As I tossed and turned this morning prior to waking up, I thought, ‘Ah, Friday! I can follow up the completion notices from BMCRA and pull the new reports they say will be available Thursday. Wait a minute…’
I am very sorry. I should not have been so insensitive.
Spent the early part of the morning having the new blinds put in. The difference in room temperature is significant. What a relief.
Spent the latter part of the morning watching the convention speeches from last night, all of which were uplifting and inspiring. Harris scored a major win by picking Tim Walz.
The wife is busy roasting beets. I’m hoping they won’t create a stench. At least I don’t have to eat them. Farmer’s market share on Tuesday was pathetic. They didn’t even offer fresh corn to those of us who are only getting a small share. In fact, there was almost nothing that we were interested in. Too bad, as their corn is really good, while the stuff at the local grocer is not.
We’re doing better with our cat grief now that the ashes are here. We’ll always miss her, but we are at least coping better.
The size 10½ Converse Chuck Taylor All Stars I got 20 years ago are too small, and the Navy blue canvas has faded. They’re in great shape, but I just can’t wear them anymore. (Haven’t been able to in years.) So I bought a new pair in size 11 from Amazon. Over 90 bucks! They arrived Tuesday, and they were still too small. I returned them yesterday. I thought I might find some cheaper shoes… and I did: Vans. They were half the price of the Converse. I ordered a size 12, but when I went to check out there was a $17 shipping charge. I noped out of it.
What’s really weird is that the Converse and Vans seem to be unavailable in the majority of sizes, at least for the Navy blue. I need to find the black Vans with the little white skulls all over them that I bought in the '90s. Last I saw them, they were pretty dingy – even after I washed them. But I’d like to find out what size they are.
I don’t blame you for being mad, that’s just not right. Sadly, I’m guessing it was just a paperwork mess-up, but you are the one who will have to go through the whole thing again.
If he’s strong enough to get cranky, he’s going to survive! I’m glad he is feeling better and I agree with shoe that leftover split pea soup is the best.
I’m shocked.
There were many sitcom moments when it came to those guys. They were Marines and as everyone knows, Marines are known for subtlety and discretion LOL!!!
Hubs was the club prez for a couple of years so we were expected to lead the pack on the runs and everyone would come over and chat with us before we left.
One day we were meeting up in a Starbucks parking lot and a new prospect (prospective member) came up to Hubs to be introduced. He was a hunk and I’ve always loved men in chaps so I dropped a glove to watch him bend over. Of course he bent over and grabbed my glove to give back to me.
One of the guys started cracking up and said he had wondered how long it was going to take me to get him to bend over, so the prospect looked as asked “Is that true? Were you really checking my ass out?” Me: ummmm…maybe…kinda…yeah
He threw my glove back on the ground, ripped off his jacket and waved it around like a stripper, then pulled his t-shirt off and flexed like only a young bodybuilder can. He threw himself on the ground and did three slow push-ups before grabbing my glove with his mouth and jumping up and bowing and handing my glove back to me. He asked what I thought and my only response was to throw my other glove on the ground!
I’m pretty sure the workers at the Starbucks hated us, the windows were lined with women admiring the view.
I’m so glad you were finally able to get it done. It’s amazing how much the proper window treatments help moderate the temps.
So Bella has settled down again. I know that there is no possibility of her getting preggy, but living with an in-heat cat just sucks.
Hubs cousin with the big dogs had one of her girls go into silent heat unexpectedly. Cousin tracks their heats because while she does breed them, they don’t get bred every heat. I think she said she gives them a year between litters. But now she has a preggy female and doesn’t know which of the three boys was responsible PLUS the girl had a litter in June and it is way too soon.
When I get whiny at the idea of paying to respay Bella, I can comfort myself knowing that we aren’t going to be paying almost two grand for a doggy abortion.
Ninety bucks … acceptable alternative is half the price … seventeen dollars additional, amounts to … counts on fingers … counts toes … look, I suck at math, but I think you still would’ve been OK?
Assuming “acceptable alternative” means “roughly the same thing.”
If it was a crappy knock-off, then, okay, I get yr math.
Every nurse I’ve ever known would agree. Yes, @BippityBoppityBoo ?
When Other Shoe was hospitalized, once he finally started making fussy noises about the TV channel, one of the ICU nurses said pretty much the same thing.
Something to the amount of:
“Once they start complaining about the TV, we know we can move 'em.”
In his defense, the ICU TVs played nonstop rotations of “Big Bang Theory” “SpongeBob SquarePants” and the local news station.
I want to thank you for your stories, and hope to hell you share more.
Were any of them wearing barista aprons?
I’d make a joke about current U.S. politics, but …
You needed to vent a Very Bad Thing, so for whatever it’s worth, I’m in your corner.
And to end on a happy note, here’s some of yesterday’s morning glories, including a couple that clearly were on the last end of the printer ink:
Awwwww!!! Thank you
I didn’t notice any green aprons by the windows, I was too focused on the hunk. Hubs was laughing about all the women drooling on the windows is how I knew to look.
Thank you for the pretty pictures I also thought the “hugged by a flower” comment was very sweet.

Yet another beautiful day here, though it’s a touch warmer this afternoon (currently 76°F) – which just means that I have several windows open, and the room-darkening/thermal curtains are drawn (I haven’t needed them the past two days). The humidity level is still on the low side, but today starts a warming trend: tomorrow and Saturday will be in the mid-80s, then we get upper 80s/low 90s for about a week until it rains again. I might not mind some “proper” late-August weather…as long as the humidity doesn’t get too crazy!
Late yesterday afternoon, the Italian Air Force’s Frecce Tricolori – their Blue Angels – flew over DC on their way home from Canada (where they’d celebrated the 100th anniversary of the Royal Canadian Air Force). A few lucky friends in Arlington, VA, were able to see it. I’m sure there are stunning professional photos available online, but here’s the best amateur picture that I saw on FB:
I have no plans tomorrow night, which is fine with me. The weekend will be on the busy side, though. On Saturday I’ll have a noon personal training session, then I’ll be going to my BFFs’ for dinner to celebrate Wife BFF’s birthday (which is today). Then, on Sunday afternoon I’ll catch the end of a nearby jazz jam session before meeting up with some other friends for a local jazz trumpeter’s evening performace at a place that’s also close to home, but we’ve never been to before. It should be a pretty early night, which will be perfect for me (and Bailey).
On Monday I’ll be working from my company’s proposal center, which I won’t mind at all because it’s literally 2 miles from my house (and I used to work there, so I know the facility/people well). I have a proposal strategy session from 12:30-3:30, and it’ll be easier if I just camp out there all day vs packing up and leaving the house at lunchtime. It’ll mean more of a chance that I’ll actually get to eat some lunch.
That be the place! I’m pretty boring about food, though, and will only be willing to try the Classic Carol.
Oh man, I can house those…luckily, I’ve only gotten small vending machine bags of them since my surgery.
Back in the day, I was working as part of a tech writing team and we needed to interface with the quality assurance (QA) folks pretty regularly. The lead QA guy appreciated both my personality and the quality of my work, and had seen me eating cheese balls a few times, and after a particuarly challenging delivery he thanked me by leaving one of those giant containers on my desk! To this day, that’s the best thing I’ve ever gotten from a co-worker.
That visual made me smile. Thank you.
Good girl!
(pats shoe on the head…and then runs)
My birthday is 9/21: when I started school the cutoff was in late Sep/early Oct, so I was able to start kindergarten with the other kids born in the same year as me – even though I wasn’t quite 5 yet. When we lived in England for the equivalent of my 7th and 8th grades I went to a British school, and I remember early on being in a meeting with the headmistress and my parents where she told them that normally I’d be a year lower because of my birthday, but they’d evaluated me and I was doing well enough academically to stay where I was. I’ve always been grateful for that, because I think it would have sucked to come back to the States at the very end of 8th grade – to the same school I’d attended from 2nd-6th grades – and be a year behind everyone else.
How ordinary.
Howdy Y’all! Stuff got did and I got into a kinda involved conversation about everything that will happen this Sunday, so it was close to eleven-thirty before we left the church house to go be bears who brunch. Good thing OYKW can be patient at times. OK, that and he snuck off to the kitchen for a snack. Anywho, we et, got back to da cave and achieved nappage followed by day drinkin’. Soon it will be Netflix, chill, and popcorn time. HUZZAH!
Taters hope son is doin’ better today. Antibiotics can make a tummy feel ick, but they are good at what they do for us.
Sticky_Buns sorry the MRI was such a PITA. Hope the doc can explain himself. The great big frilly toothpick looks like fun!
Coppertone hope the new gig works out.
doggio the Liturgical color is also green for Whiskypalians. We are in Ordinary times right now. However, it could get fested up a bit bein’ as the Bishop is comin’, and there are confirmations and receptions in addition to the celebration of new ministry for NP. Has anybody alerted the Colonel about the loose chikin?
JtC OH MY! My heart would have been all a flutter!
We can’t use our phones anymore at irk. They’ve been disabled, and now we can only make calls on Teams. Since I (probably) have the only computer that doesn’t have a microphone and built-in speakers, I have a headset hanging on my second monitor (that I rarely use).
I do have Teams on my Mac (irking from home), but I wasn’t sure how it would work. A little bit ago I got a call on Teams. I can receive calls, and I can talk to the person. Unfortunately, I didn’t know who this person was, what company he was with, or what he wanted. It sounded like a prospecting call, but he said it wasn’t. Oh, well. I hope I didn’t mess anything up for anyone; and it really did sound spammy to me. (He wanted to know if I was the right person to talk to about our SAP or ERP. Obviously not.) Anyway, at least I know I can use Teams on my Mac.
I think I’m insulted!
Two hours at the playground with Tobias. Chicken dinner as been inhaled. Daughter is about to take her spawn home, them peace will reign. Whew!!
I’m off the clock, but I check Outlook from time to time. El Jefe replied to my email that it was a fishing [sic] call, and that I did the right thing.
I hope my ‘playing dumb’ (Yeah, ‘playing’. That’s the ticket!) encourages the guy not to try calling anyone else in the company.
How ironic. My first call on Teams was spam.
Mostly what that does is buy you enough time for the device to dry naturally. During my brief foray receiving insurance phones where I irk, I couldn’t count the number of phones that I had to dig grains of rice out of the port. No wonder it wouldn’t charge.
You’d need an extra wide opening for ape hangers though.
Just why?!?!?!
Irked, was productive all day, came home, took the small beast to the dog park, swung through Sonic and came home. TGIT and a four day weekend!
Stay safe and healthy y’all!
Evening all. Pedaling in place was done and soccer has been practiced (8 year olds can be a chore), dinner has been completed and dishes washed. So tonight will be internettin’ and readin’ for the next few hours. About 80F outside heading down to 66F tonight.
doggio, they actually helped me understand some of the kids better, many do not ‘project’ their voices and can be hard to hear (of course, a lot of them have no troub le being heard).
flyboy, I know your pain, I’m squarely a size 11 3/4, size 11.5 is usually too tight and size 12 is too loose. Hope you get a pair that works for you.
JtC, your stories are always appreciated. And the punch line to this one
was a howler.
Arrrrrrrggggghhhhh…
Oopsie, lovely picture. I saw them in Dubai about 20 years ago, quite a performance. Enjoy the upcoming weekend.
Sticky Buns, hope they will redo it at no charge to you or your insurance.
Well played.
And onward into the night. Catch y’all on Firday.
Happy Thorsday!
Another chilly morning, 49 degrees.
No park today though, I didn’t sleep well last night and was dizzy most of the morning.
I felt a bit better after I ate something.
My son brought some leftover taco meat home, and some rice. It was okay, or maybe it was good and my tastebuds are off.
He also brought cookies but told me I couldn’t have any because some of them had peanuts in them. I think I could have figured out which was which, but I wasn’t interested in them anyway.
I will keep that in mind Red. So far, I haven’t soaked any electronics.
I love cheese balls, can’t keep them around the house.
They are addicting.
FlyBoy, many years ago, back in the olden days, I had just moved and got my new phone number. My very first call was an obscene phone call.
I don’t buy shoes unless I have to. [Full disclosure: I don’t actually have to buy canvas shoes.] For a long time I wore 11. Then 12 seemed to fit better. My Clark chukka boots are 12. My Keens are (and have been) 13. The Converse I bought 20 years ago fit at 10½. With my feet, it’s a crapshoot.
Up from naptime, having a Mai Tai, Smoked Paprika chicken, and salad. Spot is napping on the couch.
Do you have a slider to scale for it, though?
How can someone get sick of Spongebob?
OOOOOOOOOOOOO!
Well, it’s too late to altar the calendar now.
I’m keeping my bottle of Bojangles seasoning in my pocket. Just in case.
Damn, I must be getting older. This surgery coming after the three week trip to Europe has just really taken a lot out of me.
Fortunately, this week is still off at work because of summer vacation, but I haven’t been able to do anything at home.
I just can’t believe how exhausted I am.
Give your body time to heal, sensei. You’ve had surgery and an infection, that’ll zap you for a while.
Yep, cranky is good, feisty is good. Bodes well.
