(Old) A high seas MMP

Pilot, we haven’t done any real balconating because of weather, so that won’t be an issue. The notice we got did say to keep curtains closed…

And judging by the noise, it has begun. Not sure if it’s our deck or the one above, but definite sounds of furniture moving and doors opening and closing.

It’s a dreary morning with rain in the forecast and temps in mid 50s. Being a tiny town and because our cabin has an umbrella, we’ll venture forth for a while later. Now we’re just lazing for a bit.

Sadly, my inflatable wedge has a leak. I have to blow it up every evening. Oh well, more room in my luggage on the trip home. And I’ll need to buy a new one eventually. Dammit.

And so begins the end of our second week. Happy Firday!

Morning, mumpers! It’s currently 23c/73f with a predicted high of 31c/87f and sunny, which is waaaay too hot for me. I’m a delicate English rose! Weather app says “This is a perfect fucking beach day. May I suggest Black’s Beach in fucking San Diego?” You can suggest whatever you like, I am going nowhere near a beach today.

I understand the idea of keeping hydrated and making sure you get enough water, but sadly the intake means it comes out again later and that usually means being up and down all night! And good for you, helping the neighbour. I hope he’s ok and there’s no lasting damage.

I should think so, after news like that. Definitely not what you wanted to hear, and so out of the blue. At least the doc is happy for you to go on your trip first and it’s not something they need to tackle immediately.

Sticky Buns I hope the dentist managed to fix your problem!

nellie happy Doperversary! Please don’t shut up, your posts are always welcome.

When I was learning to drive, my instructor took me to a petrol station and had me fill the tank in her car just so that I would know how to do it.

Cousin’s daughter has a tough decision to make, I hope the medical team can persuade the husband to follow their advice.

Pilot I’m glad you had an enthusiastic reunion with GF

Yesterday was a somewhat tiresome day, I had a 3hr training thing in the morning which is the third of a series of sessions that so far have been just a re-hash of stuff I did on the Institute of Leadership and Management course I did in 2019. But we were told we had to go, so go we did…the session was fruitless but the company was good.

I had to leave half an hour before it ended because I had another meeting to attend with my manager, that was more productive and answered a few questions. Then a quick break for some lunch, and a meeting with one of my minions. After that, I had to hassle a colleague to do something that I asked her to do at the start of the week. There was no reason for the delay, and the thing I asked her to do took a matter of seconds (correcting a mark and result on the student record system), but I needed her to do it so that I could send a Chair’s Action request to an academic and start the process of changing the student’s progress decision. Not a massive job, and not a problem, but I would have liked to get it done earlier instead of faffing about 10 minutes before I was due to leave on Thursday.

Anyway, it got done, and the process is in motion. I got home at a decent time, ran the rollsuck around in 30 degree heat because…well, cats, and cat litter bits…so the house looks slightly more respectable. I had to wait for 'im indoors to tell me when he was getting back to the station, I collected him and we went home via the supermarket to stock up on treat meat for the cats.

Up early this morning to feed them, and get myself ready for another weekend away. Today we’re off to Antwerp so it’ll be a train to London, a short walk from Euston to St Pancras (possibly via the Euston Tap or the Somers Town Coffee House), then the Eurostar to Brussels, and a train through to Antwerp. A nice relaxing weekend where the only plan we have is a Sunday visit to the zoo.

Indeed.

I am personally in love with the Hyundai Santa Cruz.

{{{Dicey}}}
Thanks everyone for your good wishes at the dentist. Unfortunately I need a root canal and my dentist doesn’t do them. I now have an appointment for one next Tuesday. In the meantime, I guess I get to suck it up? The pain is intermittent and today it is full on if I put pressure on that particular tooth.

My phone call with my supervisor went well. I’m going to be teaching a small sped class in Algebra and Consumer Math which totally sounds like fun to me! This won’t be my only duty, but it is one that I think I will be able to do. I will start working at the end of this month and then at the beginning of August all the teachers will meet in a central location for a couple of days.

MusicMan is off today and will be going to a doctor’s appointment at the local VA office. Not sure what will be going on after that. I’ll probably continue working on silverware stuff. The vise/vice/v👀 that I got is wonderful! It’s actually much more convenient than the one that I lost.

boofae - not sure about today, but 50 years ago, Black’s Beach was a nekkid beach. I was stationed in San Diego at the time, but waaaaay to shy and easily embarrassed to go to a nekkid beach.

sticky - FCD loved his Santa Cruz till that idiot woman totalled it for him.

Balcony is clean!

And lest I leave the impression that this cruise is awful, bear in mind, many of my complaints are vents. Overall, it’s still a nice cruise. Some parts are excellent, like the glass-doored shower that’s nearly as big as the one at home. And the huge, fluffy towels - I bet they’re 30" x 60"! And the casino is non-smoking, so while we don’t gamble, we can walk thru without choking!

Ok, off to breakfast!

Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN ‘Tis 73 Amurrkin out and mostly clear with a predicted high of 90 with clouds and maybe rain by mid-afternoon. No plans for the day other than I shall do some down home cookage for sup. A poke roast in the slow cooker, fresh green beans, squishes, rutabaga, rice ‘n gravy and cornbread are on the menu. We shall also be RDOS sloths as is our wont.

BooFae have fun in Belgium.

Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then, onward into the day! Rah.

Happy Firday Y’all!

Mornin’ all - balconatin’ and caffinatin’ as the sun has risen behind a giant rainshower offshore. Comfy warm & a tad muggy with nil breeze.

Last night’s Big Boy dinner was mostly a flop. He had sorta forgotten the date and also had a crisis at work. So all my attempts to contact him late afternoon to confirm, as I was leaving home, and up through after I’d been there half an hour enjoying a cocktail all went nowhere. Just as I was giving up on him suddenly a flood of apologetic texts came in. Too late, practically speaking, for both of us. So I went ahead and began the feast solo and he kept working. No hard feelings; I remember being a business owner and standing people up now and again when the shit hit the fan and I’m. The. Only. One.

So I did my damnednest to overeat and semi-overdrink alone. The staff there know both of us and are great. And as always the food was yummy. When the dust settled it was 2 kinds of olives, some prosciutto and soppressata, 4 kinds of cheese, 2 kinds of breads, 4 cuts of beef, 1 each of chicken, pork, and lamb, some shrimp, and some sausage. And a passion fruit mousse for dessert. All washed down with a preliminary caipirinha cocktail, a half bottle of French wine, and a sambuca with dessert. Spread over about 3 hours it wasn’t too difficult.

This morning I’m rethinking the attraction of large meals. One can undo a week’s worth of diligent light eating at a single engorgeful sitting. And one did. At least I didn’t get stupid to boot. Uber handled transportation in both directions just in case.

Only plan for today is a load or two of laundry & RDOS. I might eat, I might not.

As to y’all …

Go Nelson! It sure helps to have a Mom who’s so charming to all the retail staff, doesn’t it?

VanGo & colonoscopy: Different clinics have different ideas about needing rides. Also depends on what “knocked out” means. There’s fully unconscious, so-called twilight unconsciousness or amnesia, and fully conscious with anaesthetics for discomfort and maybe something for anxiety. So getting some clarity on their exact plans for you and their thoughts about transportation would be a good start.

Last couple times I went the anesthetic protocol was twilight / amnesia. Which left me a little lazy / hazy, but no worse than a couple drinks. I Ubered there and the clinic pre-arranged the ride home in what amounted to an uber, but the driver knew and expected he was transporting a post-anesthesia patient and had a plan if something went wrong w me.

It’s also true they can’t keep you prisoner there. Once you’re lucid enough to operate your phone, you can summon an uber or taxi or whatever is available wherever you are.

Friends are cheaper, but if you don’t have any handy, you don’t.

JtC: Wishing the best for cousin & all the related folks. Life has some really shitty rough patches and they’re smack-dab in the middle of one of the worst. {{HUGS}} to you for providing {{hugs}} to all of them.

The thread includes a bunch about hybrids too. Lotta hybrid owners are following the thread as well.

The PM system is exactly the same as the one you’re used to posting with. Pix & vids work exactly the same way there as here. Namely upload to Imgur, etc., and post a link here that points to there.

StickyBuns: Ouch about the tooth but hooray about the job. Early omens are good. Did the dentist not prescribe some pain meds for the time from wo to the extraction? Mine sure would have.

Still is, but officially unofficial. It’s a bitch to get down to and the water is British levels of cold that Boofae would be immediately familiar with.

Back from wandering in town, such as it was. I’m doing my best to avoid an argument - apparently, all decisions are up to me because it’s my trip. So, as far as I’m concerned, this is our last cruise.

End of whine.

Good morning, everyone.

It’s 55°F and sunny outside. Our expected daytime high temperature is 87°F, and there will be abundant sunshine. In other words, it’ll be hot for this PNW gal.

Dicey, that’s indeed troubling news, but I’m glad there’s a way forward and that the doc doesn’t seem to think it’s emergent.

FCM, I’m sorry that people are being prickly. I hope the day improves.

Boofae, have fun in Belgium. That sounds like an enjoyable trip.

Nellie, happy belated cake day, and I’m with the others. I look forward to your posts.

I did a little transplanting yesterday and watered the posies. I don’t want to do much in the flower beds/gardens against the house because the roofing guys will be here, and I just don’t want to take the chance of having hard work messed up. Also, the plants need to recover from shock, and tarping them wouldn’t be good. To build one of my beds, I need some pavers to work as liners so the dirt isn’t up against the fence. I plan to mound the bed, so I have to build it up a little, and I don’t want the dirt rotting the fence.

I drink water all day long, and so far, it’s rare that I need to get up in the night. I drink so much water that most soda and other drinks taste overly sweet to me anymore. I put a little ice in an insulated 40-ounce metal bottle and fill it with water. I have a smaller bottle for my car, and I always have it on hand when I go somewhere.

I’m meeting my friend T tomorrow morning to walk. I’m looking forward to it. She has some tea to spill about my former workplace, so it’ll be interesting to hear what’s going on.

Alright, it’s time for more coffee. Sending you all hugs just because.

And what time is supper? This sounds yummy!

Up, caffeinating, breakfasted and fixing to do KP. I’ll be making appointments for Sis to tour apartments today, so it’s getting closer. Other than that, a little packing and maybe a dog park trip.

Stay safe and healthy y’all!

Happy Firday all. Have done the Friday shopping and eaten pancakes and bacon for breakfast so have accomplished my major tasks for the day. Slothage and maybe some gym time, also need to mail a package of chocolates to my brother, but otherwise no major plans in store. About a 40% chance of a rainstorm sometime this afternoon, but bright and sunshiny right now.

–Gives BBBoo the V for Victory sign-

boo fae, down here in Ali-bama we call 73F October. Take care. And yeah, repeat training is never fun..I need to do a couple on-line classes for soccer coaching that I must do annually and they never change, so i put them on and pay about 40% attention. Enoy Antwerp, a place I have never been to but would like to see one day.

Sticky Buns, the Santa Cruz is interesting but an SUV is better for my needs now. And enjoy the teaching.

FCM, hooray for a clean balcony. But boo on no more cruises, there are so many to so many interesting places.

Pilot, sorry it was dinner for one, but sounds like it was a good night anyway. And thanks for the PM info; I don’t think I’ve ever posted to Imgur, but may take a flyer at it.

Been there, overate that.

On the micturation question, I try to track my input and…things vary. Usually I am up sometime between 2-4am and then am ok until later in the morning, sometimes I et a second call of nature around 6am. Bladders be weird.

red, good luck to Sis and you on the apartment hunt.

And onward into the day.

It takes all kinds, doesn’t it? The woman at the table next to ours at lunch was complaining that someone she didn’t know at another table was putting too much salt on his food. And as she left she said something to FCD about someone who should wear a mask. Um, what?? FCD declared she’s a busy body.

OK, I admit I kinda shook my head about the man who ordered a filet mignon with fries and ketchup on the side. It seemed wrong, but whatever. I didn’t snark to the people next to me about it. Yeah, I’m snarking to you, sorta, but I didn’t condemn him. It was just a combination that one rarely (never?) hears. Like, I dunno, lobster and baked beans?

We’ve got 3 at-sea days after we leave here. Gotta decide how we’ll fill the hours. Two promising lectures so far…

Oh yeah! Somehow swampy’s meal descriptions always smell fantastic. Shame he’s so secretive about his exact location or we could arrange a stealth MMP rendezvous at the ceemint pond on a sunny Sunday.

Doesn’t have to be Imgur; any place that will host photos for public consumption will do. Imgur seems to the consensus choice of the folks who post lots of pix here; I personally have never used it, but I rarely post pix.

As to night peeing versus hydration …
IME the key is to work your hydration all day. If it’s after dinner and then you notice you need 3 more quarts to make your daily quota, so you diligently slam down your 3 quarts, then yeah, you’re probably going to be up & peeing in the wee hours. (I wonder if that’s why they’re called that? )

Start early in the day and stick with it throughout the day and especially if hot, sweating etc. It doesn’t really benefit the body to be short of water all day long then fill your stomach with water & crawl in bed.

FCM: Sorry FCD was being difficult. For me at least, cranky goes with tired, hurting, and frustrated. He may be running out of his capacity to put a brave face on this trip he decided a month ago he couldn’t handle. And which his body is now telling him was a correct decision.

None of which is a reason for you to quit cruising.

Oh my, don’t the busybodies come out in force when there are big groups? I’ve overheard some doozies. The other fun ones to observe are the yentas who. can. not. shut. up. That feeling of gathering silence as you walk out of earshot is sooo comforting.

Steak Frites is a standard French way to serve nice beef. They don’t think of French Fries as a scruffy preparation suitable only for hamburgers. OTOH, if the guy put the ketchup on his filet, that would be cause for outrage; outrage I say!

Past time for me to get sorry ass in gear. Lovely day out there and I have little ambition. At least I have no need of food.

I am SO happy we were able to get cousins daughter out for lunch and weed before all this got really serious. (It was serious before. I honestly never thought that Gina would survive the year. It wasn’t “all of her organs are shutting down NOW” serious until Wednesday.)

They will be removing the vent today.

Hubs is being very productive, he’s doing all of those pesky little chores that are so easy to put off.

I’m thinking the real question is “Will it only take three months for the city to do all that work?”

If you don’t already have your advance directives and wills written, do it now. You never know if tomorrow is your day to get run over by an escaped elephant.

I’ve been there back in the day. Got sunburned in some very white places so didn’t go back.

I hope you have a wonderful trip.

I’m so excited for you! I just know this is going to be your favorite job

Dang about the dentist not doing root canals. I hope your tooth doesn’t get worse first.

So of course he won’t mind if your decision is to smack him upside the head with his own cane? (Pain often makes people crabby. Constant pain and bad sleep can also make them petty.)

Yeah, I’m sure pain is a major factor. And I’m thinking someone might just get a backrub tonight…

The sun is trying to break thru but the overcast is determined. Wonder what the next few days will hold. Hard to check the weather forecast when there’s no city to reference. So we’ll see when we see.

PS - what is Rustic Home-made Lasagne? Rustic?

I just cut into a one year old parm cheese and am now happily chewing on the rind. Yum.

that is all.

Woke up from a restless night and crappy dreams, so am still tired this afternoon even after a nap. Managed to do exercise, also. I took some of the baklava down to the front office staff to earn brownie points.

Sadie wouldn’t touch her food this morning, which is unlike her. Now she’s hiding under the bed. Hope she’s not ill.

If she’s hiding and that’s unusual, she’s probably sick. You might want to get her to a vet today.

Yeah, I’m keeping an eye on her. Her eyes are clear and she’s not moping about. She’s in the living room now on her perch, but still not eating.

I had a strange dream too, just as I woke up. When I dream I’ll usually remember them for a few minutes then I forget. This one I still remember. I was in church and supposed to be acting as a lector, the one who reads out the Scripture lessons. The print in front of me kept wiggling around, and I also kept mispronouncing words and losing my place. I totally screwed it up and I’ve never done that before. I’m not afreaid to speak in public either, so I don’t know what happened.

My 1pm mammogram appointment went very smoothly – I arrived at 12:45 and was back out the door at 1 – and I stopped at the grocery store on the way home, but I’ve been super tired and recovering from the heat ever since! It’s only 89°F but the heat index is 96, and it’s just not nice out there. Not the best day to forego deodorant (for the xray), but at least I didn’t start sweating until after the appointment…I don’t think I offended anyone at Giant. :joy:

Technically I’m still working, but I think I’ll wind up logging off early today. My boss and two of my direct reports are out of the office (it’s their regular every-other-Friday off), I finished everything I need to do for the proposal I’m supporting, and email and Teams are both quiet this afternoon (*knocks on wood*). I definitely have work to do, but I’m gradually convincing myself that the rest of it can wait until Monday. Heh.

Oh no! :frowning:

If you want, go ahead and send me a PM and we’ll work something out.

I generally prefer fries to a baked potato: if they’re an option when I order a filet, I get 'em. With ketchup (just for the fries). Perhaps we should never go to a steak place together. :joy:
