(Old) A spot of good news in the MMP

So that’s what makes the cats sticky.

Good afternoon. Very busy with work today. And the HVAC guy came this morning to tune up the heating systems. It looks like the refrigerant line for the heat pump is blocked. To repair would require replacing the connectors and draining and replacing all the refrigerant. It may be more cost effective to replace the heat pump. Mrs Magill and I going to have to discuss. We had already replaced the main floor HVAC this spring.

I had to laugh. At one point the HVAC guy came to my office and sheepishly asked if I could call his phone, as he had no idea where he’d put it down. It was in one of his pockets. He thanked me and went back to his work muttering something about how cargo pants have too many pockets.

Back when I was smoking, I had a cow-orker who would join me outside for a “fresh-air break”. Of course, he was standing with us smokers, so I’m not sure how fresh his air was.

I say “Woosta-sher sauce”

today is the office halloween party. wild times in the cafe area.

my breakfast cereal was and still is: corn pops, frosted flakes, lucky charms, cap’n crunch ( love soggy cap’n crunch). some times if i am feeling somewhat adult, i will mix frosted flakes with raisin bran.

:musical_note: one of these things is not like the other one :musical_notes:

Yeah, but that’s often when the good gossip is shared.

 So many easy solutions! Stitch/staple a couple shut. Mentally declare a pocket off-limits.

Or. Yanno. Don’t buy/wear cargo pants?

(This message brought to you by the Vast Committee Of Women Who Think “Too Many Pockets” Is A Nice Problem To Have, who by the way will be meeting next Wednesday.)

Let Monkey out for a trial run - he has the zoomies, and bright sunshine isn’t his typical R-U-N-N-O-F-T time, so he can derp around chasing the last of the fly population.

Monkey: “Just call me Lord of the Flies!”

Shopping trip minimally successful, but the local shoe shops turned out to be a bit crap; I think I shall need a trip into the Proper City if I want to get to try stuff on. I’d better get a move on though, before the Christmas markets hit and it gets completely clogged up with tourists sipping overpriced Glühwein while staring at stalls of identical ‘handcrafted’ tat and pretending it’s worth the trip.

Pub night has been postponed til tomorrow.

About noontime I realized that I’d forgotten to buy scallions yesterday for today’s dinner. Also forgot half/half for my coffee and chunky peanut butter for the wife. So back to the bloody store to buy the bloody stuff. Bloody hell.

A beautiful day in MSP after last night’s storms. The trees up the street are lovely shades of yellow and orange.

That’s how I say it too.

Groceries are bought and put away. Where I grocery shop, they tend to have reasonably staffed checkout. The line that I got into was slow though. The checker was new and had to look up every PLU for the produce in a store with a zillion kinds. She was sweet though and apologized for the delay and I’m retired, so no big wuh. Everything is now put away and lunch et. Next is taking Nelson out for his midday constitutional.

The same as yesterday, except. ! Screaming O shoveled me up to the 200 Sort Table for a bit. 2. Somebody ordered 129 boxes of notebooks, then said ,“Naw”. So they got shuffled up to the Mez to get returned, which overloaded the Mez belt. Which we had to leave to finish up the Sort. And when we did get back at it, there was no exception program on 9 of 20 work stations, and I had 50% of the thing done by the time TSG get it on one PC for J to help me with. Then they cut the belt motors, so we couldn’t send it down. Then we had to restack them, and in the end the feed belt was jammed with boxes for 100 yards solid I got to the damages at 1030, it wasn’t bad, apart from the printer on the 100 and 200 Slides talking to the sort assist label program, but not the Exception program. Also, theress a bug where packages that have had a redirect from the original address to a UPS Store or an access point, are popping error messages, and can’t be delivered. All this and it’s not even Peak Season yet. I did my Senior Day shopping afterwards. Noon 30 is a bad time to shop, I think I parked closer to home than Teeter. The Small Egyptian God alternated wanting cuddles, demanding things, and ignoring me. So that’s back to normal.

Well, we didn’t want you to be down in the dumpster.

Auditioning replacement primates.

He got bathed. And if you’re ever in a Saw movie, and have the choice between bathing Spot or fighting a starving grizley in a small room, pick the bear.

“I regret nothing.” - Spot

Best news ever!

I prefer Twinkies over Ding Dongs. And Honeycomb was my jam. Or Grape Nuts with lots of sugar.

Had to get out the Christmas lights last night. Well, the LED tea lights that I bought last year for Christmas. The power went out at 7pm, and stayed out for 2 hours. Two of the tea lights didn’t have any charge, but the other 4 did, so I had one with me, one in the bathroom, one in the kitchen, and one for hubby. Fortunately I had downloaded a book on my Kindle, so I got to catch up on my reading.

And now that I’ve caught up on this week’s MMP, I’m going to go finish my book.

I’ve had to mostly skim this week’s thread so far, but will say “hooray” for the return of the prodigal feline!

The staffing drama continues at work: on Monday one of my boss’s other direct reports let me know that he’s resigned, and late on Tuesday (at, like, 5:30) I learned that a subcontractor on my staff has been applying to and interviewing for other positions on our program. It all got straightened out today, but when I learned about it – and learned that he’d interviewed with people who know me well enough that they should have said something – I’ll admit I spiraled a little. I felt kinda betrayed by everyone, and started wondering if the reason no one had said anything is that he doesn’t like me as a manager (and/or a person) and asked everyone to keep quiet…and so now all of these other managers know that I’m a bad boss. Why yes, I do have some deep insecurities about my managerial skills[1]; that news triggered all of them! It was the most upset I’d been since Bailey died, and her furry face always made me feel better: when I got in the car to drive home and caught myself looking forward to seeing her…just for a split second…well, I’d already been on the verge of tears. I had to sit in the parking lot for a few minutes while my eyes leaked. Like I said, the work thing got handled today and everything’s fine now[2], but what an emotional one-two punch I had that evening!

Yesterday was a very long day (I left my house at 7:30am and got home at 9:40pm), but HusbandBFF’s prostate removal surgery went well and he was released this afternoon; WifeBFF just texted me a few minutes ago to let me know they’re home. I’d offered to meet them at the house if she wanted an extra pair of hands, but she said they’d be fine. We’ll see if he feels up to me stopping by sometime this weekend.

I’m really glad I was able to work from home today, so I could sleep in a little bit and stay in PJs all day. But I had two meetings about the subcontractor situation, a handoff meeting related to my guy who resigned last week, a meeting with my new project manager to provide guidance related to a couple of emails she sent while I was OOO yesterday, and another meeting that I facilitate every week (but that happily lasted just 20 minutes today). Plus I fielded several questions about an upcoming deadline, and two random questions from senior leaders who probably could have found the answers themselves (but I’m glad they feel comfortable asking me). Oh, and have I mentioned that my boss has been on vacation all week?

Tomorrow I’ll be leaving the house at 7:30am again, this time to take my father to an outpatient procedure in Baltimore. Afterwards we’ll have lunch at Bob Evans (not my favorite, but Dad loves it), then once he’s home I’ll head back to Virginia. Whenever I get here I’ll log into work and put in a couple/few hours: I have way too much to do to take another full day off, especially since I will be taking another full day off on Tuesday. :ballot_box:

For now, though, work is over and the night is mine. I’m looking forward to making popcorn and reading for a little while, then watching some TV.

If I can’t start catching up with y’all tomorrow evening, I’ll be more interactive on Saturday!

  1. part of why I put off becoming a people manager until I was almost 50, and not completely unrelated to why I never wanted to be a parent ↩︎

  2. except that my guy doesn’t like his job; I’ll be helping him find a better fit as best I can, but guess who gets to do EVEN MORE HIRING?? ↩︎

Arrived home to find 2 cats lounging in my driveway. I know the big fluffy white one owns the next door neighbors, but the smaller less fluffy black one I didn’t recognize. It wasn’t Brian, the short hair bule-gray dude who used to hang out on my porch.

Fluffy white strolled into the neighbor’s yard and hung out there, much to the chagrin of Ms Peach, I think I have made the fence dog proof. She did much searching up and down and lots of standing up like a sneetch to stare at fluffy. The black one went I don’t know where.

Afternoon all. Gym sweatage has been completed and a protein bar and and apple have been my reward, with more to follow. Weather is beautiful, didn’t even need a jacket today, but there is a threat of rain this weekend, so we’ll see what develops.

And catching up on the 20 messages since this morning…

Coppertone, hope the banking got straightened out without too much fuss.

Catglove, hope the shot brought Hubs some relief.

FCM, we have multiple car washes around here, don’t know how they all stay in business, but get the same question about memebership and give them the same answer you do.

red, glad to hear Rick is doing better. Continuing the positive waves.

Taters, happy house-futzing!

wet one, hoping along with you for the shots to help out.

JtC, that’s a good use for the old towels, have to remember that.

These days for me it’s Cheerios, Rice Krispies, and Corn Flakes, with occasional visits by Cocoa Krisipies and Frosted Flakes. Pretty much the same as when I was young.

Mollie, HVAC calls always seem to lead to parting with amounts of cash-hope you get a good deal. And I’ve used my land-line on occasion to figure out where I left my phone at.

Nut, plenty of shoe stores around me, but I have enough (5 pairs+2 pair athletic shoes) to not have to worry about them for awhile.

Cookie, sounds like somebody didn’t make a list…or at least didn’t check it twice…

red, the Publix near me usually has 2-3 cashiers available, but Kroger and Wal-Mart have minimal staffing, preferring that the customer do all the work.

doggio, still don’t understand 60% of what you say, but I can understand FUBAR just fine. And yeah, I try to do my Firday shopping early so I can dodge the madhouse. And one of my favorite You Tube channels, Girl With the Dogs also washes and grooms cats, which can, on occasion, be…uncooperative.

Dicey, haven’t had Xmas lights out (or in) my house since I’ve lived here, just doesn’t seem worth the bother. Enjoy the book.

Oopsie, I hope you are feeling better and I am sure you are a fine manager, just folks not wanting to discuss personnel changes, not unusual IMHO. Glad Husband BFF came through surgery fine, and best wishes to your Dad (and I can take or leave Bob Evans, haven’t been to one in many a year).

And getting close to 6pm so need to be thinking about dinnertime. Y’all take care now.

I was never that into Twinkies, except maybe the chocolate ones. I liked the cupcakes better, but only got them when I decided that I’d blow my allowance on a package. We never really got much cold cereal, but when we did, it was rarely the sugar bomb stuff of every kids’ dreams.

That’s when I would demand an employee discount.

Glad HusbandBFF got along fine with surgery, oopsie.

Howdy Y’all! I ironed shirts today. Go Me! I rewarded myself with an ice cold beerverage after the ordeal. Nappage and more day drinkin’ were also accomplished. The Po’ folks beef stroganoff was very good, if’n I do say so myself.

My favorite cereals as a cub were Cocoa Krispies, Sugar Pops (are those made anymore?) and Wheaties. :musical_notes: One of those things is not like the others. :musical_notes: However, the best part of the cereal was drinkin’ the leftover cereal milk. YUM!

Nuts I, for one, am greatly relieved the biiiiiig bin got emptied.

MOOOOOM I get even with God on a regular basis then. Happy Bday to your BIL! You have reminded me I need to get vehicle washed before I go to Diocesan convention next weekend. I wouldn’t want to be glared at by Whiskypalians over cocktails, now would I?

Knotty just keep your eye on the prize, Cold Stone Creamery ice cream! The biggest thing I miss about UGA is the creamery. The ice cream there was homemade and so dang good!

BooFae hope TM was not to much of a problem. HAH! I made a funny! Yay for payday! Of course you must buy gig tickets. We go to concerts vicariously through you.

Cookie YIKES! I gather daughter made it home safe.

Lily I have had borscht both hot and cold. The cold one was ick, but the hot one was very nummy, especially with a glop of sour cream in it. However, I will not eat beets. Go figure.

JtC hope GG and Jolene have made up by now. Twinkies are more of a kid food, though I know adults who like 'em still. Those little cream filled cupcakes with the squiggle on top, however, are da bomb! I see now that GG and Jolene have made up.

Coppertone hope it’s not to much of a hassle to change your bank account. Sorry it got compromised.

Cat_Glove glad hubs finally got shot today.

Mollie oh the joys of HVAC! Glad you could assist the HVAC guy in findin’ his phone.

doggio glad all’s right again with Spot.

Oopsie so sorry you had such a rough day, but glad things got handled. Glad HusbandBFF’s surgery went well and that he is home. Hope dad’s outpatient surgery goes well. Also, takin’ him to a place he loves for lunch will earn you major karma points.

Nice to see the gang’s all still here

Great to see you again! Been way too long.

Yes, she did. She posted a photo of her hand shaking from the adrenaline rush.

Wiki: Corn Pops is a puffed grain breakfast cereal made by WK Kellogg Co, described by the company as “crunchy sweetened popped-up corn cereal.” The cereal was introduced in 1950 as “Corn Pops”. In 1951, the name was changed to “Sugar Corn Pops” and later to “Sugar Pops”. It was the sponsor for The Adventures of Wild Bill Hickok radio and television show. The name was changed back to ‘Sugar Corn Pops’ in 1978, and finally returned to ‘Corn Pops’ in 1984, a time when many cereals dropped the word “sugar” from their titles for marketing reasons. In January 2006, the name of the cereal was changed to ‘Pops’, but after a few months of poor reception was changed back to Corn Pops.

Frosted Mini-Wheats for me.

2gig! I was thinking about you the other day - obviously I have the power to summon! Pull up a beanbag and tell us everything!

The landscapers came today to replace a few dead plants. And with that done, I plan to plant a bunch of naked ladies all over the hill. With luck I’ll get to it after the laundry is done. Or on Saturday. We shall see.

I took Otis for a walk this afternoon - it was so nice outside. The only thing was that I had to be hypervigilant for squirrels lest the big doofus decide to take off and dislocate my arm in the process. My arm and assorted squirrels survived.

And thanks to waking stoopit early, I’m about to toddler to bed. Goodness knows I need my beauty sleep! TTFN.

Up from naptime. Watching hockey and handegg. Having an Aviation, Baked Fried chicken, cheesy **N.O.T.**s, and black eyed peas with red pepper flakes.
HAPPY NATIONAL CAT DAY!!!
