(Old) 24 Hours of Labor- A Labor Day MMP

Pretty much by definition any rear ender is the legal fault of the person behind. The exceptions are rare and extreme.

Best of luck!

I napped. I dreamed I had a dog, that got in a fight with 2 other dogs, and getting stuck leaping over fences because they were all stupid. This morphed into the usual retail dream, which morphed into a bad Resident Evil remake(Seriously, why do I have to cut through 3 layers of 1.5" woven matting above the ceiling tiles to escape the zombies?). Spot napped with me. I had a martini, with cavatappi, chicken, and broccoli and mushrooms with butter, garlic, and rosemary.

EEK! Hope they can solve the issue.

LOL

This pleases us. the other stuff, not so much. {{{{nellie}}}}

Pilot: “The Fasten Seatbelt Sign is now on, as Jerry is throwing some serious flak at us, and evasive maneuvers are required.”
Copilot, crew, and passengers: “WTF?!?!”

Oy.

Yep

I recall as a kid, a neighbor had an Irish wolfound, Tara, I if remember right. My sister used to ride it like a horse back when she was like 4. The thing could rise up with paws on its dad’s shoulders and look over his head. Same guy used to play his bag-pipes outside, cuz his wife wouldn’t let him play them inside, understandably.

So much going on at work. I wanna go down in the shop and just build some stuff, but I have too many responsibilities above ground with contractors etc. However, I am taking next week off. My first paid vacation in 20 years. I don’t think my vacation (singular) I took while working for myself counts as paid.

Up, caffeinated, and sheveled. Off to heave. It’s up to 61 degrees Ferret Height(16.1 Centipedes)

Yay vacation, VanGo!! You and Peach doing anything?

There’s a reason that the piper stands on a hill at funerals. (says someone who likes pipes, but realizes that they are best appreciated at a distance)

Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN ‘Tis 65 Amurrkin out and clear with a predicted high of 88 and sunny. We will get shorn this mornin’, go over to the church house so I can deal with candle duty and pick up a check to take with me to Honey Creek, and have lunch at Asia hog trough Buffet. We will need the afternoon to recover from all that activity! I need to drag an overnight bag outta the closet and make myself a checklist of stuff to take with me. I get a bit CDO whenever I have to spend even one night away from da cave.

Now I need more caffeine and then must purtify and don attire acceptable for bein’ amongst the great unwashed. Woe and bother.

Happy Thursday Y’all!

I hate figuring out apps. I got a reminder about my bonanza check from some class action settlement - all of $7.43 - and I had to load it into my Google Wallet. Which I don’t use. So I had to figure it out. For $7.43… anyway, it’s done.

Shortly I’ll shower for our trek to CVS to be shot. Then I’m going to the new Weis in Charlotte Hall to check out their Grand Opening specials. I doubt that I’ll shop there regularly - when they opened a new store near where I worked (when I worked) I went a couple of times, but their prices were stoopit. However, I’m willing to enter for loss leaders, so we’ll see today. Plus it’s across the street from Food Lion where my favorite peanut butter is on sale, so a two-fer.

That’s as far ahead as I’ve planned. Stoopit temps are supposed to hit mid-80s, so I might have to close up the house, dammit. Upper 80s threatened for tomorrow and Sat, dammit. Then back to the glorious 70s. And that’s the weather for Southern Merrylande! Updates as warranted.

Happy Thursday!!

Me, too. I have an 8:30 appointment for a flu shot. I want the 2025/2026 vax at the same time, but CVS doesn’t have it yet. Their website claims they have the newest Covid vax, but when I asked their actual pharmacist about it a couple of days ago, it turns out they don’t. I was told to keep checking back to see when they have it. I did check, on their website, and was misinformed. Well, I’ll ask a real person about it again today when I’m getting the flu shot.

Our 15-year-old drier finally gave up the ghost the other day. It has been repaired three or four times over the years, but it has breathed its last. So we went to Lowe’s a few days ago and found the same exact Maytag to replace it. Mr. brown looked through our old receipts (he meticulously saves all appliance receipts), and saw that it cost the same back then as now. Wow. The new drier is arriving today.

With appliance arrival upheaval and vaccination plans going on today, it’s unwise to plan on cooking a lunch. So I’ll look into getting some takeaway from somewhere or other.

Afternoon, mumpers! It’s currently 14c/57f with a predicted high of 16c/60f and scattered showers. Weather app says “According to my fucking sources, rain fucking sucks ass.”

Sometimes it’s also just referred to as meat and potato pie even though that is a different dish entirely. My mum called it Monday Pie because whatever meat went in it was the leftovers from the Sunday roast.

I’m glad he has seen sense, it’s not really a good time when you’re not going to be around a lot, and perhaps when he wants to revisit it later, you’ll have had time to get some more good reasons lined up.

But not too much fun, I hope

Happy birthday to Zoe - I am glad you enjoyed watching the video of her highlights!

{{{{{Oopsie and Bailey}}}}}

I hope they manage to fix you up!

Yay for paid holidays! Do you have any plans, or is it a week of bonding with Peach?

Muffin continued to improve yesterday, still no really solid poo but she’s much more like her feisty self so that’s a good sign. I think since she and Blossom are more affected than Cherry, it’s something to do with furballs rather than anything else.

I have an exciting training session to sit through this afternoon so that will be an hour of my life I’ll never see again. On the bright side, I have been offered a lone-working day in another office tomorrow. They need someone to keep the place open so that academic staff can pick up or drop off assessment marking, so I don’t need to do anything much apart from just be there in case anyone comes in. Sounds good to me, a day on campus with proper peace and quiet. Winner!

Mornin’ all - About 0830 as I start driveling. Had a blood draw first thing and I’m now caffinatin’ & feedin’ at a Kountry-or-sumthin’ eatery near the lab. Then home to shevel properly.

We had a rainy overnight and when I awoke it was past sunrise with a large rainshower over the ocean. Gotta make sure the fish stay wet. The day promises mostly sunny with showers about. NWS says 78/26 on the way to 90/32. So nice. Truly Gawd’s weather.

Last night got late, so getting up for the draw was … inconvenient. At least my favorite phlebotomist was working so massive hugs were exchanged. She’s raising a teen and going to nursing college full time beside her 40 hours at the lab. So much energy but so many burdens.

It always strikes me funny that after a blood draw at 0730 I’m famished. On days I laze around the house, I first start thinking about breakfast at about 1000. Typically I’m first up around 0600 in either case. So why the difference? Anyhow, breakfast shall be grilled pork chops, 2 eggs (of course) and grits. These folks make great grits.

GF wants a phone call in an hour-ish, so after I eat it’s time to go home so I have reliable reception, no noise, and no distractions. Looking forward to that.

Otherwise the Orders of the Day shall be RDOS.

VanGo: congrats on your (and Peaches’) vacation! Sounds fun.

FCM: Irish wolfhound? Really? Talk about double-or-nuthin’ For a practical engineer dude, your man has an impractical streak a mile wide there.

Then again, as I approach the 2-year anniversary of my retirement I see that everything prominent in my current personality and way of life is all the stuff I kept repressed for 50 years on the job(s). Dr. Jekyll has retired and Mr. Hyde is now rampant upon the neighborhood. Yee Haw!!

Boofae: Enjoy your day of paid solitude and Doping!

Gotta run to my next event. Cheers!

Me three on the shots. My appointment is at 9am so I do have time to break fast and get ready, the Walgreens is only 3 miles away. Only 70F now but due to get to near 90F later today, and a 1-in-7 chance of rain. Nothing much else planned after the shots, I am not expecting any reactions (never had one before except some soreness in the shoulders) but best to be careful. Do have soccer practice with the littles at 5:30pm so have that to look forward too.

Would have sworn I posted late last night, but such is life, so I’ll just go scrollin’ through the MMP today…

Coppertone, they ought to offer you a job just from the hassle they put you through.

FCM, hope he will compromise on at least a medium-sized dog. (like the before-mentioned bassets). And you reminded me to check my Powerball tickets (goes and gets them…and I WON…$4, which would barely cover the gas to go redeem it)..

Only bet I ever won was a dollar from a friend at work, who refused to believe there was an organization called “The Flat Earth Society”. So I brought in references and their address and he paid up.

Cookie, hope the eye doc is of some help today.

nellie, good luck with the floor cleaning, I really need to do that but I’m extraordinarily lazy when it comes to floor care. And hope Sis-in-law is getting good pain medications, that sounds like a nasty fall.

Flyboy, it was too early in the morning to cry, but thanks anyway for remembering Scylla’s story.

Pilot, sounds like a case of Pasta overload is pending. And glad you survived.

red. heck of a way to start your time in Houston. Maybe the guy called the cops so he could find a way to blame you and gt his car fixed on your insurance? Glad all is well.

VanGo, enjoy your vacation! And making money while doing it!!!

swampy, now don’t go overdoing things now…

lucky, interesting that the dryer’s price hasn’t changed.

boo fae, hope the feline overlords keep getting better. And a quiet work day with no cow-orkers to disturb you…priceless!

And onward into the day. Big Bowl of Cereal is next on the agenda. Take care and have a good Thorsday all.

Mornin’ all.

It’s 62°F and cloudy. We’ll have mostly cloudy skies early, then partly cloudy this afternoon with a high of 82°F.

Oopsie :people_hugging:.

VanGo, enjoy your vacation!

BooFae, I hope the kitties keep improving.

I didn’t even win a ticket on Saturday’s Powerball ticket, and didn’t bother to purchase one for yesterday’s drawing. As it turns out, no one won that drawing either, so maybe, if I’m out and about, I’ll buy a ticket for the Saturday drawing.

Nellie, I’m so sorry about your SiL. I need to give my floors a serious scrub, too.

Cookie, I hope you get some answers.

Red, I’m glad the damage was minimal and you are unhurt, but still, what a bummer. As others have noted, the rear-endee is rarely at fault. Even if you had stopped, he was following too close for conditions, which puts him at fault.

I think today will consist of laundry unless I can muster up enough get-up-and-go to run down to one of my favorite nurseries. This particular nursery is having a big sale, and it might be worth picking something up from there.

And, well, other than that, I can’t think of anything exciting going on for me.

Okay, gotta run. Please take care of yourselves.

Whatever happened to Scylla, anyway?

Guten morgen! Caffeinating. It’s piddling it down outside, and quite windy – enough so that my allegedly windproof umbrella was having some difficulty with finding said proof. That made the Homerian odyssey into work take that much longer. On a positive note, yesterday’s busy day in which I spent the company’s money was significantly easier than it has been thanks to the recission of the Canadian counter-tariffs on over 90% of the stuff I have to buy, so my day was much more pleasant. I have no idea how long that’s going to last before Mango Mussolini gets all trade warry again, so I’m just going to enjoy it while it lasts while assuming that it won’t.

The wifey once again brought up the prospect of making stuffed peppers this weekend, and I think I may well just do that after all, so tomorrow Imma pick up the good ground beef, some rice, sauce makings, garlic, peppers, and whatever else I might need and give it a go. I think I can manage to do a half decent job. Mushrooms? I think sauteed mushrooms would be nice in it.

Glad everything checked out OK! I’ve had two optical migraines in my life, both within the last 10 years or so, the most recent last year. I was freaked right out when I had the first one because I had no idea what was going on or how long it was going to last. I was trying to Google it while it was happening, which was awkward because I had to look at the screen partially out of my peripheral vision because I couldn’t see out the center for that scintillating ball of expanding electricity that hovered there. I eventually found out what it was and calmed down, and it only lasted maybe 10 minutes all told.

Ah, so it’s part of 50501, nice. I’ve been following that movement since it started (I do a lot of news posting on Bluesky which includes protest coverage like this.) I’ll see if I can dig it up.

See, I can’t even imagine how bad things are in the US since our tariffs are retaliatory, but yours are on everything. Greedflation has been bad enough, but tacking all those tariffs on top just makes a terrible situation so much worse. We’ve been doing our part to protest them through a Buy Canadian movement that’s taken off like gangbusters here, where many of us consciously avoid buying American products in favour of Canadian (or at least not American) alternatives. It’s been working pretty well, too. I’m seeing a lot of formerly regional Canadian brands I’ve never seen before suddenly becoming available all over the place. It’s pretty wonderful!

Yup. Born and bred Canuck from the True North Strong and Free here.

Ouch! Hope she heals fast. I did have a fall early this year; tripped on a low curb, fell forward, and cracked a rib. Not nearly as bad as your SIL’s fall, but I was in pain for the next couple of weeks while the rib healed, especially when I had to sit down or bend.

Ha! I’ve actually had “shepherd’s” pie made with pulled roast beef before at a local restaurant that’s no longer there, and it was excellent! I’m going to have to try making that myself one of these days.

Okay, back to the trenches.

Not a scratch on his F250. Mine will be less than a deductible, more than likely.

I hope that your SIL heals quickly, nellie.

Up, caffeinating, breakfasted and fixing to do KP. I’ll get the last of the stuff put away today. Then, all I’ll be waiting for is Sis to bring Granddad’s bookcase, BIL to hook up the W/D and take away the old desk. Then, I’ll be truly retired.

Stay safe and healthy y’all!

Hoo-RAY!!!

I’m slacking a little earlier than usual today because I’ll be heading home shortly after lunch: I have to be in the office 3 days a week and that’s usually Mon-Wed, but Monday was a holiday – and we were supposed to have a team meeting this morning – so I’m at the office today. I’ll be leaving early because I want to swing by the animal hospital when it isn’t rush hour to pick up some other prescription food options for Bailey to try. She’s not eating the first choice, despite being hungry: there may be a clock on our remaining time together, but I’m determined to treat her IBD as best I can at least until the next vet appointment. I’ll be back home in time for a 3pm meeting, and will finish the work day from there. I can work from home all day tomorrow, which will be good.

Also good is that I have no plans this weekend, so I can read my new book and build my new Lego set and still have plenty of time for slothing and TV watching.

My birthday is later this month, and the other day I learned that my boss’s birthday is 8 days before mine! Two Virgos running the program area…I almost feel bad for the staff. Almost. :smiling_face_with_horns:

Exactly! :joy:

Not morbid at all; it makes total sense to me to think about things like that!

That sounds downright terrifying. :frowning: I hope you got/will get/are getting some answers this morning!

The self-checkout at my Safeway (the grocery store I go to most often) works great, but the one at my Giant (the other nearby chain) is ridiculous: it’s super sensitive, and says “please move your item to the bagging area” every damn time whether I’ve moved the item or not…and can’t always tell when I have. I almost always wind up needing an attendant to come over and calm it down. Safeway must have turned that “feature” – and one or two others – off, and it makes for a much better experience. It will actually sometimes make me choose Safeway over Giant. I imagine it’s a theft/shoplifting detection thing, but I’d be willing to bet that Safeway’s rate isn’t any higher. Their staff is probably happier, too!

I’m so glad you weren’t hurt!

Tara was the name of my ex’s Beagle. Heh.

Wow, indeed! That’s kind of amazing!

Well, that was interesting…

Went to Wal-Greens for my shots, checking in was easy and I took a seat to wait my turn, but when they called me back up I was told that while the flu and pneumonia vaccines were covered no charge, the COVID was going to cost me $95!! I was, as you can imagine, a bit non-plussed about it but kept my cool and asked why since I am on Medicare and obviously over 65. They did a little more checking and according to them, the newest COVID release (guess they just got it) has not got the necessary i’s dotted and t’s crossed in the system so it shows up as not covered. They advised coming back in a week or two and it should be cleared up. So settled for two shots instead of three, and will try again mid-September.

So the Powerball jackpot for Saturday is up to $1.7 billion…enough to tempt me to do another Tennessee 2-step? Perhaps.

Kaboom, happy pepper-stuffing! And hope your job is afflicted by more tariffs, but I fear that is not the way to bet… Glad you healed up OK from your fall, I went down refereeing a soccer game several weeks ago and while nothing broke, I was sore and achy for a week.

red, welcome the to land of the RDOS!!

Oopsie, hope the other food options tempt Bailey’s palate. Happy Lego-building!

And onward into the Afternoon. Already 81F so the AC will be turned on shortly. Take care all.

I asked ours and she said it arrived here on Moanday. We’ve both been shot, so we’re good for this season… I hope.

We had a place near us called Kevin’s Kountry Kafe - the very name gave me the shudders. Guess it did to others, too. It’s out of business.

He likes what he likes - I dunno. I won’t even go into his history with cars…

No. No basset. I don’t like ‘em and don’t want one. Honestly, our best dog, IMHO, was Bernie - a border collie/lab mix. She was a love, and very mellow. If I could clone her, I would.

In two weeks when the Aldi in Charlotte Hall opens, my grocery shopping will be an adventure. All three stores are within a mile of each other, so I’ll check their sale offerings before heading that way and hit all 3 in succession.. Actually, I’ll only go to Weis if they’ve got a super-good deal advertised, because their regular prices are, and have always been, high. But today, I scored bottled Diet Coke in 6-packs for buy 2 get 3 free - coming to just under $3 per six pack. That was worth the stop. And they had some frozen veggies for 99¢ if you bought 4, which I did. But nothing else was worth it.

I ran into the thrift store where they’ve been doing some construction. The store is losing the whole section where they had furniture and a big chunk of where they had housewares. Not sure what they’ll do now. They need a bigger space but I’m guessing rent is the issue.

I really don’t feel like doing anything now. I told FCD I’d vacuum his car - maybe I’ll do that, because I’m nice, dammit.

Forgot the other fun note. FCD had ordered some shoes on line and he was notified that they were out for delivery yesterday. Checking his messages this morning, he was informed that they’d been delivered yesterday at 4:30PM to the campus mail room.

Um, the campus nearest to us is 7 miles away in a different zip code! WTF?? He downloaded the invoice and he did, in fact, put the correct address on the order.

As we were leaving for CVS, I noticed the mailbox delivery flag was up, so we stopped, and there were his shoes. Isn’t that illegal if you’re not the USPS? These came via DHL (Dewey, Huey, and Louie, according to my BIL who used to work for them.) Apparently the delivery driver couldn’t be bothered to go the extra 100’ to our porch and I’m further guessing that they have a delivery pulldown and mailbox is next to mailroom?

OTOH, Brown delivered some boat stuff and the driver carried it into the garage, past both cars and just outside the door to the kitchen. Now that’s service!

The Santa Fe has been more or less vacuumed, by which I mean it’s not as cruddy as it was, but my Shark with a crevice attachment isn’t perfect. But I got the worst of it up. I also cleaned his windshield of bug splats - they made me crazy when I was riding with him.

I pulled the last of the spiral ham from the freezer - that’ll be supper along with cabbage-n-onioins and something else - maybe peas? Such productivity I’ve had!!
