I would laugh so hard!
“They’ll be delivered in two weeks.”
Just occurred to me. If it wasn’t for the American political documents, then Oklahoma could get all the King James Bibles it wants from the Gideons. Yes, the same folks who put Bibles in hotel rooms and other places.
They have King James and a few other versions. And best of all, they’re free. Oh, the Gideons would be happy to take a donation, but if you have nothing to give, or simply choose not to give, they’re happy to give you a Bible anyway.
If it wasn’t for those American political documents that Oklahoma demands and that only Trump Bibles have, then Oklahoma could save itself a lot of money if it is demanding Bibles in classrooms. Just ask the Gideons to give Bibles for free.
(Yes, I’m aware that this is a way for Oklahoma to curry favour with the CFSG, and for the CFSG to make money off selling something.)
Re: teachers leaving for other states because of this crap-how many can afford to do so? Especially while no doubt paying off school loans?
I would think this “requirement” could be satisfied by a supplementary brochure taped to the inside back cover of the book. No need for it to be included as part of the original binding.
Except – according to The Friendly Atheist YouTube channel – the real reason for requiring the Dump Bible is that this moron school superintendent is angling to become Secretary of Education after the election… assuming his orange hero wins, of course. If that happens, Vishnu help us all!
I’ll go out on a limb and predict that the Trump Bible will also contain the rough outlines for the oft-touted Trump health care plan.
Expect it to look like a single-prayer plan.
Already does. …or, come to think of it, that might just be a blank page.
All right, mister! I’m keeping an eye on you. ![]()
Right; it was never about Christianity. It was always about the Cult of Trump.
Only if you deny Trump’s divinity.
Exactly. Otherwise the assignment would be a comparison between the impact of the Bible and the Qur’an.
It’s more than a little bizarre how so many evangelical Christians are willing not only to support Trump.
Personally, I think that objective study of the Bible as a piece of literature might have value. It’s a really, really complicated work and has had a significant impact on Western civilization. Unfortunately, I think that few, if any, public school teachers in Oklahoma would be capable of being objective and most probably wouldn’t really know much about the Bible other than what they learned in Sunday school or what they have seen on TV.
Most lessons would probably be something like this:
TEACHER: Johnny, read [insert random Bible verse here].
JOHNNY: [Reads random Bible verse.]
TEACHER: How does that make you feel Johnny, now that you know our savior Jesus loves you?
Did you hit reply too soon?
Perhaps. Isn’t it obvious why they might not want to support a walking, talking example of the seven deadly sins?
Sure they can.
Never underestimate how thoroughly alleged Christians will twist, edit, and use the Bible for their own ends. See Slave Bible
Oh, undoubtedly. The Books of Micah, Joel, Hosea, Amos, Malachi … well, they’re kinda there. Or maybe not. We’re still not sure about Isaiah, unless it has something to do with the Gospel of Matthew, which we’re pretty sure it does at some point.
Good point though.
They’ll never teach Leviticus 19: 33-34, that’s for sure!
Another reason (as if I needed one) to never visit nor spend a dollar of my money in Oklahoma. ::cue music:: Oklahoma! Oy vey!
What’s that supposed quote from Gandhi?
“I like your Christ, but not your Christians. Your Christians are so unlike your Christ.”
