(Old) A Chilly (Well, To Me) MMP

Reminded me of the British Isles cruise my mom and I made 12 years ago. We stopped in a shop in Scotland and I bought a scarf - the dressy kind, not the cold weather kind. Anyway, back at the ship I was looking at it and I saw the tag that said Made in China!! Dammit. I still have it but I don’t know if I ever wore it - mainly because I just don’t dress up. Not sure why I bought it…

Starting with 41 Ferrets on the way to low 60s. I will definitely be working on the back garden today. Plus the neighbor who’s lending us the splitter (for next Saturday) will be coming over to see how much we have to split. I need to wander into the woods to see what’s back there - I think it’s another tree that’s been cut up, but I’m not positive. Also Daughter and her spawn are coming by for a visit. So lots of stuff going on.

Sometime this week, I need to organize a spot for the firewood. I want as much as possible under the porch for convenience. Especially since Idiot Otis pulls the plastic cover off the woodpile that’s not under cover. That’s more organizational than labor-intensive and it might involve a broom and/or a rake.

Speaking of which, the back deck is leaf-ful and Otis brings some in stuck to his feet. I’ll give it a quick sweep, but until all the trees are nekkid, it’ll be an ongoing battle.

So that’s the outlook for today. Good times ahead.

Happy Saturday!

Up, dressed, and getting ready to leave for soccer day (coach at 8am and 9:30am, referee at 12:30pm and 3:30pm) so will check back sometime later. 46F right now heading to 75F so I’ll be shedding layers of clothing all day. Last full week of soccer, tournament is 2 weeks out, so things will be slower then, but we’ll see how the day goes.

Bright Tree, Ollie vs the Squirrel is quite a story, guess the squirrel was tired of being barked at and took action.

Shoe, I see why you love S.M.. Hope the Team leader is OK.

swampy, enjoy the chicken livers.

FCM, enjoy the day, sounds like you’ll be as busy as I am.

And 7am, so need to finish packing all my coach/referee stuff (and forgetting something) for the day, so have a good one all.

Yesterday my friend took me to a buffet, her treat. The fortune said you will have pleasant surprises today. I walked to Dunkin later and lo and behold, there were the PizzaPeople! Got a free pizza.

Good morning. NPR news is bringing me news of AI cracking uncrackable code having to do with PHP. I have a feeling if I knew what they were talking about, I’d still be confused.

Speaking of things I barely comprehend, the People Who Decide These Things have declared they’re going to stop with their “leap second” adjustments for a few thousand years. Okay, here’s where you cue up Chicago’s Does Anybody Really Know What Time It Is.

We skipped the trip to the doc, instead opting for strapping an ice pack on my foot.

Last night, we saw flashing lights at a house on the street behind us. Apparently, that guy has already put up his Christmas lights. Sheesh, it’s not even Hallowe’en yet!

Some folks caution against keeping a firewood pile near the house for fear of termites and such.

I just found out the Milwaukee Brewers won last night’s World Series game. I didn’t stay up that late.

Don’t forget to VOTE.
Be kind.

The area where we have the firewood is brick and block construction - termites would have a long walk to get to the wood framing one story up. And we know what termite tunnels look like - none so far in 22 years… Having lived in FL for 18-ish years, we know about termites.

Up and dressed. As soon as I finish flushing my ice maker, I’ll be heading outside to start playing in the dirt.

Good morning! The football team had another blow out. It looks like they will have a lang post-season - Mrs Magill is not looking forward.

This morning, I discovered that Chloé has pretty good pattern recognition. She watched me fiddle on my phone then go and put on pants. Next thing I knew, she was sitting in front of the front door giving an impatient bark. She was basically saying, “It’s Saturday morning, and you’re fixing to go bye-bye. There is no way in hell that I’m gonna miss out on a pup-cup, so you’d better hurry up, bitch.”

Anyhow, she got her pup-cup.

Brighttree Them squirrels can be vicious.

Funny that. Too many people do not realize that communication is a two-way street.

W00t!!!

Twenty-five or six to four… in Reykjavik.

Mine too. I can’t decide if I wanna watch a game with a team the Cornhuskers will play in weeks to come (that could be very scary) or just see if the bartender will put on some powerhouse game. Or I might just stay at home reading with the cat on my lap while I assiduously ignore the laundry. The deciding factor might be that for the former I’d have to put on pants and comb my hair.

Afternoon, mumpers! It’s currently 11c/51f with a predicted high of 15c/59f and rainy. Weather app says “It’s raining. Someone always fucking smells like a wet dog. Fucking gross.”

It is indeed very wet. We had Storm Austen yesterday with high winds, lots of rain and much travel disruption. I managed to get home but was an hour later than usual. I made spagbol for dinner and we watched a film before I went to bed.

Storm Austen raged a bit more in the night but it was relatively calm this morning by the time I went to the gym. Came home to get changed and went to the hairdressers - hair looked nice for the two minutes it took to get to the car! Went home to collect 'im indoors then we went to Jack’s Café for lunch and into town for errands. It rained, the wind blew and I noe resemble a shipwrecked rat.

Home with a cuppa and then out to see a couple of bands at the Giffard tonight. We haven’t had any interwebz all day, not sure if that’s down to Storm Austen or Storm Boelo!

Hope you stay reasonably dry, Nut!

bright tree, never underestimate the warfare intelligence of squirrels when it comes to dogs. When we lived in Tennessee, the squirrels around my apartment knew that Nelson had a fat old woman on the other end of the leash and would tease him.

Up, caffeinating, breakfasted and fixing to do KP. Not a whole lot shaking today, so I’ll take it easy.

Y’all have a great day!

Moderating:

We are trying so hard to inhibit casual misogyny on the board. In each of these instances, you’re engaging in it with the word, “bitch”. Please stop, and find other ways to disparage women (or karma) without gender-punching-down. You’re all colorful and creative with language, so I know you can.

shoe, changing the spelling doesn’t change the meaning of the word. It’s not an acceptable workaround.

Thanks.

My apologies. I almost didn’t include it, but it felt oddly affirming. I’ll use better judgment.

Duly noted @Aspenglow mea culpa.

Thanks, both. I hate moderating anything in the MMP, so I appreciate your help with this.

At 11:51am it’s sunny and 59°F, with an expected high of 62. Excellent fall weather, which should continue through at least the end of the month. Ahhhhhh.

The Swarovski delivery arrived yesterday evening! The Halloween teddy bear got cancelled (suddenly it was unavailable), but the mouse-and-pumpkin figurine is much cuter anyway.

It’s only 2" tall. Right now it’s on my home office desk in front of the computer, where I can see and admire it most easily for a while; then it will join the rest of my crystal in the curio cabinet (down in the TV room).

When I woke up this morning I found an email from the woman who will be the Chief Election Officer at my assigned precinct on the 3rd (they usually reach out about a week before election day). I confirmed that I’ll be available to help set up the evening before, and gave her my election-related background. I’ve never worked with her before but I recognized several of the other email addresses on her distro, and am glad that I’ll be working with a handful of people I know; it’s one of the reasons I asked to be assigned to my “usual” precinct. We’re just over a week away now! :ballot_box:

I have no plans today and nothing on my to-do list (I think!), so I’m looking forward to an afternoon of reading before I relocate to the TV room this evening and get caught up on some shows from the week.

That’s on my list to watch today! Also the new show Phony, on Hulu.

I have a similar story from when I went to Paris with some friends in 2017: two of them were big fans of Fragonard so we went to their museum and shop, and I bought a fancy shimmery scarf (which smelled amazing for a few months). But I’ve never worn a scarf decoratively, and it has lived in my closet ever since. I have no idea what came over me!

Nice!!

That’s always the case for me! LOL!

Lunch break. I planted almost the entire line of liriope - up to the old umbrella-style clothesline pole base. I decided to try to dig it out, but I have no idea how deep it goes. I’m at least a foot down so far. I should probably look up the recommended depth - it may be deep enough that I’ll quit now.

Back neighbor came over to see how much wood needed to be split. I think he’s going to come and do it all himself tomorrow! I just wanted to borrow the splitter. This feels weird. He’s Daughter’s boss/team lead/something and she said that’s just the way he is. So now I feel like I have to do something for him. I can’t even offer him half the wood because he’s had more trees taken down than we have. Must cogitate…

And I appreciate all you’ all’s help with this. It’s a worthy undertaking.

Offer some of your skills in return. Plant a bank of iris for him, throw him a big ceramic planter, offer to put a fresh coat of paint on something outdoors that he just hadn’t gotten around to. You got this girl.

The planter is a good idea - thanks!

Good morning! I’m doing much better today, thanks to a decent night’s sleep. It’s cold again this morning, hovering right around freezing at 34Ferrets, but projected to rise to 62F this afternoon.

taters, I hope all went well with the surgery yesterday! Please check in when you can, and enjoy the time with your son and the dogs.

flyboy, I hope Mrs. L.A. recovers from her dental work soon!

wet one, Ollie’s registered name is not nearly as cool as Boom Shakalaka. I wish it was. He was christened Li’l < name of breeder’s county > I Stacked the Deck. Um. Ok.

Very interesting information re airport codes, metal mouse! I learn the most amazing things in the MMP.

FCM, the tissue obsession of dogs… (and apparently cats, too, nettie!) I’ll never understand it. Ollie leaves the boxes of tissues alone that I have everywhere in the house (mostly because he can’t reach them), but any tissue he can fish out of a trash can is fair game. It’s just disgusting. I’ve trained him to leave them alone for the most part, but sometimes he just can’t resist sneaking one. Ugh.

Oopsie, I love Wallace and Grommet! The flying ears just kill me. Great work! And I’m glad the results of the liver ultrasound went acceptably well.

Glad you’re feeling better, 52. Being sick sucks, and very happy to hear the lost dog was reunited with its owners.

I did have that same thought. Ollie definitely has his paws full with that squirrel! It is a regular asshole who likes to tease Ollie whenever he can. Used to climb the screens when the sidelight windows were open, just to drive Ollie insane. I think I scared that behavior out of it, though.

Thanks, BBBooo. And great suggestions for FCM! You’ve given me some ideas for novel thank yous, too.

The computer is hanging on, obviously. Just a few more days to go. I’d be lost without it, but at least the work I needed to get done for this month is finished. Everything is backed up, so I can carry on in a pinch.

Not much planned for today, although I should probably do some stuff outside. There’s rain in our forecast for almost a week after today. We’ll see. There are things to do indoors, too. Never any shortage of chores, is there?

I’ve got defrosted chicken thighs on deck for dinner. Just need to decide if I’d rather roast them with a smoked paprika mixture or (and I’m leaning this way) with lemon and oregano, with oven fries alongside. I’ll steam some green beans, too.

So a quick question for those who don’t mind answering: What do you think is a reasonable price to pay for a bra? I need to buy some new ones, but the prices seem a bit shocking.

Will try to check in again later. Have fabulous Saturdays, everyone!

I usually wait for Soma’s semi-annual $29 sale.
