I know, I know, most of the denizens of the Straight Dope hate Kim Kardashian and could never deign to even notice that she is pregnant. I am one of the few on here who occasionally follow lurid celebrity gossip, and I hope to get some insight from the others on here like me.
Anyways, disclaimer aside, I am really, really surprised at how poorly Kim Kardashian is dressing during her pregnancy.
Now granted if you do a “Kim Kardashian pregnant” google search then you see that not everything she is wearing is awful. But it seems like a decently high percentage is, especially as her pregnancy progresses further.
This surprises me, as she is someone who I always thought dressed her figure fairly flatteringly. This turn in her wardrobe just surprises me, as she is a fashionista and we live in a time where many celebrities (and some regular people) make it a point to dress really well while pregnant.
For example, Here are some examples of Kate Middleton’s maternity wear. Granted she is the polar opposite of Kardashian when it comes to fashion, and she has a baseline figure that is probably easier to dress well, but still . . . she still maintains her basic elegant style.
And maybe it’s just that, trying to keep her normal style, that is causing Kardashian to make so many clothing mistakes. I really like the outfit in the top left corner on her and when not pregnant, she could pull those types of outfits off. Now that she proportioned differently, it doesn’t work as well but maybe she doesn’t want to change her style?
I suppose its possible that she’s trying to highlight her baby bump, instead of camouflaging it, because … Oh, I don’t know … Kim Kardashian does that in general, amirite?
Looking at those pictures, all I can say is OUCH those heels look uncomfortable. With swollen feet and a wonky center of gravity, I don’t know how she’s even doing it.
I read the same thing in US magazine. The one with Kim on the cover complaining about people calling her fat. I dunno, does Kanye force her to wear 8 inch heels too?
Kim has honestly never struck me as the type to let a SO dictate her fashion. That being said . . . there is a big gulf between huge smock-like t-shirts and stretch pants and tiny leather dresses that she literally tugs at when cameras are around to ensure she doesn’t show anything that would have to be blurred out in a magazine.
Seriously? You are saying the lady that wears see-through skirts without underwear and bikinis that can’t cover her butt crack dresses herself in a flattering way? I guess you could call it that.
Her pregnant attire strikes me as exactly like the rest of her attire. Screaming for attention, trying too hard.
Wait, the most recent cover of a tabloid I read said that Kanye left her and her man-trap pregnancy hadn’t worked. That’s been resolved? It was like last week.
I had not heard any such thing about Kanye and Kim and I get US Magazine in the mail (I didn’t order it! Don’t look at me that way!). I am, however, all excited about Kris Humphries having Kanye West’s baby.
I don’t think it was US. I almost bought it but resisted. Maybe it was OK magazine? I mostly just buy the ones where you’ll never believe who looks terrible in a bikini.
I have a “friend” who did what Kim is doing. Flat out refused to buy maternity clothes and just shoved herself into regular clothes. It was not flattering. Modern maternity wear is no longer tents and stretch pants (although if you want tents and stretch pants, those are available). There are plenty of flattering, fashionable clothes. BCBG, Nicole Miller and Heidi Klum all have maternity lines. It seems that the clothes are cut closer to the body than they used to be to show off the bump.
She also wore high (3+ in) heels as long as she could stand it. By the 8th month, her feet had swollen and she was only comfortable in flats.
Kardashian’s only apparent job is to draw attention to herself, and she seems to be fairly good at it. It would also appear that she has no plans on taking any sort of maternity leave from this job.
