(Old) A Good Read in the MMP

Evening all. Did my backstroking at the pool (no whirlpool, it’s broke), but the scale at the gym I have been checking each Monday has turned traitorous, on August 5th it weighed me at 214.8lbs, which was consistent with my figures, then on the 12th it showed 216.4, a gain of 1.6lbs. Well, I had eaten very well the weekend before so I figured that had done it, so I watched my diet closely this week, got lots of exercise in, and when I weighed myself today…the &^&^ scale showed 220.2lbs, a gain of nearly 4 lbs! Now I did eat at Olive Garden Sunday and had some cupcakes Saturday, but I know I didn’t overdo it that much. Hopefully the scale will behave better next week (it better…).

And maybe I’m getting too old, but the U9 boys are going to drive me batty this year. Attention span is about 0.3 seconds and have a couple who just love to ask questions… I’ll survive, but may stick with the older kids from now on.

Flyboy, best wishes to Wifey, RN.

Cupcakes, I need to look for that T-shirt. Maybe one with Alabama on it instead…

Coppertone, at that weight and height, your BMI looks pretty normal. Glad the stuff is working for you.

Wet one, never did a meatless any-day if I could help it (save when I was Cat-lick and Fridays were no-meat days).

Legend, sad news on the old friend.

FCM, good luck on the resets with the credit cards. Just did my monthly bill-pay today.

Sensei, hope you continue to get feeling better and get released from durance vile.

Husbands; just about the time you want to shoot them they go and do something amazing.

Trieste, you’re welcome; Anything you can find on-line by Eric Frank Russell is worth reading, IMHO. He didn’t write a ton of stuff but what he did do I have always enjoyed.

Oopsie, glad that all the moving and cleaning meets with your approval. And I cannot keep Potato Chips or Cookies in the house either, just no willpower at all.

swampy, thanks for the suggestion, but they are ENT specialists, so I’m sure they have heard (heh) that one before. Will try and get a picture up on the Book of Faces once they are installed.

And it’s after 9pm locally so need to finish the day’s internettin’ and head off to bed. Take care all.

IMHO, eggs are not meat. Chicken is meat but not eggs. I had an ear of corn for dinner then had to go to the barn for a non emergency. It was too late to cook when I got home so I had a Quest protein bar.

There were three half-pieces of cube steak in the fridge that needed to be cooked. I sprinkled them with meat tenderiser, salt, pepper, and garlic powder, and put them back in the fridge. I cooked them for dinner, saving one for breakfast or something Wednesday, and had them with half an avocado, half a tomato, and some mayo (on the plants).

metal mouse I’ve got a scale at home, I weigh myself after morning ablutions. I’m always within a 2 lb range (except for a few years ago when I worked too much, and went down 10 lbs) . Maybe weighing yourself after being out in the world and eating is not so consistent?

Elsewise, fuckall to report from here. Leftover ribs from yesterday were tasty. Hope y’all are doing well.

*sigh* I have to go down to the orifice tomorrow, which means I have to get up at 0430. If I go to bed at 2100, that will give me seven and a half hours’ sleep. Except for getting up in the middle of the night to urinate, and rolling around because I can’t stay in one position too long… Then the two and a half (or so) hour drive.

I need to remember to buy Joe-Joe’s for The Missus, and anchovies and prosciutto for me when I go to TJ’s tomorrow.

Up, caffeinated, and sheveled. Off to heave.

< shelves plan to have scrambled chicken for breakfast >

Morning, mumpers! It’s currently 16c/60f with a predicted high of 18c/64f and mostly cloudy. Weather app is quite giddy with that and says “The sun is fucking hiding. Ollie, ollie, oxen free, fucker!” Can’t argue with that, it’s grey and drizzly out there although I am enjoying the cool breeze.

I’m glad to hear it, hopefully the news will be good and that’ll be one thing out of the way so she can get some medical help for her gastric insecurity

Did you feel that was long enough? Did she just ask how you were feeling and that was it? I suppose they know what they’re doing but it would concern me a bit that she wasn’t taking longer to be sure things were ok

I’m sorry for the loss of Mr L’s friend, it’s good that you have a pile of photos to look through, that will hopefully help him grieve when he’s ready.

I hope you’re feeling better soon, and you manage to get home with a few days to spare before school starts again!

That is not fun. I am usually up by 5.30am when I have my three days on campus. My commute is around 1.5hrs with a bus followed by two trains and then a short walk. I like to be in early because it’s relatively quiet and during term-time, I’m avoiding a lot of the schoolkids too.

Taters sorry to hear that your son’s been unwell too, I hope his recovery is swift and you get to spend some time with him to allay your concerns. Perhaps work will be a bit more considerate than usual and not expect you to perform many miracles every day.

Nothing much exciting happening here today. I hauled the biiiiiig recycling bin out for collection today, the binmen came down the street instead of up the street, they looked in the neighbour’s bin but not in mine, and emptied both so I think the neighbours have finally learned what they can or can’t put in their bin!

I’m logged into work, got a few little things to do today, and a couple of training things to attend tomorrow when I’m in the campus office. Today I need to do some laundry and also put some chicken in the oven to bake ready for when I need to make campus food this afternoon after irk. Then we’re off grocery shopping tonight so I need to get my list finished as well.

Now I need to go and politely berate my minion who is on annual leave because she’s been logging in and working when she’s not supposed to. I has a grrrrr!

She asked how I was doing. She asked if I was taking the meds twice daily. She told me she ordered enough refills to get me thru a year. She said I could drive starting next month (Um, sure…) and she told me to call if anything came up during the next year, otherwise come see her next August. I truly had no questions or concerns - everything has been peachy-fine. Just wish we’d done it over the phone, but whateves…

FCD has left already for the dealer so he could be first in line for service. He’s getting some kind of notice/warning on the new vehicle via Bluetooth so that will be dealt with forthwith, I hope.

The Hospice nurse was here last night within 2 hours of MIL’s fall. There doesn’t appear to be any major damage, tho she’ll have a couple of sore spots. Mostly she was told to NOT reach for stuff but let us do it (kinda like we’ve been telling her forever.) Why does she not see that her quest for independence is at the root of many of her problems?? She did go to bed early last night, and I hope she sleeps in a good, long time. It’s quiet here and I’ll keep it quiet, so we shall see.

I think I figured out why my recurring charges on VISA were rejected - I think I told it to do that. OOPS! In my defense, it was a choice right under the one to prohibit international charges. Anyway, shortly I shall try again. And if that did it, I have my list of accounts that need to be updated with the new card. On the plus side, but the time I’m done, I’ll have the account number, date, and security code implanted in my brain, so there’s that.

We’ve got several autumn-like days ahead - I plan to open windows and air out the house. MIL will freeze, so extra afghans will be on hand. She still refuses to use the electric throw, because, yanno, it’s not winter yet.

Thus beginneth my day. Happy Tuesday!!

Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN ‘Tis 72 Amurrkin out and clear with a predicted high of 93 and N.O.S. I’m all atwitter as today is laundry day. I also foresee some quality cee-mint pond time, nappage, day drinkin’ and other RDOS inactivities. Both of us brought home half or our steak last night, so steak, sallit, and cheesey garlic bread shall be sup. Quick, simple, and nummy.

Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then, onward into the day! Rah.

Happy Tuesday Y’all!

Autopay has been successfully set up, except for 2 accounts that I need to do over the phone (both local - go figure!) And I created a spreadsheet with the info for all the autopay accounts for when we have yet another compromise (because you know someone, somewhere will steal our card number.) And thanks to the multiple inputs, I’ve memorized the latest card info. Lucky for me, the first 8 digits are always the same.

MIL got up just before 7, then went to the bathroom and got back into bed. She did call me, so that counts as a win. She was really shaky, but she stayed on her feet - another win.

I should take advantage of the quiet and get a shower.

Morning all. Bladder got me up at 6am and then the intestines decided to get in the act so by the time I was finished I bowed to the inevitable and didn’t go back to bed. Not much activity planned for the day, do have soccer practice (I coach two teams) and may do a gym visit, but otherwise slack and sloth will be the order of the day. 64F heading to 86F, so not unreasonable.

VanGo, I always do the Monday weight check after eating the same meal (Jersey Mike’s) and then exercising for 70-80 minutes, so since it occurs as a regular part of the day, it should be consistent. If I go to the gym today I’ll check it again just out of curiousity.

Flyboy, hope the drive went well.

swampy, happy laundry day.

And it’s been over a half-hour since I took the medication that’s supposed to be on an empty stomach, so the apple sitting next to me is about to be devoured. Take care all.

Light volume, so a short day. apprently the building is “overstaffed” so they are gonna start sending people home when they show up late. But I’ve had breakfast and Spot has had Screaming Tuxedo Zoomies, now I can hit Food Lion and Aldi.

Or they’ve been worn down by your neighbors’ stupidity.

Q’itih is home again. The container is tasteful, and they did a plaster cast of one of her paws. We’re sad, but it’s a bit of closure and wasn’t nearly as traumatic as when I picked up the cremains of our last cat. The clinic here has the obligatory clinic cat, who sleeps in a bed on the front counter. Being able to give him skritches while taking care of business was comforting. So now we move forward and perhaps another little friend will enter our lives unexpectedly. Cheers to all.

Left the house at 0507, and got into the office about 10 minutes ago.

When Harvey died, he got a single cremation (as did Creamsicle and Tonka). I picked up the cardboard box from our (recently late) vet, expecting it to contain a plastic bag. Instead it contained a small, urn-shaped urn. My wife thought about burying it under a tree in the back yard, but Harvey was an indoor cat and I didn’t like the idea of him being out in the cold and wet. When Creamsicle died, we saw that we had a choice of urns. We chose a nice wooden box for her. Tonka was a large cat, so he got a large box. It’s bigger than necessary, but it has a frame for a picture on the front. We put the first photo of him that Catmom took of him, with his name and dates added by me. We also received a paw print in terra cotta.

Q’itih’s new home.

{{{Chefguy and Q’itih}}}

{{{cookie}}} I also have a paw print.

i have only 1 paw print. when my vet retired, she sold her practice to a vet corp. they did a fancy urn and pawprint. before that it was wood box and the vet would make a donation to a shelter or vet school (u of p).

I enjoy reading. I’ve been reading some of the Pern books (science fiction.) I like reading non-fiction. I like Dickens. I like various books I suppose.
I’ve been thinking that I should keep a list of books I’ve recently read.

Just finished making another batch of salsa for my sweetie. I had to run to Food Lion for a pepper and a jalapeno, but I didn’t think to get chips to go with it. However, he’s got an urpy tummy, so the flavors will meld and I’ll get chips another time.

MIL is really out of it. She’s been sleeping most of the day, and in her sleep, she’s talking about friends of theirs, one couple who died of Covid, and another woman who has alzheimer’s and may have since died. She also asked Alexa to turn up the volume, even tho she hadn’t been using the unit. FCD and I think this might be a final spiral. I just hope that the end comes in her sleep and not in the hospital.

Sorry to be a downer - it’s one of those days. And on top of it all, I nicked my left pinkie when I was chopping 'maters for the salsa. FCD put a bandaid on it so I wouldn’t bleed on the food. So no hemoglobin bonus.

Now, what to make for supper…
