My older daughter leases a one bedroom apartment with a garage in a gated complex for $1850 a month. My younger daughter still lives in our basement
Happy Swampy Day to my favorite old fart!!! And welcome to the world of 72. You’ll find it’s not much different from 71, except for maybe a few extra aches and groans. 
Today starts with 65 Ferrets and we may add 20 more when it peaks. I plan to start (after proper surfage) by doing some more weeding. And once I quit that and clean up, there’ll be a trip to the grocery stores for some provisions, including canned Diet Coke, which FCD prefers to the bottled version. No clue why, but whatevs… That’s the extent of plans.
Theoretically, we won’t get any more rain this week - we sure got a big dose yesterday! But that will make weeding easier - when the dirt is wet, the roots come out more readily, so yay.
I can’t believe what some rents are. BIL’s is cheap, but it’s also subsidized because his sole income is SS. Merrylande is 8th highest in the nation for rents. And apparently in this area, rentable properties are being gobbled up by companies that then raise rents stoopit high. Not that affordability is a big deal… 
In my daughter’s development, small apartments start at $1700, and houses look to be in the $3-6K range. Holy crap!!! No wonder people can’t buy - they can’t save enough for down payment and closing costs!
Anyway… I’ll release Otis from his crate shortly, then don grubbies and get some icky work done before it gets too hot. So onward!

Out of curiosity, I just checked Bristol for rent, where I used to live: the cheapest dingy studio in a bad area I could find was, at current exchange rates, around $1080 a month, but there were still single rooms in house shares well above that price. Even a crappy tiny room on the edge of the city starts at around $600, and many of them have extra stuff added above the headline price.
This is part of why I don’t live there any more. Anyone coming out with that traditional claim that you should spend no more than 1/3 of your income on housing gets chased out the city with a pitchfork.
Where I am now is one of the cheaper bits of the UK; you can find a dingy one bed flat for around half that, hell, you can sometimes buy a dingy one bed flat here for the equivalent of 3-4 years rent in Bristol.
Anyway, I should get back to staring at graphs.

I happen to be sitting at the car dealership while they’re doing maintenance on my vehicle and the television is overly loud and playing The Brady Bunch! Woohoo?
I forgot to tell y’all about my UPS adventure the other day. I bought an approximate 4 ft tall wooden welcome sign that looks like the kind of dog that a friend of mine has. I decided that I’d rather ship it to her instead of dragging it along when we have our whole school meetup. MusicMan and I wrapped the present and took it to the UPS store to ship it off. Unfortunately due to the dimensions of the present, the only box that would fix was a bicycle box. The first girl then presented us with the price to ship my $26 gift - it would have been $386! The second girl then told us that basically if we got our own box that was appropriate to the size, that it would only cost $18 to ship. So, um, yeah, I’ll be looking for a box in the next couple days…

For some reason, waiting rooms around here, whether dealerships or doctors’ offices, all tune to HGTV! I quit watching that channel eons ago when they went from actually teaching you home maintenance stuff to all the fakey reality-show nonsense. I’d almost prefer old sitcoms. Tho I do take my tablet and try to block out everything else.
OK, dog is up and fed. SIL has come and gone - I’d forgotten he was picking up a suitcase for Daughter’s trek to Akron this weekend and he dropped off my hedge trimmers. So it’s time to don the grubbies and yank some weeds. woo and hoo.

Yesterday, I felt rather warm, and I checked the thermostat. The indoor temp was 79 F. Mrs. Nott remembered to try the Raytheon reset. She turned the system off, waited a minute, and turned it back on. Bingo! The a/c remembered how to do its assigned task. Today is predicted to be sunny and 81 ferret farts. Hmm…ferret hats?
Doggio, the problem of paid-for snacks getting hung up happens often enough that I think the machines should have a built-in shaker button.
Sticky and FCMom, it could be worse. I was once stuck in a waiting room with a TV playing Fox News. I told the receptionist I’d be waiting in the hall.

Good morning, all! It was 77ºF with the dewpoint at 75ºF, so we swam. I dug around in my workout clothes pile until I found a wrist sweatband. I am quite thankful that I did. With relative humidity at 96% at ground level, it was a bit overcast. Dark grey skies becoming slightly lighter grey skies do not make for good sunrises. I did see a bun on someone’s front porch, sitting on the welcome mat, like it was waiting to be let inside. As I was getting out my phone to take a picture, Chloé saw it, too. The bun noped on out of there before I could get a pic. It was rather amusing.
I need to win the lottery. With as much as I am wearing my new wig, I’m going to wear it out. Good quality wigs are expensive.
Happy Birthday, Swampy! It’s funny, I saw the birthday wishes above, and thought, “Oh, cool, Swampy’s birthday is the day before my father’s birthday… Oh shit! Tomorrow is Dad’s birthday!” So, um… thanks… I guess.
Oopsie - I enjoy a good thunderstorm, too. I used to get my best sleep in them. Unfortunately, the drainpipe runs outside my bedroom window, and I end up having to use the bathroom instead of sleeping.
red - The Nashville rents are outrageous. I don’t understand how anyone can afford to live here.
Knots - I usually keep my thermostat set to 78ºF, which keeps me comfortable with the ceiling fan running. I don’t know why, but if it is set to 79ºF, I just feel hot. It doesn’t make sense.

Red, I’m glad the PIC line issue was easily fixed and that it’s no longer pinchy.
The average rent for a one-bedroom apartment where I live is around 1,750 bucks a month. Some rents are much higher, especially if the apartments are new, and some are as low as 1500. House rents run very high here. My first apartment rent was 150 bucks a month back in 1983/1984.
I puttered around the house some more yesterday and gave my plants a good soak. I also sneakily pulled some weeds, but I bent down like a lady, and then sat on the ground to do so. I didn’t do much because the area I was weeding was on the slope, and the areas I need to hit don’t allow for me to sit. I have to bend over and move plant branches, leaves, and fronds, to get to the weeds.
I also enjoy a good thunder and lightning storm.

This is my week of doctor appointments. Yesterday was my PCP, today is the dentist, tomorrow is allergist. Friday Ursala Kitteh goes to the vee eee tee.
Morning all. Body wanted to get up at 6am again; brain told body to get back to sleep and it did until 7:30. Have done a couple minor things and have nothing much planned except getting the garbage bin to the curb something this evening. 80F already and heading to 90F, so another good day to be an indoors person.
JtC, may have to move to W. Virginia for those rental prices…

Knots, I usually have my house around 77 or 78F, but then again I tend to wear..minimal..clothing being by myself (have some at hand if company comes calling).

Got up at a quarter to five, put pre-made chorizo and scrambled eggs into a tortilla with some shredded cheddar (i.e., virtually no prep time), nuked it 40 seconds (before putting the cheese in) and ate it, and had a cuppa joe, and it was still after 05:30 before I started my walk. Shaved and showered, and now it’s 07:53 and I’m three minutes late getting dressed.

It was a nice 73F when I got up at 0700. Now it’s 83 with a dew point of 72F. Bleah.
Back to exercise this morning, which was good. Savory oatmeal this morning and I added some walnuts for an extra protein hit. The hips are behaving for now, which is also good.
Had a long FB chat last evening with my eldest about his kids and their further education. The younger, who is somewhat of a musical prodigy is already looking at options, even though he just starts high school next year. They are seriously considering the AF Orchestra/Band, which is permanently stationed in Colorado. They have a really good program with all manner of musical opportunities like a jazz ensemble, a rock band, etc. They also play civilian venues as well as official functions. He would be getting a paycheck and doing what he loves.
We’ll be helping out with the eldest’s college costs over the next few years.
Cookie - My old rector was in the AF Band before he’d heard the calling. He always spoke highly of it.
Both Lowe’s and Home Depot sell a wide range of sizes and shapes of boxes. U-Haul stores do also but they are more expensive.
