(Old) A Good Read in the MMP

I’m so over this numb feet and being exhausted thing. Lyme can just f- itself sideways.

sensei Take care of yourself!

Nice formation. Very precisely and cleanly done.

Heh.

I guess I’m helping my fellow Mumpers exercise?

ISWYDT

Long-ass close.

To be fair, some of that was because me, the other closer, and the manager (not Sweet Manager a different one) took quite a bit of time out of our respective duties to talk smack about roughly half the rest of the roster.

Bitches gonna bitch. { shrug } I absolutely assume some of them talk shit about me, too. 'S cool.

At one point, though, things fell quiet - I’d already turned off the exhaust fans, which are LOUD - and I dunno what the other closer was doing, I was wrapping up my last tasks … but suddenly in the quiet kitchen … all we heard was …

“OooopsieSHIT.”

I laughed so hard my abs started to ache.

That became my motto for the remaining half hour or so.
Whatever I was doing? “OoopsieSHIT.”
Lifting something heavy? “OooooopsieSHIT!”

It’s a surprisingly useful word.

Try it!

Up, caffeinated, and sheveled. Off to heave

I shall

Morning, mumpers! It’s currently 14c/57f with a predicted high of 18c/64f, and partly cloudy. Weather app says “Enjoy today. Tomorrow could fucking well suck ass.” Always a possibility, but I think not.

All of ours are Wolverhampton Wanderers, and I live about 10 minutes’ walk from the football ground. Just far enough away not to be bothered by the match-day road closures, but close enough to be annoyed by the parking.

And that is exactly the level of shameless behaviour we expect from you

Same here - no plans tonight then a full day of stuff on Saturday which ends with a birthday party for a friend, then a music festival on Sunday. Good job we have Monday off as it’s a public holiday!

We have landline-type phones on our desks but they rarely ring, most people go through to our reception phone which is on a group pick-up. IT tried to get everyone to switch over to some pc-based phone system that would mean we could pick up our desk phone lines remotely but it didn’t work properly so they abandoned it. Now we also do most of our calls on Teams instead.

That covers most of what I do at work every day!

Sticky Buns realy sorry about the MRI, I hope it was just a paperwork mess-up but how annoying that you have to wait for another one :frowning:

Finally made it to Friday and I haven’t yet hit anyone with a chair. That’s a win! Today’s commute to campus was relatively good, apart from the usual idiots who don’t seem to understand getting on a bus and paying the fare for your journey. Anyway, made it here, the tail end of Storm Lilian is still blowing a hoolie outside but the rain’s stopped so that’s a good thing.

Got a cuppa, had breakfast, and I’m meeting a friend for lunch. And as a bonus, apparently it’s payday today, a week early. The uni has decided that instead of paying us on the penultimate working day of the month, they’re doing it on the Friday before a bank holiday/closed day. Makes no difference to me, I had budgeted for the rest of the month so I can ignore it until this time next week, but I know there are some folks who have no concept of budgets and getting paid unexpected early will totally screw up September for them.

Please enjoy Monkey on my chair. Since taking the pic (and getting Imgr uploaded, etc.) he has completely passed out & is just dead-ass snoring into my ear.

Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN ‘Tis 67 (BRR!) Amurrkin out and clear with a predicted high of 88 and N.O.S. This is positively frigid for August in these parts. I shall cook and debone the chikin for the chikin sallit this mornin’. Outside of that 'twill be a day of large RDOS inactivity. Sup shall be BLTs and fries just cause 'tis easy and nummy.

shoe I believe that is a pic of Monkey on his chair.

sensei your body is recoverin’ from bein’ sick and from an operation. These things take time, especially the older we get. You’ll get back to you soon.

Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then, onward into the day! Rah.

Happy Firday Y’all!

Why do I find this to be outrageously hilarious??

I never would have imagined that feet grow thru adulthood. I wore 8 for years, then 8 anna half. Now it’s 9 anna half, sometimes wide, sometimes not, depending on the shoe. I do know my left foot is just a wee bit longer than the right one. And lately (witness my boat boo-boo) I seem to have issues with raising my feet high enough when I walk. eeeeesh

Illness aside, getting older does take it out of one. My days of 4-5 hours of yard work has devolved into maybe an hour before I need to sit. Which is why my yard looks like crap.

Temp when I dragged myself to the kitchen was 55° but it felt colder outside when I turned Higgs out than it had when it was cooler yesterday. Of course, I showered before coming out this morning since I need to run to Food Lion. The wet hair might have been part of my chill.

Spoilered for those who are tired of my MIL whinery.

Been up since shortly before 4 - MIL was talking loudly, then she got up and was getting her clothes out, saying something about “the girl” telling her to do it. Then asking if “the girl” was in the living room talking to FCD. We got her back into bed, but she was up again looking for her earrings. The hallucinations are getting worse. I’m wondering if the the morphine - the nurse told us to give her 2.5 to 5 ml to help her sleep. But when FCD was given morphine in the hospital, he hallucinated. Maybe it’s genetic?

Now she’s calling her late husband. We don’t know what to do. I’m think maybe we need to call Hospice and see what they say. It’s getting scary - it’s like instant dementia.

I need to run to Food Lion, then FCD is going to the boat - they’re really close to being done, we hope. I know part of the reason he goes is to get away from his mom - it’s really difficult for him, especially after watching his dad die. I can keep a certain emotional distance from it all, except for how it affects him. This dying business sucks majorly.

Anyway, Food Lion opens in about 5 minutes, so I’ll run there, get the few things I need, then come back and attack the laundry. Jessica will be coming to help shower MIL. Not sure what else is in store. I just hope I can stay awake.

Yeah. Whatever. Happy Firday.

Good morning.

It’s 61F and damp outside. Our expected high temperature is 62F, and it will rain much of the day.

Fall is definitely in the air, and I’m happy about that.

I have to drop the dogs off at the vet at 7:00 a.m. because I suspect they have an ear infection. I would have had to wait until 31 August to get them in for a normal appointment, so I have to pay an extra 110 bucks to drop them off so the vet can squeeze them in between appointments. While there, the pups will also get their nails clipped. Maisie’s nails seem especially sharp and are definitely long.

Other than dropping off and picking up the dogs, I don’t have plans for the weekend. I’m behind on laundry since I was gone from early Sunday through Wednesday, and I started catching that up last night. I should steam clean the carpets while the pups are out of the house, but the problem with that is I don’t know exactly how long they’ll be at the vet, so I’d hate to get started only to have to be interrupted to pick the pups up and then try to keep them out of the way.

FCM, I don’t know what to say. I agree; the hallucinations sound scary, and think that calling hospice is the best thing. Mainly, I’d be worried about her trying to walk right out of the house while you were sleeping. I’m sending you all hugs.

JtC, what a hilarious story!

I checked in with my son a couple of times yesterday. It doesn’t sound like he’s doing much better, but he claims he ate a little. What a “little” entailed, I don’t know. I offered to go back down there but was told not to come down. I am frustrated. I don’t know. I think I might tell my husband to check in with my son and offer to come down. Maybe if he does, my son will accept some help. Aaargh. I didn’t hover over my son while there; I always ensured he was comfortable, brought him water, pills, crackers, whatever he asked for, and let him be. He’s much like me in that he does not appreciate hovering, and I respect that. Yes, if he’s cranky, I assume he’s on the road to recovery, but his appetite should be coming back, and it hasn’t, as of last night.

Sticky, I’m sorry about the MRI situation. I hope it got sorted.

Johnny, we, too, are losing our work desk phones. They currently use a Jabber configuration so we can answer calls on our computers. My work cell phone will become my phone number on Teams. I’m not particularly thrilled about that.

Work was crazy busy, which, of course, was not surprising. I took care of many items on my list, but there is much more to do. I am not looking at my work email today, nor will I review and approve funding documents.

Okay, it’s time for some more coffee.

I’d worry, too, except she can’t manage steps, can’t reach the bolt at the top of the front door, and she doesn’t know how to open the garage door. But we will be talking to hospice about what’s going on.

Been to Food Lion and back again. I’ll be gathering the dirties and starting the laundry as soon as FCD has his shower. For now, tho, I can chill a bit.

Awwwww…

:people_hugging: I hope that this is as bad as it gets and that you all find peace soon.

Happy Firday!

Up, caffeinating, breakfasted, bed stripped, sheets / towels in the dryer, clothes in the wash and fixing to do KP / houseirk. After that, I’ll go Krogering and maybe to the dog park.

Stay safe and healthy y’all!

I suffered nerve damage in a skiing accident when I was in high school. While I’ve mostly recovered, the top of my right toe is still numb and I can’t pick it up. (I can’t lift the rest of the foot up much either.) This causes problems if I’m barefoot and my toe hits the carpet at the wrong angle.

Yeah, I went to bed last night thinking today would be Saturday. I guess I forgot that I’d remembered that yesterday was Thursday.

Another short day heaving. At this rate, Spot is going to have to switch to bottom shelf gin. But laundry is spinning.

We have phones, but I’ve never heard them ring. Perhaps they are just for show.

Awww.

Spot doesn’t snore. But he does have one whistling nostril when he sleeps on my head.

{{{{FCM}}}}

We have a phone in the office kitchen area. Unwanted calls are routed there. Nobody remembers the VM password.

Morning all. Got about halfway done and erased the message, so take two:

Up about 7am, decided to do my Firday shopping early so braved the school traffic (not to bad) and went Krogering for bananas, tomatoes, water, and Pepsi (got four 12-packs for $4.99 each with a digital coupon). Then home and treated myself to a big breakfast (pancakes with syrup and bacon) so belly is content. 77F heading to 90F today and still no sign of precipitation in the near future. Swimming and soccer practice are on the agenda, tomorrow the soccer games start so between coaching and refereeing I’ll keep busy most of the day.

Preach it, SIster!!!

:scream:

Sensei, let me get this straight; you went 8-10 time zones away, spent three weeks living there, then came home and had an operation with an infection? Man, a lot of Mumpers (well, me) would be flat on their backs from that! Take care of yourself and let your body recuperate. Oh, {{{hugs}}}

shoe, an admirable addition to the English lexicon. Great pic of Monkey.

boo fae, still have my Wolves cap, had a team that named itself the Wolves a few years ago so I got one for each of them and one for myself.

Good for your work, bad if you are auditioning for a Professional Wrestling job…

FCM, just {{{hugs}}} for what you are going through.

Taters, it’s 90F today, what is this Fall thing you speak of? Hope the doggos get taken care of promptly. And not a bad idea to have Husband-unit check in, a flank attack often works. How big an appetite did son have pre-operation?

OK, after 10am already, so need to get down to some serious internettin’. Have a good Firday all.

I do have this. After having it around for nearly 20 years, I’d hate to drill a hole in it just for a photo opportunity…

I had a phone interview this morning with a recruiter who had very little information about the job. This is the first time that I’ve experienced this. It’s gonna be a no.

Monday I have another interview with a school for a part-time remote position, so that might be the most practical once my knee gets figured out and in case my mobility is greatly challenged for awhile.

Today I talked to my insurance and found out that all I need to do is get a referral from my primary provider to the knee place (can I call it a knee joint??) that I actually like and I can go back there again. He’s not in today, but I’ve left a message for him.

Today’s high temp is supposed to hit the low 80s, but it was still only ~56°F when I took Bailey out this morning: another day I got to start in slippers (vs sandals) and a light jacket! Woo hoo! I have the storm door window open again, and the dog just left it to come lie next to me on her bed. She stood there for at least 2.5 hours, with random forays to drink some water or wander in here to say hello but mostly just checking out her neighborhood. Including watching me haul the biiiiiig trash can to the curb:

Speaking of the storm door, I need a new one. :frowning: The bottom of this one got slightly warped two years ago when the workers removed it in order to replace the concrete steps, but it didn’t bother me until we got the extreme heat earlier this summer and it warped even further. Now, if it slams shut the bottom corner gets stuck and I have to kick it open…and at some point in the past 1-2 months the closer mechanism stopped working*, so these days it always slams shut if I don’t catch it. Last night I had to carry something inside and forgot to catch the door, and I nearly couldn’t get it open again! After that round of kicking, it didn’t want to close fully; it’s currently latched/locked, but just. At first I was planning to simply replace the closer mechanism, but at this point it’s definitely time for a new door. Which means contacting my property manager, who will either be helpful or a PITA (it varies…heh). I’m willing to pay for a new one, (a) because I should have said something two years ago and (b) in order to get the features I want (full view with a retractable screen and a lockable handle). I have to consult my property manager for his general awareness – and so he can agree to the style I want – and I’m hoping he’ll let me pay for a nice one but offer to have a couple of his maintenance guys do the installation. :crossed_fingers:

*Yes, I know how to adjust closers; twisting them in one direction or the other in order to close the door faster or slower. This one is busted.

Somehow I missed it when you posted this the other day, but OMG thank you for telling us about that site! I can definitely see getting a few things from there.

We use Teams regularly. Because I keep my laptop attached to a docking station – i.e., closed and under a monitor stand – I have a small Bose speaker/microphone connected via Bluetooth that works beautifully for calls and meetings. Just FYI, in case the headset ever starts to bug you (and you don’t need to be quiet).

When the current pope got elected, I posted on Facebook that Pope Francis was Jorge Bergoglio’s altar ego.

(I thought it was clever on two levels, but it didn’t get any likes. Maybe none of my friends know how to spell “alter”?)

Fear is pretty much the only reason I ever run.

We have next Monday off (09/02), for Labor Day. I’m looking forward to it so much that I keep having to remind myself that next week is a full week. :joy:

Not only can you, now you must!

I know I’m repeating myself, but this foot numbness thing sucks. I’m actually getting nervous driving my stick shift truck. Slipped off the clutch this morning.

Love that pic.

Aww Monkey

JtC Time to drop another glove? That was hilarious.

FCM :people_hugging: Sucks what you are going through.

Pups are at the vet. Definitely ear infection and Buster’s is worse than Maisie’s. Their behavior at the vet today has been pretty rowdy, so the vet called to ask if they could give the pups something to calm them down. I said yes, of course.

I am also having them run up cost for spay and neuter. If it’s not cost prohibitive, I’ll get them done at the same time. After that, it’s time for obedience training.

Maisie has become very reactive and Buster feeds off that nervous energy. I need them to be calm, especially in public. It was rather embarrassing at the vet today. I plan to pay for today’s visit, and THEN have the techs bring out the pups so we can hussle them into the Jeep right away.

I don’t understand why Maisie has become so reactive. She receives nothing but love and everyone that comes to the give both the pups love. At any rate, I feel pretty badly about all this.

Finally, Maisie is moderately overweight, which I already suspected so I had cut way back on treats. I need to cut back on her food too.

Waiting on the vet to call again so we can pick them up.

We had to call a nurse - MIL was really out of it. She was talking nonsense, or mumbling incoherently. When the aide got here, she saw what was going on and called the office right away and I called FCD to come home.

The nurse seems to think she’s in the end stages of life. He’s ordered a hospital bed to be delivered on Monday, so we’ll need to get the queen bed out of her room after she gets up. I’m hoping SIL can come over and help us get it downstairs.

FCD is a mess. He wants it to be over, but he feels guilty about thinking that. I can be a bit more detached since it’s not my mother, but I understand how he feels. We may bring BIL over to see his mom - it may be that close to the end. One thing for sure - she’s not going to Bible study tomorrow.

My timer just went off - last load is ready to come out of the dryer. It’s been a weird day.

Sticky_Buns, now I’m getting an overwhelming urge to get a giant frilled toothpick to use as a supplemental tree stake. It wouldn’t be tall enough, but it would coordinate really well with my metal chicken (although she lives in the house on an end table right now because we didn’t have the heart to leave her in the yard).

FCM and Taters, my older daughter was always a little wistful that she never got to ride a bus to school. I should ask if that feeling wore off during seven Minnesota winters of public transit to grad school. As for kids starting K before they turn five, I’ve come to believe that it’s almost always better to be among the older kids in class rather than the youngest regardless of academic readiness.

Coppertone, congrats on the job! I hope it works out well for you.

Nettie, good luck with Buddy’s vet visit. Stealing food from siblings is always a good sign in my book!

JtC, I sure hope the new vet can figure something out for Bella soon. It can’t be any more fun for her than for you and GG!

The discussion about building and maintaining bikes indoors makes me remember the winter when Mr. L decided to rebuild a cylinder head on our living room coffee table. We didn’t have a garage, it was cold out, and we were in our early 20’s, so it seemed like a reasonable thing to do.

BooFae, I feel kind of bad about it, but I’m really hoping your neighbors have learned nothing. The bin reports are just too entertaining!

Swampy, I should watch college football. It always seems so much more fun than the pro games. Now that I have a kid working for the University of Michigan, maybe I could start rooting for a decent team instead of the University of NM Lobos.

Red, whenever someone says to bury wet electronics in rice, I always wonder how you’re supposed to get all the rice dust out again. It’s good to know an expert agrees!

Oopsie, that picture is gorgeous! Now I’m wondering if our Blue Angels do something similar. I live just a few miles from an air force base, so we get relatively frequent opportunities to find out, but I’m allergic to crowds nowadays.

Sensei, I’m glad you’re out of the hospital, but you need to remember that resting at home is a necessary part of recuperation.

VanGo, Lyme recovery absolutely sucks. Neuropathy in the feet manages to be serious and just plain annoying in equal measures. I hope it starts fading away faster.

Shoe, sometimes bitching with cow-orkers is worth the extra time it adds to a shift! And I know just how Monkey feels (I also snore, reportedly).

The weather’s finally starting to get a little more tolerable here, in the upper 80s instead of upper 90s for highs and blessedly dropping into the 60s at night. Now, if it’ll just rain more than a trace, outdoors may get enjoyable again!
