(Old) Airmail in the MMP

It is a chilly wet weekend in Philly.

On Saturday I headed to nj for the mandolorian movie. I started coughing, just thought it was exercise asthma as I kept going up and down stairs trying to get to the patco station. Turns out since I last used patco in 2023 they have changed up the patco stations in philly. Add in that it was earlyish on a Saturday morning, many connecting tunnels were blocked off.

The cough got more frequent as the day went on, by late night I realized it wasn’t asthma. It might be the cough/sore throat thing that is going around now.

On Sunday I wake up and now have a lovely bass voice. No fever, thankfully no soreness, just coughing and bass voice. I went to the convenience store in the building for the ‘quils.

Lager is being the nurse cat and is staying with me while I hang out in the chair and watch tv. Koritza as usual comes by sniffs says some stuff and moves on.

I have done some light tidying, the list I had planned on is not happening.

Fifty-two potstickers have been assembled and are in the freezer. Time to lounge until it’s time to collect flags.

Survived Memorial weekend at the :pizza: joint. By the end of the night, we were - quite literally - congratulating each other.

Also, a weird, heavy fog rolled in around sunset, and by the time we closed it was a thick pea soup. We all admonished each other in the parking lot when we were (finally!) leaving to be super careful going home, since drunks + poor visibility is a bad combo.

Ran to the dispo on my break, was served by their manager, and then a coupla hours later HE comes by MY window for a pizza. Hilarity ensued.

Long but lovely I think.

Perhaps a Mumper more tech savvy than me can set up within our MMP a way we can share wise mantras from our mothers (and fathers and aunties…). I’m sure there are some great ones here. Any thing goes.

Aptly named MMP this week - I just got home from buying some postcards for the SDMB Postcard Exchange! First time I’ve done it and I’m quite excited.

I’ve read along and mostly kept up but haven’t had the energy for posting. I’m glad to see most everyone is either doing okay or on the up-swing!

2026 has been a mixed bag for me, but overall positive I think. I bought a house at the beginning of the year and home-ownership hi-jinks immediately commenced. Two days after moving in, I was snowed in for a week, during which time various small repair gremlins immediately reared their head - the most concerning of which was a toilet that began to crack due to the extremely cold water. Fortunately was able to get it replaced that day before it came apart and flooded anything.

In early March, I felt comfortable putting down a deposit for new windows (yay!). Three days later we got hammered by a massive hailstorm (boo). So then insurance paid for a new roof, new garage door and repainting the house, minus my deductible of course. Those repairs have all been completed, and while none of that was ever in the plans for the near future, I think it turned out quite nicely.

Let’s see if this before and after works… (if it does, please ignore the sad state of the flower bed. It’s on The List, but the frickin list keeps getting longer)

In the midst of dealing with all of that, my father died in an unfortunate accident and he lived about 8 hours away. It was even more difficult than it needed to be due to 1) a police investigation due to the nature of it (nothing was found) and 2) he wasn’t legally married to his wife. Power of attorney apparently expires on death so none of the officials or funeral home would deal with his wife, I had to as legal next of kin.

Finally had his celebration of life last weekend and got back home last Sunday… to a flooded kitchen. The dishwasher decided it wasn’t going to go out peacefully and ruined the kitchen flooring. So the dishwasher has been replaced but the flooring will have to be replaced at some point in the future.

Oh my I’ve really driveled quite a bit. Apologies to anyone that made it through all of that.

July will be 15 years since I retired from my Fed job. I finally retired from my miscellaneous short term gigs right before COVID hit, so I haven’t been gainfully employed for over 6 years..

Yet I continue to labor - we spent about 4 hours on the boat today removing the wires and cables from the old radar system. Chasing wires is always fun…

We took Otis with us and he wandered around on deck watching people and boats, then came in the cabin and crashed on the settee. So no unpleasant surprises when we came home. Whew!

Love this expression - I must remember it next time it’s appropriate. (BTW - cute house!!) FCD almost jinxed us - he started to say something about replacing the dishwasher - it’s almost 22 years old, so we’re truly on borrowed time. But anyway, I managed to stop him before the curse settled. I think. At least when/if it does happen, it won’t be a crisis like a fridge going kaput. Hand-washing dishes isn’t fun, but it is doable.

We’ve had spitty rain on and off, and NWS says it’ll continue for the next 2 days. We’ll see. For now, it’s chillage at home.

Howdy Y’all! We actually did have a little bit of cee-mint pond time today. The sun came out for almost two hours late mornin’ so we took advantage. Now it’s cloudy and rain is expected within the next hour. We geezer supped and 'twas good! We had burgers, dawgs, corn on the cob (for OYKW, I cut mine off the cob cause I don’t like to bite into a corn cob), baked beans and slaw. We will have watermelon in a bit and then haul the biiiiiig trash can all the way down to the road for pickup tomorrow. Thus is the news from swampland.

doggio I am aghast that I did not know today is Towel Day! I shall go hug my bath towel in hopes of makin’ amends.

Nuts hope you feel better soonest and that the charts become ruly.

Mollie the answer is always sloth. Then again I am a RDOS, so sloth is my default mode. Also the only normal people are those you don’t know very well.

Pilot barfin’ in only the finest places is a sure sign of class! Of course whoever did that went back to their table. Once one has puked one’s guts out, one has room for more.

WetOne have fun bathin’ Ariel. Ariel, have fun bathin’ mom!

Cookie give ‘em hell! No excuse for the a/c not bein’ on.

rocker feel better soonest!

{{{52}}} so sorry about your father! You’ve had a lot to deal with as of late. The house looks good! I replaced da cave windows with those type windows and could not believe how much better it looked.

And now this…

< AHEM > CLEARIN’ THROAT < AHEM >
HAAAPPPYYY BIIIRRRTTTHHHDDDAAAYYY TOOOOOO YOUUUUUU!!!
HAAAPPPYYY BIIIRRRTTTHHHDDDAAAYYY TOOOOOO YOUUUUUU!!!
HAAAPPPYYY BIIIRRRTTTHHHDDDAAAYYY DEEEAAARRR SSSCCCAAADDD!!!
HAAAPPPYYY BIIIRRRTTTHHHDDDAAAYYY TOOOOOO YOUUUUUU!!!

Hey! People trying to sleep around here, you know!

Goodness, that’s really too much! I’m do sorry about your dad, and all the rest of it.

Your house looks sharp!

And it’s a damp late afternoon in N. Ali-bama, rain has been off-and-on all day (it’s on right now) and temperature has not exceeded 73F. Got my Jersey Mike’s sammich and then went from there to the gym, since it was closing at 4pm and did much good exercising, then stopped at Wendy’s for an early dinner. If I get hungry later tonight I have a bag of Salad fixin’s that will do just fine. Weight is down to 205.6lbs, so progress is being made.

And lots on Moanday writing to get through, so activating scroll mode in 3…2…1…

Knots, even though I lived in Indianapolis for 3 years, never have been to a race there and have no particular interest in it, but I will admit that was as close a finish as you can get.

Taters, plant therapy is apparently good for you; I never was much for planting things.

Mollie, It appears that I have some Twice Daily stores near me, but to the best of my memory I’ve never been in one. But if they have doughnuts and apple fritters…

Pilot, haven’t been barfing-drunk since college, but I have had to upchunk in restaurant Men’s rooms, mostly due to some serious headaches I used to get in my youth (teens to 30’s) but I have not had a re-occurrence in 30+ years.

Wet one, hope Ariel enjoyed her bath.

Lily, hope the pant’s fitting went well.

rocky, hope you get to feeling better soon, staying inactive is probably the best thing you can do. Listen to the nurse cat!!

shoe, I can remember having to drive to work in some pea-soup fog in Abu Dhabi (being right on the Persian Gulf with plenty of water and heat/humidity) and people would be driving with their hazard lights on…it was quite something to see (barely see).

52, good to see you around the place again. And yeah, home ownership can be a pain in the wallet, just glad you had a good insurance policy (and wait till you see your next bill…). Lovely pictures, looks like a very nice place to live. And sad to hear about your father, hope his wife does benefit from the will. And dishwashers can be very valuable and also very destructive…hope the floor replacement works out sooner than later. And come back an drivel some more sooner than later, too…

FCM, you and Herald made me go look and I just passed my 10-years retired anniversary in April…doesn’t seem that long ago.

And a most happy birthday to you, Herald.

And that’s all for now. Sounds like the rain has stopped for the moment, but there is no reason to go out so the weather can do what it will.

Two pairs of drawstring pants and a men’s shirt I fancied, so it’s now a women’s shirt.

Happy birthday herald! :birthday_cake:

It’s been raining off and on all day, with a bit of thunder. I napped, and watched YouTubes. It’s funny watching the painters pressure wash things during pouring rain.

No apologies, just {{{{52}}}}

:bottle_with_popping_cork: :birthday_cake: :partying_face:HAPPY BIRTHDAY HERALD!!! :birthday_cake: :bottle_with_popping_cork:

Happy International Towel Day everyone. Hubs has carried a towel in his car for almost 40 years. I’m not sure that he ever understood why I made him put it there, but I am a good wife who doesn’t want my husband to be towel-less.

I think I’ve shared this story before, but its still fun. One fine spring morning I was driving into work in college town when traffic suddenly slowed almost to a stop. A quarter of a mile later, the reason became clear. A young man was hitchhiking while clad in a red towel, sneakers and a big smile.

Happy Birthday Douglas Adams

What an auspicious MMP title, today we got our postcard exchange names and I will buying international stamps. Tomorrow we are going to the Mothman museum for postcards and maybe something small for the Secret Santa.

I write fan letters. I used to sit at the kitchen table and write letters to writers and TV actors, now it is mostly all done by email. I always get a reply from writers, I think they are incapable of reading a letter about one of their creations without replying.

My first letter went to Underdog and he sent me a signed picture. That started my addiction and it just kept going. I wrote to my childhood crush, Billy Mummy of Lost in Space fame, and got a signed picture using my name!!! There was no stopping me then, LOL.

Richard Bachman’s signature is markedly different than Stephen Kings and Jeffrey Combs said that acting in the Re-animator series was the best time of his life.

Happy birthday Herald! May you have a great year.

I thought that was what the Mump was for? I’m sorry about your Dad and dang about all of the house repairs. It does look very nice

And the circle of life was complete

I hope your cough goes away quickly without turning into something dire.

I haven’t been sick since I stopped working, which was shortly before the world ended so I don’t know how the current fuzzbutts would react. I know George is always up for a nap, so helps Hubs when he’s under the weather. Jolene has too much shit to do, like Koritza, she does walk-by nursing.

That’s why I enjoy the postcard exchanges so much. Someone I don’t know is sending me something that isn’t junk mail or a bill. How exciting!

I’ve been reading about the insane heat you folks are dealing with and think that you might want to consider getting AC for at least one room in your house. It’s only going to get worse.

Does Ariel like getting baths and splashing around in the hose? Frolicking horses are so much fun to watch.

But did they wash their hands first???

The Mrs seems to be a very smart lady!

I’m glad your plants will get a nice watering, rain does a much better job IMHO. I’d never heard of Angel’s Wings before, what a beautiful plant! I’ll bet it would be a wonderful centerpiece for a moon garden.

How long will it take him to forgive you for this intrusion?

And I better go, more stuff to do tonight.

Today a woodpecker flew over to my ramp and staggered up a few feet to snatch a piece of corn off the concrete. They don’t do very well on horizontal surfaces, I was really surprised to see it. Then I went out back and refilled the suet feeder, because I know that’s what it really wanted.

He’s pretty much back to the normal level of disappointment with his primate servant.

A neighbor has acquiured a motorcycle. Ms Peach is unimpressed. Him sitting in the driveway and revving it causes much pacing and woofing. I agree with her.

Nobody seems at all interested in the suet feeder so far. I did make the mistake of cronching the standard feeder with a chuck-it ball and have not yet replaced that. Chuckit for those who don’t know. It’s basically an atlatl for throwing balls. PS the squeaky balls are the best.

Shoe Love the bit where the 2 necessities combine. Pizza and smoke. What more does anyone need?

Mowage achieved, which is a good thing, since I’m going out of town for the rest of the week. Had I left it, I don’t know if’n my mower could handle it. Any good suggestions for a restaurant near the Museum of Science in Boston?

She is the smart one.

I did not see the criminal or the crime in progress. Just the leftover evidence. So no clue what happened after the yawning was done.

JtC Ariel is not much of a frolicker. Mares aren’t usually playful. They are fairly serious because they have to watch over the children and the rest of the herd. Fortunately Michelle held her during bath time so I didn’t get as wet as I do when I have to hold her, the hose, and the sponge. She smelled so good when we were done.

Ha! By my standards, I’m perfectly normal.
