine” Geez, both of these songs are really catchy, and anytime “Huffer” isn’t stuck in my head, mostly likely I’ll be expostulating “Your bone’s got a little machiiiine” for no reason.
Okay, I knew it’d be tough picking the last one, but it’s surely a White Stripes tune. Is it “Seven Nation Army”? Surely a lot of other people think it’s their best, but I might have to go with “Girl You Have No Faith in Medicine”, cuz dammit, that one’s catchy. How 'bout “We’re Going to be Friends”, that one’s cool in a ‘remembering my youth’ vein. Or “Hotel Yorba”, catchy one again. But maybe it’s Sleater-Kinney’s “One Beat” or “Ironclad”.
Am I really old or something? I’ve never heard of half these songs. Here are some of my favorites, but not necessarily the top five:
Muddy Waters - Mustang Sally
Rankin Family - You Feel the Same Way too
Uncle Kracker - Follow Me
John Mellencamp - Dance Naked
Kansas - Carry On My Wayward Son
Captain Beefheart, Sugar N Spikes
Explosions in the Sky, Have you passed through this night?
Meat Puppets, Lake of Fire
Meat Puppets, Plateau
Frank Zappa, Willie the Pimp
Comfortably Numb, “Psychotic Reaction” is by The Count Five.
Mine, in no particular order:
Wilco - “Reservations” Kills me every single time.
Wilco - “Jesus, Etc.” Didn’t want to put two songs from the same album, but the new DVD has got it back in my CD player.
Radiohead - “Sail To the Moon” I downloaded two songs, and now am waiting impatiently for the album.Idlewild - “American English” If they don’t become huge over here, then there is no God.
Ben Folds - “One Down” If only I could write throwaway songs like this. Beautiful and hilarious at the same time.
Superstar-from “Jesus Christ, Superstar” (damn catchy song) Here, There, and Everywhere-The Beatles (I miss my SO) Wake Up-Rage Against the Machine Clarinet Concerto-Mvt 3-Mozart (again, catchy) Serenade-Schubert (this is what happens when I get time to play my clarinet again)
