(Old) A high seas MMP

So the heaving itself went OK, but somebody left a pallet of electronics for the new RFID upgrade out in the rain last night. Oof.

I’m sorry.

Almost done with my You Tubing, then I plan to take to my bed for some pre-snooze reading, so take care all and I’ll catch up on Sattiday.

Watching Resident Alien S4 Ep1.

You don’t want your living will attached to your will unless those are both at your house and the living will can easily be grabbed as the EMTs wheel the gurney out the door. At the ER/hospital is where you are going to need it to be sure your wishes are followed from the get go. A will isn’t needed for weeks after a death and is hard to access at a lawyers office or in a safety deposit box.

Many doctors will keep a copy of your living will/advance directives in your chart where it can be part of your medical record and easily accessed.

But really, have a copy attached to your fridge with a magnet and make sure it goes with you to the ER/hospital every time. The outside of the fridge is where EMT/first responders are trained to look for ID/medical information/emergency contacts.

I could tell horror stories of what happens to people whose living wills and advance directives were ‘tucked away somewhere safe’ and not found for days.

I think one of our travelling exhibits is there right now. Not one I had anything to do with building, but I put it on a truck. Couldn’t tell which museum it is at either, I’m fairly low on the “who gets to know” chain.

I have incorporated “This is some bullshit” into my parlance. Love me some Alan Tudyk.

JtC, I’m sorry for your loss.

BBBoo - we still have the pouch from Hospice for MIL’s papers. Methinks when we get home, copies of our documents will be stuck on the fridge. You may need to remind me in 2 weeks…

House sitter sent me a photo of Ziva labeled “Proof of life” so she’s apparently adjusting to our absence. Daughter texted “Casey has a boy in the house” so I’m guessing her husband came for a visit. My only other wonder: they’ve been getting a lot of rain - is our lawn hip high? (Weather at home automatically shows up on my phone, so I see all the forecasts.)

It’s first of 3 sea days. The water has been amazingly calm - at most, we’ve felt gentle rocking all the way up on deck 10. FCD is disappointed - he likes rougher conditions. I, on the other hand, am glad his occasional balance lapses aren’t augmented with lots of rocking and rolling.

There are 3 lectures today I’d like to attend. No other plans. Yet. Happy Saturday!
(halfway thru the cruise)

Up, caffeinated, and sheveled. Off to heave. It’s my firday!

If on life support, unplug me. then plug me back in, and see if that reboots things.

I’m very sorry for your loss. May her memory be a blessing to you.

I read a post, I think it was in Not Always Right, about a woman who was upset that the airplane toilets didn’t have window shades. As if anyone could peek in… It got me wondering if anyone with windows or balconies on ships draw the curtains when at sea, because privacy. The partitions between balconies are locked unless you book adjoining cabins. At the moment, there aren’t even sea birds you peek in.

We all have our quirks, I suppose.

Meanwhile, I’m showered and dressed and FCD is taking his turn in the shower. Then off to breakfast and whatever the day holds. Blue sky, sun, and nippy air, which means bundling up if we go out. Not sure if they’ll open the roof over the pool or not. It’s not bad till you get out of the hot tub. So time will tell.

Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN ‘Tis 73 Amurrkin out and clear with a predicted high of 91 and sunny. The big item on today’s agenda is to be Lector (the non-cannibal kind) for a funeral at ten a.m. The funeral is for a woman who attended the church many years ago, but she and her husband moved away due to his job. I remember them from way back at the old church house. The funeral service will be in the chapel. I guess a big crowd is not expected cause the chapel holds about forty people, but it’s possible to shoehorn in fifty. She will be plopped in the columbarium and there will be a small reception afterwards. The rest of the day will be spent in high RDOS inactivities. Sup will be leftovers from last night.

Lily Happy Doperversary!

Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then purtification for funeralizin’ must commence.

Happy Sattidy Y’all!

Mornin’ all - About 0720 as I start driveling. A warm and sunny day out there with a bunch of puffies and a couple rain showers. That pattern should hold all day. Might get wet right here, but probably not.

Successfully ate nearly nothing yesterday. Had my monthly yak w my finance guy. Steady as she goes, and mind the intermittent tsunamis seems to be the upshot of that convo. Did finish the last half of the wine bottle from Thu’s accidentally solo Feaste. Had to; otherwise it’ll get old & nasty. Beyond that, a quiet day and a good nap was had.

Awoke today well-rested & recharged. Yaay! Today has mini-groccing, probably a car wash, and definitely some breakfast; I’m finally hungry again, albeit not starving. Might kill some laundry. Otherwise, the word of the day is RDOS.

As to y’all

Flyboy: Surrey & the train sounds like just the ticket (heh  ) for a fun weekend jaunt. And yeah, who needs angry people?

Yes, Happy Doperversary to Lily!!

Lotta people live by their habits, not by decisions made in light of current circumstances.

On the Virgin ships there is one public restroom nestled amongst the restaurants and rec facilities that has floor to ceiling windows about 10’ wide as one wall of the facility. So you can wash your hands or, if male, use the urinals with a fine wall-to-wall floor-to-ceiling view of the outside world gliding by. I think the corresponding ladies’ room is similarly windowed. No provisions for shades or drapes; that place might get a little less use in port depending on which side of the ship is facing the dock.

On a ship or in a hotel I pull the blackout drapes closed before sleep so my wake-up time isn’t driven by twilight then sunrise. Other than that it’s all wide open. My bedroom here has vertical blinds, so not fully blackout but same idea: closed to sleep, wide open otherwise. Heck, if it’s warm enough I’ll be sleeping or shagging out on the balcony. No privacy needed for me/us; rather the opposite.

Ex-wife HL always kept all window coverings drawn. Mostly for an overweening sense of privacy. Not worth my effort to type it up in any detail, but she freaked out if she wasn’t fully dressed and there was any way a light beam could pass from the outside world to her, even if it had to hit 3 mirrors just right to do so. Sigh.

Happy weekend to those who celebrate!!

Cheers all - Onward into the slothful day.

Morning all. Slept till 6am and then answered the bladder alert and decided it wasn’t worth putting myself back to bed so we’ll see how it goes. A bit cooler, looked at my lawn and it was dew, dew, dew looking out my back door. Heading to 93F so may do mowage this evening, we’ll see how it goes. Otherwise nothing much in the plan.

BBBoo, thanks for the advice, nothing in my health says I’m passing away soon, but still might look to have my paperwork more readily available.

Never got into watching Resident Alien, but might do so one of these days.

FCM, hope the cruise line has contigencies for keeping a couple thousand people entertained for 3 days on-board. As for the curtains for balconies, I seldom if ever open them if I am not…appropriately dressed, even when out at sea. Just old habits, I guess, much like pilot notes.

And nearly time for the Frosted Flakes to break my fast. Have a good weekend all.

Morning, folks.

It’s 61°F and sunny outside. Well, honestly, the sun is just barely up, but there is sun. We expect a high of 85°F, and once again, it’ll be clear all day. In truth, there is no rain expected for at least another 10 days, and temps will climb into the 90s tomorrow. Blech.

JtC, I’m so sorry for your and the family’s loss. Please accept my deepest condolences.

Well, the planned walk around a trail or park has morphed into a walk around downtown and then the farmer’s market. That’s okay, too. I haven’t been to the market in many years, so maybe I can snag some fresh fruit or vegetables while there. I need to hop into the shower in a bit, so I’m ready to go about an hour before the market opens.

Happy Dopeversary, Lily.

FCM, your post about shades in airplane bathrooms immediately brought to mind the Twilight Zone with William Shatner, who sees a creature on the airplane wing. I mean, if you’re seeing something outside your window thousands of feet in the air, there is something seriously wrong.

Depending on when I return from the walk and how hot it is, I’ll have to see about getting that back lawn mowed. It’s high on the dogs’ side of the yard, in the spots where grass is growing anyway. The dog-free zone was thatched a couple of weeks ago, and doesn’t need cutting as it’s still mostly dirt and slow to fill in. It’s is filling in, but the growth is low and tender.

I bought a couple of All-Clad Hard-Anodized pans from Amazon a good while ago. I highly recommend them. They still look brand new, have some heft, and perform beautifully.

Alrighty, I need to hop in the shower. I hope you all have a peaceful day.

Thanks for asking. After tossing out two cans of food that she didn’t touch, she finally started eating late yesterday, then polished off another can overnight and went for it again this morning. So whatever had her off her feed is apparently now resolved. She does swallow a lot of hair, so maybe she had a clog that needed to clear.

Smoky skies this morning from the Canada fires. If only they would rake their forests. . .

:grinning_cat:

Who turned out the lights?

Last week, Mrs. L.A. said that one of the bulbs in her ceiling light was out. This fixture is a PITA because there’s a decorative thing over a nut. Due to the decoration, the nut is rather thin and hard to get on and off. I think it changes width, as the adjustment on the crescent wrench is either too wide or too narrow.

A few days ago, one of the lights on the stove hood went out. We don’t have a spare. I swapped the lamps. The working one did not work in the other socket, and the presumably burned out lamp did not work in the working lamp’s socket. I hope I don’t have to remove the hood to look at the wiring. That’s a gigantic PITA.

Yesterday, Mrs. L.A. said the other bulb in her ceiling fixture burned out.

This morning, she said one of the bulbs in the kitchen light was out. Fortunately, the kitchen fixture has a decorative knob over the decorative/force-spreading disc. Not a problem to change bulbs. I noticed that one of the bulbs is one of those spiral Compact Fluorescent Lamps. I wonder how long that’s been up there!

Happy Saturday!

Up, caffeinating, breakfasted and fixing to do KP. It’s a bit of a hurty day, so I’ll try to work out the kinks, but otherwise, take it easy.

Stay safe and healthy y’all!

Low volume, low wreckage day, I was out by 10. Last time I got out before 11 on a Saturday was when New Year’s Eve fell on it. Anyways, laundry, bacon and eggs, gin&tonic and naptime on the agenda. In that order.

Only half the superheros on the planet.

We’re leaving at 0930. It’s only 18 miles to the train, which leaves at 1130, but you never know how the border is going to be. Guess I’d better finish getting dressed.
