(Old) 24 Hours of Labor- A Labor Day MMP

FCD set up a very large (over 100 gal) saltwater tank and all sorts of support equipment. The tank was in the living room and the plumbing ran thru the floor to the basement where there was a filter tank and a RO tank and other stuff I can’t recall. Even with 2 of us, the water changes took a couple of hours, and the assorted cleaning tasks never seemed to end. We wound up selling it all for cheap to a guy that we’re pretty sure had no idea how to deal with it all. The piano now sits where the fish were.

I catch myself saying “my daughter/grandkids” when I’m in a conversation sans FCD. Surely it could be confusing to say “our” when the other half of “us” isn’t there. Dunno…

A glorious 62° to start the day - what a relief after yesterday’s low 90s with matching humidity. As I sat here catching up on posts, I heard a strange sound - rain!! Huzzah!! I thought it was supposed to end last night but a check of accuweather shows showers for most of this morning. It’s exactly the kind of rain we need! I know we got some yesterday evening and maybe into the night. (Mel knocked me out, so I can’t say for certain.) Anyway, another Huzzah!!

We’re back to highs in the 70s again and long-range, we might see 80° again a couple of times before the month is out, but Sept may well finish with highs in the 60s. Unfortunately, very little rain is predicted. But we all know how reliable long-range guesses are when it comes to weather. Like the two winter forecasts I saw. One was for much snow, the other was for mild and very little precip. It’s all a crapshoot.

Today’s plan is to ready the boat for tank installation - maybe this afternoon. We don’t know for sure it’ll happen this week, but hope springs eternal. My day started with a bit of blood. Our medicine cabinet is hinged on the right so the open door is on the right and I’m right-handed. When I reached in to get my morning meds, my right forearm came up under the corner of the door and, boom - blood! Dammit. And naturally, the bandaids are in the hall closet, so I stuck a bit of TP on my owie to prevent drips.

FCD was in the hall bathroom getting his morning meds, so he patched me up. I expect a colorful bruise to bloom. Anyone who didn’t know me would think I was constantly being beat on the arms, but most of the boo-boos are from our recent work in the bilge. Gardening can add to it, but apart from planting the crape myrtle, I haven’t done much of that. Anyway, it takes me a bit of time to heal.

In summary, Mel gave me a good sleep, it’s raining, and I’m a klutz. Happy Sunday!!

Good Mornin‘Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN ‘Tis 72 Amurrkin out and cloudy with a predicted high of 88 and sunny. The big item on today’s agenda is deheathenization followed by first Sunday brunch. We will bring pulled poke, buns, and sauce for sammiches and a candy bar cake. I also have Verger duty as other Verger’s husband is not well so she texted and asked me to fill in for her. Originally I was not scheduled to serve today.

Now it’s time for more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then purtification for deheathenization must commence.

Happy Sunday Y’all!

53 degrees. A quick rainburst, now its fine.
Going to be 77 all week, thank God, because Housing isn’t going to turn the heat on for awhile. And lots of us are wearing winter jackets inside.
Off to church.

44 F here in western Mitten State, and the Oracles predict a creep into the low 60s. Fine by me!

I already have the thick comforter on the bed, and Monkey is currently by my ankles with the faintest nose whistle. I can just barely hear it when I hover over him for snuggles & scritches. So cute!

Every restaurant in Indiana that I ever worked in served Wick’s sugar cream pie.

It was even under 75F here in Houston when I got up around seven. :open_mouth:

Up, caffeinating, breakfasted and fixing to do KP. Sis and BIL will be here some time today to do the W/D set up. Yay! I’ll be able to do laundry at home now. Other than that, it will be FDOS and making out the weekly menu / grocery list.

Stay safe and healthy y’all!

Good morning.

It’s 61°F, damp and cloudy outside. The day will remain considerably cloudy, and our daytime high will only be around 71°F. It rained off and on yesterday morning, and thunder and lightning made quite the show. We even had overnight thunder and lightning. I’m sure the plants and grass loved the rain, and hopefully, it cleared the air some. Air quality is bad in the central and northeastern parts of the state, and things had been fairly smoky around my house, too.

Oopsie, sending you hugs. Even though my head knew I’d made the right decision, my heart struggled every single time. I love the obituary idea, and hope you share it with us. Gentle skritches for sweet Bailey.

As FCM has attested, saltwater fish tanks are a lot of work. I had multiple freshwater tanks, and we thought about saltwater, but the work for freshwater was enough of a pain. Also, saltwater fish, especially the really nice specimens, are expensive (or were at that time).

My new keyboard and mouse arrived yesterday. It’s so nice not to struggle with wonky keys.

I made brownies yesterday…twice. Turns out the oil I used in the first batch was off, so I had to toss the brownies. Since I was entirely out of oil, I substituted melted butter for the second batch, and they turned out nicely.

Other than watering the potted plants on the front porch, I won’t need to tend to the posies today, so that’s nice. I’ll probably knock out the laundry, and maybe run the rollsuck around. I’m feeling antsy, so ideally, I should address that by getting out of the house, but I can’t think of anyplace to go.

Okay, time for more coffee, and maybe a brownie to accompany it. Please take care of yourselves.

Morning all. It actually got into the low 60’s F last night, so sleeping was nice (except for the bathroom breaks at 1:30 and 5:00am…).. Have pilled and gotten my Sunday NY Times (and who drives a Mercedes Benz S550 to a Kroger parking lot at 8am?) so just internetting until it is time to put on my Sunday best (slacks and my ‘good’ shoes) and head a town over to the Golden Corral for dinner. Might exercise some more and might not, have done so for six days, might not defy Jehovah and rest on the seventh. We’ll see. Rain is gone but not supposed to reach 80F today, so looks like a nice one.

Awwwww…

Sticky Buns, don’t forget the work, but especially don’t forget the sloth!!

That don’t sound…natural…to me. Who came up with that combination?

*boo fae, sounds like a fond way to say goodbye to summer in Middle England.

FCM, ouch on the owie, know what you mean about time to heal, have a few marks of my own on the back of my hands that are sticking around.

Swampy, happy Vergering and Brunching.

And onward to do the Sunday Morning You Tubes (usually a couple travel guys, Noel Phillips and 74 Gear) and then off to Pot Roast and the other goodies at the Corral. Have a good Sunday all.

Repeated for truth!!! We bought one little guy - don’t remember the particulars except it cost $35, and it lasted maybe 5 minutes before a damned mantis shrimp ate it!!!

Still raining and cool. Yay! I’m hoping FCD changes his mind about going to the boat today. I just wanna practice intense RDOS.

Thanks for the advice. The vomit has been as you described. I put a knob of butter next to her food, which she eagerly lapped up, so we’ll see how that goes.

Morning, all! It’s cool, overcast, and breezy here, after having rained most of the morning. It’s currently 64°F, and The Weather Channel says the sun will come out at lunchtime and we’ll get up to 75. I already have the windows open, even though it’s a touch chilly, so Bailey can press her nose to one of the home office screens…when she’s not looking out the storm door. The rest of this week should be mostly sunny, with highs in the mid-70s to low 80s. Not bad at all for early September in DC.

On Friday evening I started building the Lego arcade machine set, and yesterday I finished both it and the birthday cake set. Both are really small. The cake isn’t much to look at, but it has a cute lil scene inside of it and it was free (an early gift from Lego) so I’ll keep it displayed on my desk at home through my birthday. I’m really happy with the arcade machine, which looks cute from the outside and then opens up to show an even cuter mini living room scene. Both sets have hinges – and minifigs inside – and require two pictures to show the “completed” build, so instead of posting four photos I’ll just provide a link to my updated Lego photo album (which also includes current display pictures) for those who are interested.

I went to the grocery store yesterday (after the vet) and stocked up on frozen meals, including treating myself to a box of Pizza Cupcakes…which is what I will soon have for lunch.

(I didn’t go to Whole Foods, this is just the best link I can find: the company’s site has all of their products on one page – with no “bookmarks” – and you have to scroll quite a bit. Meh.)

Hooray!

And “Communion by Extension” sounds like a good thing. The hosts are still properly consecrated, and I say the more lay eucharistic ministers who can help with getting 'em out there the better.

No pancakes for me, though pre-surgery I loved them. But sometimes I go through White Castle phases (especially the jalapeño sliders), and I definitely feel ya on the Hot Pockets: I’m in the midst of a long meatballs & mozeralla kick. Just seems like whenever I’m in the mood for one, that’s what I want. Sometimes I get the four-cheese pizza or cheesesteak ones, but these days it’s all meatballs. Those three flavors, pepperoni pizza, and ham & cheese seem to be all that’s available around here: I kind of miss when there used to be a bunch of options! Anyway, the rest of my freezer is mostly Uncrustables (for lunch at work) and Marie Calender’s small chicken pot pies, but right now I also have a few boxes of Sukhi’s chicken tikka masala products.

I’m imagining the whistle…awwwww!

I’LL BE RIGHT THERE!

Oh my…I’m sure it wasn’t funny to you, but…!

Nice work, and so very many Legos in the house!

Fuckin’ drain on society.

I cleand, scooped Spot’s box, vacuumed, took out the trash and recycling, and refilled the vermin feeder. I didn’t get the porch swept since it started raining. Now I got handegg on.

When I find scratches on my body, I always have to play “Work or Spot?”

For me it’s mostly “Where did that come from???”

We’ve cleared the boat for the workers, hoping this will be the week. Back home to be RDOS.

I’ve got one more night left staying at my sister’s house. It’s a good thing these dogs are sweet and cute because man are they a lot to deal with. I’m ready to be able to sit on the couch and not be at the bottom of 200+ pounds of dog. @The_Stainless_Steel_Rat if I had to stay much longer I’d be buying you a plane ticket and let you cuddle to your heart’s content :joy: I need a break!

That looks delicious!!

Don’t be so hard on yourself! You’ve been a good tenant, and honest mistakes happen. Would putting down a fresh layer of wax be sufficient to cover up any imperfections/damage? Also, IIRC aren’t you looking to move somewhat soon? If so, I wouldn’t say anything - depending on the quality of the flooring, it might already be at it’s natural end of life anyway.

Scrolling further I see it’s vinyl from a roll - don’t lose a bit of sleep over that stuff! It’s super cheap and probably been trying to self-destruct for years at this point, which you foiled with the layers of wax.

It’s definitely more work than a freshwater tank, and more trouble than I would want to go to (but I am also very very lazy). I think it’s about a 15 gallon tank, and he spends probably an hour a week on it, including water changes. It took a lot more time when they were getting it set up and going. They go pretty regularly to have the water tested to adjust the additives or whatever is needed to keep everything in balance, and they also buy jugs of saltwater to add to the tank as the water evaporates off. So if an aquarium supply store isn’t relatively nearby, that would get tedious.

And @purplehorseshoe and @FairyChatMom are right, it’s a lot more expensive than freshwater. Everything costs more, from the components to the critters. Even tiny pieces of coral can be $50 or more if they’re a particularly pretty or unique variety.

pilot Women in the service industry find their tips are larger when they don’t mention the men in their life to their male clients. I’m not saying that you’re wrong about her (I’ve certainly known enough women like that!) but it could also be a bit of strategy on her part.

Monkey had some outside time in the cool sunshine (ideal for a black cat - he gets overheated fast if it’s baking out there, but .. because cat .. he still wants to sunbathe) and he behaved himself, sticking close by the door and returning promptly when called. :black_heart:

Meanwhile, I gathered up (some) trash, and the big bin is at the curb already.

I never brought it back in this week. Late pickup due to holiday, forgot the next day, and then decided, “Fuck it, it’s close enough to the next pickup day anyway.”

But man, is there still so much more household cleanup that still needs doin’. I really let some things get away from me. { shame face }

Meanwhile, I have eaten a pair of scrambled eggs & am bringing an instant-noodle cup thingy with me to work along with a tapioca pudding cup for today’s snax, plus I have a mini guacamole cup stashed in the walk-in as an additional treat. (Don’t have tortilla chips, but I think I still have some Triscuits hidden away … close enough!)

See? Eating! Or at least - mostly - planning to. Later. Right now, the highly buttered eggies are assimilating, and the ratties need tending before I roll out to fetch Sprinkles and head in for yet another closing shift.

Just a quick note from the gym; have had my 3-course meal at Golden Corral and was almost home when I realized I had left my phone at the restaurant! So turned around and drove the 25 minutes back and fortunately for me they had it. So went to the gym anyway to work out the aggravation and am resting now after 800 calories of working out on treadmill and cycle. Got about 2 hours left to sweat some more pot roast and pecan pie away, but it was worth the sweating. Also can watch the pro tackleball on the built-in TV’s on the machines.

Have read all but am terrible at replies on my phone so will play catch-up after I get home.

We went back to the Christian Fellowship today. The pastor is a better speaker than the Episcopalian padre (is it still a padre if the reverend is a woman?), but I did like the structure of the Episcopalian service. The songs are shorter and there are fewer of them.

We went down to Drayton Harbor Oyster Company afterward. The Missus had two grilled oysters and some of my fries. I had an oyster po’boy (no bread for one half) and some of the fries that came with it. She had a lager, and I had an IPA.

Got the trash and recycling out. The mole trap arrived (third try pays for all!) and has been put away. Just about time to get the cats’ gooshy fud out of the fridge.

Our rain stopped a few hours ago, but it’s still overcast and it hasn’t gotten out of the 60s. We’ve got some sunny days ahead, so there’s that.

I need to make a list for Aldi - I plan to get there shortly after they open tomorrow. We passed the store on the way back from the boat, but weekends are stoopit-busy there and I prefer to mosey thru without braving the crazies. I’m wondering if the new Aldi will be bigger than this one - I’ll find out on the 18th.

Other than that, the rest of today will be chilled away.

I like my church as they have good worship songs; bouncy, accompanied by music and a drummer( 17 and hes great) and people stand and whoop.
