Irked and the system is still hung over. I’ll likely be moved to my new desk when I go in tomorrow. I walked the IT hardware guy through what all needed to go for my station to function and he took notes, so it looks promising.
I requested to have Monday off because I’m in need of a pajama day (although I will put on pants to take Nelson to the dog park, weather permitting
We have had a groundhog in the neighborhood for the last couple of years. It hasn’t really caused much of a disturbance. We have always known that it was living under Jane’s backyard shed. She lives behind me and one house to the west. I am not sure that she knew it was living in her yard until last night.
Sitting at my computer desk I glanced out the window and saw Jane’s gentleman friend trying to dig a hole in the middle of the yard. Looking more closely, I realized that he had the groundhog trapped and was trying to kill it by chopping into it with the spade. It took him about five minutes to make the kill with the groundhog writhing in fear and pain the whole time.
It was brutal. I wonder what goes through people’s heads to make this acceptable.

It’s been another gorgeous day 10 miles west of the White House! It was in the low 50s when I took Bailey out this morning, and I actually had to put on slippers (vs my usual sandals) and a fleece. It’s been sunny but breezy again, and cool enough that until a little while ago I didn’t have any windows open: one of the storm door panes has been slightly raised all day, for the doggy’s entertainment, but that was all until I cracked the kitchen window 1-2 hours ago.
Yesterday I did did succumb to the grocery store bakery’s siren song and get 2 big oatmeal-and-cranberry cookies (packaged together) and 1 giant cinnamon roll, but I still consider the trip a “win” because I didn’t bring home any multi-serving snacks for the first time in I don’t know how long. I’ve been on a big Pringles and Pepperidge Farm (and Nonni’s) kick, but I made myself walk right past that aisle. Yesterday was just a baby step toward where I need to be, but I’ll take my victories as I can!
We definitely have that in common…
(and they said we wouldn’t last! )
LOL!!
But…why? If the water guy agrees that there was likely a mistake, and especially if it does turn out that someone entered his handwritten numbers incorrectly, shouldn’t the water company fix that bill?
Woo hoo!! Hopefully you are actually back home now…??
I didn’t know that, either!
I got pre-made chicken salad sliders from the grocery store’s deli for last night’s dinner. And there’s a new chicken salad place near me that I keep meaning to check out!
Somehow they both just get cuter and cuter!
That will be interesting! I’ll look forward to hearing (ha!) about how that experience was.
I don’t think I’d want to know.
I’ve had Bailey for 16 years, but for some reason in the past 2-3 years I’ve become super sensitive about any kind of animal suffering. Even fictional. I can’t watch ASPCA commercials anymore, and I have to turn off movies/shows if an animal is so much as neglected. I mean, animal stuff has always put me off, and I had a cat for 18 years before getting the dog, but suddenly my tolerance has dropped significantly. Like, “overreaction” levels of intolerance. It’s weird. But my point is that I don’t think I would have been able to restrain myself if I saw what you did.
An engineer I worked with at NAS Jax, yes single, built a Cobra in his dining room. He did disassemble it and put it back together outside, so no chainsaws were involved. The next year, I helped him build a 4-car garage. Cart before the horse, yanno…
Gorgeous here in Southern Merrylande also! The house has been open to let fresh air in. I’m so loving it!!!
The hospice folks want MIL to get a hospital bed. She’s fighting it because she’s going to gain weight and get stronger. Because the fact that her weight has been between 99 and 101 for 4 months doesn’t mean anything. She’s just going to eat more cookies so she’ll get more calories. That will make up for having a piece of toast for lunch. No really…
SIL will bring Tobias after Roxy gets on the bus. I’m going to take him to a playground for part of the time so Great Grandma gets quiet time.
Speaking of boats When FCD was at the boatyard, he saw a sport fisherman that was hauled out for maintenance. It had three humongo outboards on the back. The guy at the boatyard said they cost $100K EACH!!! You gotta catch a lot of fish to justify that, methinks. Then again, I’m sure that calculation wasn’t even considered. What do I know of fisherman…
My mother refused to use the bed part of a sofa bed. Didn’t matter that it was a love seat and she couldn’t lay flat. She was not going to be “bedridden”.
Groundhogs aren’t my favorite critter, but there are traps that make a very humane kill if you have one munching on your crop. No sense in making it suffer.
If it’s Chicken Salad Chick, the Fancy Nancy and the Buffalo chicken salad are good. They also do pimiento cheese right.
“Built the boat in the basement” was the phrase my theater tech prof used. We had an elevator that could handle 12’ x 12’, or go up through the stage floor in 4’ x4’ sections. Our shop was under the stage.
Hmm, what’s fer dinner…cheese and eggs seem likely. Omelet, perhaps?
Mrs. L.A. finished of her Schnitzel Champignon from our Anniversary Dinner. I finished off both of our portions of the zucchini from the same – and two hot dogs (no buns) with mayonnaise-Sriracha to dip in.
Good evening all. Swimming has been swum, since this is the one day a week I don’t have soccer to coach, took a little extra time and got 1.5 miles in, so that felt pretty good. Then went to Wal-Mart and picked up a clock and keyboard, both promising to be much quieter than the current occupants. A cheeseburger has tamped down my appetite and internettin’ and readin’ are the only things left on the agenda for tonight.
The hearing aid seems to be working well, it even seems to have picked up my chewing on the cheeseburger (don’t think I need that good a hearing…) and I’ll spend the next 2 weeks adjusting to it. Need to plug the charger it, I’m going to put it on my nightstand so that as I take my glasses off I can put them in the charger (they ENT specialist said that they are good for about 20 hours fully charged).
Amazing how much noise my feet make while walking…
VanGO, that’s a bit pricey for me, an going to try another one and see how it works out before I go that route. And measure twice and cut once.
JtC, hope the vet can help Bella out. And I agree with Oopsie, the Water Department needs to adjust that billing. Are you still checking the usage?
One chainsaw and many, many beers, I would suspect…
Hippie, I find that disturbing too. Used a glue trap once and didn’t like what I found so use a humane trap now whenever I need to. Some people just raised that way, I guess.
Oopsie, I can get by the Lay’s chips and Oreo cookies pretty well these days, but the Utz Giant Cheese Ball containers are still a hard go.
FCM, hope MIL has a revelation and allows the hospital bed. And as for the $100K engines, well boys with toys…
And time to get that clock up on the wall. Have a good evening all.
More than a bit chilly this morning, 49 degrees. I woke up cold and put the heat on in the truck.
MetalMouse, I have read that burying wet electronics in rice helps to dry them out.
I, too, won’t use sticky traps anymore. Too cruel, even for mice. We have battery operated ones that electrocute them.
Enjoy your new found supersonic hearing!
Poor groundhog. I like them even though I know they are dangerous to horses and cattle. Mackie shared the back yard with a groundhog for years. They ignored each other.
There was one that lived in the middle of a cloverleaf near my mother’s house, and somebody would leave carrots for it.
Such cuties FCM
I woke up at 4am and couldn’t get back to sleep. I got a short nap later in the morning. I’m feeling it now though, so bedtime is coming soon.
Tonight is taco night at my son’s job, I hope he can bring home leftovers. He took some containers just in case. Everybody is encouraged to take leftovers home so the food doesn’t get thrown out.
Well. I did not make it to that job.
Then I got a text saying come for an interview at a somewhat new place…I went and got hired right away…I will actually be cooking.
It seems very nice.
God always comes through for me.
I even got a meal!
Am stuffed too.
*sigh* Yesterday as I neared my exit on my commute home, I saw a small, dead, black-and-white tuxedo kitty on the left side of the freeway. I didn’t mention it to Catmom. Today I saw a cartoon, wherein a guy finds a cat that had been hit by a car. He buries it, and the cat’s ghost says, ‘Thank you.’ Then there was a Pixie and Brutus cartoon, where Brutus saves Pixie from being hit by a car, but is hit himself. Brutus goes to Dog Heaven, but chooses to go back so that Pixie won’t be alone.
As I recall…and do remember that I wasn’t there when it happened…the handlebars went on, break and clutch were mounted and adjusted and a celebration bottle of champers was opened and shared between his two roommates and a couple of friends. That lubricated things well enough that he started the bike in the house and tried to ride it out the door.
A finger got smooshed and bad words happened. They were out of the bubbly stuff so had a beer or two while talking about it and then took the door off. The bike didn’t fit. More beers happened.
They used a pry bar to take the door frame off and the handlebars were still two inches too wide. That’s when the chainsaw came out.
When they were telling us the story, I walked to the front of the bike and noticed that if they had taken the handlebars off, they wouldn’t have lost their security deposit because the rest of the bike would have fit out the door with no issues.
No words were spoken. I just admired the new ride and smoked a nice joint with them.
Mom looked forward to staying with us because she had a reading bed. She loved our hospital bed, she could adjust everything just how she liked it so she could read in bed. (Or eat, I liked to spoil her by bringing a plate of snacks she could balance on VBC.)
