(Old) A high seas MMP

Changed my mind and bought a v👀 on Amazon seeing as it was $17 and will be here tomorrow. (How y’all like that `spelling’??? :winking_face_with_tongue:

Mornin’ y’all.

It’s 60 degrees and sunny outside. Once again, it’ll be sunny all day, with an expected high temperature of 87 degrees.

JtC, I am so sorry about your husband’s cousin. I hope you all can find a solution.

I had to get a RealID years ago because I worked on a major military installation. They decided that in addition to our CACs, we were all required to have a real ID or passport. Since I didn’t have a passport, getting the ID was easy, and my license was about to expire anyway, I opted to do that. I don’t regret it.

However, my husband does not have a Real ID, and obtaining one is complicated by the fact that he lost his SSN card years ago and needs to get a replacement to obtain the Real ID—complete PITA. I’ve been on him for years to do it, and he just won’t.

I have been awake since around 3:00 this morning, but gave up trying to sleep at 4:45 a.m. and took a shower. I have an appointment to get my hair done-did at 9:00 a.m. Since I’m out and about, I might go to the hardware store or a plant nursery afterwards. We’ll see. I’d like to obtain some salad fixings since I have a hankering for a good, crunchy salad.

JtC, I’ll try to remember to snap some more pics of the garden. When I do post, I usually do so on FB. PM me for an invite, if you’d like.

Nellie, I’m very happy the meds are kicking in and your back is doing a little better.

I’m glad Hippie, his wife, and Boo had a pleasant visit.

My husband has had facial hair since I’ve known him. Usually, it’s just a mustache, but he also occasionally has a little beard growing in. Occasionally, he’d shave everything off, and both the kids and I would tell him to let it grow back.

It’s that time again; time for more coffee. You all take care of yourselves. The day feels strange if I can’t start it with all of you.

Up, caffeinating, breakfasted and fixing to do KP. I need to sign the insurance docs this morning and take out the trash. Other than that, same / same.

Stay safe and healthy y’all!

The heat index was 90 degrees Ferret Height at 0400 this morning, and they were sending people home. So you can guess how the day went. There was a bunch of left in building stuff(but not my circus, not my monkeys), and I loaded 200 Middle Red. Which meant I go zero air from the fans. I had to hang up my dirty clothes when I got home, because they were soaking wet with sweat.
Also,

Aldi, WTF?

< Uri Geller takes posthumous victory lap >

I love getting oil change coupons the day after I change the oil, especially since they expire 2 weeks in the future. Carmen doesn’t suck down that much oil.

Yeah, gotta get my virtual pupper fix.

Calling @purplehorseshoe, our esteemed resident budrista.

Shopping done. What started out as a few needed items ended up as four bags and $230. I believe the wife is going to make gazpacho. Not my favorite food, but. . . . . .Also picked up the ingredients for baklava. Perhaps I’ll make that on Thursday.

Still in the 80s today, but not bad out.

Nah, you’re good right there.

If they have anything that combines CBG (or any of the other CB-- alphabet soup) get those. The CB-- add-ons help with things like inflammation and anxiety.

ETA: my favorites are CBN and CBG but they help with things like pain and appetite, which are my personal bugs.

Having gone in for just toothpaste and come out with over a hundred bucks of “oh, I could use some of that” and the always fun of going to the Dollar Sto’ for “just the one thing” and telling the cashier that and getting a smile/eyeroll cuz they hear that so many times a day …

The washing machine is fixed (again)…this time, hopefully for good. The guy thinks he accidentally misinstalled the replacement part on Sunday and it shorted: he replaced the replacement, and also zip-tied everything in place – which is what he’d done for the temporary fix. The second repair didn’t take long, and while he was there he adjusted the feet on the washer to make it more balanced. After he left I did both my laundry and some doggy laundry (two waterproof pads), and all seems to be well. :crossed_fingers: Despite my annoyance on Sunday night, I might still call this guy in the future if needed: he’s local, responsive, friendly, and reasonable, and anyone can make a mistake.

I did play with Lego last night, and assembled #4 of the Keith Haring Dancing Figures. I plan to build the fifth and final one tonight, but I’m going to hold off on bringing the set to work because I’m moving to a new desk next week! In addition to offices, this place also has a few “manager” cubicles (MCs) that are larger than a standard cubicle (SC). I’m currently in an SC, because they were out of MCs (and offices) when I joined the program. The woman who sits on the other side of one of my cubicle walls is in an MC, but a little while ago she let me know that both of her direct reports are being reassigned later this month and she offered to swap with me! We’re on the same team – she manages a project and one of my direct reports supports her – and it was very awesome of her to even think to make that offer. Our boss is fine with it, and the admin said that as long as we don’t need facilities/IT support we can move on our own, so we’re planning to do it a week from tomorrow. I’ll still need to book a conference room for any sensitive employee conversations, but now there will be room for one or two people to sit and talk with me at my desk. Yay!

Also, the desk in the MC is a different orientation from the one I have now so I can’t just duplicate my current setup, which means I’ll get to do one of my favorite things: organize/arrange stuff.

Well, here’s a first: I’ve read every single post since my last one, and have smiled/frowned/nodded accordingly, but I have nothing to say to any of y’all. :joy:

We sat there and said the same thing about wishing you were in the booth with us too. Glad the universe got that vibe message to you.

You left out the boy butt part-important qualifier for both of us. Nebraska has nice scenery that way, lots of boy butts in jeans and cowboy boots, especially the further west you go. Not enough of course….could never have enough.

Speaking of boy butts and boots @JaneDoe42, how’s hubs? >smirk, leer, smirk<

We have to buy them now? Mine I just picked up along the way….

And I’m on my way to Costco today too~my left hearing came up dead yesterday. I’ve had them less than two months but I’m about ready to return them and ask Costco for a different model or maker. Very frustrating when I know how good the right hearing aids and programming can be. I’d best go fortify myself with a third cup of coffee before heading out into the scorching heat.

Eye 2 is done. Things are more clear than this morning. I will have to wait until tomorrow to see how the near vision shakes out.

Ice cream and jaws are the order for the day

Getting dressed, heading in to work. Again.

Please, don’t let my enthusiasm for life knock anyone over.

(I’m dealing with a Thing that I’d rather not talk about, but it’s starting to seriously impact my quality of life.
At least I still get Monkey snuggles.)

If you know the handle of that cup gets too hot, maybe use a different cup? Or get a small tray?

Our kitchen is in the front, and we like to sit in the back, which means transferring food and dishes from kitchen, through the foyer, through the dining room and out onto the balcony. We bought a tray about a foot across, which makes it a lot easier to take two coffee cups, two small plates, etc. out for breakfast.

Glad you were able to get it all cleaned up, despite the delay.

I’m amazed how many people don’t have a copy of their own birth certificate. We have our birth certificates, marriage certificate, passports, and residence permits. My parents gave me my birth certificate, but maybe only after I needed to get a passport. Don’t remember, as that was more than 30 years ago.

I remember seeing those boots - very nice. And Boo:face_with_hand_over_mouth:

Read this out to hubby. He’s laughing more at that than JtC’s story about George.

Yay for fixed washer!

:joy:

Ice cream sounds good. Not sure about the jaws…

Fall weather came back yesterday, bringing lots of needed rain. It’s weird sleeping without the fan on.

On Sunday I oiled the dining table and it still stinks. Can’t leave the windows open while we’re gone, so it might be a few days before it’s comfortable to be inside and watch television.

Last night hubby had band so we weren’t home much. Tonight we’re sitting in the conversatory, but it’s a bit chilly. Might as well go to bed and snuggle under the covers.

Good night!

shoe - would it be appropriately supportive to say of your “thing” - this, too, shall pass, and we’re here for you as it does! Or should a hug suffice? {{{shoe}}}

It’s been a foggy foggy day here, much to the dismay of many passengers. The highlight was supposed to be a scenic cruise past Jan Mayen island. People were buying binoculars the last few days. But it’s been a pea-souper all day. The ship has been blowing the fog warning every two minutes for hours. I thought I noticed a slight lightening of the fog as if the sun was burning thru, but nope.

We went to a lecture on Medieval Iceland, its history, language, and traditions. The lecturer was telling us how genealogy plays a big role in Icelandic society, and he showed us his family tree dating back to the 9th or 10th century (I don’t recall the exact dates.) He also explained about naming conventions.

After his talk, we learned about battleships from a retired Navy officer (we attended 2 of his earlier talks.) So that filled a chunk of our afternoon. Then we went up to deck 12 to hang out till suppertime. It’s supposed to be a lounge for taking in the scenery - we saw lots of fog and heard the horn…

After supper, we went to the show that featured the ship’s dancers. It was a really nice show, but it would have been nicer if it had been a few hundred decibels quieter. I put some wads of tissue in my ears. If we ever cruise again, I’ll take foam earplugs with me (I say that after every loud performance.) So now, we’re in for the evening.

We have no excursion in Husavik tomorrow - we’ll just wander around a bit - it’s a tiny town. The weather is supposed to be nice - sunny and mid-60s. Here’s hoping. But it’s time for max chillage till the morning.

Happy Tuesday, everyone!

I just got off the phone with my financial advisors. Saying that makes me feel rich, even though my investment portfolio is probably the smallest one they have. The wife is an old friend of mine, which is probably why they took me on. By the end of the phone call, though, I was poor again. I just can’t keep up with inflation. I’ve whimpered and whined about that on here already, so I won’t go into it again.

I’m getting another dog client. It’s ironic because I’ve been thinking about taking down the flier, as walking in the heat is bad for me. If I get a real job, I could work in air conditioning.

I’m now in Calgon, Take Me Away mode. It’s nice. I think I’ll stay here. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6M-Lh0CI6Lc

It’s taken me two hours to write that because people keep texting me about adulting stuff. How far away can Calgon take me?

BRB

I have 10 coffee cups, all different. One of the few remaining physical mementos of my late wife and our joint 60-cup collection gathered over our 3 decades together. I use them in rotation, no skipping. I just screwed up & didn’t get a good grip this time. Oops.

A tray is not a bad idea; I used to have meal-sized high-sided bamboo trays. Might get that or a baby tray like your link. I am genetally trying to avoid accumulating lotsa one-off gizmos; I’m not blessed w huge kitchen space. Hell an ordinary salad plate or flat soup bowl would serve the same purpose. If I remember I’ll try that.

As to the mess, tomorrow the housekeepers will arrive w a mop & everything else. They’ll catch any spots I missed. But boy, was I vexed!

Maybe BBBoo stands for Bad Bawdy Boo, not Bippity Boppety Boo.

I greatly admire that in a woman…

GF seems quite fond of my snug pants of various sorts.

Not as far as a bottle of cheap Italian wine. Just sayin’.

Meant to mention earlier but I’m in awe of somebody fussing about a bad sore back and next day hiking 11 miles.

I’m younger and less shop-worn than you. Walking 11 miles in a day would have me chair-bound the next 5.

You really are a heroic figure.

This. {{Hugs}} to dear Shoe.

My long ago Alaskan cruise was similar. All we saw of the fabled Inside Passage was gray flat water disappearing into gray flat fog. Coulda been sailing in a hotel pool in Kansas for all we could see.

The guy there that I’ve been working with is so, so nice. I took him a silverware keychain that I made this morning. I hope that your trip was very successful.

{{{shoe}}} I hope it gets better for you, soon.

FCM and FCD I’m glad that you’re having a pretty good time. I wonder if they have earplugs there that you could use/buy?

Our trip to Costco was successful and the groceries were not too expensive. But, this just in, I FORGOT TO USE THE DAMN GIFT CARD AGAIN!!!

Oh dear, I think I’ll just have to come back later when I remember what else I had to say.

I was given mine when I applied for my first passport 45 years ago. It resides in the fire box with my SS card, car title and a few other important docs. I also have digital copies of all of them on a thumb drive that can be clipped into my bugout bag.

{{{shoe}}} Having to deal with several big, unpleasant things right now, you have my complete sympathy.

I reheat soup in a soup mug resting inside of a pasta plate (this particular one is grossly overpriced, but mine are heavy. restaurant china of a similar style). The lip on the pasta dish makes for easy handling. Having a small kitchen, the pasta dish can also be used for its original purpose or oatmeal.

I got one financial institution tackled today, along with the health policy for August here (the insurance person is still working on the one for Texas). I managed to get the paper rack in the studio disassembled and a cube to move paper reassembled (I use a metal grid set up that involves wire ties) and an early stoner supper picked up. Nelson even got a condiment cup of peanut butter when we went through the drive up!

Pasta plates; I used to have a set of those. Great suggestion! Thank you!!

Congrats on the Costco run. Future you will love that discount you didn’t use. As long as it doesn’t expire…

Thanks to everyone for the kind words. Cousin (who lives in Ronceverte*, WV but is in a Virginia hospital) crashed hard last night and is still in ICU. There is some hope, but not a whole lot. She’s always been in poor health, she was in crisis six months ago as well.

Even if she does recover, nothing will ever be the same for them again.

As it happens edibles are not legal in WV. The nice budista gave me a crash course in micro-doses and Gina seemed thrilled. She promised to report back as to how she liked them.

A nice Mexican lunch was eaten and then we came home late for kitty dinner time.

When I got my drivers license changed, I got my Real ID and then learned that I’m going to need a passport to vote. Real ID’s do not prove citizenship, they just allow one to fly and enter certain federal buildings. A Real ID and a birth certificate with matching names does prove citizenship, but my name no longer matches my birth certificate.

This. I got the survey back in the early days of MTV and that really was all I watched. I thought about mixing it up with things that would make me sound smart, but that was too much bother.

Engineer boots give a nice “lift” as well

See, this is the sort of thing you don’t see on TV!

Which is why some of us pick up on such small things like that, just fascinating!

*The town of Ronceverte was founded by a man named Cecil Clay. He read the word in an old Jesuit manuscript and wanted to use it for the town despite protests from the people.

His argument was that the name “looked well in print and was euphonious in sound”

He also said that because that was the name he had filed the charter under, it couldn’t be changed until after the charter had been filed and registered. Then if the townsfolk wanted to change it, they could.

Ronceverte is french for “bramble green” and is in the county of Greenbrier so it all worked out.

So ends another history lesson according to JtC.
