Pet pics in the MMP

Mornin’ Mumpers! - Happy Moanday. About 0745 as I start to drivel. Rained overnight, gray and wet everywhere, and presently raining heavily out over the ocean, but not immediately here. NWS sez that will move onshore later and we’ll all be getting wet this afternoon. Presently 79/26 on the way to a comfy 91/33. In swampy’s fine words: “That is early Fall weather for these parts.”

Had a pleasant early dinner of HH chicken wings at the German joint a couple blocks away. Big meaty things and a nicely hot sauce for $1/ea. Such a deal! Successfully kept it low-carb by avoiding the giant hot salty yummy Bavarian pretzel mit bierkäse for a second course. Managed to dodge meaningful rain coming and going, so just a light sprinkling to refresh my hairdo. Go me!

I have useful activities I ought to do now that it’s Monday and office irkers be irkin’, but I probably won’t. Tue, Wed, & Thu mornings first thing I have docs, housekeepers, and docs respectively, so today is my only weekday to laze away the morning in proper RDOS fashion. And so I shall.

Had phone call with GF last night as she was in bed in the Athens hotel. I just love the sound of a woman’s voice when she’s horizontal. She was prepping to get 5 hours of sleep then get up to shevel & leave for the airport. We really miss each other, she’s exhausted, but they packed a LOT of fun into their time away and she’s happy to have gone and happy to be returning.

We’re not scheduled to see each other until noon-ish Saturday, but schedules have been known to be revised.

Great pet pix so far. So cuuute. As an adult I’ve never owned a pet of any sort unless you count some lawn & garden moles (Hi Flyboy!!) and that one infestation of Brown Recluses in the basement of the Big House. The last pet my parents owned died in about 1981 shortly after I finished college.

From last week …

@susan is surely right. As is @JaneDoe42. We saw the same thing around here when trump was elected the first time, where SDMB turned into “all trump all the time with a side order of fuck y’all I’m so stressed I’m lashing out.”

IRL will get a lot worse before it gets better. Here probably will as well. I’ve certainly adjusted the areas of SDMB I pay little or no attention to.

But overall, this place remains a bastion of social sanity in an increasingly crazy world, so I’d be real reluctant to abandon it. What’s left? Absolute hermitage? Hermitosity?

Good point there @liirogue. I check for rings, but I also know most female FAs wore wedding-like rings even if they were single; it kept the mildly boorish passengers at bay. The pregnant woman I encountered had no rings. I’m wondering what Jane learns from necklaces; I don’t think of them as having any connection to relationship status.

My point from my prior post was that even in group peer conversations I’ve talked with plenty of women where we’re sharing our respective family situations, potted life histories, etc., and to hear them tell their tale, there are no men now, no men in their past, but she sure has her own great kids. As I delicately inquire, turns out dear hubby of 30 years is over there across the room in another group of yakkers.

It’s just incomprehensible to me to talk about anything from my married years in any terms other than “we”. If we’d had children, they’d certainly be “ours”, not “mine” even now that my wife is deceased.

YMMV.

Good to hear that @Jack_Batty & Bob had the best kind of fire: someone else’s. And not too serious; it’s easier than it ought to be for one of those buildings to get going good and put 40 households out on the street without most of their worldly possessions.

@TokyoBayer: Been a rough couple of weeks for you. Between your late friend, the house project, etc. When I used to be heavy into boating I found that it’s soo easy to get chilled to the bone when you’re wet through even though the air temperature is pleasant. And at least for me, there’s no exhaustion like the aftermath of being chilled. Normal sleeping nor eating can make up for it; need to double-up on both for a day or two. Easier said than done in a busy life. Bib-type rainsuit for the bottom 2/3rds and a long rain jacket w integral hood for the top 60% is the way to go. With flotation because it’s a bitch to swim in that gear.

Is that not the general lot in life of teachers? Doesn’t make it any more fun, but at least it makes it less unexpected.

But yeah, that does sound seriously demoralizing to jump up front, turn on your performance energy and take charge while bone-tired and then the little shits just sit there sullenly absorbing all your precious energy to no evident effect except their annoyance.

As several of us have said at other times in other threads: “Good thing they’re cute or they’d never live to reproduce”.

Well, an hour’s gone by, a big part of today’s short supply of dry ones. So I’ll drop this on the wire for good or ill.

Cheers all!
