I grew up on the West coast of England; I don’t start worrying about rain unless the house actually floods… and if it floods here, I suggest you start gathering the animals 2 by 2. There was a lot of water on some of the low bits of the road, but nothing to worry about. Just wet.
I think today we’re similar levels of nasty weather, but over the weekend it’ll be worse up here than down BooFae’s area; it looks like the worst bit may hit Sunday.
Called in the good wine shop on the way home, so I have some as bribes thanks gifts for supervisors[1]. I also got some mead for former landlady’s birthday, because she has what she has described as a medieval banquet table, which obviously requires some mead to quaff at it, plus I got some chocs from the posh farm shop.
It was going smoothly all day until…
Fritz: “It’s good today, we might get out early.”
Me: “You’ve doomed us.”
Fritz: “Umm, I think I did.”
And sure enough, we got avalanched with stuff at the end, including 8 totes that had double labels, so naturally the Sort Aisle sent them to the wrong place. But that was done, and there weren’t any damages, so I was out before 10. I stopped at Ace for vermin food, Teeter for rainbow trout, and the ABC store for brandy and gin(Plymouth). Spot supervised my post shower squeegee-ing, as is now his custom. Brunch was tiki style oatmeal with dried mango, creme of coconut, elemakule tiki bitters, and Yam Jam seasoning. But the Good Ice is made, laundry is in the dryer, so naptime.
Not necessarily, airports can change their codes with the IATA (International Air Transport Association), but often don’t as the code is so well-established that to do so could cause more problems than solutions. For example, Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport is the ‘official’ name, but the code is still DCA. An example of a change was when Idlewild in New York (IDL) changed names to John F. Kennedy and formally changed to JFK.
Is he a Blueberry, as clueless as he seems to be about tempting fate like that?
Just about the time we think we’ve convinced Kasya to leave paper items such as tissue boxes alone (see earlier remarks about tempting fate), now Buddy is determined that that tissue box must die. The chunko jerk could at least wait until I’m not within a foot of his prey!
When we tempted fate by leaving Otis home alone with the dog door unblocked, I put my yarn and my tablet and whatever I thought he might decided to “play” with out of reach. I forgot my tissue box - he’s taken 3 so far, and the other day was the 4th. Stoopit dog. No idea where he took it - others were shredded across the back yard, but not this last one. I suspect it’s somewhere in the woods, probably with the toys that he takes outside but doesn’t bring back in.
Idiot dog.
Laundry took till 2. At that point, I didn’t want to mess with planting, so I didn’t. That’s a tomorrow chore.
Happy Firday! The weather will be beautiful here so the kitties will be very pleased with some open window time.
Thanks everyone for the well wishes - my stomach thankfully returned to normal on Tuesday. Also good because it was a super busy week at work and I just couldn’t be down for an extended period of time.
There was a bit of excitement with a lost dog. Long story short, a sweet lost dog kept showing up but proved to be quite the escape artist and refused to stay in anyone’s yard. After catching him wandering down the street three times yesterday, a neighbor gave me her garage code to put the dog inside her house. I got to meet a new-to-me neighbor and she fortunately found a post by the dog’s owner! Dog was safely returned and hopefully now under full lockdown.
Stupid question based on having watched Clarkson’s Farm - I thought farm shops were supposed to only carry local stuff. Does that vary by region?
Hope you flipped it the bird properly on your way out.
The wurst[1] thing about this afternoon’s liver ultrasound was the fasting. I had to stop eating/drinking 8 hours before the 1pm procedure, which would have meant 5am: I couldn’t eat that early if I tried, so I waited until afterwards. I usually only have a protein shake and some Gatorade zero in the morning, but skipping those kind of messed with me! The procedure itself went smoothly, and I was back in the car by 1:20. I had no idea how long it might take, so I’d told work that I should be back online by 3pm: I took advantage of having some extra time, and got my early voting done (since I won’t be working in my home precinct on election day). I’d hoped that I’d be able to but I knew I’d be pretty hungry by then, so I actually thought ahead and remembered to take a banana when I left the house! Yay, me! I ate it while I was on line. Early voting went smoothly, too: just 25 minutes from when I joined the line (which was outside; happily it’s a beautiful day) to when I walked out of the library. I got home shortly after 2pm and finally had a protein shake, and now I’m back to “normal.” I’ll make some actual food for dinner, though, vs my usual popcorn.
I finished Wallace & Gromit on Wednesday evening:
I’m very happy with them.
Right now the only Lego I have that need to be put together are holiday sets: I have 18 of them (including 11 that will be re-builds from previous years), and will start assembling them on 11/01. I don’t really decorate until the day after Thanksgiving, but if I wait that long to get started on them I might not be done in a month! LOL!
This should be a nicely quiet weekend, and will include a lot of reading: I have a new issue of The New Yorker to skim, a David Baldacci book to finish, and the latest Inspector Gamache novel to start (#21 was released on Tuesday). I have no other plans, except possibly meeting my BFFs for lunch on Sunday. HusbandBFF is having his prostate removed on Wednesday, and wants to have one of his favorite meals before surgery: coincidentally the restaurant also has one of my favorite meals (but only at lunchtime), so the plan is for me to join them. The variable is that they’re having some work done on the stone steps to their front door: the contractors are there today and will return tomorrow, and are saying they might need Sunday to finish up. We’ll see.
I’ve taken Wednesday off work and will be going to the hospital with them and their 25-year-old son (my “nephew”), who’ll be flying in from Texas. HusbandBFF doesn’t really need an entourage, but this way my nephew and I can divide and conquer: HusbandBFF will need a lot of attention, and WifeBFF will need some help getting around (and a little attention, herself: she’s pretty practical and procedure-savvy, but her hubby is having major surgery).
Almost time to relocate to the main floor couch for dinner and some reading. I seem to be in the midst of a chicken pot pie phase (they come and go), so the nuking of a small Marie Callender’s pie shall commence shortly.
Thanks…and right?!?
I actually got the results already in MyChart: findings seem to indicate fatty liver disease – no shock – and some gallbladder sludge (Dr. Google says that could turn into gallstones, which are actually fairly common after bariatric surgery; some surgeons prophylactically remove gallbladders when they perform gastric bypasses). Both are things I either had or likely had before/shortly after surgery, which was almost five years ago, so the best explanation for the sudden enzyme spikes remains the statin. Nothing scary or worrisome in there at the moment: I’ll wait until my doc has a chance to review the results, and see what she says/if she wants to change the current plan.
Sounds like DC/around here!
Everything is awesome.
Did you go? Is it a sprain? I hope you’re on the way to healing!
Which is exactly why I’ve lived in this house for almost five months and haven’t used the dishwasher yet*. At some point I guess I should confirm that it works.
*I haven’t used the oven or stovetop yet, either, but that’s just because I have a perfectly good microwave!
Howdy Y’all! I got the things done over to the church house and, because I am a good person I went into the Parish hall kitchen and emptied the dishwasher cause I knew there were clean dishes in it. I also gassed up my vehicle whilst out as I was down to a quarter tank. The rest of the day has been spent in high RDOS inactivity. We did the leftover hog trough buffet for sup. Tomorrow I shall get my chikin livers!
Taters hope the surgery goes well. Enjoy the time with your son and Zeus.
BooFae and Nuts hope the storm is not too bad.
Knotty hope you get some answers from the doc-in-a-box re your foot.
WetOne I occasionally venture out at night, but I agree that jammy time by six-thirty p.m. is the norm. Then again, when I am in da cave jammy pants (short or long) and tshirt are the standard garb.
52 glad you feel better. Yay for happy endin’ to the lost doggy story!
Oopsie glad the liver ultrasound Glad you got to early vote. Real food is a good idea tonight. Hope all goes well with HusbandBFF’s surgery on Wednesday.
boo fae yes, I’m glad the Beefcarver was so very busy because I didn’t have high expectations for a meal there and my late lunch was so very delicious. The only thing that is a little disappointing is that Hubs didn’t get a last meal at Beefcarver. Oh well. I got a ribeye steak out of the freezer this morning and Hubs was happy to be able to grill it. Bella will be here in about 2 hrs (I wrote this at 11am this morning thinking they would be here at 1pm as they previously said; they didn’t leave their house until 2:45pm) as Daughter and DG are going to Chicago for a wedding. I’m sure Bella will enjoy the steak as well.
Watched the Rhythm Dance and the first 6 women in the Short Program at the Grand Prix de France. Then I went to Kroger and let Hubs sleep in as our grocery list only had 9 different items on it so it was easy for me to handle. After groceries put away, I made a chili cheese omelette with DKB toast. Filtered 2-1/2 gallons of water. Shortly after 3, Hubs and I met Daughter and DG and Bella at Kroger gas. While I filled up Daughter’s car, she put Bella in my car and seat belted her in. Then they took off and I filled my car and Hubs car. Total was $100.06. With the dollar/gallon discount it cost 3.799/gallon. Hubs went to Kroger after the gas station as he forgot to put yogurt on the grocery list and he picked up another green banana for me. Bella and I dropped my car off at home then we went for a 1.7 mile walk. I finished watching the Women’s Short Program. Made a coney island with Hubs chili, diced onions, cheddar cheese and a little mustard. Then had vanilla ice cream with sliced banana and Ghiradelli chocolate sauce.
metal mouse I take a highlighter and highlight each item on the list as it is put in the grocery cart. Makes it very easy to see what hasn’t been acquired yet. Also, thanks for the explanation on the airport codes.
I noticed that too this week.
wet one that’s a good question although not sure if you mean Beefcarver or Redcoat. Beefcarver is closing it’s doors forever at the end of the day on Sunday. The local news stations had done stories showing that the line at Beefcarver at 5pm was around the building so I think that peeps thought that if they had a very early dinner or possibly late lunch that they could avoid the crowd. At least that’s what Hubs thought. The hostess at Redcoat said that a number of people who came in mentioned that they weren’t waiting in line at the Beefcarver so just came 2 miles up the road like we did.
Hubs took a long nap so when he got up, he made bacon and eggs that he shared with Bella for second dinner.
Since the figure skating starts at 12:30pm in France tomorrow, that means 6:30am EDT so I’ll be going to bed shortly. I just want to watch the new TV show, Newlyweds, starring Tea Leoni & Tim Daly. Jamie Lee Curtis is a co-creator executive producer and recurring guest star.
Evening all. Got a good workout at the gym and some soccer practice in, so ready for tomorrow. Coach at 8:00am and 9:30am and referee at 12:30pm and maybe later, we’ll see how I’m doing, so a busy Sattiday looks to be in store. At least the weather is staying nice, cool but clear tomorrow with highs in the mid-70’sF.
Nut, sounds like there will be a lot of grateful (and slightly tipsy) folks due to your gift-giving.
FCM, someday those missing toys will return to take revenge, probably by using the tissue boxes…
52, glad your doing better, and that the slippery hound was finally corralled and given back to his owner. And the scale today took 2lbs off, so it’s back in my favor now…
Oopsie, well-played. And good timing too, both voting and eating wise. And Wallace and Gromit look marvelous. very much on-character. Best wishes to HusbandBFF on his surgery.
Cat Glove, I just take a pen and draw a line through the item it as it goes in my cart. Fairly light shopping today, next Friday will be both the November stock-up and Halloween Candy time, so expect I’ll be there longer.
And it’s 9pm, my alarm will go off at 6:30am sharp, so won’t be staying up late tonight. Will correspond tomorrow when I can. Take care all.
I am hopelessly behind again, but I’ll check in briefly.
We hit below-freezing temperatures last night and will do so again tonight. Daytime highs are hitting low 60Ferrets, so that’s ok. Sunny, crisp and cool.
Still haven’t seen my ballot clear the elections office. I’ll keep checking, though, and I have no reason to believe it will be lost.
The leg is much better! I can now lift it under its own power with only a little pain. I expect continued improvement and have begun some exercises to strengthen those muscles.
Guitar is getting incrementally better, although I had to skip a couple of days due to other work-related commitments that took more time than I expected. I’ll be back to a practice session tomorrow. It’s nice to play again.
The new computer battery is in, but the computer guy can’t get to it until Tuesday/Wednesday. I hope to keep the machine limping along till then. It seems to get confused when I boot up in the mornings as to whether or not to look to battery or plug-in power, and that’s caused a moment or two of anxiety. I’ve gotten some wild error messages.
Funny Ollie story: I let him out for a wee a couple hours ago, and when I opened the door, he shot off toward a tree, bristling and barking his head off. I couldn’t see what had so captivated his attention. But as he sniffed around the base of the tree, I saw a pine cone fall. Or rather, be thrown. Then came another. And another and another and another. Worked out that the resident squirrel was tactically hurling all his (her?) pine cones at Ollie’s head. Didn’t hit him, but came close! I didn’t know squirrels even did this. I never did spot the squirrel, but I know it lives in that tree. Ollie finally decided he was safer in the house.
I’ll try for a post tomorrow with more personal comments – everyone has posted such interesting things! For now, my brain is whimpering for an early bedtime. Hugs all around.
Today’s shift got off on a truly shitty start, but at least we got out relatively early - I’m already home and in what passes for PJs it’s also known as a birthday suit.
I’m too whupped to go into detail, but Lil Miss Hoity Toity was being even more of a passive-aggressive beeeeyyyyyotch than usual, and the other Team Lead did absolutely nothing - in fact made things worse - until S.M. stepped in and, after reading both of them the riot act, took over their position, next to me on the prep line.
Lo and behold, everything was smooth as buttah after that, whereas before, it was constant confusion, repeated pizzas, and snippy, well, snippiness.
It’s all about communication, people.
Oh, and Other Team Lead also burned the shit outta himself later, and actually left to go get checked out at a Doc In A Box … and he is the opposite of a baby, so it must’ve been really bad.
Up, caffeinated, and sheveled. Off to heave. It’s my Firday. It’s currently 50 degrees Ferret Height(10.0 Centipedes)
And dinner tonight was rainbow trout, homemade rice pilaf, and salad with a martini, for those keeping score.
Morning. Tis the calm before the storm- quite literally. Winds are due to hit in about 2 hours.
Nah, it’s not a regional thing so much as by shop; farm shops pretty much have to carry some local produce otherwise they’re not really doing it right, but there’s nothing stopping them from stocking stuff from all over and I don’t know if there’s any actual rule about proportions. ‘Local’ here may mean Scottish made, but it’s actually normal for larger farm shops to have a selection of imports from smaller companies and unusual products.
In the case of Clarkson’s, cos of the show they’re presumably making a point of it being local to the area, but that’s not a rule or anything. In fact his branded stuff is widely available at other farm shops around the country. I’ve actually not watched it though cos the guy really annoys me.
Anyway, I need to go shower and stuff, I don’t want to get on the bus in my jammies and I need to check around the garden before I go to make sure stuff’s not going to blow away.
Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN 'Tis 45 Amurrkin out and clear with a predicted high of 76 and sunny. The big item on today’s agenda is to go to the hole in the wall meat 'n three and get my chikin livers. We shall do that at lunch for today’s main need to feed. My DAWGS are on a bye week, so I shall watch/keep up with various other kolledge tackleball games and indulge in RDOS sloth, as is my wont. The excitatement of our lives knows no boundaries!
MetalMouse that’s quite the schedule! At least the weather will be nicer today.
Bright Tree glad the leg is better. Glad you are enjoyin’ the guitar. Hope the 'puter limps along until the battery gets replaced. I got the batter replaced in my laptop in June, I think. Poor Ollie! Glad he survived the aerial pine cone bombardment.
shoe good for S.M. steppin’ in and readin’ the riot act. Hope the Other Team Lead’s burn is not too bad.
Nuts hope the storm/winds don’t put a damper on the big bday celebration. Have fun!
Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then I suppose I should purtify. I won’t put on attire suitable for bein’ amongst the great unwashed until close to time to leave.
