very simple four ingredient bread
Howdy Y’all! I have been back in da cave for about a hour and a half. Had to unwind after the drive back, plus OYKW umm..welcomed me home. The conference was fantastic! It was smallish as registration was open to fifty people only and registrants had to be folk who serve in a lay capacity, specifically those who serve as Eucharistic lay ministers and/or vergers. Lots of info and best practices was shared by Diocesan staff and attendees. We concluded with what is bein’ called a “Communion by Extension” service wherein lay ministers would be able to offer Communion to the congregation usin’ bread and wine that was consecrated by a Priest or Bishop, but most likely a Priest durin’ a Holy Eucharist service. This is an experimental liturgy that is not yet available as it is still bein’ tweaked. It would be for congregations who have been without a full or part-time Priest for some time so that Communion could be received at least on a once a month basis. There are things a local church must submit to the Bishop for approval before this can happen.
TL;DR version: The Episcopal Church is proposin’ to do sump’n different (pause while any Episcopalian who is readin’ this clasps pearls and falls upon the faintin’ sofa because I dared use the word different) and we learnt all about it this weekend.
Oh, I volunteered to be Presider for the service (that means leader) and Our Savior chapel at Honey Creek did not burn to the ground or collapse, so I count that as a win. I mean, I lead a not yet available to the public liturgy and survived!
Coppertone great news about the job!
VanGo the pic of Peach is beyond keeeyoote! She is definitely not amused!
{{{Oopsie}}} what a tough decision to make! I just don’t have the right words right now.
Hippie even though I have a full tummy from all the days’ eats, I would snarf down that fresh bread with butter until I fell on the floor writhin’ in pain while sayin’ “it was worth it!” That bread looks just that good!
I feel sleepy time comin’ on. Nitey nite y’all!
Oh yeah. Sometimes you gotta do what you gotta do. We had bees get under our house on the side of the mountain (don’t do that, beautiful view, soooo many problems). I’m epi-pen allergic to bee stings so we had to call someone out. I was sad, but it had to be done.
Hubs and I had a conversation about that today. He noticed all the kits showing up on the porch and said that he thought I was overreacting because the prices for my niche hobby will go down when the tariffs are gone unless the importers get greedy.
I smoke a whole bunch of weed.
Poor lil girl. I wouldn’t cut back on the playing as long as she doesn’t act hurt. She’s enjoying herself and getting exercise. I wonder if she has a hairball forming?
I haven’t made lumpia for a very long time, I always appreciate it when folks remind me to change up our menu, so thank you for that.
Nobody knows what’s happening here in WV. According to what I’ve learned, I will need a doc’s prescription as well, but nobody actually has the updated vax. My doctor is pro-science and has ordered the updated juice but doesn’t have it yet and isn’t sure when it will arrive.
I was on the interstate last time I was in VA, I’m already mapping out back roads to VA dispensaries and pharmacies.
Do you know how much time they spend maintaining it? I’ve always enjoyed them and sometimes think about getting one…but I’m so very lazy.
Enjoy the cool weather!
I use one on George daily or more often when he demands it or I just want to brush him. He’s had two hairballs in his life. Highly recommend.
It always amazes me that a three foot squash can hide like that.
While I do try to keep up, I can hardly ever reply as much as I would like.
I think your obit idea sounds great. You can mull over all of the fun times while trying to condense everything into readable form. It actually sounds like a way of pre-mourning, very smart.
Retirement is wonderful. I’m glad I started early.
Now you have to tell us why your starter is named Seymour. That has to be an interesting story.
I love sourdough, that looks amazing!
Hurray for zoomies. They only happen when a critter is healthy and happy.
Laminate floors don’t last very long even if they are gently used. Plus laminate is fairly cheap and simple to replace. You are going to be forced to move next year and I’m sure you will not get your security deposit back no matter how clean your place is. Unless YOU can’t stand it, stop messing with it.
I’m glad your sister is doing better. The brain doesn’t like to remember painful traumatic things, the accident has probably been buried under the capital of NJ.
I would expect nothing less!
We didn’t lose power last night and went to bed listening to the boomers and rain. I shut off the lights and we pretended the power was out anyhow!
TBH, the power is stable here. We get some flickers when it storms but that’s really all that happens. Last year, shortly after we moved here, there was a fire that burnt down a transformer and damaged lines. We had several days without power or internet, but everything has been stable since. Hubs just wants an excuse to run his genny because we didn’t have one in AZ.
It was dark and cloudy when I woke up this morning and I had no motivation at all. Sheets got changed and a bit of stitching happened, but mostly I just watched the rain. I still get distracted by magical sky water, its going to take me a while to get used to it.
We took the long way to the decent Mexican place, it was a lovely drive. The forest is changing colors now and I can see further into the forest. Its truly stunning.
After we got home, I got into my closet and bins and did some counting. At my current rate of stitching, I have about 12 years worth of good kits. When I run out of them, I’ve got some “why did I buy this” kits and some that mom insisted I would love (but was wrong) to do. I think I need to stop panic buying.
After the American Needlepoint Auction is over.
How do I embed the video?
I have yet to bake a successful loaf of sourdough but I keep trying. What does not show in that picture is the other jar labeled “Audrey” which is a different strain of wild yeast.
They are named after the lovers in “Little Shop of Horrors”
Here’s the official thread on how to do it. It is NOT difficult, but you gotta do all the steps the right way.
I love that!
Thanks
I copy and paste the video to flicker and then post it from there. Cause I’m all lazy and shit.
I wish it WERE laminate. It’s just “luxury” vinyl from a roll or sheet or whatever they use. The manager said something about maybe replacing the vinyl with laminate in the future, but only when tenants move out. Her reasoning is that, as you said, laminate is easy to replace.
I really can’t stand it. It looks terrible, as in, “Oh, sh*t, what happened to your floor?” terrible. However, I had an idea. I have some Old English dark “stain” that covers scratches. I tried that on a small area and it looks a lot better. The problem is that stuff doesn’t last very long. So now I’m thinking about getting real wood stain and using that, topped by something easy to remove, like Mop ‘n’ Glo. What the heck, the floor is ruined anyway, right?
swampy, glad OYKW gave you a rousing welcoming!
There’s a howlin’ beautiful moon tonight. The weather is cool, we got some rain the other morning, and there’s a lovely breeze.
There were cupcakes for S.M.’s birthday, since she finally came back - visibly, obviously, still weak, though. (How shitty, being that sick on your own burpday.) Anyway, they were strawberry with cream cheese frosting, each decorated with a cute little sunflower, and quite delishush.
ISWYDT.
From what I understand, salt tanks are a PITA … at the beginning during setup. When (if) you get the various chemistry stabilized, they’re not so daunting after that.
Having had freshwater tanks myself, I can tell you that their chemistry is simpler, setup is usually pretty easy, but the critters available obvs aren’t as cool.
That said, guppies are colorful, tetras (there’s lots of kinds) are hardy, and betta (Siamese fighting fish) usually get along surprisingly well with anything that doesn’t also have long, flowing fins.
Are cheap rugs an option? Leave ‘em behind when you move …
Since we’d gone out to dinner last night, I didn’t know what to do for dinner tonight. Sandwiches? I asked The Spousal Unit. She asked what I wanted to cook. *ping* OK, that means she wants me to make something. We looked in the deep freezer (that someone had put out free-for-the-taking last year) and found some inch-thick bone-in pork chops. So I defrosted them and made fake (Store-brand) Shake 'N’ Bake pork chops, with creamed spinach (frozen spinach, cream cheese, heavy cream, and diced feta). It was good. We have two dead-piggie pieces and some spinach left.
We watched Blazing Saddles while we ate. I love that film. The timer for the pork chops went off just at the ‘You know… Morons’ scene. But I caught part of it.
ETA: Bonus! We got to eat after six!
State won on an INT, so I took a brief nap. Now I’m up, having a Sazarac, Asian BBQ Stirfry, and watching F1 FP1 at The Temple Of Speed.
As a Wisconsinite living in N.C., Bless your heart
Outstanding!
I have trouble passing a bar.
< Laughs in Catholics still mad about Vatican II >
I identify with beta fish, because I am also beautiful and want to fight everyone
Evening all. Sat around the house until about noontime and then went out to referee soccer (it was at a different AYSO Region and they didn’t call it off). Well, they didn’t, but the other team never got the word and was a no-show, so I just turned around and spent 4 hours at the gym burning about 1,500 calories (with breaks for reading and internettin’) and then came home to some Lean Cuisine Fettuccine Alfredo and some chocolate pudding snackage, and been spending the rest of the time meandering about the internet. Will watch some tackleball here in a bit and then retire fairly early, since I was up before 6am. Day stayed cool and with the rain, it is 64F now, about 10-15F cooler than this time in the earlier part of the week.
And about 36 messages to scroll, so onward I go…
Oopsie, glad it all worked out with the contractor, hope the service is more on-time. And ((((hugs}}}} to you on the Bailey decision; it can’t have been easy and it will still hurt–a lot–when he’s gone, but you are doing what is best, be assured of that.
I am also a Lean Cuisine fettuccine fan, but i prefer the large size Stouffer’s mac-n-cheese. Most of the rest of the room in the icebox freezer is White Castles, Hot Pockets, and pancakes.
flyboy, people gonna dumb…but the food does look good.
Kaboom, hope the wasps are just a bad memory by now.
Pilot, good on ya for the shot regime, need to see if the updated COVID is available to me yet.
52, if i was closer I’d help with the dog-clinging, I get along fine while covered in mutts…
FCM, take the rest of the day off, keeping up with the kiddos for a half-day is more than enough energy expended.
Dicey, a much more serious soccer pracitce than mine, getting them to dribble in the same direction at the same time is considered a triumph by me…
Knots, have my lottery tickets but the drawing isn’t until 10pm local time, so probably will check them tomorrow.
Hippy, lovely looking loaves!
swampy, glad you got such an…enthusiastic…reception after returning home. Sounds like the conference went well, you can pass it on down the line starting tomorrow.
JtC, 12 years of kits ought to keep you busy for awhile…
shoe, glad S.M. could make it back for birthday, hope she gets feeling better soon.
And it’s past 9pm here so I guess this qualifies as a late-night final. Going to log off, get a Little Debbie’s apple pie and watch TV for a change. Catch y’all on Sunday.
A last night’s dinner of German food, the ~25yo barmaid was most egregiously pregnant. I offered my good wishes for her blessed event. She replied “3 weeks to go; the induced birth is scheduled on my birthday.” Talk about feeling like shit on your birthday! Some women report enjoying pregnancy; I don’t think I’ve ever heard anyone say birthing was fun.
But at least the spawn’s birthdate will be easy to remember.
Social commentary: I was there early for dinner and had the place to myself. So yakked w the barmaid. Who already has a 2yo, depends on her mother and Mom’s sister for child care. I heard all about her life. She’d been there almost all shift w nothing to do and was craving somebody to talk to. I know about her car, her prior jobs, roughly where she lives, etc., etc.
The only thing I know zero about is whether she’s ever met a man, much less had a BF or a, gasp, husband. Other than the evidence of two conceptions, you’d think she was utterly unfamiliar with the male of the species.
I don’t know whether that means she really has two babby-daddies she hopes never to see again, or whether she’s happily married but he’s just not a topic that’d come to her mind. Either way something is less than healthy IMO about that manner of thinking. I have met a bunch of women like that over the years. They’ll talk about anything other than the man / men in their life. Gushing over “my children”, not “our children”, etc.
Disturbing.
Mornin’ all - It’s 0600 Sunday as I start to drivel. The sky is just getting a hint of pre-dawn light, or rather slightly-less-than-dark. And true to recent form, there’s lightning out over the ocean. NWS sez it’s 80/27 on the way to 92/33. Puffies now giving way to rain showers later. I’m hoping the bulk of the day is less overcast than yesterday. We had rather little direct sunshine.
My health Saturday worked well and I’m human again. Which poses the dilemma that it’s clear I’d be healthier to have a health day every day. Maybe even clean up my diet and start exercising again. But until GF gets here, that’d also be real boring.
Speaking of which GF is off the boat in Athens. They spend ~24 hours there including one hotel night, then fly home via London getting to Miami on Tue evening. We’ll see what’s next when, but she says she misses me lots. Hope springs eternal.
Good Morning. Somehow I let over 100 posts go by… Here’s the few that stuck in my head:
VanGogh Diet forks are as JtC said, more of a rude gesture fork. Now that I cut way back on spoon ring production, they are by far my best seller.
Coppertone, congratulations on the job!
MetalMouse, I put in the location descriptors for you.
Oopsie, my love and my heart go to you and Bailey. As I did the same with my dear sweet Bubba boy, it’s a thing that you know is right, but it is so, so hard to let them go. If there is any bright side, you’ll always have the memories. Around here there’s not barely a day that we don’t see his picture or think about him and mention his name. The love of a good pup does, indeed, last forever.
I’ve just been alternating between work and sloth. Today will be more work and then I’m going to make a large quantity of bourbon chicken for dinner. MusicMan has been having an issue at work and he called off on Saturday because of it. I hope that things can get resolved for him tomorrow. Oh, and our handyman came out and replaced our evil LOUD screen door and then he was supposed to paint the ramp. Unfortunately he had forgotten that one of his sons had a football game, so he will hopefully be back today or tomorrow. Poor guy, he’s a good dad and was very embarrassed.
Now I’m going to gently ease this little dog off of my lap and go get my work laptop to get started. Catch y’all later.
Up, caffeinated, and sheveled. Off today. Morning cleaning and then Pro Handegg in the afternoon are on the agenda for me. Spot will be watching the vermin in between naps.
Put some extra padding down around the bed and couch. Just in case.
< shows up at sticky’s place in chicken outfit >
Nope. We used to go to Wicks.
I bought a 4 pack of hamburger buns, intending to have hamburgers this weekend and next weekend. During today’s grilling, the grill ran out of fuel. Either we go get fuel next weekend (can’t today) or wait until next spring, because grilling season is just about done.
That’s for next weekend. This weekend’s got enough things to do, including using up the monster zucchini. Made two more small loaves with raisins, and I have a recipe for chocolate chip pecan zucchini cookes from my mom. For some reason I remember having them with raisins, but knowing my mom, I can’t imagine that she would have made them with raisins. I already toasted the pecans and walnuts.
But I really want to just relax and enjoy the beautiful weather. Maybe in a little while I’ll get back to baking and paperwork.
Speaking of paperwork, I renewed both of our Global Entry memberships, since we don’t have any US travel plans for the near future.
Morning, mumpers! It’s currently 19c/66f with a predicted high of 21c/69f and rain showers. Weather app says “Is Mother Nature acting batshit fucking crazy, or merely delightfully fucking unstable?” No idea, she has decided we need rain today, so that’s what we’re having.
I know just how that feels, we’ve been in the same position far too many times and it never gets any easier even though your head is quite convinced that you are making the best decision for Bailey. I kind of hope you can have the old vet come to the house to do it, Bailey will be in familiar surroundings with people she loves and trusts, a pet really couldn’t want for much more.
On a quiet day with no oncoming traffic, going around would have been an easy solution and taken seconds out of her day instead of making a production out of how the entire world had inconvenienced her. She’s clearly got nothing better to do with her time.
If it’s a foamy liquid, that’s often a sign that she’s got a furball stuck somewhere. A bit of butter might sort her out, or some hairball paste. I had a semi-longhaired cat who had that kind of problem, fortunately she absolutely loved the hairball paste!
I’ve been giving Blossom and Cherry normal food but Muffin will only eat one type of food so I can’t give her anything else but she seems ok with the coat/hairball biscuits. I will be picking up some more of those in Monday’s grocery shopping so that Blossom gets some too. She gets growled at if she tries to come into Muffin’s room so she’ll need a bowl of her own biscuits (which she’ll share with Cherry).
I wasn’t going to anything quite that extreme, but I’ll add it to my list!
hippie the bread looks delicious, I bet it smells divine.
Sounds like you had a very productive time there, and I am sure OYKW was very “welcoming” when you got back! It’s always good to be missed
I live where we get lots of rain, and the distraction never really goes away. I was having a meeting with my boss a couple of days ago, we stopped talking and spent a couple of minutes just watching a sudden downpour because, y’know, magical skywater. Rain stopped, discussion resumed.
And, as I type, it’s raining again. Yesterday was a good day here, I went to the gym in the morning then we went out for lunch at Jack’s Café which is always good, did our errands in town and got pet supplies on the way home. I drove us home, we unpacked stuff and had a cup of tea before tidying ourselves up and heading back into town.
‘im indoors had decided that yesterday was probably going to be the last Saturday of “proper summer” weather and therefore good for sitting outside in the pub beer gardens. So that’s what we did. We started off at the Posada which has a cute little courtyard garden at the back. We stayed out there until the competing music got to be too much - another place quite close by was having an over-30s daytime disco outside, the Irish bar directly behind the Posada usually has karaoke (or Paddyoke, as we call it), the Old Still Inn which is next door to McGhee’s had reggae blasting out, and the Billy Wright also had something playing.
After we had enough of the noise outside the Posada, we went over the road to the Lych Gate which was much quieter, then headed out of town towards home via the Clarendon Hotel, popped into Turkish Delight to order food and then had a last drink in the Combermere Arms before collecting food and heading home.
Today has been entertaining as it’s the local half-marathon which means lots of roads around the park near us are closed for some part of the day. The race starts and finishes in the park so there’s no exit from the top end of our street. I have been sitting here watching a string of very irritated motorists queueing for space to turn around and go back the way they came. Obviously the “road ahead closed” signs at the bottom of the road didn’t apply to them. Time for lunch now, leftover pizza from last night!
