(Old) Airmail in the MMP

I still have some in the kitchen.. Every few years, around Christmas, I think I should be all jolly and festive and roast some chestnuts, then I get some, maybe roast a few, remember they taste of bleh, then the rest sit there until I eventually chuck 'em.

Incidentally, sunrise here is currently about 4:30am. I’m not getting up for that. Sunset’s nearly 10pm as well. It’s already messing with my sleep cycle, and we still have 3 weeks of nights getting shorter. Bet the local bats hate it too.

In my book, a safer option is “they.” (Except the grammar prescriptivists might come at you, Oxford comma and all.)

Your son could have been more gentle about defending their kid, though, especially in a visible forum.

That’s a weird casserole. :winking_face_with_tongue:

Important Update: I have decided to bring Fancy Yogurt ™ as a further treat/bribe. It’s one of those “flip” yogurts with crunchy add-ins, and this one is strawberry with chocolate thingies, and I am so looking forward to it.

Surely that would be an argument FOR repairs?

I LOL’d.

Despite the song (“.. deep in the heart of Texas ..”) a big change for me was just how much brighter they are here, because there’s so much less light pollution in a small town than in DFW.

When my ex came to visit, he was absolutely awestruck by the night sky.

But I don’t pay attention to specific constellations enough to notice a change like what you described.

Oh! And apparently last night was a BLUE MOON :blue_circle: since it’s the 2nd full moon in 1 month. (No wonder we had so many weirdos.)

I appreciate all of these comments. I very nearly deleted the post, as I didn’t want to offend anyone. It may have helped this kid that one of his older cousins is gay and unapologetic about it.

I appreciate all of these comments. I very nearly deleted the post, as I didn’t want to offend anyone. It may have helped this kid that one of his older cousins is gay and unapologetic about it. He’s graduated college and leading a productive life. Interestingly enough, both of them are on the autism spectrum.

I don’t want to hijack the thread any further, but thanks for the comments.

Can you hijack the MMP?

Don’t be silly. MMP threads are all about hijacks subject changes, sometimes beginning as early as the first response. And actually, since this is a discussion about how the week and our lives are going, and that’s what you’re talking about, I’d say your post doesn’t come anywhere near being a hijack.

Thank you for trusting us with your trials and tribulations, that is never easy and often out and out terrifying. You did good in both taking a deep breath and trusting and being brave when that is scary.

And thanks for assuming the best of me and my intentions in my response~I wish it had been as gracious and articulate as @Maus_Magill’s, @purplehorseshoe’s, et Al. I’m a work in progress too.

I could swear I remember taking them to the boat, but I’ve searched stem to stern without success. And 5 is such a stoopit number for things that came in pairs.

What a day! We breakfasted at Denny’s, then drove across the bay to Grasonville. The owner was there doing a project for his wife, but he said they weren’t open. We were sure we’d seen on their website that they were open on Sunday, tho we couldn’t find it on our phones. But he did let us shop and we got what we’d gone there for.

Once we got home, I found his website, and right there, it said open Tues-Sun. So I copied the link and sent it to him so he can fix it.

Daughter came over with the grands and Trevor. Unfortunately, Trevor found a cat that had apparently died a bit ago next to our truck (in a place we couldn’t see from the driveway) and he (Trevor) decided to roll in its remains. Daughter put him in the yard, then gathered the remains in a plastic bag for disposal - she put it in the back of our truck and we’ll deal with it. Needless to say, Trevor got a bath, as did Otis because he managed to get dead-cat-stink on himself from Trevor. So that was fun.

The grands had their bikes and since we’re in a very quiet neighborhood, they got to ride to the two cul de sacs. With luck, that’ll help them sleep thru tonight. I fed them all sketties and they’ve since gone home, so nice and quiet again.

Tomorrow morning I need to visit the vampire ahead of my Dr appt next week, so fasting required ahead of time. And since I plan to run some errands after, I need to take some sort of breakfast matter with me. The rest of tomorrow is up in the air.

I read all but pretty much retained nothing. So hugs all around and we shall meet again in the next MMP. MWAH!!!

I spent about 90 minutes doing light yard work, degirdling and clipping rhododendrons and pulling the not-very-deeply-rooted weeds. It felt GREAT to actually do something physical.

I cleaned dusted, and vacuumed. I changed Spot’s litter, and took the trash and recycling out. I cleaned the sliding glass patio doors. And this being June, I flipped my mattress over. This after spending 3 days in a row flipping 108lbs. matress over.

Dinner is a Wisconsin Old Fashioned, poke loin, sweet N.O.T. and blackeyed peas.

But once you bring in beavers, it’s one dam thing after another.

Because he is. I mean there’s no point in being a Small Egyptian God if you can’t smite your followers for sport on occasion.

It’s the “Only allowed to bring spoons to the potluck after this” special.

Yay!

Your county Cooperative Extension should have names. Unfortunately, they’re not allowed to tell you who on the list will do a good job and who won’t.

If you’ve got a farm pond, presumably there are farms in the area. Ask a few farmers; they probably know who works on ponds.

That doesn’t read to me like a use they ought to want to shut down, That looks to me like important habitat.

Did you check with the neighbors? somebody may be missing their cat, and, while not glad to find out it’s dead, might be at least glad that now they can stop looking.

My WAG would be an excavator.

Well, I packed stuff to make paper flowers from die cut scraps to keep me busy this week and wouldn’t you know, I walked off without the paper scraps. I’ll make a quick trip home tomorrow to retrieve them.

Nelson has been wound up all afternoon. He’s not used to sharing me with three other dogs, poor baby. He does fine with the puppy pile when Sis is here, but he’s a wee bit jealous now. He’ll get used to it.

Howdy Y’all! A quick post before I head to bed. I’m feelin’ sleepy. We deheathenated (me twice, OYKW once) and had Jack’s burgers and fries for lunch. It has rained and stormed all afternoon. One storm had really big lightnin’. I bet Precious had to take to the bed over that one! Right now we have light rain and may have more big rain overnight. I hope so cause I love to fall asleep to the sound of rain.

See Y’all tomorrow!

Leftover chicken Florentine and roasted Brussels sprouts for dinner tonight. I think I mentioned that the breasts were large, and that I split them in half. So I made eight half-breasts. We ate two for dinner yesterday, two today, and have four more for two more dinners.

The Logan’s meatloaf was fine as usual and the gym has provided an adequate burning of calories, so all-in-all not a bad way to end the week. Rain finally showed up about 5pm and looks like it’ll be on-and-off the rest of the evening, so guess it was a good call cutting the grass yesterday. Temperature is 75F heading down to 67F this evening so not too bad.

31 messages to look at, been a busy Mumper Sunday. So Hi-Ho, Hi-Ho, it’s off to scroll I go..

GMTA

Somehow I thought you would…it’s one of my favorite all-time songs.

Nut, never thought of a rat as being a lap-friend. And sunrise is 5:35am here, so not much sleeping in (may have to get my sleeping mask out). Sunset is 7:55PM, so about 14 hours of light.

52, hope you enjoyed lunch today. Never been a great talker in groups, but enjoy listening.

Cookie, I feel for you, but for the kid’s benefit I hope you can use their preferred term. And not offended a bit, it’s not an easy thing when what you felt as certainty is uprooted, even if it is for the best.

red, sounds like you have plenty of company there.

Bright Tree, good luck on the pond problem, I wouldn’t have a clue to what to do, but if other folks in the area have ponds they might have encountered this issue and can advise you. How you find them, however… And so glad Ollie is doing better.

Ummm, I think Memorial Day was last Monday…

FCM, dogs and smelly stuff; two things that go together (and we wish they didn’t).

doggio, haven’t flipped my mattress in…well, much to long. It’s a King, so doing it on my own is always a struggle, but will put it on my list next week and try to git’er done.

And it’s 8pm and I have one or two more things to do, so catch all y’all tomorrow on the next MMP.

Easy to tell that I’m retired, isn’t it!

Would (wood?) that beavers could repair this:

Imgur

I’d send those beavers a gold plated invitation and give them a 21-gun salute!

But of course, there’s this:

I know, right? But Fish & Game made it clear once when they were here inspecting the timber about 20 years ago that they would probably not allow it to be restored if it ever failed. Their words ring in my ears.

I’m glad you’re managing well with Monkey and the job, shoe.

Funny you would mention this. There’s a legacy farm not far from here, I passed it earlier today, and in the yard sits the most massive backhoe I’ve ever seen. It could probably do the repairs with about 3 scoops of the bucket. I just need to stop by and see if it and its operator are available for hire, and if it’s something I could afford. But yes, this is a great suggestion!

As noted above, superb idea – and probably the right one! Thanks. And I hope Nelson gets over his jealousy soon.

Yeah, it’s kinda gross, especially once it’s mixed with canned dog food, kibble and lots of water. But I’m not looking a gift happy butt in the… well, I’m just not. It worked!

I wondered why our potluck invitations had dried up…

It is, thanks. He’s a peanut slut, which was a good thing to learn.

I’m delighted everything is going so well for you and hubs in WV. You deserve every happiness.

Go you, Lily!!

Oh, me, too. And I’m glad you’re doing so well, too, metal mouse! I enjoyed following along with your travels in April – what a terrific trip!

Thanks to everyone for your suggestions on the pond. They are truly appreciated. It’s such a dumb problem to have, and it keeps me up nights.

I must not pay that much attention if it took me two years to figure it out! To be honest, its subtle. Everything is in the right placement, the “bowl” is just tilted differently.

There is a reason they are called LUNAtics!

That would be the most irritating thing to me. They came in pairs, they should get lost in pairs. That’s like a rule or something.

I"m so happy that you are recovering so well and hope that you get a nice long bath soon.

As a fellow slave, I recognized the Offer Bribes look right away!

How’s that going to work? Are you going to take the entire pack or just Nelson? Will the others pout about being left alone?

I love those sort of storms and wish our weatherguesser was as entertaining as yours.

Oh, I just thought about your state university for that. They probably have an agriculture department full of knowledgeable folks. AZ had similar rules for water use, if it fell on the ground, it belonged to the state so I understand your reluctance to involve the people who might say NO.

Last year was the first time Hubs and I had ever tried them. I bought a three-pack of pealed and roasted chestnuts (couldn’t buy just one, had to buy the entire thing) and we both put one in our mouths. Blech said us so I put more in the oven to heat up. Blech again, hence the unopened bags in the back of the cabinet.

None of our birds seem impressed, not even the Starlings. I would have figured they would love them, both being British imports.

I’ve also learned that folks out here use upside down suet feeders because Starlings can’t eat upside down but Jays and woodpeckers can. I’ve been paying attention and think that starlings are getting a bad rap because the local flock is mostly cowbirds. Which don’t like chestnuts either.

I’d think there’s a decent change they’ll have changed their opinion by now.

Honestly, it’s likely they could. Unfortunately, they are very… unreliable contractors.

I’ll crate Sis’ tribe but leave Nelson roam free in the house. Her guys are accustomed to being crated when left alone and at night. Nelson can be trusted not to make a mess. Besides, Pugsly, Nelson’s brother-cousin has an aversion to leashes and harnesses.
