(Old) A new topic for Slackards in the MMP

Yay! indeed.

Seriously, as our plane approached Da Nang Air Base, my clothes suddenly stuck to me. Then the smell hit: rotting vegetation and human funk. And that was the beginning of a year of that, non-stop.

Back from the infectious disease doctor. It was mostly same stuff, different day. The nurse who redressed my pic line did a much better job than the original nurse. It’s not pinchy now.

Moooom Where did you guys go to eat?

(((((Sticks)))))

((missred)) I hate being stuck.. I have stoopit veins

I got 8 applications put in today.. so not too bad for a first job hunting day. I also talked to my Uncle John and finished Sabbath School lesson for this week.

I also battled more AC woes (and made a horendous mess with flour (don’t. ask. just. don’t. ) )

Now it’s almost time to feed da scungy brothers and maybe finally relax for awhile..

Love love

We went to Tequila Grille - the pricier Mexican joint. Good food but, dang, $46 for 2 entrees and no drinks…

Now watching Ruthless People on Prime.

Howdy Y’all! OYKW made my bday cheesecake today. Our inner children demanded we cut into it this evenin’, so we did. YUM! He makes a very good Noo Yawk style cheesecake. We heaped macerated strawberries and whipped cream on top of our slices. I am soooooo full!

MOOOOOOM The Tobester likes grandma’s cookin’. OK, not exactly cookin’ and more like marinatin’. Hope the problem with BIL’s rent account is sorted out soonest. And I see it has been. Tequila Grill sounds like an innerestin’ place. I’ve grilled while drinkin’ tequila, but I have an idea that’s not the same thing.

*BBBoo hope you are stayin’ inside in the a/c as well whilst you wrangle grankids. Of course their wastrel dad is gorgin’ himself on cheesesteaks. Wouldn’t you?

Mollie rest assured I would never strumpet shame you. After all I floozied a lot durin’ my wasted youth.

Pearl glad you got your unemployment re-issued with no problems.

Hippie that sounds like a win-win situation for Sunflower and you!

Sticky_Buns hope MusicMan gets the job he applied for. So sorry for what you’re goin’ through with your mom. Also hope you get the position you applied for.

Nuts good on you for lookin’ after the flyin’ rat pigeon. You get a :star:!

That must have been so annoying!

You are a very good person.

So its been very wet here today. Lots of thunder as well. We are still under some sort of extreme weather warning but at least the tornado danger is over. 1.35 inches of rain so far and we are expecting more. We went out to the bakery that makes potato candy, Hubs wanted to order some for the reunion and I went to look at the river. It is high and muddy and moving but not high enough to over run the banks and pretend it is Ms Peach.

PT went well, it kinda hurts sometimes but the stretching really does feel good. He didn’t add anything to my homework but said that if I wanted to add a fifth full set per day, it would only help. I’m going to take my sling off to eat at the reunion, I can reach my mouth now and there will be so many yummy deserts to try.

I napped. Up now, having a Greenpoint, and chicken burritos for dinner. It’s currently 81 degrees Ferret Height(27.222 Centipedes), with a Heat Index of 92F(32.778C), it’s thunderstorming, and the lights are flickering.
TIL at one point you could buy an Abercrombie and Fitch Luger

The smell I understand, but I at least get a 16 hour break between doses.

Yay!

Glad you’re pigeon-less for the right reasons. Although I would have had it stand for election to the local MP seat instead of rescuing it.

Always a good sign.

A bit stormy on the east coast today. We just had an intense storm go through. Hope y’all are all safe at home.

It was a very long day, as I knew it would be, but I had some good weather timing again at the end of it: there was thunder and lightning when I left the office, but the rain stopped just before I made the dash from the building to the garage – and there was no rain on my drive home, because both the storm and I were moving south (and I was slightly ahead of it the whole time). I was able to pull into my garage, haul the biiiiiig trash can in from curb, and grab a delivery box from the top of the front steps before the skies darkened here. After changing into my jammies, instead of heading straight to the TV room I decided to start building one of my new Lego sets so I could watch the storm arrive (the kitchen table has the best view): it was intense for about 2 minutes, but ultimately undewhelming. Meh.

I have always loved thunderstorms, but for 17 years my appreciation was tempered by the presence of a scared/miserable doggy…and, after Bailey died, for a long time they just reminded me of her. I think part of that was being able to picture her in her “storm spots” in the old house. I think I could enjoy a proper one again now!

It’s 9:49pm, and I’ve been in the TV room for a couple of hours: binge-watching old shows, surfing the Dope, and doing a terrible job with the three New York Times online games/puzzles that I play most evenings (Connections, Strands, and Spelling Bee). I’m pretty tired, so I think I’ll go to bed after this episode of The Big Bang Theory ends.

Heh!

I forgot to mention the name of the class: “The Philosophy of Love.” The syllabus included Plato, Aristotle, etc. I have literally failed love. :joy:

The Maytag washer and dryer here seem relatively new (all of the appliances are), but it’s my first HE washer. If I encounter the “stuck” thing a third time, I might try one of the hard resets the internet suggests; or I might call the appliance repair guy I used a couple of times at my old place.

Not around here: $1600-$1800 seems to be the average. I’ve seen studio listings as low as $1200, but anything for less than $1000 in this ZIP code is probably a room vs an apartment.

Not in the Nashville area. My last apartment there was a 1 BR / 560 sq. ft. and it was $1200. Had it been in Nashville proper instead of a working class suburb, it would have been $1500 or more. I pay less with utilities included here in Houston than I did there.

Well, I spoke too soon about the redressing. I started to infuse this evening and the port extensions are blocked. I’m on call back for the nurse, but I foresee having to go back in tomorrow (dammit!).

I just did a search and there are several studios about the same size I had. They run $1300 to almost $1800. Yolks! But they’re close to the base and I’m guessing their target tenants are contractors. My mortgage is just a bit over $1600. I can’t imagine paying that much or more for 300 sq ft.

We had a couple of noisy downpours earlier, including a power burp. But it just lasted a few seconds. Now all is quiet and my eyes want to close.

zzzzzzzzzzzzz

Late night final time. Did my daily gym workout and packed in the pasta for dinner, so all is right on the fitness and food fronts. Still 84F at 9:30pm so glad the AC is working, albeit the electric bill next month will not be much fun.

And a lot to cover before bedtime, so best be about it…

Flyboy, thanks for the info, my knowledge of Frisbees is that I cannot throw one worth a damn. And glad co-worker is OK; had to be a bit traumatic, even if she says it wasn’t.

Cat Glove, I have two credit cards, one due on the 21st and the other on the 6th, so I try to alternate between them so the charges are generally split. And so far I have not caught a bad charge, the ones I had questions about were usually a combination of wording and poor memory. Still check them a couple times a week. Hope you got to see some good BB.

Pearl, sounds like a good start to the new job hunt. Best Wishes.

Hippie, sounds like a win-win on the exercise front for both you and Sunflower.

red, hope they can get the port working right. And reading further, sounds like they did…Yay!

FCM, haven’t had to pay rent for over 30 years now, and it was always a check to the office of the complex I lived at, so I know your frustration. Glad it got worked out. And great news on Helmet and check. Didn’t get any mail today or it came later than I wanted to get dressed for.

Sticky Buns, best wishes to Music Man, hope he heals up nicely. And fingers crossed on the teaching job.

wet one, when I lived in Abu Dhabi we would have 110F heat and the humidity coming off the Arabian Sea that stepping out of my house would instantly fog my glasses up. And yeah, it will take a lot out of you.

doggio, you may know be the designated machine shaker for the SSO.

Nut, that was a good thing you did for that poor pigeon, hope it recovers completely so it can be eaten by a feral cat…(I’ll get my hat…).

JtC, we had a 50% chance of rain today, but nothing showed up, so we’ll see what tomorrow brings. Keep at the PT and enjoy the goodies at the reunion.

Oopsie, had the same thing happen to me on my driving vacation; came out of a Wendy’s where I had stopped for lunch and got in just before the rains started, and then drove out of the downpour and made it to my hotel and got all my stuff inside before it caught up to me again. And {{ }} for your memories of Bailey.

I can find a 2BR apartment around here for about $1,700 or so a month, I’m hoping when I’m ready to move in a couple of years the glut of new apartments will have forced the prices down, but I’m not optimistic.

And it’s after 10pm, been up without nappage for 16 hours, so I think I will retire to the bedroom for some serious sleepage. Catch y’all tomorrow.

Our last mortgage payment was 680.00. I don’t think I would be able to sleep at night with a mortgage over a thousand a month.

I know that rooms are going for around 800 a month in the Huntington area, but that’s a college town. All of the trailers Harry and family rent out are between 5 and 800 but they are mostly renting to family and friends.

You must have have gotten the last bits of our storm system. All is quiet here and Hubs is planning on riding his motorcycle tomorrow.

I am going to change the sheets. Now that I know how to do it one handed, it goes much faster. As long as I wait until the fuzzbutts are asleep in my room that is. If they are awake it can take hours.

Oh dear, a stray lightning bolt just hit and George ran across Hub’s bare skin. Its good I was already planning on washing the sheets.

Well swampie I was going to offer to bake you a birthday cake but I see you are already eating. Do you ever have cakes with booze in them? Or fruitcake soaked with whiskey?

Have a happy birthday tomorrow, and know I am one hundred and fifty five days younger than you.

I had a momentary outage this evening too. It sounded like a transformer blew and was just off long enough to have to reset things.

I got the call back. The nurse consulted with another nurse and figured it out. Apparently, the extensions they put on today have an Itty bitty clamp that doesn’t look like a clamp up at the port end. Once I unclaimed the tubes, everything worked. I’m just glad I won’t have to go back tomorrow.

Up, caffeinated, and sheveled. Off to heave. It’s currently 71 degrees Ferret Height(21.667 Centipedes) outside.

Lord, my is $1550, and that’s 1300 sq ft and 2 bedrooms.

 :birthday_cake: :tada: Happy birthday, swampy! :tada: :birthday_cake:

Morning, mumpers! It’s currently 22c/71f with a predicted high of 28c/82f and mostly sunny. Weather app says “Warm, fucking clear blue skies. It’s fucking great today.”

hippie I’m glad you and Sunflower have found exercise that you enjoy and you can be happy doing what you like.

{{{{{Sticky_Buns and Music Man}}}}} I hope things improve for you, and I hope your mum decides soon that she wants to talk again. Best o fluck with the job application!

Nut well done finding somewhere willing to take a pigeon, sorry to hear you didn’t last long as pigeonparent though.

Yesterday was not a greatly productive day. I logged out of irk on time and went to do campus food for two days, then had some sofa time with Blossom before feeding the mogs and taking myself to the gym. I got home and put all my gym stuff in the wash as it was absolutely minging. The washer has an express cycle that takes 15 minutes so that was useful.

Dinner was chicken curry that I made at lunchtime and just needed to heat up again, and we finished watching “Devs” which was bizarre, surreal and technologically nonsense. Glad it’s finished, would not recommend and dearly hope there is not going to be a second season. I was in bed by 10pm which is good because I had a bit of a restless night and was up early to get to campus.

Hopefully I will be going to the pub with my friends tonight, one of them is fit and well, just waiting for the other one to decide if he can be out of the house for an hour or three.

I am slightly peeved this morning, I’d only done campus food for two days because one of the rail unions was promising industrial action on Friday and Saturday so I would have worked from home. They cancelled the strike this morning. Bah!

Happy Swampy day! :birthday_cake: :tropical_drink:

Having a slightly late start, but I promise I’ll get on with it in a minute. I am not anticipating any more pigeon-shaped distractions.

I may not have pinched a cat’s lunch (they probably wouldn’t be feral here, the UK norm is still outdoor cats, which I do not think is a good idea at all, but some cat rescue places will only allow cats to be rehomed in places where they can go outside); as I was closing the bedroom curtains last night a fox jumped up on my back wall and stood there a few minutes, looking around. Looked like a youngster. I don’t often see them here.

Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN ‘Tis 79 Amurrkin out and mostly cloudy with a predicted high of 95 with a heat index of 114. ICK! It will become sunny later this mornin’ then cloudy this afternoon with a chance of rain/tstorms/apocalypse late afternoon into early evenin’. I have made another trip ‘round the sun. Rah. We shall procure provisions this mornin’ and then be bears who lunch at Asia hog trough Buffet, as it’s my bday, so my choice. I can get some pretty decent sushi there which is what I want. The rest of the day shall be devoted to RDOS sloth inside in the a/c.

JtC glad PT went well. The hurt discourages some folks, but keep it up, as I know you will. The prospects of yummy desserts would motivate me, for sure! I can’t remember the last time I had potato candy. I do recall it as bein’ good but a couple of pieces were always enough.

red glad your pic line is no longer pinchy. I hope you were able to reach the nurse and won’t have to go back tomorrow. I see now you had success. HUZZAH!

doggio you are way far more sophisticated with your adult libations than me. They all sound so nummy!

Oopsie sittin’ out on the back porch with an adult libation and watchin’ a tstorm is one of our favorite things to do. However if there’s cloud to ground lightnin’, we do have enough sense to be inside. I, too, do an awful job with the puzzles but do so enjoy my attempts.

CupCakes I will eat fruitcake if’n it’s boozy. One of my favorite cakes is Lane Cake.. Then there’s the pound cake with the rum and pee-kahn glaze my mom made. I need to find that recipe.

BooFae and Nuts thanks for the bday wishes!

Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then I shall purtify and don attire acceptable for bein’ amongst the great unwashed.

Happy Hump Day Y’all!
