Cookie, I feel for you, but for the kid’s benefit I hope you can use their preferred term. And not offended a bit, it’s not an easy thing when what you felt as certainty is uprooted, even if it is for the best.

I normally do try to respect the boundaries and desires of the family. I was just so impressed with his singing that my enthusiasm got the better of me.
