Up in the middle of the night. I wash the dishes while listening to a true crime story on YouTube.
True crime has the right level of detail so it’s not boring, but it doesn’t take too much concentration.
I took two trips out to the dump. One load of all the old doors and another of old drywall.
They have bags like the kind you use for sandbags and they are perfect for putting the small pieces of drywall. I had about 22 of them on the second floor with a steep staircase. Then I had the idea of using the part where there’s a hole between floors and made a slide for the bags. It saved a lot of walking.
A friend is letting me use his small pickup truck, which is really cool of him. Last time I filled it up and gave him some cash. He refused to take the cash I offered today. Glad I had filled it up.
The wake for my friend is tomorrow. The parents (mostly mothers) are helping cooking things for the wake. I work tomorrow but SenWife will help out.
I was loading Top Yellow on the 100 today, which was a 900 piece set. But it didn’t feel like it. I fear the worst. I did my Senior Day shopping afterwards, now it’s naptime.
Because Scotty can’t beam something down if you forget.
Yay!
I got mine today.
I gotta hit up the doc, since apparently I need a prescription to get a COVID one in N.C. now
In July, I ordered some decongestant from Amazon. I kept getting emails saying it was delayed. (The last couple of times I ordered it, it came the next day.) After a month, I cancelled the order and then immediately placed another order. It arrived the next day. I don’t understand how something already shipped/shipping is not delivered, but a new order is delivered immediately.
It seems to be happening again. I ordered an extra mole trap. The first one (the kit, with the probe) arrived in a day or two. The extra trap (without the probe) that was ordered at the same time was delayed. And delayed. And delayed. So I cancelled the order and re-ordered. It shipped immediately, and I should have received it earlier this week. The package was last seen in Burlington, WA (fewer than 50 road miles away).
Monday, September 1
8:00 PM Package delayed in transit
2:16 AM Package being processed at carrier facility. Burlington, US
2:08 AM Package arrived at a carrier facility. Burlington, US
…
Saturday, August 30
7:47 PM Package arrived at an Amazon facility. Allentown, PA US
Package left the shipper facility
So what happened? Did they lose it – within the facility – between 02:08 and 20:00? Did the van blow up?
Their latest Orders update said the package is expected to arrive between yesterday and tomorrow.
I assume you meant not afflicted. I’m not making any bets on that. Things are more volatile than driving vial of nitroglycerine down a dirt road in an old jitney with a missing wheel, but I’ll take what I can get while I can get it.
Went to my Kindle and looked up the title of Louise Penny’s first book. And it opened. Because I bought it last year and never read it. Oops. hangs head
I understand about room. Hubby collected model trains until space became a problem. The arcade game is much more practical, as far as space is concerned.
Yay!
Poor Muffin. How long do you think she’ll be staying with you? She’s certainly lucky to have you and her own space.
Hope that’s all it is. Or something equally innocent.
Made refrigerator pickles and washing my hands with lavendar soap just means my hands smell like dill and lavendar. Weird.
I’ve never had one before – hadn’t even heard of it. It sounds interesting, at any rate, though I’m slightly put off by any savoury dish that someone puts raisins in. (Looking at you, raisins-in-potato-salad people.) I only ever make an exception for that in a nice byriani.
Two tons of pellets will be delivered on Tuesday. Between now and then, I need to clear the end of the garage. Luckily, not much has accumulated. Last winter, we burned less than 2 anna half tons. Hope we don’t need more this winter because that’s about what we’ll have. Off to see if the winter prediction is out yet…
Up at the crack of dawn this morning to get breakfast up before our drive south to Bloomington to see the eye doc at 0830. I call her that because I can’t spell ophthalmologist. Much to my relief, she found nothing wrong with my eyeballs, other than my scrip is a bit off. New glasses, I can deal with.
So it appears that the ER doc probably nailed it. He called it an amaurosis fugax, or a temporary blockage in the blood vessels that supply the retina. So I’m back on low-dose aspirin. Anyway, I’m glad that mess is over with, and thanks for the well wishes.
We’re having October weather this week. I don’t think we’re going to break 50F. Perhaps some rain on the way, also.
In my previous post I mentioned my ex’s former Beagle, who was named Tara. He and I were living together when Bailey was adopted: he worked from home, and took care of her during the day until we split when she was 10 months old (she was always “my” dog). It was an amicable breakup, and a little while ago I messaged him – for the first time since the Nationals won the World Series – and let him know that she’s sick. I offered him a chance to see her one more time. I think it’s been ~15 years since the last time he saw her (or we saw each other): he might have preferred to simply keep his memories of a young/healthy dog, but it didn’t feel right to at least not give him the option. Turns out he would like to see her, and will be coming over sometime next Thursday. I’ve never – ever – wanted him back, but we always got along platonically and I think it will be a good visit; I know I’ll be glad that he’s seeing Bailey again while she’s still mostly herself (if a bit bony).
I’m sorry that you aren’t able to go.
In 2017 I went to Paris with some friends, and while out one night I started lightly chatting with some Europeans sitting at the next table: the guy asked if I was Canadian, and I told him I was American but thanked him for the compliment (that I wasn’t clearly an “ugly American”).
I don’t know…but, if I were that employer the fact that you didn’t mention a possible conflict before the interview would be a nonstarter.
Ha!
You and me, we can be friends.
I hope the aspirin helps, but I know that sometimes blood thinners come with their own issues. I’m glad it isn’t anything more serious/urgent (“it’s not a too-mah!”).
The piece I’m currently working on has canvas (made in Canada, I recognize the blue line on the salvage), Turkish wool and was turned into a kit with canvas, pattern and threads in the UK. Many people don’t understand how interconnected everything was before this, why would they?I knew things were going to go to shit back in November. I’d have to look, but I think I ordered my Handmaid Uniform back in 2024, but I had already been hanging out at the capital before that.I’m panic buying now. I can still get things at pre-tarriff prices when I buy from private parties which helps because while I could afford them at twice the cost, I wouldn’t buy them because of the trump taxes.
Swampy, fer a 6-pack back in the 70’s, I’d have headed to the library as well. You must have paid attention in school, I know I’ve long forgotten all of the capital names.
At least you had a co-pilot and auto-pilot to help you out. I once spent an hour sitting on the side of the road to avoid killing people. I thought I’d make it home before the brain storm really got going - I was wrong.
DANG! I do hope they are giving her good drugs at least.
GG chases the laser dot with maniac enthusiasm. Jolene figured out that one of her slaves is controlling the dot and will bite hands in her attempt to get the dot at the source.
Hows that for a big Welcome To The Neighborhood? Dang that it happened, good that you were just inconvenienced.
He was at fault.
Hurray! Whatcha gonna do? I’m sure doggy bonding time will be involved, anything else?
Hurray, going to the laundromat is one of my less favorite things to do.
Mom cleaned out the fridge on Mondays so we had Monday Mystery Casserole. It often featured mashed potatoes on top.
Same.I don’t usually think about breakfast for a few hours after waking up, but I’m just dying of hunger after a fasting blood draw.
That’s always a good reason to don bra and shoes!
I was going to do that as well, but we only have three on the plant. We just got over Fall is upon us
Retirement is magical, I hope you enjoy it as much as me!
Same here. There is a Hardee’s next door to my doctors office. I usually get country ham biscuits for the family after. The phlebotomist says they should get a kickback for all the business they send them.
New phone today. It was time. The power button keeps falling off the old one, fortunately in my pocket. The volume rocker is long gone, I even bought a new kit for that, but it didn’t stay. The new bells and whistles will take a little getting used to, but it’s pretty much the same. It even imported my wallpaper pic of Peach.
Speaking of whom, she was a little evil last night. I woke at 4:30 to the sound of a horking dog. She ate one of my slippers. Gotta say though, 3 weeks with a puppy and 1 slipper isn’t bad.
And I think we’re going to Maine next week to visit the folks.
Theoretically, we’ve got some t-boomers headed our way. Rain wound be nice. A long, steady shower would be nicer.
Supper has been ingested. Dishwasher has washed the dishes. Good ice maker is making good ice. I’m about to assume the crochet position. Chillage shall ensue.
STILL working on floors. I feel like I got a life sentence for a crime I didn’t commit. OK, maybe applying polish was a crime. My SIL is a bit better, so that’s encouraging. Thank you for all the well wishes for her recovery.
Cookie, a heartfelt “WHEW!” that you’re OK and that the blockage is temporary. I get ocular migraines once or twice/month. I’ve had the test where they run contrast through an IV to check for blockages. A nurse is present in case you pass out or puke–hardly reassuring. Did you have anything similar?
Also, I loved your recent cartoon.
Oopsie, blessings upon you for your determination to make Bailey’s home stretch as nice as you can.
Coppertone, maybe it depends on the district? It would have been a hard pass by my district. Didn’t the application ask about prior felonies?
Kudos to her for powering through! Any one of those would be plenty for most people.
See? Your teachers were right when they said studying would pay off! I know all the state capitals, but that’s because I taught geography.
Oo! That’s brilliant! I want one, and I don’t have any pets.
Red, sorry about the accident. Even though the other driver was at fault, it’s still a huge hassle.
Kaboom, I am now craving stuffed peppers. Yours sound delicious!
I once ordered a book from Amazon. It left a facility in California, made various stops along the way, and ended up in Cincinnati, where it fell off the radar. I like to think it jumped off the truck and ran to party with some Hunter S. Thompson books. Amazon sent another one gratis. Three months later, the original book showed up, a little hungover but in good shape. The ways of da Jungle are passing strange.
JTC: (spoilered for quasi-political content) I’m relieved I live in a blue state but depressed by the Washington, Oregon, California, and now Hawai’i are forming an alliance “to uphold scientific integrity” and “provide evidence-based immunization guidance rooted in safety, efficacy, and transparency — ensuring residents receive credible information free from political interference.” I’m grateful I live in a blue state but depressed by the necessity of circumventing the US government. The inmates are indeed running the asylum.
Well, side-eye isn’t cleaning the floor. Hugs to all.
Readcation is ending. Started with heading out for breakfast and starting the book. The book is done now, and I have set the alarms for work tomorrow. Lager has left my lap and is waiting for the feeder to turn. He has about an hour.
Howdy Y’all! We did the things this mornin’ plus we went to Aldi to purchase some cheese cause they have good cheese. Nappage was needed after I et more than I should have. I have pretty much gotten everything together for my weekend jaunt. Got the schedule for the conference via email. A whole lot of stuff crammed in there but I expected that. I will also be well fed as well as learnt up as the food at Honey Creek is always great. Now it’s time to see whatup on teh intartoobz.
