(Old) A high seas MMP

There is room service, for a price. But we lack a table to make eating other than a little snack practical. We did finally make it to breakfast.

We’re about to hear a talk on shipwrecks. And we’ve decided we don’t want to see tonight’s show. It’s called SING! and neither of us were much impressed with the ship’s company singers. Maybe we can find a movie we want to see in our cabin.

OK, Lecture about to begin…

Happy cake day, JtC and liirogue!

When I was in high school I spent summers at the local University in a program for disadvantaged kids. We spent the summers living in the dorms and taking entry level college courses. The people who ran this program locally were theater buffs.

One summer we went to the Twin Cities and visited the program there. We saw Shakespeare’s Julius Caesar at the Guthrie Theater and two more rather avant garde plays in smaller community play houses.

As a kid from the ghetto, I developed my love of live theater in that program

Mowage (and a fair amount of sweatage) is complete, I made the mistake of getting the 30-gallon trash bags instead of the heavy-duty 39-gallon bags so ended up with 6 bags of clippings. But at least it is done (for about 8-10 days, then I have to do it again). Still considering gym time, but pretty knackered (as boo fae would say) so may just do the sloth thing.

Out of curiosity, I looked it up and it’s based on a old poem that has had several names, a couple being rude and one just plain unrepeatable, over time. You can find it pretty easy if you want.

Flyboy, just a lot of people traveling or hassles at the border?

Taters, sounds like the Farmer’s Market was good for you. Hope there is a repeat visit in your near future.

Oopsie, enjoy the play and good luck with the tickets. And thanks for the picture, I don’t drink coffee or eat pumpkins, but then again, I didn’t eat 17 donuts either…but maybe one of these days… And like FCM noted, most cruises will provide room service, but at an additional cost.

52, happy doper anniversary. And good move beating the storm home.

JtC, and another happy doper anniversary! What is the old story about the minimum number of people you can have before two of them have the same birthday?

Never been much for live theater, have liked the few productions I’ve seen but just can’t been bothered to get tickets and go…different strokes, I guess. But glad that you enjoy it, hippie.

And time to…I don’t know, maybe nothing (I can do nothing real good). Be back in a bit.

We are out of the Sound and back in the thick of fog. Bunches of pics on FB. If you haven’t yet joined my cadre of friends and would like to (some of the pics are worth it) feel free to message me for a link.

Today is winding down - we’ll head down for supper shortly. Then vegetating for the balance of the day. Followed by one more day at sea. Land on Tuesday in Paamiut.

For the LEGO people:

It is not real LEGO, but a knock off. It was fun to build for my wife’s sewing room

And Then There Were None, formerly Ten Little Indians, originally Ten Little Niggers.

Howdy Y’all! We deheathenated and then et sammiches, followed by nappage. We finished an early sup of leftovers a bit ago. Also, the biiiiiig trash can has been hauled all the way down to the road for pickup tomorrow. I hear thunder rumbles in the distance.

JtC and 52 Happy Doperversary!

Late morning I had gone down to the beach for sun & sand & such. Was real sunny & real hot, but the water was magnificent. All is right with the world.

Then the booming started, followed by the rain. And rain. And rain. And more booming. And more rain. Fortunately, as the deluge approached I found my way to a nearby barstool enough ahead of the crowd that there was a barstool to be had. Equally fortunately, the parking meters in this town are pay-by-app, so I could feed the meter from the comfort of my stool. Some shit here in the 21st Century is really neato.

Yummy scallops, blackened mahi, grilled veg, and a couple mojitos took care of any lingering morale issues. It eventually stopped sky-dripping & I went home; there wasn’t going to be any more bright sun today despite several hours yet to sunset.

Now casting about for the evening’s activity. Sorta too fed & watered to want, much less need, to go out, but also sorta bored here w 4+ hours to go until bedtime.

It’s an uncomfortable 88 ferrets outside. I have set up the AC in the bedroom, and it’s deliciously cool in there.

I gave all the plants in both the front and back a deep watering this morning.

We set up the pool for the doggos, but they didn’t stay out there for very long.

I am now in the middle of laundry and won’t mind folding, hanging and putting away because the bedroom is so nice and cool.

Finally, I took some pics of the posies in the back and posted them on the book of faces.

It sounds like you hit one of the good ones. My local favorite actually has restrictions on where the items for sale are produced; within 100 miles of Wilson County, TN. That allows for some of the early peaches from Georgia and breads, jellies and jams from the Mennonite community in Scottsville, KY.

Got the Krogering done. I picked up one of the personal sized watermelons since they were on sale for $1.50. I’ll get it chunked up tomorrow and put in a bowl in the fridge for snackage. On the way there, there were a few drops of rain, but by the time I got home, it was a downpour. I didn’t get there as early as I planned, so had to dodge the church crowd. Apparently, they were short handed because they had no one on buggy duty and thus, they were all out in the parking lot.

Wait… Where are you? Seared scallops? And the rest? I’ve been longing for such a meal. I could eat it three times a week! (Maybe some warm-water spiny lobsters to break things up. )

I just checked. From your town to that eatery Google says it’s 3,366 driving miles = 49 hours’ drive. So compared to some of your worst commutes, not bad.

There are not too many pairs of 48-state Americans who live farther apart than you and I. Especially not that know each other; IRL or virtually.

These scallops weren’t simply seared. Though those are yummy too. Their description is

It’s a 5-portion appetizer and they are stupid-tasty.

And good early evening all. Made it to the gym for about 75 minutes then got home just before thunder started rumbling and now it is raining pretty steady, so cutting the grass this morning turned out to be a good idea. Nothing else is planned the rest of the day outside of making up the next week’s agenda, which should look a lot like this weeks.

Hippie, nice build, but I’m more curious about the diagram in the background…

Pilot, sounds like we both dodged the raindrops, however your choice of where to ride it out at is superior.

Taters, 86F here and that’s about average for the next couple of months.

And that’s all for now.

That is adorable!

On my morning puttering about on Friday getting ready for work, I decided to tidy the bedside drawer. I realized I did not have any glasses at all in the drawer.

Still surreal.

:joy:

Except for Point Roberts (which you can only get to if you drive through Canada, or else fly or sail), we’re as far north and west as you can get in the contiguous United States.

The electric sign set up at the side of the road says that several blocks in Blaine will be closed due to construction from Monday until November 10th. There will be different ‘phases’ so the closure sign may be inclusive rather than practical. Anyway, Paso del Norte and Chada Thai are in the closure area. They’ll be open, but a little more difficult to get to – especially Chada Thai, as it’s on the harbour side of the street. So I went to get some Thai takeout for dinner tonight. I had Yum Beef salad (5 stars). I also got assorted appetisers. I had a Spring roll and a chicken satay. Mrs. L.A. had a crab racoon (or two), and a Thai iced tea. She has not touched her lemon chicken, and neither of us has touched the Thai BBQ chicken I got to ensure leftovers.

See how clever you are!!!

I was rather surprised when Pilot said that about water spots. That man is all about efficiency after all.

Oh, such a trial!

It all sounds yummy!

How very cute!

I’m glad you had a good time.

When is your show? How big will the event be? I do love craft fairs.

Nah. You are human. I’m glad you got it done.

We replaced all of the bulbs in our last house when we moved. We had the bulbs already and didn’t want to pay to move them across country.

There are no original light fixtures in this place, we replaced them and the bulbs will of course all fail at the same time.

This is why cats come in so handy. Whenever something like that happens to me, I assume one of them walked across my keyboard. Check to see if you accidentally put it on Ignore, that only takes three keystrokes.

You will be in good company! I started in with them the same day I found out, LOL!

I hope you enjoyed!

It’s still super cute!

I keep trying to take my glasses off when I’m going out in the rain. It’s amazing

So, back from the capital and my garb is just coming out of the dryer. I had things to say, but I need to deal with that now lest I have to spend extra time ironing.

She has touched her chicken. I can have her broccoli.

Yep. I’m not to the extreme tip of FL but there’s only another ~200 miles to go to the southernmost point in Key West. I’m not far from the easternmost point in FL, but most of the US eastern seaboard is east of all of FL.

Before my last post I also looked at the drive from Imperial Beach California, just north of Tijuana, to a small town similar to yours right where Maine ends and Canada begins.

I was surprised to see the distance there was within 50 miles of the distance on the other diagonal between you and me. Oddly, driving from your place to the corner of Maine is a couple hundred miles farther than either diagonal. That route has to go down and around the Great Lakes, which adds some distance.

‘T.J.’, as we called it in San Diego.
