(Old) A high seas MMP

Howdy Y’all! Laundry got laundered and put where it stays until it gets dirty again. I decided to go over to the church house this mornin’ and get candle duty done. The rest of the day has been spent in high RDOS inactivities. We never got any inclement weather. TWPTB now say we will tomorrow. That’s all the news from swampland.

IKR

Lovely feeling, ain’t it?

I snortled. That was a good description.

For stuff like that, I revert to the old skool “ink on back of hand” reminder.

Thank you - all of you - for the kind words.

Ah, bureaucracy. Such fun. Makes so much sense, too.

I said it out loud, and I concur with his assessment.

Also, “euphonious” does not get used enough anymore.

May I just say, how much I luuuurve “short shift” nights? I’m home long before sunset, have time to leisurely snack as I decompress (not from much, today was a very chill shift) and can let Monkey out so he can roll around in catnip on the driveway.

In about in hour, with any luck, it might be :bat: time!

As long as you’re tuned into the :bat: channel they’ll be there. If they no-show you’ll know what went wrong: wrong channel.

My day was breakfast with former roomie, laze about the house a bit and soak up some balconatin’ rays, then retrieve the car from the shop and proceed to a beach a few miles down for HH & food. Good eatin’ in pleasant surroundings was had, a short walk followed, then home and yabbering’ w y’all folks.

Plus lotsa txts w GF. Tomorrow night we’ll do high end dinner. No low-rent rendezvous though. Color me about to burst with frustration. At least her hubby is being a total turd about everything. Poor dear.

Well, sure. Women don’t need to bother their heads voting, that’s what their husbands are for.
[/spoiler]

Cousin’s daughter’s husband said something to me that made me go hmmmm.

He said the reason folks out this way have problems with my accent and lack thereof is that I hit all of my g’s and use my t’s and l’s like they are free. Only TV people use all of the alphabet and most folks don’t expect a normal looking person like me to sound like a TV person, so it takes a few seconds for them to process.

Did you also have that issue when you moved, or was your Texan accent southern enough to be recognizable?

Up from naptime. Having a Manhattan and Redneck stirfry.

A tech that will own up to their mistakes and fix it is worth their weight in gold.

Indeed.

I long ago learned the art of code shifting. I can slip into a couple of redneck accents when needed. I got Down east Maine, upstate NY, and in a pinch I could do North Carolina. Talk more dumber when in the hardware sto’. Annoying, but it seems to get the job done.

I just spent almost an hour on da fone wid my papai the phone with my dad.

My GAWD you old folks can talk about your health stuff!!

Anyways, we kinda shot the shit, I let him rattle (I may have put him on speaker, a few times) and he didn’t ask about my stuff - sounds mean, but was a relief - and now imma go back to trying to make some sort of dinner.

What .. and imma ask this as nicely as possible … does that :angry_face_with_horns: mean?

Up, caffeinated, and sheveled. Off to heave.

We’re in Iceland. It looks a lot like Norway…

Morning, mumpers! It’s currently 20c/68f with a predicted high of 25c/77f and partly cloudy. Weather app says “Best fucking day ever! Oh, wait, I was remembering another fucking day. Forget I said anything.” OK, I can deal with that…

Some days I don’t know how you cope! And I’m jealous 'cos we no longer have any lap cats :frowning:

It’s encouraging that he admitted a mistake and didn’t try to fob you off with any old flannel, and then fixed it properly. He’s worth keeping around.

Excellent news, I hope the recovery continues and things look better and better!

{{{{{shoe}}}}} just 'cos

Moooom the lectures sound very interesting, even if the “scenery” wasn’t living up to the hype!

You very rarely see anyone on British TV using a petrol station, never mind putting air in the tyres! We also have very few petrol stations that aren’t self-serve. I was pleasantly surprised to find one on our way to a music festival in Wales, it’s pretty much the only place I’ve ever been where I haven’t had to put the petrol in the tank myself.

Yesterday had a bit of a busy ending, but stuff got done for irk and then campus food was made. Cats got fed, litter trays were cleaned and I had something for dinner. Went to bed reasonably early as it’s a campus day and therefore an early start.

Big day today too, it’s our School’s graduation day so the academics will be wandering about looking all spiffy and smart. I, however, will be in the office and not leaving the building. Really don’t need to get anywhere near all that pompousness. Hopefully tonight is pub night for me, just waiting for my friends to let me know if they are fit and well

Better get on and do some work now, since tomorrow is a day full of training and meetings so will be largely unproductive.

We are once again south of the Arctic Circle, but we’ll cross it again as we travel up the west coast of Greenland in a few days. We’ll be going ashore in a bit to explore Husavik. Forecast is for 69° and sunny!

Today is a 2 port day - we leave here around 6 and dock in Akureyri at 10 and stay the night. But now, breakfast!

Good morning.

Not sure what’s happening yet today. Other than the usual attempt to clean the kitchen. Oh, don’t think I mentioned that our stove is on its way out. I could call a repairman, but it’s getting up there in years. So, we’ll just start looking around for something new and exciting. Speaking of exciting, part of the problem is that when you turn one of the back burners down, the temperature goes up! But it will fortunately turn off correctly.

Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN ‘Tis 75 Amurrkin out and stormy with a predicted high of 91 and rainy/cloudy for the day. I think we shall hold off on the procurement of provisions as today will be a good day to stay inside and dry. The main need to feed will be BLTs and oven fries. I envision that bein’ at lunchtime. Also, I yanked a box of brownie mix outta the cabinet, so chawklit pee-kahn brownies just cause.

Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then, onward into the day! Rah.

Happy Hump Day Y’all!

Good morning.

It’s currently 61°F and overcast. Our high temperature is only expected to be around 70°F, and it’ll be cloudy all day. I’m not complaining. It’ll be good to cool the house down. The late afternoons/evenings were becoming uncomfortable.

We have had self-serve at the pumps in Washington state for as long as I can remember. They started charging for air and water some time ago, but the problem with that was the damn machines were always broken. I use those in a pinch, but I now have my own little battery jump-start and air compressor machine at home. I always got a little freaked out in Oregon because I had to wait for someone to come out to pump my gas, and I almost felt like a criminal if I forgot and hopped out of my vehicle. They finally ended full-service gas in Oregon around 2023.

Oopsie, sounds like you found a good repairman.

rocking_chair, I’m glad things seem to be going well with your eyes.

I have a copy of my birth certificate, but I obtained it about 15 or 20 years ago. The reason is that I only had the microfiche version of my birth certificate from the military hospital where I was born, and not the official county version. Oddly enough, the microfiche version was okay for many, many years, even to obtain a secret clearance, but all of a sudden I needed a county version.

I had my hair appointment yesterday, and then drove down to Lowe’s and Home Depot. The nurseries there are already looking very sparse, and it’s only the first part of July. By the end of July, we’ll start seeing Halloween-themed items in there. I came home with a new planter, some dirt, and a couple of inexpensive plants. I plan to fill the planter today and give all my plants a nice deep drink of water. Of course, the birdies will need water in their bird bath and drinking station, too.

Speaking of birds, I still really miss feeding them. I had crows who had mastered feeding at the suet station, and of course, I miss the busy little bush tits and gold finches. I miss the chestnut-backed chickadees who often hopped onto my hand if I had some bird seed there. They still come to drink water, and the birds hop among the flowers in my planters and beds, but it’s not like before. The crows and I would sit and look at each other, “talking” to each other.

I feed the birds in winter and fall by letting my plants and flowers go to seed and leaving them there until it’s time to plant in the spring.

It’s time for more coffee. You all take care.

Goodness, I posted about this time yesterday morning and then didn’t get back to y’all until today. Wasn’t that I was awfully busy, just gym time and downloading my vacation pictures (I’ll go through them and edit today and tomorrrow). Also need to start seriously shopping for my next car, it think it will be a mid-sized Hybrid SUV, there are 6-7 of them out there so need to do some research. Another hot day with a 40% chance of afternoon showers, so same old same old.

And will now attempt to get through 35 messages…

doggio, look at it this way, I and a lot of folks are paying money at the gym to come home soaked in sweat…

cookie, I usually have a list and stick to it, but my re-provisioning after vacation was pretty close to your numbers. amazing how things can add up so fast…

oopsie, hope the washing machine stays fixed now and looking forward to seeing your dancing Legos. Enjoy the expanded cube!

BBBoo, I don’t look at boy butts, but I have to admit some women on the treadmills at the gym in those ridiculously form-fitting bottoms do attract a glance or two from me… Best wishes with the hearing aid.

rocky, yay! for the eyes.

shoe, {{hugs}} for your Thing.

I’m 95% sure that I still have my birth certificate but I keep it in a locked box, so I haven’t looked at it in years. With a Real ID and Passport, I think I’m pretty well identified.

FCM, enjoying your trip reports. And yeah, cruises are at the mercy of the weather (I missed my first two shore visits in Antarctica due to high seas and gale-force winds). My cruise (only 7 days, not 30 like yours), didn’t offer lectures, sounds like they are interesting. How many time changes have you had so far?

nellie, most folks are just barely keeping up just like you; hang in there and enjoy the dog walks. And like Pilot noted, if I walk 2 miles like I did on occasion during my trip, I’m beat; going 11 miles is just amazing.

JtC, great story on the town name.

boofae, gas/petrol stations same here, I would have to go many miles to find a manned gas station, virtually everyone is self-serve. And hope the graduation day doesn’t make for more work for your folks.

And Whew!, I’m at the bottom of the scroll. Everyone take care, about to open the 900 or so photos from the vacation and start weeding out all the bad/duplicate ones (my phone camera sometimes won’t take a pic no matter how I press the button, and sometimes it’ll take 6-10 shots all in a row…).

Take care all.

MetalMouse - we’ve had 3 time changes so far: -1 to Norway, +1 heading west, then +1 for Iceland. Not sure how many changes to Greenland.

We walked around a bit in Husavik, mostly looking at boats. There was a wooden topsail schooner out of the water at the boat yard, and it looked like they were preparing to haul another out, so we watched the workers work.

We also saw a puffin! It was diving for food, then we didn’t see it again. I hope it didn’t get caught by a bigger critter underwater.

We’re back on the ship chilling. Pics on FB - nothing special, but then I’m not much of a photographer.

This. I have a naturally mixed accent (grew up in northern IN, but my county tended to be a destination on the hillbilly highway, Mom included, so a mixed midwestern / GL / Appalachian and now with 30 years in middle TN to top it off), so, like you, gauge the audience.

Up, caffeinating, breakfasted and fixing to do KP. Today’s agenda includes dealing with the other financial institution and making a quick grocery run for perishables.

I got my first SS direct deposit today! That makes me an official RDOS, I guess. :stuck_out_tongue:

Stay safe and healthy y’all!

I’ve just watched the livestream of our graduation ceremony - all my students managed to get up and down the steps in the Great Hall without falling over. The suicidal student is still alive and has her graduation scroll so we have waved a happy goodbye to her.

Just one little hiccup today, there was a student whose degree wouldn’t calculate properly and he had to be sorted out separately, his result didn’t go through the Board of Examiners meeting and was done outside via Chair’s Action…but it wasn’t communicated to the folks preparing graduation materials, even though the approval process copies them in. Anyway, fixed it (and it wasn’t one of my students either!) because I’m good like that…and he has graduated too.

I think I deserve my night in the pub now!

I think all those graduates should stand you a drink!
