No problem: they simply equate the Orange Peril with Cyrus the Great as an outsider who was anointed by God to carry out His plans. Just as Cyrus was destined to deliver the Jews from the Babylonian Captivity, Trump is destined to deliver (good) Christians from the Scourge of Wokeness.
If that’s so, then I’m voting the straight Tomyris ticket
Major accolade to you for citing Tomyris!
In my studies on Central Asia, modern Central Asian people strongly identify with her.
The difference of course is that according to Jewish history, Cyrus was a moral and honorable man who just happened to not be Jewish. Trump on the other hand is a vile Narcissistic sociopath who claims to be Christian.
“Claims.” That word is doing a lot of heavy lifting, isn’t it?
Do you really think that enters into the MAGAss thought* process?
* Yes, I know, assertion without evidence.
Of course not. The average MAGA had never heard of Cyrus before Trump entered the scene, and still have no idea who was. All they know is that his existence in the bible means that they have something that they can point to when anyone tries to point out that Trump is the exact opposite of everything they claim to believe in. So now that that’s solved they don’t have to think about it anymore.
The MAGAs have many such “fig leaves” to cover up cognitive dissonance, they don’t have to bear uo to the tiniest whiff of scrutiny they just have to be good enough for the MAGAs, who desperately want to believe them, to fool themselves.
Moreover, what if a teacher called it a work of [gasp] fiction.
And for those of you that want to turn this into a (yet another) anti-Trump thread, the Religious Right has been pulling this Christianity in Schools since I remember in the 80s
And more importantly the Jews didn’t pick Cyrus. The Republicans deliberately embraced Trump.
They had been, but they’ve now given up on that, and are instead trying to pull Cult of Trump in Schools.
Damn right this is a “Trump Thing”! Why do you think it is that the the weirdly specific qualifications they demanding almost guaranteed until very recently that it would be the Trump Bible they bought?
They’ve amended the requirements so that the historic documents can be provided separately.
He’s a Nationalistic Sociopathic Christian. Or NASC (take a wild guess how that’s pronounced).
This has been going on since at least the 60s that I can personally remember. I went to public school in Arkansas. Every morning after the Pledge of Allegiance and the daily prayer one student got to read a Bible verse to the class. I always chose something from the Book of Revelation, just to be difficult I guess. The teacher would take delight in asking me to explain what I just read but in my tiny brain it was just a bunch of gibberish. But I would try to come up with something anyway.
One day there must have been some kind of court ruling about prayer in public school. The principal’s reaction was to call all of the students of the entire school out to the flagpole and bow our heads for a really long prayer to Jesus.
By the way, in the 60s it was the Democrats doing all of this, at least in Arkansas. We didn’t really have Republicans in Arkansas back then.
Why am I thinking Dixiecrat here?
By the 1960s the Dixiecrats weren’t really a thing anymore.
It was more of a “Solid South” movement, and it wasn’t until the mid to late 60’s that some of them changed their status from Democrat (mostly in name only) to Republican.
Only after God sent him down that escalator. He works in mysterious ways, although I’m surprised that when He had him heading down He didn’t just use the momentum and send him all the way to his final reward.
For the most part, this didn’t happen in Arkansas until the mid to late 70s. There were some Republicans elected in the 60s, e.g., representative Hammerschmidt and governor Rockefeller, but they were always Republicans.
“… no true Scotsman …”?
