(Old) A high seas MMP

:heart_hands: You had mentioned getting rid of a lot of things when you merged households. Glad the cups survived the purge.

Oh man, that sounds good. I really like combining sweet and salty flavors.

Glad there’s a pill that should help. Good luck with the pilling.

We got our first one late last week, from the Happyblack plant, which I probably should have left on the vine another day. The black coloring is a bit confusing.

Please don’t. That’s what the MMP is for.

Feeling rather distracted. My gynecologist had sent me for a consult with a gynecological specialist because my ovarian cyst has grown, depsite me going through menopause. Yesterday the specialist recommended that I get a bilateral salpingo-oophorectomy (remove both ovaries and both fallopian tubes). I was expecting to be told that I should it checked more often, and I thought surgery might be on the agenda, but not yet.

I could say no, but that’s not the smart decision. Doctor said to go ahead and go on vacation and September’s good for her schedule as well. Except for seeing it on the ultrasound, I wouldn’t even know it’s there.

Nuh-uh.

Your witticisms are cherished, and many of us look forward to them!

(I almost typed “they’re looked forward to!” but that would’ve been bad grammar.)

So the usual anarchy, except it was the Bottom White set on the 100 that was unattended. Which considering all three routes have big bulk stops, and one is a Pig instead of a package car, it got ugly. Also a bunch of damages and rewraps, partially because of the rain, partially because, I dunno, some the packages had been rioted on. So late out, lots of seniors blocking the aisles in Teeter, late home, and gonna be a short nap.

Yay!

This is the place to not shut up. Besides, how would we know why Max was stopping if you did?

This evening’s show was Pianist Naomi - she was amazing!!! She played a lot of classical pieces, most of which I recognized. When she played the piece from The Barber of Seville, FCD and I both said “Bugs Bunny!” And after she played the Sabre Dance selection, she played it again in boogie-woogie!

We decided to give the New York Deli another chance after the gawd-awful sammiches yesterday, so we ordered pizza. And we won’t make that mistake again. They do good bagels for breakfast, but non-bagel food pretty much suxx!

Tomorrow, our balcony will be cleaned (not just ours - all of them) so I guess we need to plan to be absent. We will be going into Isafjordur to wander around a bit - with luck, they’ll clean while we’re gone. If not, no biggie. We’ll find a place to veg.

We’re on our way down the fjord out to sea. I’m thinking it’s time to don my sleep shirt and read my latest trashy novel.

Late afternoon on Thu as I try to catch up the 50 posts since Wed morning.

Had nice fancy-pants dinner & beachside smooch session   w GF Wed night. Then she went home for urgently needed sleep & so did I. Noonish today = Thu she’s back on the train to Mom’s for a couple weeks. But it’s real obvious we missed the heck out of each other so that part was both fun and reassuring.

Going out for Big Boy dinner tonight w one guy pal. Brazilian meat-on-swords style steakhouse. Should be wretchedly excessive fun. Burrrp!

As to y’all, and I did read every word of every post, although not everyone gets a shout-out. Sorry …

Good luck w the stove hunt there Sticky.

boofae: Congrats for launching another slug of shiny fresh grads into the world. And especially the one particular problem child.

Yaay! All these recent eye surgeries are certainly boosting my own confidence about my eventual cataract repairs. I’m not putting them off; they’re just not significant yet. Or so sayeth the docs; I can’t run the before / after experiment without getting the surgery.

Ouch!! Best of luck w revised port calls and with the spotty food you’ve mentioned more than once. I hope it’s not actually spotted though; that would be bad.

Our revised port call experience was less than ideal too. Excessive crowding, activities evidently made up on the fly, etc. Evidently just one of the risks of cruising, and the more adventurous the cruise the more that’s likely going to prove true.

When late wife and I first moved from Las Vegas to Saint Louis MO we really struggled w the seemingly obstinate, unfriendly locals. So unlike hospitality-oriented Vegas and not what we expected from supposedly easy-going friendly Midwesterners.

Once we learned to say “Good Morning! How are you doing? [mental slow count to 5] Can we have a table for 2?” (or whatever other request), the interactions with the locals went much better. And that was in the big city, not out in the boonies. Always include a personal pleasantry, and always include a delay. Either alone Will. Not. Work.

All: Self-serve gas really took off when the first Arab oil embargo hit in late 1973. Prior to that self-serve was pretty rare nationwide. 6 months later it was nearly everywhere not prohibited by state or local law. And a lot of those laws fell off the books in the next couple years. With the infamous exceptions of NJ & OR.

Boo for having a problem, but Yaay for a prompt OV! By now you should be at the dentist or just done. Hope you get/got a good resolution.

Add my name to the chorus of “Hey nellie, don’t you dare shut up. We enjoy your adventures and your exemplary fortitude.” You either @Seanette.

On the ships I’ve been on, the partitions between each balcony are actually doors. A crewman goes along from balcony to balcony opening doors as they go, and hosing each balcony down with fresh water. After they’re done, they retraces their steps reeling up the hose and closing all the partitions. The time spent on your balcony will be a minute or two.

No need to abandon your balcony until they get there, but closing your drapes / window shades during the whole cleaning timeframe might reduce the odds on inadvertent / undesirable indecent exposures. Or not. Depending on how you roll.

Cheers all!

Happy Doperversary, nellie! :shortcake:

Work was busier than usual yesterday and today. I even spent this morning in the proposal center (I usually work from home on Thursdays), but luckily I was able to get everything I needed before noon and I was back with my doggy by 12:30. And I just completed my timesheet and logged off, so now I’m freeeeeeee! (Well, at least until tomorrow morning.) I’ve decided to indulge in pizza tonight – and leftovers for the next few days – and will be DoorDash-ing Pizza Hut in a little while.

I finished the Keith Haring Dancing Figures Lego set on Tuesday night, but I can’t share any pics at the moment: my preferred photo hosting site seems to be under some kind of attack, and neither Chrome nor Edge will allow me to go there. I’ll try again tomorrow. Actually, maybe I’ll wait until next week: I decided they’re a little too big to bring to work, and that I’ll be displaying them on my piano instead. I needed to order some acrylic risers for that, and they won’t arrive until a week from today. I’ll wait until I can share a display photo.

I also ordered my next set on Tuesday night: Wicket the Ewok, which will be released on 08/01. I’m fairly certain I’ll be able to squeeze him in next to C-3PO, R2-D2, and Chewbacca. :crossed_fingers:

Tomorrow is a Friday when my boss and two of my direct reports will be out of the office (they work a schedule that gets them every other Friday off), so I’m hoping for a relatively quiet day – though I have a mammogram in the early afternoon. I have no plans on Saturday but I’m looking forward to Sunday, when I’ll be going to a community theatre production of Hairspray with a friend. It’s a matinee, and we’re meeting at our favorite Thai place for lunch beforehand. I haven’t seen her in 3 months; since shortly after I started my new job. It’ll be good to catch up, and I’ll keep my fingers crossed that the Prince William Little Theatre does a good show.

UPDATE RIGHT BEFORE CLICKING REPLY: The pizza will be here in ~5 min! Perfect timing!

Oh, poor kitty (and Baker)! Here’s hoping you figure out the medication and it works quickly. :crossed_fingers:

Hoping your appointment went well and they were able to fix the problem! :crossed_fingers:

I have a tooth on the bottom right that has suddenly become pretty sensitive; I think it’s one where there’s a very old filling that’s been on “watch” status for a few years. It might also be the tooth the dentist said would likely eventually need a root canal…meh. My next cleaning/checkup isn’t until the end of September: it’s tolerable right now, but if it starts bothering me any more before then I’ll make an appointment.

:people_hugging: :crossed_fingers:

(Lots of crossed fingers from me today…I care about y’all!)

I’m so glad you finally got some decent entertainment!

FYI, this long running thread has slowly morphed into “The EV buying advice thread”. Someone has just revived it with some questions about a current EV search. You might usefully join in with either Qs or As. Not much point in reading the first 2050 posts. Pick up there around #2050 and away you go.

That’s right around the time I got my first motorcycle and insisted on pumping my own gas no matter what. So that does explain why I don’t remember when it became common for folks on four wheels.

The pleasantry was always included, now that I’ve figured out the delay part, it is working much better. Some folks out this way are ignorant, but very few of them are stupid. They know how to understand me, it just takes a few seconds to change gears is all.

For the most part, they do better than I do. Back when I was learning Japanese, I was able to watch TV and listen to the radio for immersion. Newscasters might not use all their consonants but they do use a lot.

Totally agreed! Fingers crossed for no more mouth pain.

Oh my. I stopped doing that when I was in my thirties. Sand just kept getting in places it didn’t belong. I’m glad you’ve managed to figure that part out.

Hurray for good entertainment! I was starting to feel badly for you, you paid so much for the cruise, you deserve to enjoy it.

I am so sorry. I hope the procedure is painless and scarless.

I’ve considered black tomatoes but always wondered how one would tell that they were ripe.

You are so very silly at times. We all adore you and look forward to your posts!

Happy Cake Day!

Drink most of it in the morning. I’m in the habit of drinking half a gallon of water a day and most of it is gone by 1400. Of course, I don’t drink soda which makes it easier for me.

Good on you for helping out, I hope your fellow resident is feeling OK today.

Millions will die. And because access to USAID has cut access for birth control as well as food, babies will be born sickly to die of starvation.

They were right where she left them!

I really miss VBC bringing me her toys. I could hear her all the way across the house and used to make fun of Hubs because she would walk right by him to bring me a toy. Jealous yet?

but now is the perfect time to start planning and building. That way you will be ready after the last frost!

But not the Arizona? That surprises me.

So, tell! What did you get?

We went to the Kroger in Charleston in hopes of finding a better produce section (Aldi’s it is) and just saw all of the same things we can get local. The produce was fresher and there were loose things as well as packaged. I still bought a big bag of tangerines, Tara has shared that her daughter always gets excited when she brings things home from our direction because she loves fresh fruit. I also bought her a white peach, a plum and a nectarine so we could learn if she likes them as well.

Such a shame that stores make you buy so much, us old folks just can’t eat all that before it goes bad.

We stopped for supper at the nice Mexican place and got home just in time for kitty feeding time.

The evening will involve thread and silence. Cousin’s daughter wants to make the choice to take her mother off the vent (the medical team all agree that it is for the best, cousin is in pain and organ failure. She won’t be coming back.), but cousin’s husband is refusing. As there there is no living will or advance directives, cousin will continue to suffer until her body just refuses to go on any further.

To clarify, that wasn’t a euphemism for sex. In this case it means standing up or seated on a bench, fully clothed, mostly on a sidewalk fronting the sand. Yeah, sex and beach sand are a … difficult … proposition.

Oh crap, how did I miss this one??!?

Best of luck w that scary prospect @Die_Capacitrix.

Both BB & GF are total hysterectomy veterans. I wasn’t involved in their surgeries or recoveries, but from a couple / few years down track I can say that history (hystery? ) doesn’t seem to slow either one of them down much.

dicey, if it’s an option, go for laparoscopic surgery. My sister, my friend and I had full hysterectomies within six months of each other, all with different methods. I had the easiest time by far with laparoscopic and only have four very small scars to show for it.

Got the errands done this afternoon. I took Nelson with me and he made out like a bandit. He got fussed over at Advance Auto when we got the key fob battery replaced, the drive up at the pharmacy gave him a milk bone, he got to hang with his homies at the dog park and got a condiment cup of smoked turkey at the BBQ place. The little dude sure knows how to work it. :stuck_out_tongue:

Howdy Y’all! We had a good ramble up to the farmers market. I drove and got a little bit lost, but figured out where I made a wrong turn and remembered another road we could turn onto to get to the market. We decided on the direct route back home. Lots of good stuff there. We bought some flat green beans, squish, a hyuuuge rutabaga and a bag of vidalia onions, all for less than twenty bucks. They have shelled and unshelled peas, beans etc. They also have stuff like fresh okra already cut up and bagged and fresh creamed corn in big bags. We plan to go back soon with a couple or more big coolers to get some of the shelled peas and beans as well as stuff like corn and okra. Since all that stuff is refrigerated, coolers seem the smartest way to transport. Plus we can stock a freezer (we have three) with some fresh veggies. We buy stuff like maters, peppers, and watermelon from a local produce stand or from the sto’. We had good eats at Eggs Up as well. There was a nice tstorm this afternoon. We watched it on the back porch as we day drank. A very good day for us!

{{{Dicey}}} hope all goes well.

Nellie happy doperversary! If goin’ on and on and on up in here were a problem, I’d have been told to shut up a long time ago. Never do that. Everyone tellin’ what’s goin’ on in our lives good and bad is what the MMP is about.

JtC maybe cousin’s hub will come around and realize what’s for the best.

red all I can say is, “Go Nelson!Turn on the cute and get those goodies!”

Sooo, I’m now scheduled for a colonoscopy next week. So I’ve got that to look forward to. A coworker, who has gone through these multiple times, suggested not getting knocked out, due to the hassles of organizing rides. Anybody got experience with this and have any advice?

I was shocked at how fast the turnaround from my first call to them to the date of the procedure…basically a week.

red Good for Nelson working it and gettin treatses.

Amen to that sister. I’m a single guy, and I can barely get through a loaf of bread before it goes off. A head of lettuce, forget about it.

In my defense and considering your track record…easy mistake to make

One of the last times I did get sand where it didn’t belong, I also ended up participating in a grunion run. Those fish can be very rude at times.

I love how happy you are when he gets properly spoiled.

That sounds wonderful! We need to find a good farmers market, the ones here are small and don’t have much variety. What they have on offer is always excellent, though.

I was excited about the Kroger’s fresh fish cabinet, folks out this way seem to only want the frozen stuff. I was thinking about how to do crab legs but could smell the counter from ten feet away. Very disappointing.

Daughter is taking hub to the hospital tomorrow. Cousins doctors will talk to him and will also cut the IV drugs down enough to allow cousin to respond to yes and no questions. Hard to talk with the vent, but today cousin nodded when her daughter asked if she wanted to go to God. Cousin knows what’s happening, she is a retired nurse. Cousin’s husband has never lived alone before and is in full denial. I’ll be really scared when I’m wearing his shoes, I sure do wish there was more that I could do to help.

I bought half a loaf of rye bread, took two slices out and froze the rest.

(I lie to the woman I give food to. She is a poor single mother, about the only thing she has left is her pride. I’m fairly sure that if she ever learns that we are spending real money to buy her child food, she will refuse to accept it anymore.)

I have no advice about the colonoscopy, we’ve always been able to get by just using the poop sampling things and mailing them off. I really do hope it goes well for you and that it will end up being a big waste of time.

I have no desire to go through a colonoscopy while awake. Your mileage may vary

Does your bigger town have an Asian or Latino market? I tend to find decent fish at either.

Providing a shoulder for cousin’s daughter, husband and your hubby will mean more than you know. Hugs to all of you.

Went out for Mexican tonight. A sign on the way said that the road will be closed from Monday until November 10th. When we got to the restaurant, the waiter said that this is the last weekend for patio dining. The city is re-doing the sidewalks and roads. Why will it take three months? I don’t know.

Anyway, Mrs. L.A. had flan for dessert. She never gets dessert because she’s too full. (I had a second margarita.) She ‘made me’ have a taste. Oh, man, was it good! Only… carbs. :frowning:

I had one salpingectomy in 1982 (ruptured ectopic). No fun at all, big scar across my bikini crease. Long recovery.

Had the other salpingectomy and the bilateral oophorectomy mumble mumble years (32 years and three bebes) later. This time done in a DaVinci robotic surgery. Slicker than anything-went home after recovering from the anesthesia, with 5 bandaids covering inch long incisions. Tylenol was more than enough pain medicine. I’ve had far worse root canals. I wish the same for you.

Late night final here. Gym has been gymed, dinner has been assimilated, brother has been called and You Tubes have been watched. So off to bed here in a little bit, but not before catching up with y’all. So scrolling on…

Dicey, being recommended for surgery is never fun, but if you trust this Doctor’s opinion and it’s doable, then I think you should…but it is your body, do what feels right to you and get all your questions answered before that.

FCM, glad the pianist was good; I don’t think I went to a single show on my cruise (which was much shorter than yours).

Pilot, trust dinner was epic. And thanks for the thread advice, I’ll have a look but more interested in a Hybrid than a full EV.

Oopsie, glad work wasn’t too irk-some, and hope the pizza was good. And I really need to send you the Legos I saw on the cruise ship…will the PM system let me attach photos?

JtC, I have been to the Arizona Monument, but all the other ships are floating for the time being…and sorry for the family drama, I hope when it’s my time I will have made clear nothing drastic should be done to prolong what has already gone.

Dicety, I agree with red that laproscopic surgery leads to a fast recovery (for gall bladder removal for me, red can speak for hysterectomies…)

swampy, so it turned into a ramble anyway. Sounds like you made a good haul.

Vango, been many years since my colonoscopy, but had a friend drop me off and take me home. Would recommend similar arrangements or Uber/Lyft. And get knocked out! And I tend to get “1/2” loafs of bread at Kroger so it seldom goes bad on me. And I keep spare loaves in the freezer.

And that’s all folks. Back tomorrow with more MMP stuff.

Up with which nellie will not put.

That was your first mistake~Missouri, even cosmopolitan St Louis, is the South, not the Midwest. Therefore the pleasantry has to come first and then that maddening delay. Helps to slip a y’all into the pleasantry early on.

Up, caffeinated, and sheveled. Off to heave.
