(Old) A Good Read in the MMP

If she’s getting really close, can’t the hospice nurses help keep her at home? I remember that my father was very firmly against going to the hospital during the end stage of his pancreatic cancer, and hospice helped my stepmother keep him at home through the end.

It’s after 1pm and outside of fixing a meal I haven’t done a bloody thing all day. Need to get up off my butt and get to the gym (where I’ll resume sitting down, but at least I’ll be getting some sweating done).

Now I’m going to start moving…

OK, now…

Sometimes I forget which forums I have shared this too. As an old guy, I probably tend to repeat myself occasionally

It’s good to have bags of chicken in your freezer. Wings, thigh meat, breast ‘tenderloins’… Grab some pieces and put them into the toaster oven with some frozen broccoli and seasoning, and dinner’s in half an hour. Since I’ve been working on the frozen catfish filets that one of Wifey, RN’s patients gave her, I haven’t bought any chicken. I went to TJ’s just now to get more Joe-Joe’s (TJ’s Oreos analogue) for The Missus and a Cobb salad for me, I thought I’d stock up on deadbird pieces. They had a power outage a couple of days ago, and they didn’t have any. Isn’t that always the way it goes?

every night i mention y’all, that your mil has a painless and peaceful passing when it is time. i include you and fcd, that y’all are sent peace and strength.

it is so difficult, and keeps you hyper alert, just exhausting physically and mentally.

Mother Nature has gone a bit mad: it was all of 63°F when I took Bailey outside this morning, and the forecasted high is only 74. It’s sunny but breezy, making it actually a touch chilly outside (especially in the shade). In August! In DC! Go figure! I think tomorrow is supposed to be like this, too. I’ll take it.

Not much to yammer about today. I’m still pleased with the rearranging I did on Sunday, which is a relief (undoing any of the changes would be a PITA). I have a personal training session after work, and I’ll stop at the grocery store on the way home for bananas and things. It will be my first test of trying to crack down on my snacking*: at lunchtime I finished the last of the snacks I had in the house, and post-gym is always when I’m the most likely to talk myself into something. I’ve decided that if I’m really struggling I will allow myself a single serving of something (like a single bakery item, or a small bag of chips), but my goal is to not bring anything multi-serving home. Baby steps…we’ll see how it goes!

*Not including popcorn. I need to have/be able to look forward to my daily bag of PopSecret Homestyle!

:people_hugging:

Went to dr. Bp was 120/80.
How rare is that?
Went to dentist for another casting, this time I started gagging.
He said it was enough time for it to set though.
Next appointment in 3 weeks.
Then 3 weeks after that, maybe the new plate!

Howdy Y’all! Laundry got laundered and put where it stays until it gets dirty again. Ungrateful laundry for not stayin’ clean! We had quality cee-mint pond with day drinkin’, which was followed by nappage. An early sup got et and now we chill.

Oopsie it is a rare night in da cave when I don’t have me some popcorn with Netflix. It’s almost unthinkable!

The part that really bugs me is that it REFUSES to put itself away. Hmmmph!

I had to toss on a flannel shirt today. High of 61.

nettie I agree with the irritation with laundry not being self-folding and getting back into drawers.

Good morning Japan time.

After a few weeks in Europe it’s been hard getting used to Japan time again.

Then I’ve been hospitalized for a week and my sleep has been really weird as well.

I’m waiting for them to draw some blood and tell me if the white blood cells have chilled out enough to let me go home.

It’s 6:30 am and hopefully I can go by noon

:people_hugging:

That would be the best for everyone. Hugs to you all.

When I hear Joe-Joes, I think of the deep fried potato wedges commonly sold in gas stations alongside the fried chicken.

Hope that you’re sprung soonest!

Our system at irk today was intermittently slow and quirky, which added to some of the issues that I was dealing with in trying to get stuff ready to transfer (I’m’a whap the ijit who keeps transferring phones back to me, not only to the wrong systematic location, but with cartons not closed out, making things take 3-5 times longer than it should. Grrrrrrrrrr!). But we are moving the backlog along.

Stay safe and healthy y’all!

The only concern about the hospital is if she falls again and it’s particularly bad. Hospice wants her to stay at home, as do we, but sometimes stuff happens.

That’s what I didn’t expect - how exhausting it is. We’re both stressed, and these falls make it worse. We used to feel OK leaving her for a couple of hours by herself. No more. No way.

SIL called - Tobias’ school is closed Thurs and Fri and he wanted to know if I could keep him. So I shall. He’s pretty easy to deal with by himself. It’s when I have both of them that it fries me. And Daughter might be able to work from home on Firday, so I guess we’ll see.

Dishwasher is sloshing and I’m about to assume the recliner position.

Where I come from, we called them ‘potato wedges’. (And I don’t recall any gas stations that sold fried chicken down there. Maybe hot dogs on rollers, nachos, and sandwiches you could heat up.)

This particular chain has some pretty good chicken and in their turkey legs are a nice change of pace.

The 115 does get a little scary at times!

I am amused just thinking about it

Love it!!!

GG leaves impact craters on our waterbed. He also steals blankets, he’s a jerk to sleep with.

It sounds like hospital food is ick no matter where it is. Good on SenWife sneaking coffee it, I know that had to have helped! I hope you are released early tomorrow.

Serious, what’s up with that?

He rarely tells me that he loves me. He has bought me flowers once. Tonight I had dinner planned out (chicken taquitos with guac, pico and sour cream, black beans on the side) and had even made the pico this morning, but I got involved in a tricky bit of stitching so Hubs ordered pizza and went to pick it up.

I really have to look close to be sure that Hubs is wearing his hearing aids, they are very discrete nowadays.

So I’m guessing that cheese isn’t meat as well.

This gives you so many options for meatless days.

If you have a grill, slather a large portobello mushroom with olive oil, sprinkle with some garlic and onion powder and cook until tender. Throw a couple of pieces of sourdough bread on the grill to toast and make yourself a grilled sourdough, portobello and bleu cheese samwich. Pair it with a nice garden salad and finish with a slice of cheese cake.

Ain’t no way you will feel deprived after that!!!

Humpf. The bin reports are going to get much more boring now :frowning:

Because she wants to think she isn’t dying. She wants to believe that she will get better so she needs to be able to do things for herself. I have many sads for all of you.

:people_hugging:

All of the rescues I’ve ever heard of love to have volunteers come and pet their kitties on a regular basis.

I loved the Pern books. Strong, problem solving women who bonded with flying dragons. I would have been very happy in that world!

I would agree that this is something that needs to be explored. At this point nothing would be helped by taking her to a hospital and much harm could happen.

I sure do hope this goes easily and as painlessly as possible.

Why should we be the ones to fight the cats for our clean socks?!?

Humph indeed.

So today was a day and things got done. The R/O spigot got loose and was trying to turn sideways, so Hubs had the plumber back over. He complimented us on how nice the place was looking now compared to the first time he was here.

When Hubs told him about the water bill, he was alarmed and went into the crawlspace to be sure that nothing was leaking despite our protests.

Now that he’s been in my home for more than three times, he gets fed what I feed Hubs, so plumber had coffee and a couple of russian tea cakes before leaving.

The water company guy also came over and we learned that I had wrongly accused them of not doing anything when I called them after the plumber’s first visit. There was a nice new digital meter now and the valve looked nice and clean.

According to the readings from the last meter reading, we are using a normal amount of water (average 110 gallons a day) and the water guy agreed that a thousand gallons a day seemed excessive. He said that someone else entered his handwritten numbers into the system and he would look at his notes and see if a mistake was made there.

While we are resigned to paying the Divine Bovine bill, we are happy to know that it probably won’t happen again.

Bella is going to a different vet tomorrow. She’s a sweet lil cat who is driving everyone nuts and something must be done.

I called to confirm her appointment with the second vet and the receptionist told me that Bella couldn’t be re-spayed until she had been out of heat for three months. That’s just insane, breeding cats are in heat or pregnant. When I asked if she meant three months since being spayed, she said no, three months out of heat.

This is really frustrating. When we got our cats through the Cat Distribution System, we expected to get a sick cat that needed to be vetted and neutered. We got a shelter cat thinking that all of that had been taken care of only to find out that we ended up with an ORS cat. FML.

I keep track (or as a former boss, keep tract) on Goodreads.

Good Evening all. Actually did drive over to the gym and pedaled 800 calories away according to the on-bike systems. Soccer has been coached, had 6 out of 9 players there and we had some fun, most seem to have fairly good skills, had to sit one down for a couple minutes because he was playing out of control and ran over a couple teammates, but no hard feelings. Then dined on Mac-n-Cheese and am sitting now in sloth position doing the evening internetting. 75F now and supposed to get to 57F(!!) tonight, so the AC will get some time off.

Am trying SugarBee apples this week for my in-between snacks, they are pretty good and very filling.

Oopsie, enjoy the weather while you can.

Coppertone, good news on the BP and fingers crossed the new plate shows up on-time.

swampy, may have to do a load of laundry tomorrow, Wednesday is the only day except Sunday I am not coaching soccer so a lot of things to do tomorrow.

Sensei, hope you’re out of the horse-pistol by now.

FCM, hang in there.

JtC, hope your plumbing problems are history now. And don’t blame you for being frustrated with the vet; I get a second (or even third) opinion if I could.

And it’s after 8pm, the sun has set and I am assimilating dinner, so take care all and I’ll catch you on Hump Day.

Blood results were examined. Was prodded at again, cross examined on any lingering pain and declared too well for the bed, a conclusion I had made a day before.

The dressing came off and it looks like they made a five-inch slash. No problems but was given a stern warning on watching for fevers, pain, redness and deer crossing the road. Well, I’m sure the doc would have said the latter had he remembered. Not to exercise too hard and take it easy for a while. I’ll see if SenWife will accept that washing dishes is rigorous exercise and 10 years qualifies as “a while”.

So I’m FREEEEEE!

Should be out by noon. They offered me the option of staying for another bland lunch but I think I’ll pass on that.

I napped. Spot licked my head. I had a Manhattan and Redneck stirfry for dinner. UTypical Tuesday.

Don’t be sorry.

Spot constantly changes positions, but if I roll over, he acts like I’ve offended 60 generations of ancestors.

WOOHOO!!!
