(Old) A Chilly (Well, To Me) MMP

So have gymed, soccered, and eaten so the three tasks for the afternoon have been met. Evening will hopefully be a quiet one, have the tackleball game on Amazon Prime and listening on another window while browsing the rest of the internet. Down to 57F and will cool to 44F later tonight.

OOpsie, sorry you’re losing an employee, but sounds like he’s going somewhere he feels a lot more comfortable. Hopefully you can replace him with someone who loves that job just as much. Happy ultrasound and hope it’s not a case of liver wurst… Hope you’ve made it home by now.

FCM, handling 5-7 6-year olds for an hour of soccer just about strains me to the limit, have no idea how teachers with a bunch of kids manages them.

JtC, don’t do too much night driving either, just not as comfortable with it as when I was younger. Sorry for James, but kudos to you for being there for him and his sister.

Cat Glove, sorry you couldn’t dine out as planned, but I wouldn’t have stood for 90 minutes just to be seated either. Sounds like you found a quite acceptable substitute. Just looked up the menu for Redcoat Tavern and if I ever get up that way it’ll be on my list of stopping places.

And finishing off my evening half-pint of Ice Cream (Halo Top Chocolate Caramel Brownie) then back to tackleball. See y’all on Firday.

Up from naptime. Spot continues to nap under my bed. Having a Mai Tai, watching Canes hockey. Dinner tonight is Blackened Chicken, cheesy potato rounds with pepperjack, and green beans with peppers and onions.

Depends. Iron Chef cooking that, good. 21 year old dude cooking that, bad.

You know she printed out the entire InterWeb at home.

Yes.

OK, that is awesome.

Somebody hit a deer a half mile up the road. Across the street from the EMS station.

Yeah, not doing that again.

Screaming and chugging bottles of prosseco.

Yoga’d, showered, ate dinner, and now, I’m enjoying an old fashioned and watching Blood on the Clocktower with a sleepy Chloé. As soon as Squeaky finishes his shower and turns in his phone, she’s going in her crate.

FCM What did you do with the shrimps after the air fryer. I’ve been on a kick of shrimp rolls, kinda like lobster rolls, but with shrimps. Mix up a little sauce of lemon juice, s+p, mayo, sometimes sour cream, maybe some celery seed, toss the shrimp and into a hot dog bun (top split, of course) and then a squeeze of lemon.

Now off to bed with me, I’ve got a 1.5 hour drive each way scheduled for tomorrow. Anybody know a good lunch spot in Syracuse?

You can drink once the sun’s over the yardarm. My boat has a very short mast.

Is Boom Shakalaka Ariel’s sibling? Secret identity? And where does “Shakalaka” come from? (Horse names always make me think of Spike Jones’s rendition of Rossini’s William Tell Overture.)

Spaghetti-and-scrambled-egg burritos? Hmmmm. . . .

Up, caffeinated, and sheveled. Off to heave. It’s currently 42 degrees Ferret Height(5.556 Centipedes). Just once I’d like to sort my laundry without having to utter the phrase “Stop rubbing my scrotum”

Morning, mumpers! It’s currently 10c/50f with a predicted high of 11c/52f and cloudy. Weather app says “It’s probably a fucking good day to stay the fuck in bed. Today will probably fucking suck.”

WetOne Ariel is just beautiful!

Mollie Chloé is adorable, that little face says you’d forgive her anything

JtC you are one of the kindest people ever, you’re so good to be looking after James’ sister while she gets to spend that last bit of precious time with him.

Cat_Glove that sounds like an excellent lunch, and perhaps the Beefcarver did you favour being so busy.

Yesterday was a fairly decent irk day, stuff got done and a major headache has been dealt with. I had a reasonably good trip home and got some sofa time with Blossom while 'im indoors was making dinner. We watched the last episode of Slow Horses so now I can read the Café Society thread about what really happened

We’re forecast bad weather for the next couple of days - Storm Austen is on the way today (I thought it had already been and gone, but apparently not), closely followed by Storm Boelo which is barrelling across the Atlantic or so I’m told.

I’ve got a meeting this morning with the person who requested a Senior Admin Buddy, it’s someone I worked with a while ago so not quite sure what she wants to talk about but we’re meeting for a cuppa this morning and I’ll find out what she wants. I’ve also made plans to meet our ex-team manager who was here on secondment but left due to illness. She went back to her previous role, then moved to a new job in the Business School. It’ll be nice to catch up with her, she has a gorgeous cat called Tilly who could easily pass as Blossom’s mini-me.

Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN ‘Tis 48 Amurrkin out and clear with a predicted high of 76 and sunny. Gotta say I have enjoyed the Fall-like weather we’ve had this week. I shall take care of candle and other duties over to the church house this mornin’. The rest of the day will be spent in high RDOS sloth. There are various leftovers in da fridge that will be tonight’s sup. However, what I really want is fried chikin livers thanks to JtC. Perhaps that will happen tomorrow. There is a hole in the wall meat and three that makes good ones and is open on Sattidy.

Cat_Glove sorry y’all didn’t get to eat at Beefcarver, but it sounds like a very nummy lunch was had at the Redcoat Tavern. Plus, Bella got a burger bite, so it’s all win-win!

shoe hope you had a decent meal and that Monkey got his outside time. Also, may the current ickiness stay away from you.

VanGo hope the drive is not too bad today. Also hope you find a good place for lunch.

Herald sketties and scrambled aig burritos sounds like the ultimate bachelor food!

doggio “stop rubbin’ my scrotum” is not a thing I have ever had to say outloud. OYKW knows to never stop.

BooFae glad you got to have sofa time with Blossom and loll about whilst 'im indoors made supper. Hope the meetin’s are not too painful.

Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then I suppose I should purtify and don attire acceptable for bein’ amongst the great unwashed. I have had to do this far too often this week!

Happy Firday Y’all!

Afternoon (I started typing this in the morning but this time I planned cos I knew I wouldn’t hit submit in time. Go me)

As promised, 'tis very wet today. Nevertheless, I will be heading out shortly, cos I need to acquire some assorted goodies. Partly cos I’m going to my former landlady’s birthday tomorrow- it’s an age that ends in an ‘0’ so she’s making a deal of it.

Also cos I want to bring some in for a couple of people at irk who really went out of their way to be helpful; apparently they will be cancelling my ID badge at the end of next week, though I still don’t have a viva date. I assume I’ll be just picking up a temporary one on the day. I was planning on going in anyway on Moanday because someone else will be giving their viva talk and a) she’s a friend, if not an especially close one and b) her supervisor is one of my examiners.

At the moment, we have an amber weather warning for tomorrow[1]. I was intending to go to the party on public transport so I can join in freely on the toasting, but the trains may be a bit screwy.

  1. Thanks to somebody wishing for strong winds, JtC ↩︎

My problem is astigmatism - oncoming headlights have flares that mess with my night vision. I have to keep too much focus on the lines on the right side of the road. Guess I should look up whether cataract surgery will affect that.

But I get the deer thing. I see way too many deer carcasses on the side of the road, and having hit 2 in the past, I don’t trust them. Not at all.

Pretty much the same for me. Our current one is 22 years old and I’m amazed that it continues running. But when it dies, I won’t be in a rush to replace it. I can hand-wash for 2 while shopping at my leisure rather than rushing out to find an immediate replacement. Truth be told, I want to replace my entire kitchen, but $$$. I’d get an estimate but I don’t want to be pestered by salesfolk when I’m pretty sure we can’t afford it just yet.

OMG! I’m drooling at the mere thought!!

Just dumped them on the plate with cole slaw and corn bread. They were so good, we didn’t even want cocktail sauce.

I’m going to venture a wild guess that you direct the phrase at Spot and not your roomie… :open_mouth:

Today started with 47 Ferrets outside and 68 inside. Both of us neglected to check pellet status last night and the stove burned out. So my first chore was refilling the hopper and it’s putting out warm air, so at least this room is losing some chill.

Being Firday, it’s laundry day. It’s forecast to reach low 60s - I might or might not futz outside. I decided to widen the border around the path in the back - that will use up a bunch of liriope. Whether I do that today or not is a matter for debate.

That’s pretty much the agenda. Guess we’ll see what surprises await.

Happy Firday!!

Up at 7am, have pilled and dressed and will shortly head out to do the Firday shopping (I have a little list, let none of them be missed) and then home to break fast. Nothing much on the agenda except soccer practice at 5:30pm, so we’ll see if I can keep myself amused until then. Another beautiful fall day, 48F heading to 78F and no rain to be seen.

doggio, wouldn’t surprise me. I know one guy here who handles groups of 30-40 4-5 year olds and can actually get them to sit down and listen to him for more than 20 seconds…I believe he is actually a warlock…

VanGO, safe drive today. Know nothing about Syracuse so hopefully another Mumper can provide dining advice.

boo fae, batten down the hatches and hope you don’t lose power during the stormy weather. Hope the meetings go well.

Nut, sounds like your getting the same weather as boo fae is expecting, keep calm and stay dry.

A bit pricey but low-calorie (490kcal per pint) and quite good, IMHO.

Ditto. Unsure I want to know if there’s a 3rd option or not…

And about time to get my stuff together and see how clogged the morning roads are. Back later but have a good Firday.

Good morning. I’m off to Dolly Parton International Airport in about an hour to fetch Mrs Magill. I think I’ve kept the house reasonably clean in her absence. We shall see. All I know is that Chloé will go apeshit when she realizes we’re at the airport. She spent the night at an airport hotel in Boston, so I hope she’s gotten enough sleep. She has a long day in front of her. The High School is playing their last away game in Clarksville which is about ninety minutes away without traffic, and they can’t leave before four (the busses need to take home from school first), and they’ll have to go through Nashville. The smart money is on two to three hours to get there. She and Squeaky should get home around midnight.

Well, she is a very good puppy.

Good morning.

It was 35F when I woke up this morning, but it has warmed to 45F with low clouds. We’ll have the usual morning clouds and afternoon sun, with a daytime high of 55F.

I give a lot of credit to people who can wrangle large groups of kids. I don’t think I could.

My night vision has certainly gotten better since the cataract surgery, and the halos from oncoming headlights have all but disappeared. I ordered some cheapie sunglasses for overnight delivery last night, so I’m prepared for leaving the office after today’s YAG surgery. I wouldn’t have picked these glasses up in person, but they’re better than nothing, and I won’t feel bad about losing them since I paid less than 20 bucks for a pair.

I did laundry yesterday, watered the plants, and got some adulting done too.

I’ll hop in the shower in about an hour or so, then drive down to Safeway to fuel up my Jeep. Between driving up to Federal Way, home, and then to my son’s place, we’ll put about 80 miles on the Jeep today, and the last time I checked, I think I had less than half a tank.

Oopsie, I’m sorry you have to go through the hiring process again.

I guess I should get going. I need to finish tidying the kitchen. I just realized I need to pick up some big Ziploc bags to store the pups’ food for our weekend trip. So, I’ll do that after fueling up.

Please take care of yourselves.

Mrs. L.A. had a broken molar extracted yesterday morning, and she slept for four hours when she got home. Thus, she got up at about a quarter past three. The coffee pot usually wakes me up just before five, but the coffee was already made at that point. I didn’t auto-wake until 05:10 or so.

Anyway, it’s 42 Ferret Height here.

Good morning. We’re probably going to the doc-in-a-box. The swelling in my left foot and ankle has gone down a little, but not much.

The folks on the radio say this year’s baseball World Series will be won by a team that has never won one before. That’s because neither team has won before.

I finished the Get the Beat jigsaw puzzle, and I started on Slang We Used. The GTB was an assortment of pop album cover pictures. My hasty count was about 42 albums, of which I have about 30 in my music collection. White Mountain Puzzles mailed me a new catalog. Oh, boy!

Remember deer whistles? They were little plastic things you’d stick on the front bumper. The wind from driving would make an ultrasonic noise that would allegedly ward off any deer who would otherwise run in front of your car. They didn’t work.

Gone are the days when I could carry my list in my head. Plus with Food Lion’s Spend-$50-get-a-$20-coupon deal, I keep track so I get as close to $50 without going way over. I take advantage of this to stock up on non-perishables that I might not bother with otherwise.

First load is in the washer. FCD has run to ACE to get some screws for small hinges. I swear, he has a gazillion different wood screws and machine screws in standard and metric, many diameters, many lengths, but he NEVER has the size he needs for the build he’s doing. I think that’s Murphy’s Law of Hardware.

When it warms a bit more, I’ll haul one of the carts to the back yard and plant a buttload of liriope to widen the border. With luck it’ll take the time of a washer load. We shall see.

The pellet stove has added 4 Ferrets to the inside temp so it’s quite comfortable. Interesting how 68 in the summer is refreshing but 68 in the winter is freezing? Or is it just me?? It can’t be just me…

Herald Boom Shakalaka is Ariel’s registered name. She is registered with the Jockey Club (thoroughbred registry). Her barn name is Ariel.

Kitten Mitten why was the restaurant so crowded at 2:15? I thought everyone ate lunch at noon.

I have no problem driving at night but rarely go out at night because pj time is 6:30 or earlier

I’ve only lived in places with a dishwasher a couple of times in my life. It’s pretty quick to hand wash for one.

Up, caffeinating, breakfasted and fixing to do KP. I’ll do a load of laundry today and submit the government forms I did yesterday, but otherwise, RDOS.

Y’all have a great day!

Unseasonably warm this week. 69F at 1100. Just as well, as the heat is still not working properly.

Fed and exercised (weight day!). Managed to finish the NYT Friday puzzle, which is the first time in several weeks.

We’re apparently going out to brunch on Sunday with the niece and her husband. Otherwise a couple of quiet days ahead.

Back from shopping, also mailed a return to Amazon (properly wrapped, taped and labeled, doggio) and will rest from my labors for a bit before venturing out to the gym for a bit. I’ve been working it this week to go to the gym later so I can change and go straight to soccer practice then home for dinner, so will probably try to do that again. Got one game to referee tomorrow, probably will grab another, so that and coaching twice will make for a full day at the fields. At least the weather will be nice.

Mollie, wasn’t aware that BNA was being renamed, but I approve of the choice. And that’s going to be a long bus ride for sure. Hope she can sleep in Saturday…

Taters, hope surgery goes as planned. Best wishes.

Flyboy, hope the Missus is doing well, still have all my originals (outside of my wisdom teeth) and hope to hang onto them for awhile yet.

Knots, hope the ankle/foot is nothing serious.

FCM, never trusted myself without a list, and even then I often need to make a second trip for something I didn’t spot my first time making it. Since I usually am there every Monday and Friday it’s usually not necessary, I can get the item my next trip.

No doubt about it.

Not just you. I usually get up with the temperature about 67-68F inside and feel cold almost immediately…of course, since I sleep in my birthday suit, that is to be expected…

Cookie, hope the scale is in your corner (the lying (*&^)( one at the gym says I’ve gained 3lbs this week).

And onward to the Firday webcomics and whatever else catches my interest (at this second, my bladder is signalling I’d better be interested in it…bye!!)
