(Old) A spot of good news in the MMP

46F this morning, but I don’t care because. . . . . .THE HEAT IS FIXED! ::does happy dance::

We decided to donate Trump’s Medicare bribe money to the animal shelter where we got Sadie. If our friends are any indication, charities are getting a windfall of donations from this.

No plans for the day.

If it’s like other places in the UK, it gets composted. We have the same system here. When I buy the cheap compost, that’s what I’m gettin’, stuff made from that plus green garden waste. I don’t bother myself much, cos I compost at home and as I don’t eat meat, there’s no meat scraps, which need the high temperature municipal system to be safe.

Debating going into town to do some clothes shopping, but I don’t really wanna.

scareyfaerie, my condo building has 2 compost bins, rather like your kitchen scraps collection. it makes me happy because i don’t feel like i’m wasting food. i’m making compost! at first it was individual, you paid in and got a bag of compost soil. now that it is building wide… things have really taken off. we can include paper towels, ripped up pizza boxes, tissues, that sort of thing. even pet hair!

i have 2 little stainless steel buckets, and usually have a paper bag in the freezer. the bag in the freezer is for things that mold or really stink. we have 2 pickups. monday morning, and friday morning. i really like it.

things are going in phila. the new fish in the home tank have fully integrated. they are fliting about in a school. both tanks look like a jungle. the snails are getting a bit out of control…

I finished and disassembled the Slang We Used jigsaw puzzle yesterday. I need to nudge Mrs. Nott to pick out the next puzzle before she starts her Tuesday online Poshmark show, selling purses and jewelry. She says she’s taking November off from Poshing.

Gosh, it’s almost 10. Gotta go.

Good morning.

It’s 49F, dark, damp, and cloudy. It rained on and off all night and into the early morning. Today will be cloudy, with possible late-afternoon showers and a daytime high of 54F.

We don’t have a separate food waste service; we can throw food scraps in our yard waste bin. But I only throw vegetable matter in there, nothing else. I save coffee grounds for my garden.

Chef, yay for finally having some heat!

I like the topic, too. I really do try to find a tiny bright spot each day. Some days are harder than others. When I was still working, I made my day brighter by bringing treats to the office. It made me feel good to bring something to brighten others’ day.

Mr. Taters was sick all day yesterday…again. Vomiting, weakness, nausea. He woke up to vomit around 5:00 a.m. today, too. I brought broth, soup, crackers, and plenty of water, but he was in bad shape yesterday and could only eat a few bites. I hope he is feeling better when he gets up today. Frankly, he’s getting really sick far too often now. This is a man who rarely vomits, much less has been this sick for days. I told him the last time he needs to go to the doctor, but he just ignores it. I plan to talk to him again when he’s feeling better.

I didn’t really do much of anything yesterday. I mainly checked in on my husband throughout the day, did some basic tidying, and that’s about it.

Today will probably be the same.

Please take care of yourselves.

Good Morning. Mrs Magill is at the Country Music Hall of fame for her conference today, so I’m let to my own devices. I was a little cold last night, so it’s time to put the warm blankets on the bed this weekend. I came downstairs a bit ago, and heard a beeping from the back rooms. The door to the deep freeze was cracked. Luckily, the thermometer still registered about zero degrees, so everything is still frozen. I still think we need to clean out the deep freeze, but I think throwing everything away would be a bit extreme.

That’s a little too fancy for me[1]. I just want my mug of Yorkshire Gold and (if available) a couple of ginger snaps to dunk.

Curly hair and glasses and lived in either Sullivan or Lee[2]?

As someone in my Group says, “Pants are stupid.”

That reminds me. We have a new bishop. He was a Vice-Rector at one of the more “traditional” and “moderate” churches in Nashville, so I’m keeping an eye on him. The old bishop was definitely an old school conservative. But Michael Curry was my bishop before him, and everyone else pales in comparison.

boofae - My parents had a kitchen scraps collector for several years. They’d take the little bins about every week, and every spring they would receive a bunch of compost.

  1. Though you can’t beat a good cucumber sandwich ↩︎

  2. I don’t remember which is which. ↩︎

It goes towards fertiliser and green energy schemes. Unless you happen to have a Mr Sizzle food truck around, in which case it’s probably in the burger (local thing, has an appalling reputation around here).

There’s been lots of advertising on FB, we’ve had leaflets through the door and our local councillors have been promoting the scheme. So far, there have been some folks saying they’re already using food waste for compost in their gardens (good idea!) but they’re outnumbered by the ones who flatly refuse to have anything to do with the scheme and are just too lazy to participate :frowning:

Cookie hurrah for heat! And hurrah for a charity donation!

rocker we were offered compost bins from the council but declined because our garden was so overgrown and horrible, it wasn’t going to be useful. We also have garden waste bins but they only get collected through part of the year when stuff’s growing (they’re good for grass and hedge clippings etc).

Taters sorry to hear Mr Taters is poorly again, sounds like he ought to be talking to a doctor about this if it’s becoming more frequent.

Mollie that reminds me, I bought biscuits for the guys in the office this week - bourbon creams, shortbread and ginger snaps!

Morning all. Slept until near 8am and had TWO bowls of cereal so belly is stuffed full of chocolate Cheerios and brain is more or less functional, so on to internettin’ time. After yesterday’s errand-running there is nothing much on the agenda except soccer practice at 5:30pm, so today will be spent RDOS’ing and some gym time. Might also do some house-irk, but it’s not it too bad a shape (for me, that is) so it might wait for tomorrow. 60F heading to the mid-70’s so another fine Fall day.

VanGo, happy stretching. And the Ms Peach wrasslin’ is just some added PT…

Cat Glove, thanks for the idea and I’ll mention it to her if I can, but I think even she will have trouble convincing him.

Cat Glove, enjoy the walk, our flora hasn’t changed much down here yet but I think it’s coming soon, got down to the 40’s last night. And remembered memories are sometimes the best.

swampy, happy laundry day! And ironing…haven’t done that since my youth.

boo fae, don’t have a kitchen scraps bin in my collection, apparently not a thing in N. Ali-bama. And mac-n-cheese is on my menu tonight, albeit it will be nuked from the freezer…

Hippie, happy assembly day! Looking forward to seeing the result.

Cookie, Yay! Stay toasty. And good on ya for the donation.

rioting in the streets, then?

Taters, best wishes to Mr. Taters and if he’s still feeling that way this evening, a Drs’ visit may be in his best interests (and I see we are both thinking the same way). Best wishes.

Mollie, good catch on the beeping.

And that’s all for now, back later after more internettin’. Also need to do a quick run to the Mart of Wal as one of my glasses eye pads has disappeared so need a replacement. Have a good 2sDay all.

I’m sure it hasn’t changed much since then. Mostly we went for the drive, we just had lunch and then came back on a different two lane highway.

Cats are also very helpful when you are messing around with the stretchy thing. I’m glad you are starting treatment for your back, this getting old thing kinda sucks.

I have friends in low places, LOL!

TBH, you probably saw and heard more than I did, it was a huge crowd and everyone loved him and every word he said. I’ve been to two trump rallies and they both felt much “meaner”. Obama’s message has always been hope. Trumps has always been hate.

They really can’t. I tried to take pics as well, but the hardest part is WV doesn’t have wide spots to pull over. Here’s a nice park we stopped at.

Imgur

That would be him. All him. Kind when nobody is looking, sort of guy.

Oh, I am SO sorry. I do hope you make it through the entire thing without suffering too much.

Here’s hoping you don’t end up with numb feet as well!

Mine went for signs. If I bring them, people will carry them, so I do my best.

Currently there is a blue jay eating sunflower seeds in front of the glass doors. I was amazed when I first saw one, I’m used to Stellar Jays that are all blue, these have some lovely markings on their back.

You should be able to qualify for a visitor visa, but you need to both enjoy it and go on about it to fully qualify.

You, on the other hand, risk getting barred as being against the public interest. Not that Lipton even exists here except as bottled iced lemon/mango tea-flavoured drink.

Yes, I am procrastinating. Well spotted.

Good morning Rocky, how are the snails getting out of control? Are they reproducing like rabbits?

Back from the dermatologist. It’s basel cell carcinoma. It’s on my arm near my shoulder. However, the redness around the biopsy site never went away. So there was concern about infection so the surgical procedure (which as she described it squigged me out, such that when she noticed my expressive face, she said “oh it won’t hurt, you’ll have anesthesia”) was postponed 2 wks. In the meantime I have to apply antibiotic cream twice a day.

So, I felt I deserved a treat. Went to the local bakery, owned and operated by Macedonians, to find a blueberry coffee cake or strudel/strussel. Nope, only something that looked like a pound cake with some blueberries in it. I did see some strudels on the back wall behind the counter and asked if there were any blueberry ones. The counterperson quickly said, No, but it can be ordered and made for you fresh for tomorrow. Ok, I can wait a day.

But after she wrote out the order, she asked if there was anything else I would like. Well, I was looking at the display and there was a tray of nice looking individual pineapple upside down cakes. My Mom used to make great pineapple upside down cakes, that as the only dessert besides Christmas cookies, that my Mom made from scratch. It was her go to. So, I selected the one that looked best to me. Now I’m sitting here eating it along with a good cup of Kona coffee. Another spot of happiness remembering my Mom, her pineapple upside down cakes and our trips out to the farm. Mom was born on a farm. We would go to visit Babcia once a month and Mom would take a pineapple upside down cake several times a year. We had so much fun running through the corn fields, jumping on one of the hay wagons.

Taters I’ll bet the treats really did brighten your colleagues days; such a nice thing to do. I’m so sorry to hear that Mr. Taters is sick again. Hope he will take your advice and go to the doctor.

If you want some fabulous ginger snaps and a leaf peeping day trip, head to Tracy City to the Dutch Maid Bakery. You can also pick up some other goodies for your Thanksgiving feast.

My mom used to make them in a cast iron skillet. Did your mom use that or a regular cake pan?

I hope that you get to the bottom of MrTaters’ illness taters.

Up, caffeinating, breakfasted and fixing to do KP. After, I shall shevel to go the doctor this afternoon. Yee Haw!

Y’all have a great day!

Amputate! Amputate! Rah rah rah!

Wish we could have done that. We had a church camp every summer in the woods near Lake St Helen, and we went up to Traverse City once to visit my dad, but that’s it for my experience with northern Michigan.

{{{{Taters and Mr Taters}}}}

We have two wheelie bins, a blue one for recycling (with lists on top, saying what they want and what they DON’T want) and a green one for trash and garbage. This place is a little strange – bins are provided and emptied by private companies, not the town.

It’s a little chilly in here. Think I’ll go nuke some tea. . . .

I still haven’t received my Medicare bribe. It is earmarked for charity.

I decided to take the day off. The day off from what though. I am staying in. So far I have cleaned the powder room, done a load of laundry, folder AND PUT AWAY the laundry from yesterday, and tidied the craft crap room. Yesterday I replaced Ursala Kitteh’s litter box with a new box and litter and she immediately christened it.

I have no firm plans for the rest of the day. Needless to day, sloth calls.

Is this real money or like DOGE money? We only have part A, since my work insurance covers everything else.

When I make pineapple upside down cake, I use crushed instead of rings. It’s easier to serve, especially if you want a smaller serving (Yeah, some people do!!!) Haven’t made one in ages - maybe I’m overdue…

Been busy this morning, screening the dirt in the soon-to-be iris bed. I started out with a rake, trying to get random roots and bulbs cleared out. Then I remembered we made a screen, so using that and 2 step stools (FCD is using the sawhorses in his shop) I’ve managed to clear just over half the bed. I needed a break, but I’ll get back to it and finish. Then I’ll set up a sprinkler to give the bed a drink. With luck, tomorrow I can finally plant..

Today’s good news - I haven’t hurt myself (yet) doing all this manual labor! Go me!! (and now I’m jinxed…)

Sharing the big happy.

I, too, have an expressive face that I can’t turn off. I have to cover my face with both hands when I play Codewords.

Hoping you guys catch a break soon in medical land.

I’m glad you did!

$90 deposited directly to your bank account by the SSA. There are exceptions, apparently, but I don’t know what those might be. We also only have Part A because of my retired military medical coverage. I’m sure it may be welcome by some folks, but I have no need of it, and resent that it’s being given as a bribe. From what I gather online, it would appear that charities are getting a welcome surge of $90 donations.

Sharing the little happy.
