How does one move raspberries? I think I should not have planted them so close to the fence - I want to get to the other side of them. Or maybe I should just espalier them - they certainly grow enough in one season.
Also not sure where I would put them, unless I put them in the middle of the grassy area. At least they would provide some shade.
Looks like we’re going to L.A. next October to get on a cruise ship which will go through the Panama Canal. We should arrive a few days ahead of time to help get our internal clocks set, so maybe we can visit Griffith Observatory. Speaking of time, if we fly home immediately afterwards, we’d get one day before the clocks change in Europe. Might be enough of a reason to stay in the U.S. a few days longer.
We finally got a bit of rain yesterday. Today started out chilly with some nice colors in the leftover clouds, and then it cleared up. Tomorrow’s supposed to be a bit rainy, then Saturday was supposed to be rainy, but who knows.
It went better today, heaving wise. There was the usual avalanche of last minute clerking stuff, but it almost all got out. The Supreme Shouting Officer was still shouting. The damages and retapes were too bad, I was out by 11:30, and did my Senior Day shopping.
< Squeegees shower with bathroom door open >
< Spot walks in, hops in tub > Aww, he doesn’t mind getting his feet we- “DON’T DRINK THE FILTH WATER YOU IDJIT!!!*”.
Lunch was soup(Progresso 'shrooms and barley) and sandwich(grilled cheese with Alid everything sourdough and pepperjack). Now it’s naptime.
This scheme makes sense now.
OMG it did!
They really do need to give out lollipops for successfully adulting.
But weasels are ineligible to vote.
Somebody around here has got to have a Ouija board.
It just means that instead of me having to actively go and track my ballot on the elections board website, I could perhaps sign up and have notifications “pushed” to me automatically.
there have been fish losses in the home and office tank. yest. ups (thank you dogbutler) delivered new fish buddies for my home tank. there are now 11 wee pygmy corys zipping around the tank.
they are just delightful and they had a lovely time making friends with each other. they are schooling together nicely. there is a difference in size with the new ones being younger.
for the office tank… i would like to get 3 more as they do like to be in the six or more school. i’m at 5 now. there is one that is just huge compared to the others. depends on the weather on when i get more.
although the company i just ordered from was very good and fast. they had a warming thing in the box that i enjoyed after the fish were acclimated and in the tank.
the plants are growing well now, giving the peppers some nice hiding spots.
mollie, chloe is an adorable skeleton. i’m reckoning that glows in the dark.
Good afternoon everyone, yesterday felt like a good day to do nothing but smoke and stitch, so that’s what I did. I seriously needed the downtime.
Today I had my quarterly well-baby check up and then went into town to vote. I stopped at the old farts home to see James, but he was sleeping so I just left some cookies and left. His “baby” sister is with him now, they’ve made up a daybed for her which was nice and I’ve got a list of things she likes so I can bring dinners as long as needed.
They will not be home cooked, though. Last night our dishwasher pump (just barely three years old) died so I’m washing dishes by hand. We will have pizza tonight and sister will have an order of fried chicken livers, fries and coleslaw from the diner.
Hubs ordered a new pump and it should be here on Saturday, swapping it out shouldn’t be that much of an ordeal as long as we have the proper tools. Happily, there are plenty of hardware stores in WV.
Same. It was really helpful while Hubs was in charge of meals, otherwise we would have lived on burritos, 'sketty and scrambled eggs.
She is so lovely that the words can be repeated again
I have never pilled a dog, but have learned that intimidation works well for catz. Our fuzzbutts know that if Mom wants to put ick stuff in their mouths, Mom is going to do it so might as well relax. Of course I always show them the bribe before giving them meds, that way its right there as soon as I’m done torturing them.
I’m glad I was able to entertain everyone, it was hysterically funny while it was happening. 17 year olds can be SO dramatic. (I certainly wasn’t that dramatic when I was that age, and if I was, all of my issues were IMPORTANT!!!)
While he was hunched over his computer (couldn’t stand up straight) telling me all of his problems, I looked the manufacturer up on my computer and read the instructions. That’s how I learned about the removal cream, which was still in the bottom of the box along with the wadded up instructions.
I heard about that, TC friend said one touched down in Humboldt. I also saw pics of golf ball sized hailstones in Mesa and mature Palo Verde trees blown down in Black Canyon City. While some folks will say “at least they got some water” most of that water ran off because the ground was too dry to absorb it.
I’m glad your folks came through the storm OK, it seems as though the storms back there are getting more severe than I was used to.
Cute card. Dang that the pic line is still in. I really hope this resolves without you losing more flesh.
I do understand!
I used to love it when I got “assigned” to cleaning out storage rooms or even weeding library shelves.
I will confess to having a bit of a meltdown when I learned that one of the secretaries had two file cabinets full of email printouts. She didn’t just print them once, she printed every replay and “forward all”.
Well, laundry load done, bedding changed, trash is out and stuff for soccer is ready, so for me a fairly active day. Off to the gym for a couple hours before coaching, then home for some more RDOS duty.
Cat Glove, so you have a good feed today and time with BF next week–good planning!
FCM, glad painting is halfway there. My dishwasher is about 85% full, probably will get it’s work in tomorrow.
Dicey, sounds like a nice trip, did the Panama Canal thing a couple years ago and enjoyed it, just budget for the time changes (sounds like you have planned a few days in LA, that’s smart).
Rocky, glad the fish are getting along…now if Americans could…
JtC, hope the dishwasher is an easy fix, having to wash dishes by hand brings back memories of my youth…
And off to the sweating place. Catch up with y’all this evening.
When my nursing team would do immunization clinics for our local Guard and Reserve units I used to give out lollipops to those big brave fellows. Funniest thing, none of them ever argued with us about whether they had to be vaccinated and some of the vaccines were nasty ones, but there always was a sergeant who went first and then stayed and looked out over the room glaring at any one who hesitated.
in the job of yore, there was a vp of the firm that was… quite something. when one of his exec assistants left, she had a handbook made up on his various qualities and how to best deal with them.
one was, make 5 copies of anything you give him. anything and everything client related went to central file, absolute, must happen. many people, most esp. any admin, kept a copy in their file cabinet as well.
for this vp, you made the central file copy (thankfully those drawers were locked). you made a copy for your file (lock that as well) then made a copy for him. then 2 more copies for him, because he will lose the copy you gave him and the other one. he might hold onto the third one.
his office was the talk of the office. the usual everything but the kitchen sink.
one time as a joke i had a picture of a sink enlarged and mounted on foam board. i put it in his office in the huge pile of presentation boards that was stacked all over his office.
months later he came up to me with the board, dead serious, asking me where i had found the sink, he wanted to order it for his personal kitchen remodel.
Ditto. Spent a good chunk of the day standing topside with a kimwipe tucked into the back of my ball cap so it hung down and shielded my neck from the sun, taking pictures of our gunboat escort and of the cruise ships that went past with people lining the rails to take pictures of us. On the other hand, my sister-in-law was on one of those ships going through the canal during a Panamanian civil war sort of thing, while passengers were skeet shooting off the fantail. Fortunately none of the rebels hiding in the jungle decided to shoot back. . . .
I’ve been done for the day since 5pm (it’s currently 5:33pm), but traffic is ridiculous right now so I figured I’d catch up on the MMP before heading home. It might wind up being worse then, but hopefully not!
Another employee resigned today; this is the third one in five months. (Should I be taking this personally?! ) At least this one gave two weeks’ notice: the one who left in mid-August gave two days, and the one who left in late May gave zero notice. Anyway, this guy has been here for almost two years, doing some system administration, and he was never qualified/it hasn’t been the right position for him from the get-go (he was hired before I started; I have no idea how he got selected). He’s learned a lot and has done a fair job, but he’s burned out and is going back to being a service tech on aircraft carriers. He’s super excited, and I’m happy for him. Between organic growth and resignations, though, I am seriously never going to be able to stop hiring!
Tomorrow I get to work from home, but only for the morning: I’m having a liver ultrasound in the early afternoon, because my liver enzymes have been elevated since June (two tests in a row, and they’re climbing). My doc thinks it might be the cholesterol med I started in December, so I’ve stopped taking that and will repeat the bloodwork in January (at which time she’ll likely put me on a different statin), but she also wants the ultrasound. Wheee.
I refer you both to my above statement.
Honest, I’m not fishing around for ideas: nothing in that area appeals to me. At least, not enough to go out of my way for. And not more than the idea of getting back on a plane and spending the rest of the week at home. Neither my friend nor I will even be renting a car: we’ll taxi from LAX to our Redondo Beach hotel on Saturday, walk to the venue for Sunday’s show, then taxi back to the airport the next day. And that Tuesday we shall be tired, but happy.
(Aaaand a Google Maps check shows that traffic is…almost exactly the same as it was when I started this post! Sigh. May as well face the music, and at least eventually get home.)
Howdy Y’all! I continue to still be alive. We went to Asia hog trough Buffet and upon return to da cave nappage occurred. 'Twas nice out this afternoon, so we had dirty martinis out beside the cee-mint pond. Some stoopid teevee has been watched and more is soon to be watched. There’s also ice cream to be eaten. Musn’t forget the important things!
Mollie how is it that you don’t spend most of your time givin’ Chloé skritches! That is all I would want to do! Such a keeyootie! The Hallowe’en garb is tres chic.
JtC a group of ladies at the church get together to stitch, knit, sew, etc. It is informally known as stitch ‘n bitch. I think it’s great you took a down day for you. How nice of you to see that James’ sis can get good dinners. Fried chikin livers would definitely make me happy.
BBBoo I have a mental picture of a bunch of burly, big, brave, badass soldiers happily suckin’ away on lollipops. It amuses me and warms my heart at the same time.
Herald much as I love to day drink, I think a shot of brandy at eight-forty-five a.m. would be a bit much.
Oopsie sorry you have to hire yet another person. However, sounds like the guy leavin’ is movin’ on to greener pastures, so good for him. Hope the commute home is not too awful.
SCAdian don’t remember your Mumper nickname. I had no input into Ariel’s names. Quite often registered horses’ names come from a combo of their dam and or sire and are chosen by the breeder. Ariel’s sire was named Boom.
My riding instructor has a Cavapoo puppy. Cutest darn thing.
I dunno - I think Reese’s - the BIG cups - are a better idea!
Daughter has taken the week off to do some hard-core cleaning, so she asked me to take the kids to their “dance” class. OMG, that teacher has more patience than any human should have. It wasn’t so much dancing as kids running around - ages 4-8. Worst part was driving home after dark. It reminded me of why I don’t drive after dark, even along roads I know well.
But I got home safely, ate a late supper, and I’m about to assume the recliner position. Gotta rest up for laundry day!
Driving here after dark was terrifying before I had my cataracts yeeted. Now I can see much better after dark, but I still do not trust deer and have only driven after dark a couple of times this year.
Once I stopped dealing with it 8 hours a day, I lost all patience with it in less than a month. They know who I am and their “security” checks are a joke.
George was named after both sire and dam, his “real” name is much more boring than Ariel’s.
That diner is great, just the right amount of greasy salt in every bite! The old farts home is across the street from Dairy Delight (burgers and ice cream) and down the street from Tudor’s (breakfast, heavy on the biskits and gravy)so it will be easy to feed sister. I’m sure she doesn’t want to leave, James doesn’t have a lot of time left. His stumps are white as are his hands and wrists.
Thank you for your kind words, its the least I can do for both of them.
I once allowed myself to be promoted to a position that included interviewing and hiring. Once.
I hope your ultrasound says all is good, drug interactions can be so weird.
I think I would have been out of there before I finished my probation period. I’d be twitching every time I walked by his office.
I didn’t have a dishwasher until I was thirty. I will never live without one again!
Well, we had a truly great lunch. But not the way we thought. As I was driving up the street and getting a little close to the Beefcarver (which was about 2:15), I could see that there was a line out the door and alongside the building. So, I told Hubs that when I turned onto the side street, he should jump out and get in line while I go park the car. I didn’t even try to go in the parking lot, I could see it was packed along with the sides of the street. I went about 3/4 of a block and someone must have just left as there was one spot open. So, I quickly turned around in someone’s driveway and copped the spot. Got out and started walking toward the Beefcarver but had only gotten about one car’s length when I saw Hubs walking back toward me and he was telling me to get back in the car. Turned out the line was wrapped around three sides of the building and he figured we’d have to wait in line for at least an hour and a half. He NOPED out of that.
So we went two miles up the road to the Redcoat Tavern. The parking lot was pretty packed but there were a few spots open. I said to Hubs that its likely other peeps decided not to wait at the Beefcarver and came here instead. The hostess confirmed it. She gave us a nice table and the waitress was even nicer. I had a glass of reisling and Hubs had a draft. For our appetizer I chose Cheese & Ale Spread with roasted garlic, chives, baguette & crackers. Yum. Hubs had the perch that came with French fries and coleslaw while I had ‘The Original Redcoat Special Hamburger’. It was a half pound with tomato, shredded lettuce, special sauce on a toasted sesame bun. I elected to add cheddar cheese and grilled onions. Since I couldn’t eat a half pound hamburger, I texted daughter if she would like half and she did, so I quickly walked over to waitress and asked her to have the cheese put on only half of the burger. They put in a flag indicating which side had the cheese. I believe it was the best burger I have ever had. So juicy and tasty! Hubs shared his coleslaw and it was very good. Hubs said it was the best coleslaw he had ever had. He only ate about 1/2 of his perch and maybe 1/3 of his fries so waitress brought 3 boxes and we boxed all the leftovers up. I saved a thumbnail bite of my half of the burger for Bella. Had to ask for a lid for the tartar sauce and she brought a container for the coleslaw. Hubs left a generous $16 tip.
Then we went to Daughter’s house and gave her the container with the half burger and some coleslaw. There wasn’t room in that container for the fries so she got out a rubbermaid container and took about 1/2 of the fries that were left. Then I took Bella for a walk. When we returned, Bella got her burger bite. After a few pets and scritches, we headed home. I had hoped to beat the rush hour but as we left at 4:30, nope. It took almost twice as long to get home than it normally takes when we drive either before or after rush hour (which seems to last from 3pm to at least 6:30 out her way).
Not hungry at all but I did have a small dish of vanilla ice cream with chocolate syrup and am now having a hot Chai Latte from a Kcup.
Plus, he was coughing last night AND someone else called out sick, plus I heard that S.M. said she wasn’t feeling well - it’s her day off - so OMG :
The trick @Mollie_Magill is to hold up an EVEN BETTER treat than whatever ham’n’cheese sammich concoction is wrapped around the pill, and make sure Poochie knows you have it right. there. (Bacon works well - nice and fragrant.)
Ideally, Poochie will be so focused on getting the GOOD TREAT into their piehole that they’ll swallow the Rx treat just to free up space in their gullet.
My tummy is full just reading all that!
Home after a relatively early quittin’ time & relaxing with the Devil’s house panther lettuce. It’s early enough that I’ll probably suit him up for a bit of outside time while I figure out dinner. Haven’t felt much like eating the last coupla days, so definitely need to pad my bones before tomorrow’s Late Night shift.
