Gardener or serial killer? Inquiring minds…
Welcome back 2gig!
Late night final time. Not that I have done anything the least bit constructive, outside of fixing a couple of cheese dogs and some pod desserts (applesauce and chocolate pudding pods) and putting the dishwasher dishes back where they belong so I can start filling the dishwasher again. Have my shopping list for Firday ready to go, that will be the big duty of the day. Watching the tackleball game on Amazon Prime on another window, but it’s getting one-sided so may end my viewing early. Otherwise a very RDOS evening.
Swampy, you and Knots mentioning Cold Stone makes me want to do the 30-minute drive to the other side of town for some I-scream from them.
2gig! Good ta see ya around the MMP again. Don’t be a stranger (well, at least not any stranger than you previously were…).
FCM, glad none of the squirrels were in kamikaze mode for Otis’s walk.
doggio , a cat doing what a cat does best (except for plotting humanities demise…)
And will watch to see if Carolina can hold the Pachyderms out of the end zone and if they can’t I will retire to the bedroom for my travels to Slumberland. Take care all.
Me too. But I didn’t eat them as a child because we didn’t get desserts or snacks. It was when I was in college. In the dorm if you missed lunch, you could go down to a cafe in the basement and use your meal plan to get a certain $ amount of food. I would get as many Ding Dongs as I could then would go to early dinner time.
I’m on that committee. I love my hiking pants that have 4 front pockets. I never use back pockets.
Hubs likes breakfast at Bob Evans. I do not go.
We went to the Detroit Pistons Performance Center in which the Henry Ford Hospital has Dr offices. Hubs doctor is a hand surgeon who treats all the Pistons, Lions, Tigers, Red Wings hand injuries. She thoroughly antisepticized the area around his thumb then sprayed a numbing agent on the area. It was very cold and he verbalized surprise at how cold it was. Then she administered the shot. He said it hurt a lot more than when she did the other thumb 2 years ago. This was 7 hrs ago and his hand still hurts but it’s from the shot. Hopefully it will be better in the morning.
As we were sitting waiting for the Dr to come in, Hubs said that it likely would be raining when we came out. Sure enough, just as I drove out of the parking garage, the rain started and continued off and on all the way home, sometimes very light and sometimes quite hard. Since we were leaving at rush hour, I stayed on surface streets instead of taking the expressway. As we were getting half way home, I thought I really didn’t want to have to come up with something for dinner so asked Hubs to call the Mexican restaurant for enchiladas. He requested a ground beef enchilada dinner which comes with refried beans and rice. We split it. It was good comfort food.
Now I need to go put the antibiotic ointment on my arm. So I’ll say good night ![]()
“Would you like a membership?” = good customer service.
"Whyyy don’t you have a membership?
" = nuh-uh, rude.
Glad your Christmas stuff had another use!
(But, uh, you don’t have any emergency backup candles? Not even cutesy decorative gifty-things that can be pressed into service?)
Awww, a domino appeared.

Gooooooood luck with dat.
Some, not all, but more importantly … HI!!
More than several years ago I was walking a German Shepherd mix, and squirrel happened. I reflexively held tightly onto the leash, and next thing I know I was face-down, and had broken my “never broke a bone in my life” streak (cracked rib).
I was sooooo miffed. Years of being an idiot daredevil kid on skis, horseback riding, horrifyingly (in retrospect - fun at the time!) non-sober midnight hikes in college with my sketchy friends in deep rocky woods long before GPS or even reliable cell phones … survived with nary a twisted ankle.
But walking a dog in an urban area in broad daylight, stone cold sober, and I cracked a bone. HMMMMPH.
That spot still occasionally bothers me[1], if I exert myself - or even cough vigorously - while twisted around a bit weirdly.
… which happens more often than one might expect.
Calm enough closing shift - other crew had Personal DRAAAMAAAAAHHH ™ to bring with them, but it was fortunately a big ol’ pile of whatevs to me to tonight.
Girl, good luck.
Dude, you’ve been coming in complaining about the same stupid arguments you’re having with your irrational, anger-prone, acts-all-jealous-but-massively-cheated-on-you G.F. for how long now?
Sometimes I miss being young - the energy, the optimism, the firm skin & muscle tone, the joints not yet destroyed by time & gravity & past mistakes - and then sometimes, I think, “Aw, Jeebus. Nope.”
So now I’m chilling, ignoring Former Gentleman Caller’s plaintive “hey, uh, what’s up?” texts
and tossing Monkey some even-better-than-usual treats to pluck out of the air: bits of leftover sliced deli turkey … he’s a happy boy (unlike ^^ dude, but we’ve all given him as much advice and plain ol’ quiet “uh-huh” listening as possible.)
Hurts like the dickens ↩︎
Can’t speak for @Die_Capacitrix, but I don’t have anything involving open flame in the house for pet safety (especially since my current cat population are both orange, and I’m never quite sure if either has any clue where the brain cell is).
Definitely best to ignore FGM. He had his chance, and hasn’t given you any reason to think he’s learned anything, or that it wouldn’t just wind up “second verse, same as the first”.
Up, caffeinated, and sheveled. Off to heave. It’s currently 52 degrees Ferret Height(11.111 Centipedes). Spot is sacked out on the lion Squishmallow.
The late Lucretia D. Hellcatt loved to set herself on fire, and also enjoyed napping on barely cooled stove eyes.
Picture this: you’ve started your morning routine way too early as usual. You gather your technology, your beverage, and your pup. You sit down in your chair with the pup in your lap. She stays there momentarily and then climbs in her chair next to you. When she leaves your lap, you see a large wet and sticky brown spot where she formerly was. And then… it’s clean up time for both of you! ![]()
Morning, mumpers! It’s currently 10c/50f with a predicted high of 13c/55f and mostly cloudy. Weather app says “I enjoy sunshine. I just don’t fucking like it when people blow it up my fucking ass.” No, neither would I!
WetOne that’s very good news, I hope the gel shots do what you hope.
Nut yay for a partially successful shopping trip, but boo to having to venture into the Proper City. I feel the same about our German Xmas Market, it’s the same overpriced tat every year and realy not worth the bother of having to dodge the pickpockets.
doggio Spot obviously realised he has the best primates already and had to come home, hope you both survived the bath!
{{{{{Oopsie}}}}} sorry to hear there is so much drama at work. I know how you feel though, I have tremendous imposter syndrome when it comes to being a line manager. Hope your dad’s appointment goes well and you enjoy your lunch with him.
swampy TM had much to complain about, mostly it was about our assessment tracker because it’s a large shared document and she doesn’t like it. She’s been given plenty of opportunities to feed into the set-up and layout of the tracker (knowing she won’t get her own way on all of it) but of course, nobody asked her opinion and it’s all been done wrong. I did buy some gig tickets, it’s for something in January for a dementia charity so it’ll be a fun day out for a good cause.
Welcome back! Good to see you again too. How’s things?
Nettie we are the same, our beautiful red tabby (Orly) had a magnificently fluffy tail but she often forgot it was all hers, and wafted it through candle flames one too many times for my liking. Candles only get used now where I can keep an eye on them all the time.
Sticky Buns that is not the best start to anyone’s day
I hope it gets better from there!
Yesterday was a busy day, three meetings and not much work done in between. I have minutes to write today, and some other bits and pieces to fix for other people so there’s plenty to keep me busy. Last night was ‘im indoors’ turn to cook so at least when I got home, I didn’t have much to do so there was sofa time with cats instead.
Today I was up at stupid o’clock, which meant I had a bit of extra time for a shower and hairwash, then fed the cats, cleaned litter trays and packed up my stuff for work. I had a leisurely cup of tea before I left the house, and Muffin came over for a bit of attention.
Tonight I am hoping for a decent journey home as we’re out again tonight. I took some leftover spagbol out of the freezer so we’ll have that for dinner before we get our gladrags on and head out to the Giffard for tonight’s jollifications. But for now, it’s time for more tea!
Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN ‘Tis 60 Amurrkin out and mostly clear with a predicted high of 79, becomin’ partly cloudy and then cloudy. I shall take care of candle and other duties over to the church house this mornin’. The rest of the day will be the usual RDOS sloth. Even sup will be slothful as it’s nuke leftover po’ folks beef stroganoff.
2gig!!! :: tacklehug :: LTNS! Do come back and regale us with tales of whatever it is you’ve been up to.
shoe FGC had his chance and blew it. You are wise to ignore. Besides, it was much more important that you continue to entertain Monkey.
Sticky_Buns ICK! Look at it this way; the day can only go up from there.
BooFae Muffin came over for attention! That sounds like a major thing. Have fun at tonight’s jollification!
Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then I suppose I shall purtify. Since I will be by myself when I take care of duties, I can get away with sweatpants, tshirt and sneakers, so no need to gussy up.
Happy Firday Y’all!
MYOB - or you’re next…

I’ve got a metric butt-ton of bulbs and I’m going to spread them all over the hill. These bulbs are the great-great-great-dunno how many generations of some that were growing in the yard of the very first house I bought back in 1980. I shared some with my mom and now she’s shared them back with me.
Eons ago, apart from fast food places, that was about the only breakfast-out option around here. Now we’ve got Cracker Barrel, IHOP, Scramblers, a couple of local diners, and a new place that just opened that we have yet to try (hence my inability to pull out a name.) Somewhere along the line, Bob’s swapped from Coke to Pepsi products, which took them off our list.
She was actually quite pleasant and didn’t nag or whine. What gets me is the entry gate has a basic self-service screen and the tap-to-pay thingie, so one really shouldn’t need an attendant. But, I know, some people…
FCD was in a rather morose mood the other day, and said something about him dying and me finding another partner. Um, no. First off, the thought of dating again - nope. Secondly (and mostly) the thought of training another man in my life - HELLZ NO!!!
Just no. Should I be widowed, I’ll deal.
We’re starting with 47 Ferrets, supposedly heading towards upper 70s - HUH??? But from the look of the long-range forecast, that’s just a blip. So we’ll see. It’s laundry day (naturally) and I’ll check out the hill plantings that were replaced late yesterday when I’m planting my gazillions of bulbs. Unless I put that part off till tomorrow.
We’re in Monitor-VISA mode - FCD tried ordering something for the boat from a site that looks identical to a site he’s used before, but with a slight change to the link that he missed till it told him our credit card had reached its daily limit, so try another one… At that point he noticed the address and I looked it up where it was flagged as most likely a scam. Since our VISA will message me for any purchase, I’m keeping an eye on it, ready to report fraud if necessary. Moral of the story, be absolutely certain before entering your credit card info. Thank you for attending my TED talk.
Dammit.
Happy Firday anyway.
We have to make a Costco run today. The list: a block of parmesan cheese, kleenex, paper napkins, butter, and a pair of tri-tips. I’m planning a Santa Maria-stye tri-tip roast today, complete with chili beans, garlic bread, and salad. Which reminds me, as soon as I click “reply”, I have to get up and make some buttermilk dressing for our salad. It’s better if it sits in the fridge for a few hours.
It looks like Halloween night will be rainy, which hopefully won’t damp the enthusiasm of the trick-or-treaters. Not that we really get any, anyway. Our neighborhood has very few little kids or even young teenagers. The rain is okay with me, though, because we need it and we usually have to wait until mid-November to get our first rain of the season.
We bought and I dispersed and raked out five bags of medium-sized bark chips under our redwood trees. We have to replenish the chip mulch every other year or so because local dogs kick away the chips after peeing, and the gardener blows some away every time he uses the leaf blower. I like the task, because the new chips are deliciously fragrant of pine trees. Hopefully they’ll last a couple of years.
{ looks down, shuffles dirt }
Ummmm, that’d be “third verse, same as the second” which isn’t nearly as snappy.
I just have no idea how to kindly say what I feel. (I situations like this, I know how to be mean/pointy, and how to ghost. That whole “polite but straightforward communication” trick isn’t easy.)
Anyone wanna help me come up with something?
Are you one of those people who stick tightly to the list, or do you come out of Costco having ALSO gotten a jug of wine, a bag of avocados, a 3-pack of soy sauce bottles, and a pair of jeans that will go on to become your favorite but only after they stopped carrying that style? (And having forgotten the kleenex.)
Good morning, folks!
Observe them carefully, Cookie. If some of them start beatboxing and spouting angry doggerel, those are rap scallions.
This is the time of year when euonymus shrubs turn a brilliant red, showing why they’re called “burning bush.” I just looked it up, and wonder of wonders, I had spelled euonymus correctly.
Cold Stone Creamery has a seasonal ice cream called Boo Berry or something. It’s actually cake batter ice cream with a lot of extra dye to make it black. Mrs. Nott had some, and I’ll tell you the dye, ahem, survives the trip through the digestive tract. The scooper told us some folks have been alarmed at what they see in the toilet the next day.
Welcome back, 2gigch1 !
My morning breakfast cereal is a layered mix. Blueberries and other fruit on the bottom, then a layer of granola, then the day’s variety of small shredded wheat biscuits. I think today rotates back to a plain wheat, with a bit of sugar-free syrup on top. You might ask what’s in sugar-free syrup, and I do not know.
Tell us what you want to say, and we’ll try to finesse it for you?
the office party went well… i guess my costume was too close to my regular office wear. i didn’t win.
we did have left over bundt cake cupcakes today. a lovely breakfast. the cupcakes were from “nothing bundt cakes” love their products.
i did forget froot loops from my cereal list. i do enjoy them. ho ho’s is my favourite hostess cake. i live in tastykake land. my aunt gave me my first tastykake. my fav’s there are: tandykake, butterscotch krimpet, doughnuts, and the best ever tasty klair.
Laundry delayed - FCD wants me to go to the boat with him to offer opinions. So we shall depart shortly.
Good times…
Good morning.
It’s 43F, dark, and wet outside. The forecast calls for rain of varying intensity throughout the day, with a daytime high of 50F.
2gig, good to see. Do let us know how things are going.
Oopsie, I’m sorry you had such a bad day. I hope things get better. Sending best wishes for your Dad, and I’m glad BFF Husband’s procedure went well.
Shoe, what do you really want to say to FGC? It sounds like you feel this: “We’re done. Don’t contact me again.” But only you know what you truly feel. Sometimes, short, sweet, and to the point is all that is required. It doesn’t leave any openings.
My favorite cereals as a kid were Honeycombs, Lucky Charms, Frosted Mini-Wheats, Grape Nuts, and sometimes Fruit Loops. That’s not to say we ate a lot of sugary cereal. As an adult, I don’t eat it often, but I occasionally eat some Corn Flakes, Frosted Corn Flakes, or Raisin Bran.
I didn’t make it to Costco yesterday, so I’ll need to go today.
For now, I need some more coffee, and I’ll eat my usual morning yogurt and banana.
Please take care of yourselves.
I am very impressed. I can only aspire to that sort of speeling skilz. (seriously, I am impressed, that’s a lot of vowels to keep in the right order.)
Welcome back 2gigch1! You got anything exciting going on in your life?
My mom and Red’s mom were sisters or something. No pricey sugary cereals or snack cakes for us either. We ate a lot of oatmeal and cream of wheat.
So it was pretty foggy this morning, but its burning off now and is up to 48F. We are going out for another leaf peeping drive today. Its going to be spectacular. When the sun comes out I’ll get a pic of the forest across the street, its pretty amazing too.
I don’t lose things in my pockets (cargo pants) because I have designated pockets for my stuff. My phone goes in the highest zippered pocket on the right and pipe and lighter goes in the one on the left. I don’t use my back pockets either, no need cause I have plenty.
I was rather embarrassed yesterday to end up washing six loads of laundry. I don’t usually let things stack up that much. But…its done for a few days, LOL!
Well, I hope you all have great days and stay safe.
Good Morning, Everyone! Last night was a little busy. We attended the last Band practice, as they usually do a little thing for the seniors. We’d gotten there shortly after they had been tossing them up in the air. I’m kinda glad I missed it. When Squeaky was in first grade, he wanted to try gymnastics[1]. I would get heart palpitations watching him hurl himself through the air.
Mrs Magill was one of the Senior Supper hosts, so I left her at school, so she could ride with Squeaky, and did some errands. I mailed a package and drove to make a return to the Walmart. On the way back home, I stopped by the grocery store to get more La Croix, and then hit the liquor store to pick up more gin[2]. There is a young transwoman who works there. She rang me up and I told her thank you for being visible, and that she inspires people. I think she picked up what I’d put down, and she thanked me. ![]()
I got home, ate some dinner, and read a bit of The King in Yellow[3] and watched some boob tube with Chloé while waiting for Mrs Magill and Squeaky to come home, which they eventually did. It turns out the kids all wanted to get ice cream after supper, so the gaggle of seniors went to the ice cream store by the new Publix. Then I went to bed at a decent time (Shocker!).
A funny thing from earlier. I went upstairs to refill my coffee and asked Mrs Magill how her coffee was. She said she was low, so I collected her mug to refill it. I used up the last of the coffee, so I put the pot in the sink to cool down before I clean it at lunch. There were some dishes in the sink, so I put them in the dishwasher[4]. Suddenly, I hear Mrs Magill call from her office, “No! Wait! I wasn’t done! I wanted more coffee!” I had to remind her that I’m not the kind of asshole who would spitefully make her think I was getting her coffee and the not do that… I’m a totally different kind of asshole.
Yeah - especially when the units hit the fifteen year mark. If we have to replace the heat pump, we’ll probably go with the builder grade one. We’re not planning on staying here after Squeaky graduates college. This is a lot of house for two people.
Swampy - I remember PoFolks. That was one of my favorite restaurants when we lived in Georgia when I was but a wee lad.
I like granola and occasionally Life cereal, which was the closest to a sugar cereal we were allowed.
Speaking of miscreants. I’m glad he made it home safely. Which reminds me: Shame on you, shoe for not feeding Monkey while he was on walkabout earlier. ![]()
That’s one reason why I still like my guy jeans. Usable pockets. But I still think my backside looks better in my girl jeans.
Are you one of those people who stick tightly to the list,
Wait - is this even possible?
When she leaves your lap, you see a large wet and sticky brown spot where she formerly was. And then… it’s clean up time for both of you!
Poor you and poor Annie.
I’m another one who won’t have a candle with pets in the house. I wouldn’t worry too much about Nelson setting his tail on fire as knocking a candle over.
That’s not to say we ate a lot of sugary cereal. As an adult, I don’t eat it often, but I occasionally eat some Corn Flakes, Frosted Corn Flakes, or Raisin Bran.
It’s been quite a while since I’ve bought cold cereal, but I still like a bowl of Life on occasion.
Oy! I was awakened this morning by someone pounding on the door next door and every dog in the quad barking their fool heads off, including Nelson. When I harnessed him up to go outside, I saw one of my noisy neighbor’s friends getting ready to pound the door another round. At that point, he’d been at it for half an hour. I told him that if no one was answering at this point, they either weren’t home or didn’t want to bother, but he had all of the dogs cranked up in a quad with retirees, disabled folk and night shift workers, so please give it up. Then he asked me to use my phone. No way I wanted to field calls from whoever he called, so I said no. He eventually shuffled off.
Up, caffeinating, breakfasted and fixing to do KP. I have the CT scan this afternoon and need to call LabCorp to schedule the needed lab work for my nephrologist appointment. After that, RDOS.
Y’all have a great day!
