(Old) A high seas MMP

One of my sisters freaked out over my clear shower curtain, even tho she was alone in the bathroom. I don’t get it…

taters - I remembered the same Twilight Zone episode. I think it was remade with John Lithgow (too lazy to look it up.)

Speaking of mowage, Daughter said she planned to do it today. Apparently, there’s a break in the rain.

Smooth cruising continues under blue skies. Max chillage.

Happy Doperversay, susan! :shortcake:

Ahhhh, Saturday! It was very nice to not set an alarm this morning, and get a good night’s sleep. It was also nice to take my time putzing with personal administrivia all morning: paying bills, organizing some computer files, starting some doggy laundry, and throwing away the plastic floor liner I’d been trying in the kitchen as a traction aid for Bailey. I had to tape down the persistently curled edges so the dog wouldn’t trip on then (even after weighting them down for a few days), which was annoying, but the experiment ended when I discovered that the liner stopped being nonslip upon getting wet – which defeats the purpose. The waterproof pads are still better for Bailey’s traction if she pees on them, so the plastic liner came up and the pads went back down.

I have no plans today, and I’m happy about it. I’m looking forward to having the last of the leftover pizza for lunch, catching up on new episodes of a few shows, then watching more Dallas Cowboys cheerleaders tryouts. I’m at the end of S13 – the 2018-2019 squad – of the Country Music Television (CMT) show; there are just three seasons left. Whenever I’m done I’ll likely re-watch at least the first season of the Netflix docuseries, because I feel like there are things in the CMT shows that weren’t mentioned in 2024 and I want to check. I might also rent Men In Black II later today, because on a whim I rented Men In Black last night.

:joy: …but I tell ya: if I’m ever at a fancy place and tater tots are an option, I’m getting them!!

That’s about par for the Star Wars figures: R2-D2 was 1050 pieces, C-3PO was 1138, and Chewbacca was 2319.

That’s a very sweet plush Ewok story.

I had my first – and so far only – surgery at 50 (bariatric surgery).

:waving_hand: !

:people_hugging:

Me, too!

Same (though I’ve only been on a ship once).

Unless I have a compelling reason to believe that someone might actually see inside when I don’t want them to – e.g., an NYC hotel room window facing/so close to a neighboring building’s window that we could loan each other a book – I only draw curtains for light-prevention reasons. Even at home: it works out that no one in the houses behind mine can see my bedroom’s back window (someone would have to be in my yard), so I only close those blinds to keep the morning sun out. My eat-in-kitchen’s window is on the same wall, and similarly unviewable; I keep those blinds open all of the time.

Hooray!!

Ugh, I’m sorry. I hope you’re able to feel better soon!

I have one of those, too! I’d rather have more light in the shower than some kind of fancy curtain no one else will ever see.

Work was a lot this week and next week is looking increasingly uncooperative as well. I should probably log on tomorrow and try to knock some things out, so I need to maximize errands and chillage today.

The last time I bought cat food the store was out of the salmon flavor and only had the turkey. The cats were most definitely not pleased with such a dramatic decrease in their quality of life. Every time I refill the bowl they smell it, sit down and huff before begrudgingly eating. Picky little free-loaders. But it’s about time for a new bag and none of the stores near me have the salmon flavor in stock. So I will drive 30 minutes across town instead so the boys can resume living in the manner in which they are accustomed to.

JtC I’m sorry for your loss

Happy Doperversary Lily!

flyboy good luck with the lights. And when you’re done feel free to swing by here and change a few more out :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:

red when are you moving to Houston? Do you have a set date yet or is that still up in the air? I would find it so hard to remotely pick my next living space - you are fortunate your sister is there (and that you can trust her judgement lol)

How would she handle a glass shower door?? I personally struggle with not being able to see out of the shower, especially living alone. The house always manages to make some weird noise when my hair is full of shampoo.

Argh, and today’s aggravation - my neighbor’s dogs keep finding a way into my yard. They’ve all been very sweet when approached (although the Cane Corso mix looks absolutely terrifying he’s just a big baby) and have been easily returned home. I’ve also told the neighbor he can let himself into the yard when needed to get them. But this is beginning to really aggravate me because 1) my gate doesn’t shut completely so the dogs can get to the street, 2) he’s doing half-ass “repairs” to his fence that the dogs defeat and 3) just now a dog I’ve never seen before was in my yard and with no collar. I was going to investigate just as the neighbor showed up - it’s a new dog they just rescued and she already got out.

I hesitate to tell my landlady because I don’t think she should be out any money to fix a fence to keep his dogs contained to his yard. The gate is probably something I should ask her to fix but again, I don’t want her out any unnecessary $$ and it’s just a chain link gate - there’s nothing stopping those dogs from going over it if they’re motivated to do so.

I just wish he’d fix his fence. I’d feel terrible if they also got out of my yard and were hurt or lost :frowning:

I’m sorry. {{{JtC}}}

We watched the very first episode and never got around to watching the second one. Maybe we’ll give it another try sometime.

We do, but mainly for light issues. And when the ship is docked and we’re on the dock side.

Yay! :smiling_cat_with_heart_eyes:

I read this as a hurly day. Which I would consider to be worse. Hope the kinks are unkinking.

:worried: Does that mean Spot’s going to have to learn to accept cheap gin?

Finally got the top of the hedge trimmed and cut back the bushes around the spigot, so it’s easier to turn on/off the water. Hubby vacuumed and cleaned out the track for the glass panels. I think he didn’t get around to oiling the mechanism - something to do tomorrow.

We did make it to the farmer’s market in time to buy strawberries, and I made another strawberry pie, which we’re going to cut into fairly soon.

I sure hope you told her the reason for the clear curtain was so she could see the slasher coming and scream before he got to her.

JtC I’m sorry about your cousin.

Speaking of colonosocopies. Got my EOB from Blue Cross which is my supplemental insurance (in keeping with the RDOS society , my primary is Medicare). The hospital charges alone (not including the physician charges) were $27,983.65. I’m gobsmacked.

Jtc, may her memory be eternal.

The usual shopping trip this morning. This time I added takeout. Got a peach milkshake.

Back home and due to post surgery restrictions, a very chill weekend until back to work on Monday.

Howdy Y’all! The funeral was nice but sparsely attended as predicted. The chapel was just right. After Debby got plopped down in the columbarium there was a reception. I was just gonna pop in to speak to family, but there were little pimento cheese sammiches, little cream puffs, little brownies, grapes, strawberries and lemonade. Who could resist that! So I had lunch. Even with that I was back in da cave by eleven-thirty. Nappage then ensued. We were not up for leftovers, so OYKW has gone to get us stoner food for sup. Thus is the news from swampland.

Thank you and others kindly!

I have one too for the same reason as oopsie.

The plan is late August or early September. Right now, I’m ready to get this all over with.

I did get most of the kinks out and took Nelson to the dog park. Sis toured the first apartment today and it’s a no-go. She said it had a musty smell about it and the one bedroom units didn’t have W/D hook-ups (the ad showed that they did). There’s an appointment Monday and one Wednesday, so keep your appendages crossed.

And a good late afternoon to all. Spent a good portion of the afternoon at the gym and the rest of it reading and watching women’s soccer, so just getting ready for pasta Saturday in a little bit. No rain today and it’s still 91F so just as well that I’m waiting until tomorrow to do mowage (probably in the AM before it really gets hot again). Did manage to clean the bathrooms and vacuum the carpet so some house-irk was performed. Tomorrow is going to be Krispy Kreme Day, I will go to the shop they have and get some hot, fresh glazed, the only question is how many (because they won’t last the day with me…heck, probably won’t make it out of the morning) and one must not go too deeply into sugar overload. Otherwise a quiet night is expected.

taters, hope you enjoyed the walk and the market. And the Twilight Zone episode with Shatner was “Nightmare at 20,000 Feet” and it was (as mentioned by FCM), rebooted with John Lithgow some years later, but the original was the best.

Cookie, glad Sadie is apparently feeling better.

Flyboy, I have a bulb out in the ceiling light over my bed, but to get to it I’ll have to move the mattress and the springs and since one light is still working I’ll just bide my time until it burns out too. Hope you enjoyed the excursion.

Depends on what level you’re on; I was on deck 13 and in most places we stopped they would have needed a crane to get a sneak peek.

And a happy dopeversary lily!

Oopsie, a day with no plans leaves you lots of options..for me, it’s mostly sloth…

52, I see your feline overlords have you well-trained… And hope something gets done about the free-roaming dogs before they become too used to it.

Dicey, enjoy the pie.

rocky, take it easy.

red, all appendages crossed that the perfect apartment shows up soon. Took me about 18-20 house visits before I found the place I’ve been living for the greater part of 28 years now. It was worth it and hope your new digs are too.

And off to perform the necessary bathroom activities and fix some dinner, so take care all.

I think that some people have an atavistic reaction to open windows while vulnerable. I suspect it goes back to the cave days when folks didn’t want a saber tooth tiger to be able to see that they were defenseless.

I have made it a point to go out to the fences and look in our windows during the day as well as after dark, no matter what home it was. It is really hard to see inside windows unless you are right up close - or the subject is right close to the window.

We just use our thermal curtains for light and temp control, both of us figure that anyone willing climb over our fences to look in our bathroom window while we are on the terlet deserves everything they get.

Oh, not good. I’m glad you will be able to solve the problem soon.

Oh, good thought! One of our CCW* class instructors (there have been many over the years) told us to always have clear shower curtains or glass doors so you could see if an intruder was hiding in the shower.

If it comes up again in another class, I’ll try to remember your concern as well

That is the worse part of moving-finding a good place. I sure hope Sis likes the ones next week better! I’m glad you got out and moved your body around, that’s gotta help a little. At least it does for me when I get hurty.

So it seems as though funeral country wide are pretty much the same.

Cousin will have a church service with praying and singing, then her ashes (she’s being cremated today) will be given to her husband. Next will be a potluck in the church hall where everyone will sit around and catch up while sharing stories about cousin.

The exact date is still up in the air, folks need travel time. I’ve already told Hubs that we have to book our room as soon as we know because Ronceverte is a small town and he has a big family.

We need to find a new cat-sitter, we were using our housekeeper, but she got a real job with full time hours and benefits and fired us. I’m still not sure why we put money in her Good-bye card.

The young lady (14) that lives next door has mentioned that she’s looking for a way to make money. I suggested to Hubs that we could probably trust her, she lives right next door and is the grandchild of a preacher man. He reminded me that he’s the grandchild of a preacher man…

The cats will be fine overnight, but it would just make us feel better if someone checked on them just in case.

*Concealed Carry Weapons. You spend 7 hours learning how to avoid using your gun and all of the legal and civil consequences involved in using your gun - and an hour shooting.

metalmouse and others: Back when I owned and mowed lawns I did not much care about wet or dry hot or cold. Just kill it and move on to the next task. If today was gonna be hot, first thing in the morning sufficed.

I hope your market proves fun and contains actual, you know, food. So-called “farmer’s markets” around here, despite significant agriculture not that far away, have largely turned into craft fairs, plus somebody selling seconds from the local produce industry wholesalers’ warehouses.

Cookie hooray for a hungry cat again.

flyboy: spiral CFLs ought just now to be hitting their design lifespan. So many were shite and died far before their advertised life. If you’re losing several lamps now, good bet the lot was replaced more or less all at once and is rapidly approaching EOL. Once you drag out a ladder or a drag in a handyman, might want to pro-actively inspect everything that’s a) still working and b) hard to reach, then replace nearly all of those with fresh modern lamps.

I slept in hotels for ~15 days a month for 34 years. That’s a lot. I always looked out to see what could be seen. About 1 year before retirement I saw my first set of naked people. Exiting the bathroom in turn having showered.

It’s darn hard to see into most rooms even before you add drapes. Between geometry, distance, reflectivity, interior lighting vs daylight / night , etc., Whole lotta people worry about shit that isn’t going to happen.

Hmm. I don’t much care either way, but I do know a translucent plastic curtain stays a lot more apparently clean than a clear curtain or clear glass wall/door. Clear plus water always equals spotted and dirty, while translucent plus water = translucent.

Sorry about the neighbor dogs. Time to get firmly but politely fussy w neighbor, not landlord.

It’s also important to be clear in your own mind that you cannot care more for his critters than he does. If his critter escapes his yard and is killed by a car or coyote that’s 100% on him. if it passes through your yard on the way, well, that’s 0% on you and 100% on him. Rehearse that idea until it becomes natural for you. I fully expect you’re gonna need it later.

Any excuse for extreme RDOSing is a good excuse.

@missred: good luck on the shorter list of apartments. I’m confident you’ll find a winner even if you have to move twice to do so.

My late wife’s 2nd or 3rd career was personal trainer. Before she got too sick she was a very fierce creature. Very sweet, but very fierce. Anyhow, one of her mottos was “You can’t out-train a bad diet.”

I sure experienced that yesterday & the day prior. Sounds like you like to try that experiment too. Just sayin’, and boy do I understand the attraction of trying.

Not mine; Alfred Hitchcock’s. That dude had some weird primal fears. The only thing worse than a human slasher in a bathroom was a covey of crows in the bathroom. Excuse me, a murder of crows.

Those folks, & their wimmin, are nuthin’ but trouble.

See, I’m CDO enough that there were no water spots on our clear glass doors. I made sure there was a squeegee in the shower and used it faithfully after every shower.

The slasher didn’t disturb me as much as the mummy in the wheelchair!

Mom lived in Half Moon Bay during the filming of that movie, so we watched it every time it was on. The crows were animated, most of the birds were drunk sea gulls. (they fed them whiskey and wheat to keep them from flying away) The black birds were actually starlings.

Dang, I’m such a font of useless information, LOL!

As to me …

Nice day & night here. Balconated up some sunbathe in the morning, went out for a Rachel sandwich for first meal lunch & skipped the bread. Mini-groc stop then an RDOS afternoon was next. Narrowly avoided a nap. Did one minor house repair.

Then got dolled up & free-ubered out for dinner (Caprese salad, bleu cheese bacon Cajun burger, steak fries with KETCHUP dammit  and a couple of nice Cabernets) and a show at the local live venue featuring this dude: Raul Midón. A blind sorta-black guy who performs alone w a guitar, voice, and bongos. Except he can play the guitar one-handed and can make a perfectly credible string bass or trumpet using his voice. So he’s the drummer, the bass line, the melody instrumental, and the vocalist. All by himself. All at once. Truly mind boggling multi-tasking skill.

No sequencers, no backing iPad karaoke-like Music minus 1. Just him, acoustic guitar & bongos, a couple of mikes, and raw talent. You gotta hear some of his work. raul midon - YouTube Search.

When that ended I walked to a nearby swanky joint to see who was cute at the bar and who was playing music. The music was a cute singer chick and an iPad. Nothing compared to Raul, but nice enough. The bar crowd was a) ancient, and b) all coupled up. Had a very nice Martini alone then walked home in the warm cozy 9pm evening.

Meanwhile GF has had a productive day with Mom & we’re both missing each other to death. Sigh. Real soon ain’t nearly soon enough.

Speaking of soon … Bedtime soon here.

Cheers all!

Late night final here, got things to get done before bedtime, got my Nielsen stuff in the mail today (I think I mentioned that I am now a Nielsen viewer for the ratings) and need to check the stuff out and see how it works. Then do some reading pre-sleepage.

Pilot, your late wife was undoubtedly right, but I do try and eat reasonably healthy (munching on carrots as I type this), but the occasional (only the second KK run of the year) and measured ‘I don’t care’ eating is what makes life fun, as you well know…

JtC, looks like there are a fairly sizeable number of hotels in Lewisburg, about 5 miles from Ronceverte. But early booking are always good.

 Despite that, I’d give her the chance.

And that’s all for today. Catch y’all tomorrow.

Thank you so much for reminding me about how small WV is. We will be driving our own car, many of the family will be in rentals. It will be no problem at all for us to drive further and its not like the next hotels are 30 miles away anymore.

I’m still thinking about that, LOL!

Oh, hail no! I’ve had 3 apartments in 27 years because I hate packing my belongings, including my studio up. We’ll get this right the first time.

Up from naptime. Laundry is put away, had a Sazarac and chicken stirfry with 2 kinds of 'shrooms. Had popcorn with Mongolian Fire Oil and Szechuan peppercorns for dessert.

:champagne::shortcake::partying_face:HAPPY DOPERVERSARY LILLY!!!:partying_face: :shortcake: :champagne:

Wacky fun!

If Carol and Donlad keep it up, yeah.

If you toss in a grenade before you shower, it’s not a issue.

I  you.

So say we all.

Actually, I don’t replace lamps proactively. I wait for failure, and only replace the failed unit. There’s never been a cluster like this before.

As for Surrey… We were expecting an hour long excursion on a 1913 electric railcar. It turns out that that trip (Sullivan Excursion) is on Sundays. We did the Heritage Rail Adventure. After poking around the station (an exact replica of the original, only it had washrooms instead of outhouses), we boarded the train. We went very slowly for a mile or so, then backed up. It was cool being in a century-plus-year-old vehicle. We went to another car that is in a hangar, and watched a video presentation of the history of the lines. Next came the interactive portion. I operated their velocipede, and it was fun. Too short, though. They gave me a badge/button that says ‘I Rode The Velocipede.’ The Missus didn’t want to try it. Next, I operated a similar contraption that sat four people. It had two handles for propulsion. I happened to be the brakeman, so I could propel it and also apply the brake at the appropriate time. Again, too short. Then there was a ride in a sort of ‘maintenance trailer’ pulled along the tracks by a small (pick-up sized) diesel-powered engine.

It was an informative trip, and I liked it. Mrs. L.A. was being driven craze by every septuagenarian and octogenarian docent asking, ‘Is this your first time here?’ Sometimes more than once. It’s nice that they have a passin and a purpose, but it was a little too much. It took two hours to get home from the pub next door to the train. Most of that was sitting in traffic at the border crossing. :frowning:
