(Old) 24 Hours of Labor- A Labor Day MMP

Good evening and time for the late-night final.

Coppertone, great news, hope it meets all your expectations.

Kaboom,

Nuke them from orbit; it’s the only way to be sure (different nuke than doggio’s)… And I’m also a big fan of Stouffers meals, Mac-n-Cheese especially.

Oopsie, hope you got your estimate or your pound of flesh… And those Lego items are charming.

FCM, give’em hell on that packing job!

doggio. all that was missing from today was a zombie apocalypse…

A peck of them?

swampy, enjoy the conference/training.

Pilot, sounds like a good way to spend an early afternoon.

VanGo, lovely picture of your canine companion, love those asymmetrical ears.

Flyboy, to borrow from one of my favorite musicians, some people ain’t no damn good, sorry you had to run into one.

JtC, hope the storms aren’t to stressful.

And that’s all from here. Will be up bright and early tomorrow for what I hope will be a full day of soccer (coach 8am and 10am and referee 12:45pm). Y’all take care.

It’s attached.

Yay!

Keep: All verses of “Barnacle Bill the Sailor.”
Lose: How to set my phone for international travel.

Sounds about right.

Not a peter or a pecker to be seen around this place.

A couple of hours on chapter 12. Close to halfway through it. A little more dialogue, then on to the exciting Chapter 12 Part 2 (of 3)! There are witches!

I’m rough and tough, and I know my stuff!

< chortle! >

shoe, :people_hugging:. I know your death anniversary pain. Got another one coming up myself next month. Even after so many years, I leave the day open for, umm, reflection. Yeah, let’s say that. Sounds like you handled yours with grace. I hope your fraud charges woes are soon resolved and that your appetite returns for something more than beige food. More :people_hugging:!!

Congrats on the new employment, coppertone!

{{{shoe}}}

My best beloved’s birthday is this month. He died of AIDS many years ago. Parts get easier, and parts don’t. I’m sorry.

I’m sitting here listening to the Nazi rally tent revival puppet show in the park behind my little forest. It was a notch quieter but still loud. A few minutes ago, a very strong aroma of weed wafted through the window. I immediately thought, “Shoe should be here for the contact high!”

I’m feeling less stressed about the floor, not because it’s going faster or better, but because I postponed the visit by a friend tomorrow, so I’m not feeling as stressed. I may be working on this until Niagara falls, but c’est la vie, c’est la guerre.

Not for a film that formed over the artificial lens? I had that and thought it was pretty common. Zip, zap, done, though. Doesn’t get easier than that.

swampy, hope you sleep well. (Hopefully you’re sleeping as I type this.) I kind of like old roadside chic in a hotel.

Van Gogh, that’s one of the funniest dog photos I’ve seen in a while. Peach definitely looks like she’s pondering how to off someone without getting sent to the joint.

What a jerk. You can’t talk like that to our flyboy, lady! Some people are just perpetually unhingde. I once had a guy follow me into the library to yell at me for having gone 25 mph en route. The speed limit was…25 mph. The fact he followed me, parked, went in, yelled, and left again was perplexing.
Moooom, forgot to say I loved the baby photo and got a chuckle out of that “First Mate” on her outfit. Very apropos!

Sometimes a man needs a badge of courage, injured or not. I used to keep bandaids in my desk drawer: Spidey, Micky Mouse, Hello Kitty, and Sesame Street. Now and then a kid would ask for one, pointing to an imaginary owie. And these were juniors.

Congrats on the job, Coppertone. I hope this one works out for you.

This cracked me up. Too clever!

I’m exhausted. Heading to bed.

Attended the wake yesterday. Traditionally, it’s very formal ceremony, as the funerals. Everybody wears formal morning clothes, so for men that would be black seats, white shirt and a black tie. Women will wear black dresses and pearls are acceptable for necklaces.

The family of the deceased is kneeling Japanese style by the casket. People come up and there is a solemn ritual with a set number of bows to the deceased, then family on the right side of the casket, then the left, you put your hands together, then add some loose incense to a small mound of burning incense, and then repeat the set number of bows.

Fortunately, the family decided to just have a gathering instead. About 100 people came, including his family from Tokyo.

They had a short program. First, a 10th grader sang. I taught her for two years and while she had no interest in learning English, damn! She’s a fantastic singer. The room could have held enough tables for another 40 people if it were just for eating, so you can picture the size of it, including the high ceiling. The girl didn’t use the mic and filled the room with her voice. She’s just a tiny person with a magnificent, well trained talent.

Three members of the school’s string’s club did a number. SenBoy was a member and he has really improved over the last couple of years.

Several other people talked about the deceased and we had dinner. They had a slide show about his life which was really cool.

The greatest downside to having worked in professional audio is the inability to “unhear” less than ideal sound systems. The downside to being married to someone who worked in professional audio is putting up with the running commentary, but SenWife is a good sport.

We helped clean up and then a few of us stayed and had a drink with the wife. Well, I had nonalcoholic beer as I don’t do the drinking thing anymore.

They had the funeral today but we had commitments that couldn’t be canceled.

Survived Long Night. There’s some kind of bug running through the crew (S.M. has called out for 3 days straight, which is practically unheard of) so I really hope I don’t catch whatever is going around. I just started eating again, dammit!

Having a restorative cuppa of hot Earl Grey, then - hopefully - Mr. Sandman time.

ETA: … and a multivitamin! Helll, maybe I should take two.

Monkey’s kibble bowl was tragically empty when I got home, but that has been fully remedied AND he got some gooshy-fud, so don’t listen to his whining.

Up, caffeinated, and sheveled. Off to heave. It’s my Firday, and College Handegg Day!

Judging by the shamblers at work, it may already be on.

[Picard]Make it so.[/Picard]

Morning, mumpers! It’s currently 14c/56f with a predicted high of 21c.70f and cloudy. Weather app says “It’s fucking grey outside. Kinda like my fucking sad, sad life.” Oh dear, weather app is feeling sorry for itself today.

As far as we know, she came from a single-cat household and has never been around other cats, so that’s an extra stress for her to deal with.

I have never had potato salad with raisins in it, I think I’d just pick them out and leave them ‘cos I don’t like the idea. The one that really icks me out, is sultanas in curry.

Oooh….that is quite The Look!

I’m sorry you had to deal with a car park idiot - people are impatient at best when it comes to parking. I’ve had notes left on my windscreen because some twunt decided I’d parked too close to their car despite the fact my car was well within the white lines indicating a parking space. Not my fault other people can’t park properly, and since I was parked before they arrived, doubly not my problem.

Sounds like he had a good gathering and plenty of people to honour his memory. I’m glad you were able to attend, even if you couldn’t make it to the funeral. I also hope the wake has brought you some peace.

Yesterday ended well, got some stuff done and arranged a meeting with the boss on Monday to talk about the minion stuff as I’ve had a couple of ideas about how we could resolve some stuff for her. Got home at my usual time, tended to critters, did a load of laundry, and made spagbol for dinner. We watched a film, and I headed to bed. ‘im indoors stayed up and probably watched something else that I wouldn’t have been interested in.

I’m up at my usual Saturday time, cats are fed and watered. Muffin has had food and I’ve seen her drink some water so that’s good. She brought up a bit of foamy stuff in the night, and has done a couple of poops that were somewhere between loose and solid. I will message Di at Little Paws today and see if there’s anything we can do for her that doesn’t need a vet as I am still thinking it’s furball related because Blossom also has loose poo, and they are both fluffy ladies.

Today’s plans involve the gym for me, then home for a shower and tidy-up. I need to go to the pet store for cat litter and food for Muffin so I have suggested to ‘im indoors that I drive us to the retail park were the pet store is and we can go across the road for lunch at Jack’s Café. Then we can walk into town to do errands, get pet supplies, and drop things off at home.

Today is quite likely to be the last weekend to really enjoy pub beer gardens before autumn, so we will be doing some day drinking. I suggested we do our errands that require the car, then park up at home and get an Uber back into town. That means we can do our usual pub-based route home, stop at Turkish Delight for pizza and a kebab. He has the kebab, I have half the pizza and we share the rest of the pizza for lunch on Sunday. Thus the weekend plan has been decided.

I’ve had a banana and two cups of tea, now it’s time to get off to the gym!

Morning all. Soccer starts at 8am so I need to get ready about 7 so this will be fairly short. Rain is expected about 10am so either my second game will get cancelled or we’ll all get soaked…we’ll see. Referee at 12:45pm and that will depend on the weather too. At least it is going to be cooler, 68F now and only getting to 75F for the day.

Took me a moment but that is a nicely creative word, reminds me of the DC comic book character Lobo who uses the term “bastich”.

And that’s all I got…will try to add more decorous conversations later today.

It’s a good thing they’re cute, because I’d have gladly sold the grands to a passing circus last night - especially Tobias. He was lonely. He missed his parents. He wanted to sleep with me. He wanted a hug. Eeeeesh, anything to delay bedtime. Then they were both up just after 7. Meanwhile, I was awake from 3-4 after not falling asleep till after 11. I’m dragging and they’re watching the fish on TV. Samsung’s default when you turn on the TV is undersea videos.

We’re promised 91° midday today, then a front comes thru and we return to highs in the 70s. I plan to take the kids to the playground after lunch, meaning we’ll get the worst of it. ugh. Maybe we’ll go to the one by the river - at least it’ll be a bit cooler. We shall see.

nellie - my daughter said she doesn’t recall ever seeing that pic. I guess because we never had the traditional photo album to page thru. I scanned that one and several others of her early days. I’m going to share those with her spawn.

Ziva horked up overnight - but she had the good graces to do it on the tile and not on the newly cleaned carpets.

Beyond that there are no plans, other than an early bedtime for me tonight.

Meanwhile, onward! Happy Saturday!

Good morning.

It’s 61°F, dark and cloudy outside, and sunrise is still nearly an hour away. We’ll only reach a high of around 73°F, with overcast skies, with the possibility of a stray rain shower or thunderstorm or two.

I hope this job works out, Coppertone.

That sounds like a nice, albeit sad gathering, Sensai.

I had to chuckle at that picture, VanGo.

Last weekend, my husband and I tentatively made plans to go to the Farmer’s Market today. I’m not sure he’ll still want to go, as I prefer to arrive before the opening. Parking and crowds for the market are bad enough on their own; toss in the state fair just a couple blocks away, and it’s worse. So, I’ll check with him around 8:00 to see if he still wants to go.

After had my sanctioned morning goof off time, I replaced the fan/filter for the microwave, which involves taking unscrewing a section of the microwave. Boy, it just gets gross in there and it had been a minute since I replaced the fan. At any rate, I cleaned everything up, inserted the fan, and put it all back together.

By the time I was done with that, it was time to hop in the shower and get ready to leave for my hair appointment. I need to get online and order more filters/fans for the microwave, so I’ll do that today.

Yesterday, our new combo router/modem arrived. Although it took a bit longer than expected for my ISP to recognize the device, we finally got it set up. It was stupidly expensive, so hopefully I don’t have any electronics expenses for a while.

After my hair was done, and since I was out and about, I stopped to purchase a Powerball ticket. I had vague intentions of doing some other running around, but I knew my husband was eager to get the modem/router set up, so I came home. His birthday presents from my daughter had also arrived. His birthday isn’t for another two weeks, but it’s nice that they arrived in time for the birthday.

After I got the electronics sorted, I watched the first episode of the new season of Great British Bake Off, and then I putzed around the house here and there before settling down to watch a movie.

I didn’t accomplish much else, so the day was rather mundane, like most of them.

Alrighty, it’s time for another cup of coffee. Please take care of yourselves.

And the weather arrived earlier than expected with lots of thunder so they closed the fields and cancelled the games. Only one thing left for me to do: come home and have a 2nd breakfast (pancakes and bacon). We’ll see if the afternoon games get cancelled to and then maybe take myself to the gym. Meanwhile, i have a whole Saturday morning to myself for once.

When we last saw Misnomer, she’d set a deadline of around 1pm to hear from the landscaping estimator before she would contact the company…so, of course, the guy texted at 12:55pm. Turns out he’d put the wrong date in his calendar: he apologized profusely, and was able to come by at 1:30. A few hours later I approved the proposal/estimate and provided the 50% down payment, and the work will be scheduled for sometime this month. It won’t be cheap, but it includes getting rid of a large bush/small tree (including stump removal) that’s been in the side yard for quite some time and I’ve been meaning to have removed. I’ll be glad when that — plus the cleanup of everything at the front of the house — is done. I’ll have them back in November for one last pre-winter trim of everything, and to cut back the crepe myrtle and peony bush.

Earlier this week, my car started nagging me about getting the oil changed: yesterday afternoon I was able to make an appointment with the shop for this morning, and I handed over the key at around 8:55. I’m currently hanging out in the waiting room, with iPad and Kindle. I’m having them replace the windshield wipers and inspect the brakes and stuff while I’m here, and I’ll wait at least until they tell me if they recommend any service (I trust this place). I’m good with being here for a few hours, but if they say the car needs work that will take all day I’ll have them give me a ride home/pick me up later.

This place is across the street from the animal hospital: whenever I leave here, I plan to stop by there and see about making an appointment with/getting a call from the vet about letting Bailey go. Now that I’ve decided it’s time*, I don’t know what the next step would be…and I don’t know whether they’ll do it themselves, or if I should contact Lap of Love (an in-home service). But here’s a funny coincidence: last night I looked up the local Lap of Love’s website to learn about their services and fees, and they have a “meet our doctors” page. And one of them is one of Bailey’s old vets! She’s the one who diagnosed the Addison’s disease in 2016. She was Bailey’s doc for a long time: I loved her, but she left the practice we used to go to a long time ago. I’m not really one to believe in signs, but that kind of felt like a sign. :two_hearts: I’ll be fine with taking Bailey to the vet one more time if our current doc will do it, but plan B will be to call Lap of Love and see if I can request our old vet.

*My head has decided; my heart will argue with my head forever.

After posting this I’ll do a little more putzing around on the Dope/my iPad, then switch to my Kindle. My car only has ~24,000 miles on it, so I’m hoping it won’t need any truly significant work. :crossed_fingers: I’m half expecting to need to replace the brakes, though. We’ll see.

After my BFFs, my next closest friends are also a married couple: the husband is a fellow jazz singer (which is how we met), and the wife always says that it’s interesting to go to jazz shows with us because we make comments to each other the whole time about everything from the audio setup to the musicianship to the band’s interaction to the set list. She is also a good sport.

Yawn. I’ve looked at my email and played the Spelling Bee. Now I’ll see if I can sleep another hour. I don’t have to be anywhere until a writers group meeting later today, so when I get up, I’ll write, punctuated by house tasks like folding all the laundry I washed yesterday.

Have a wonderful Saturday, all!

Here’s the place, on the left. The only open spot was next to the power pole, and the women with the dog were in the next space. Note that the map is looking north, and I was coming from the north, so I was making a right turn to park. i.e., you would be looking at the front of my car if I were there and you were the one taking the picture. I was pulled slightly to the right and I was angled in a bit because I was turning to park; but I couldn’t get in with the SUV’s door open and the woman fuzzing with the dog.

Now a normal person would just go around. It isn’t the 4th of July or New Year’s Eve, so there’ no traffic. This woman apparently couldn’t figure that out. She didn’t even honk at me. No, she waited until I’d parked, pulled over to the side of the road, got out, came over, accosted the women with the dog (who were still out of their SUV, though the door was now closed), and then accosted me as I exited the vehicle. She must’ve been in some hurry to take the time to do all that. You know, instead of just going around.

The speed limit along the beach is 25 mph. I was doing 30 before a stop sign, and the guy behind me was closer than he needed to be. I kept it down to 25-27 from the stop sign to the restaurant, and a different guy was tailgating.

:people_hugging:

You’re a wonderful dog-Mom even if it doesn’t feel that way right now.

{{HUGS}} to you both.

Wait a minute, isn’t that the landlord’s responsibility?

:people_hugging: You love her enough to make this difficult decision.

Up, caffeinating, breakfasted and fixing to do KP. Doing another day of RDOS today.

Stay safe and healthy y’all!
