The 28th is always the day I need to be absolutely sure I pay my credit card. When I opened up the statement, I noticed a charge that I didn’t recognize. So, when I called, I asked for a representative. It took at least a minute of dealing with the frustrating computer voice for it to finally forward my call to an actual person. It turned out the charge I didn’t recognize was to pay for the software for the new computer. [head thump]. So that cleared that up and the woman who helped me was delightful; good start to the day.
Need to thoroughly water the garden. What I mean by that is that I use taters method in that I water at the base of each plant rather than from the top, getting mostly just leaves. For the vegetable garden, I use almost a half gallon per plant.
Mom used to volunteer at the Senior Center and one of Mom’s friends who worked there is retiring today so I will go to her party.
I’d also like to go to the Moneyball Tournament this evening. It’s a summer tournament in the Lansing area for collegians and college graduates. Only 2 players from the same college team can be on a summer moneyball team. There’s 6 teams so 12 Spartans can play. I haven’t been to Moneyball since before the pandemic. Nor have I been to any Spartan games or Midnight Madness, only one preseason scrimmage since before the pandemic; first due to covid then due to Hubs diagnosis. But since he had the first MMR shot 3 wks ago, I’m hoping that if I double mask, that I won’t pick up anything that if transmitted to him, might cause severe negative reaction. He gets his MMR booster first week of September, then it’s about a month after that he supposedly will have all his immunities restored. Anyway, the playoffs start tonight and it’s the last time that I could possibly see all the Spartan players in person until October or November when the season starts. Thursday is the championship and only 4 of the teams will play, rather than all 6.

Sunflower has decided that She need some direction and advice on Her workouts. I bought Her twelve sessions with a personal trainer that we like. Her training day is Tuesday. We went in for Her session and I went to the pool and swam laps. She does not swim very well and does not like the water. I love to swim, but I haven’t been in the pool because I did not want Her to think I did not want to work out with her.
Today on the way home we discussed it. She is fine with me swimming every Tuesday from here on out.

I don’t know. She mentioned it so casually (in response to someone else’s conversation), that it doesn’t seem to have fazed her. Just, ‘We heard the shots and didn’t know what they were. Then we heard more and knew someone was shooting. And then everyone started running.’
A few years back, we had a guy in to fix a washer that was being naughty. As he worked, I was asking him for recommendations for replacements and he said definitely avoid Maytag. Apparently they’d replaced some metal parts with nylon, and as might be expected, they weren’t as durable. So we got a Samsung instead and so far, it’s good. Plus we went to a front-loader.
For a 4-y/o, he has a quick wit, and he’s got the prettiest eyes - Daughter is bracing for all the girls who will be chasing after him. And maybe boys, for that matter…

I’m clean and properly clad after spending a bit over an hour pulling weeds. I filled a 5 gallon bucket, solidly packed, Slowly but surely, I’m making the hill look less awful.

Got it in one. Maytag’s build quality tanked after they were bought by Whirlpool. We replaced ours with an LG front loader. Our old front loader was a mildew factory. It didn’t matter how much we cleaned it of what with, the mildew would come roaring back. On the last repairman’s suggestion, the LG has a steam self-clean and we’ve stopped using Downey. There hasn’t been any mildew in the last year we’ve had it.
If any of you have to deal with RentCafe, you have my sympathies. They’re apparently a company that handles rental accounts for lots of apartment communities. I set up an account for BIL when he got his apartment and all has been fine till yesterday when I found out his account is locked. I’ve called the apartment management folks and the RentCafe folks and at the moment, it’s up to the apartment folks to submit a request to RentCafe’s IT folks to unlock the account. We shall see.
Last time I rented an apartment was 1975 and I paid rent by walking a couple of blocks down the street and handing over a check - for $150! Which would be about $935 today - quite a bit for a studio apartment I think. But I digress.
I just got a call from the comptroller at the apartment and she’s trying to figure out what has to be done. She just wanted to hear exactly what I told the finance person so she knows where to start. I just hope none of this affects his rent payment coming up. At least they know about the issue.

I don’t remember what I said last. Did I mention that MusicMan fell and hurt himself? I think I did. He’s on light duty until at least tomorrow. He’s also waiting to hear if he got a different job that he’s applied for that will be less chance for injury.
My mom is still in the hospital and doesn’t want to talk to anyone so I haven’t spoken with her in over a week.
I have applied for a 1099 position that would have me working as a teacher in home school environments. I think it sounds like fun, but I would have to rely on MusicMan for my insurance. I’m currently making cupcakes for MusicMan partly because I know he’s having a rough time and partly because they’re sugar free and they expire soon.
Yesterday did me in. In my 69 years on earth I have never felt humidity like that. It was like walking through Vaseline. Thank God, the sun was not out. Today is much better, sunny and 78 with much lower humidity. I’m spending the day at home recuperating.

The heaving itself seem to go smoothly. Cleanup? Well, something petrochemical got spilled on a bunch of boxes, so it took a while. On opposite extremes, Kohl’s shipped a ceramic planter loose in a plastic bag, which obviously didn’t make it. And we managed to break 2 out of 12 flower vase in a box, despite the inner box having cardboard partitions, and that box was wrapped in bubble wrap and put in a bigger box. On the way to take the oily cardboard to Hazmat, The Supreme Shouting Officer asked to to shake loose her snack from the vending machine. She was…happy. Which is fucking weird. I stopped at Aldi for the forgotten cheese tortellini, and grabbed some boneless, skinless fowl things for tonight’s burritos.
Yeah, I don’t think the building HVAC system could take a mortar attack. Glad the hips feel better, which ever thing did it.
I’ve never had a problem with it.

Turns out the problem wasn’t RentCafe so much as it was BIL’s account having an invalid email address. It was the one from FCD’s now-defunct business, which is why we never got any notifications about the changed login procedures. But after a series of phone calls, the email has been updated and I can now access all BIL’s account information. I don’t know what-all the apartment folks had to do to fix it, but they done good. So yay!
Two surprises in snail mail today. My bike helmet arrived a day early. Woohoo!! And FCD got a check for $230-something as part of a class-action settlement against the medical group in Baltimore that did his last spinal surgery. Apparently they had a data breach - funny how often that seems to happen to businesses. Anyway, we’re going to use part of his surprise to go out to supper tonight. So no cooking for me!!

In the spirit of the thread, today wound up with a bit more slacking than planned…
Couldn’t sleep, followed by couldn’t wake up. Did about an hour of actual work then took a lunch break. Went outside with the aim of going to pick some salad and noticed a pigeon was sitting there, which hadn’t taken off. It quickly became obvious that it couldn’t fly- it looked fine, but the right wing just wasn’t flapping right. I couldn’t just leave it there for the neighbours’ cats. I know people call them rats with wings, but then I also have rats without wings, so… I wound up catching it, pinching a spare carrier off the ratties, and- being unprepared for pigeon parenthood- spending the next couple of hours trying to find an animal rehabber that would take a pigeon. I eventually discovered an amateur rescue place which would take it which turned out to be literally 5 minutes away, so I am again pigeonless.
I did get a little bit of actual work stuff done.
The weather continues wet, with a few sunny spells earlier, and is expected to remain pretty wet for the next few days. Not ideal for the tomato ripening situation, but I definitely won’t complain unless it rains a lot more.
